DESCRIPTION

Aether Systems or Aether Fleet Systems was a starship and vehicle manufacturer headquartered on the planet Taris. It was established at the turn of the 9th Century [ 900 ABY ] in the waning days of the Great Hyperspace Wars. The company was known to focus on products that were specifically geared and marketed towards the Civilian and Private Sectors with limited Governmental Contracts. Its centralized location on Taris ensured that it was capable of maintaining contact with its primary marketplaces in the Core Worlds of the Galactic Alliance, the Braxant Run, and the Greater Tion Sector. Aether was known for its neutrality; showing no favor or allegiance to any one specific Government or Faction, and was known for its care and consideration towards its employees.

Recent developments in the political landscape resulted in Aether Systems shuttering their operations in the Tion Cluster in favor of locations in the Hapes Cluster and the Deep Core respectively. During this time, the company was known to overturn its neutrality in favor of lucrative contracts provided by the Galactic Alliance, Hapes Consortium, and the surviving Chiss population. The company was also known to have relocated its headquarters during this time from Taris to the Deep Core planet of Keera Major.

RATIONALE

Aether Systems was founded between 855 ABY and 900 ABY on Taris by Amelia von Sorenn. The company was majority owned by Amelia and was often considered to be a spiritual, if not direct, successor of Von Sorenn Industries which had gone defunct following the collapse of the Confederacy of Independent Systems some twenty-five years prior. Aether was known to be backed by silent partners on Taris as well as minor shareholders in the form of average Tarisian citizens.

THE BEGINNING

Aether Systems was a breakout starship and vehicle manufacturer founded on the planet Taris prior to relocating its main headquarters to the Deep Core planet of Keera Major. They were established in the waning days of the Great Hyperspace Wars circa 895 to 900 years After the Battle of Yavin. They were known to focus on specialty niche market products such as the Aether Training Craft Model 21 (Aether TC-21) and its Military variant, the Aether Training Craft Military Model 7 (Aether TC-M7).

The company was known to avoid direct marketplace confrontation with larger and more well-known Starshipwrights due to its continued focus on niche products to establish itself as a pre-eminent Starshipwright. This was seen in the production lines that followed their initial success of the Aether TC-21 and TC-M7 respectively such as the Aether Training Craft Frigate Model 5 (Aether TC-F5) which was marketed as an Advanced Training Ship for Civilian or Military use. Aether Systems' initial successes secured a series of Corporate Contracts issued by its parent corporation the Taris Trading Company.

During this period Aether Systems mass-produced the Aether Cargo Transport Model 23 (Aether CT-23) for the Open Market. This success was followed by Aether Cargo Manipulator Model 03 (Aether CM-03) and the Aether Heavy Cargo Manipulator Model 15 (Aether HC-15), both of which were produced in mass for the Open Market. The continued success of these models further secured additional Corporate Contracts which resulted in Aether Systems taking its first step into the Military Industrial Complex.

Aether Systems was known to have then produced the Ferrazid-class Heavy Starfighter alongside the Tarisian Customs Frigate and the larger Tarisian-class Heavy Cruiser. It was these first warships that would further catapult Aether Systems into becoming a Starshipwright to be reckoned with.

THE GALACTIC CONNECTION

In its early days, Aether Systems was known for its staunch neutrality, showing no favor towards any singular Interstellar Government, Political Faction, Military Force, or other Organizations. Its strategically centralized location was chosen to ensure that Aether Systems remained in a position in which it could service and maintain contact with its primary marketplaces, the Core Worlds of the Galactic Alliance, the Braxant Run, and the Greater Tion Sector. Changing Political winds and the founding of the Empire of the Lost resulted in the Greater Tion Sector being declared untenable, with Aether Systems shuttering its primary manufacturing assets in the region and relocating them to the Deep Core. This decision ultimately set the tone and pace that would result in a closer relationship with the Galactic Alliance and would see Aether Systems begin to choose a side.

The Founder of Aether Systems, Amelia von Sorenn, would further solidify and seek to strengthen the relationship between Aether Systems and the Galactic Alliance by showing support for the New Jedi Order. In a private meeting with Jedi Master Valery Noble Valery Noble that took place on Coruscant, the newest creation of Aether Systems was revealed, The Bolaph, a Praxeum Ship that was designed and ultimately produced to further the cause of the New Jedi Order. During this meeting, Amelia von Sorenn also revealed her commitment to the Galactic Alliance by joining its Defense Force and serving as a Captain in the Galactic Alliance Naval Forces, thus planting the seed that would establish Aether Systems as the preeminent Starshipwright for the Galactic Alliance.

Aether Systems was also known to keep a close eye on the shifting Political Landscape of the Galaxy and closely watched the reports that came from Ryloth. The first Skirmish between the Galactic Alliance and their former Allies the Mandalorians was a result of the Mandalorian Enclave pressing their de jure claims on territories they had held previously and the Galactic Alliance stepping in on behalf of Ryloth when aid was requested of them. The conclusion of this minor conflict resulted in damaged Diplomatic Relations between the two Governments with the prospect of a larger conflict now looming on the horizon; Aether Systems saw the shift in the wind and prepared its facilities for the production of war materials for the Galactic Alliance.

In the following months, the Galactic Alliance would seek out new allies to replace those lost, resulting in a new Diplomatic Mission to the isolated Hapes Consortium. The meeting between the representatives of these two Governments was tepid at best, and its conclusion saw a shift in the stance of the Hapes in regard to sending their people into conflict. During this time, Amelia von Sorenn managed to secure a private meeting with Queen Mother Kha'la Daaray Kha'la Daaray and begin the ongoing process of securing a long-term contract for Aether Systems beyond the newly forming conflict between the Galactic Alliance and the Mandalorian Enclave. These meetings would see Aether Systems further solidified itself as a specialist in the field of Starshipwrights as the company sought to become the dominant manufacturer of Starships for the Galactic Alliance and now their new Hapan allies.

Aether Systems began the production of new Hapan Warships shortly after the Galactic Alliance and the Hapes Consortium established their new alliance, with the GADF Nova Cruiser and the GADF Battle Dragon being among the first Warships off the production lines. These were followed in short order by additional warships such as the War Drake, the Stinger, and the Stella Frigate with Aether Systems producing additional lines of Capital Ships to vary the new Hapan Naval Forces whilst also retaining the classical Miy'til line of Starfighters.

The Declaration of a State of War between the Galactic Alliance and the Mandalorian Enclave as announced by Chancellor Auteme Auteme was a windfall for Aether Systems as the company was now established within the Hapes Cluster among other Coreward Locations. The rapid production of Warships and Capital Vessels inspired by the Hapan love of Beauty would further serve to solidify the Company's status as specialists in their field as they focused more heavily on the design and production of Starships.

Aether Systems would go on to further heighten the bar with the creation of larger Hapan Warships such as the Megos-class Star Destroyer and the Neutron-class Battlecruiser. The pinnacle of their Hapan production line would be the Pulsar-class Fast Battleship which was specially designed to mix the might and brute strength of a Battleship with the speed and maneuverability of a mainline Battlecruiser.

WAR

The formal Declaration of War issued by the Galactic Alliance had served as a windfall for Aether Systems, with conflict looming on the horizon, the corporation had begun the production of additional War Ships and Capital Vessels to supplement and ultimately replace the aged vessels of the Hapan Royal Navy; they could not have seen what was coming. Anticipating that outside influences would utilize this Declaration and the possibility of the Alliance being distracted by this conflict, Aether Systems issued an internal document known as Project Gunstar. This particular document laid out the Company's continued support of the Galactic Alliance and reinforced its commitment to assist in the production of Capital Ships, Starfighters, and other Starships for the Alliance.

However, a contingency plan was also put into action at the behest of the Project Gunstar Document; in which it outlined the support and approval for a new specialized Gunship to be made available to the Galactic Alliance, the Aether GS-01. This Gunship was developed to provide the Galactic Alliance Navy with a heavy support option to supplement its Starfighters and Corvettes in fleet formations. Project Gunstar outlined a proposed plan in which the Aether GS-01 would be made readily available for those entities outside of the Galactic Alliance that viewed the Interplanetary Government in more favorable terms; as they always say "The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend". With this internal document put into place, the Company turned towards newer projects that would provide additional Starships to the Galactic Alliance, their Strategic Intelligence Agency, and the New Jedi Order respectively.

Additional production lines developed immediately after the formal declaration of war consisted of the Chandrila-class Star Defender, the Defender-class Star Defender, and the Fresia-class Patrol Ship. These production lines had been designed to further supplement and ultimately replace older Capital Ships that had served in the Galactic Alliance Navy since before the Second Great Hyperspace Wars. The largest of these production lines are the Alliance-class Starhawks which sought to breathe new life into an older design and provide the Galactic Alliance Navy with a new line of Command Vessels for their Flag Officers.

The Mandalorian Invasion of the Galactic Alliance, though expected, had still caught the Alliance off guard, and it became clear that what prior friendship that had previously existed between the two entities was no more. Multiple Systems had been targeted by a coordinated strike which saw a vast swath of Alliance Territories carved away including the important worlds of Thyferra, Yag'Dhul, and Ukatis; and as Thyferra had been lost so too had been the Alliance's supply of Bacta. Immediately following this invasion, Aether Systems issued an additional internal document, Project Thyferra.

Project Thyferra serves as an attempt by Aether Systems to not only further ingratiate itself with the Galactic Alliance; its establishment is also intended to further strengthen the confidence of the Corporation held by citizens of the Alliance. The document itself established the planned action of Aether Systems to secure a source of Medical equipment, resources, droids, and materials to ultimately be distributed to those Systems that had been struck the hardest in the Invasion. Furthermore, the document also provided a tentative plan to establish a Medical Subsidiary and provide further medical or financial assistance to those in need. The establishment of this document ultimately led to the approval and production of both the Bacta-class Medical Frigate and the Kolto-class Medical Shuttle lines of Civilian Starships to render assistance in those Systems affected by the Mandalorian Invasion.

Immediately following the establishment of Project Thyferra; Aether Systems further developed additional Starfighters such as the TX-05-A1 X-wing and the RZ-5 A-wing for the Galactic Alliance, and more specifically to be utilized by the famed Revenant Squadron. Additional production lines that saw development and deployment to the Galactic Alliance Navy included the Ackbar-class MC80a Star Defender and the Raddus-class Star Defender.

DARKNESS RISING

The Mandalorian Enclave Invasion of the Galactic Alliance was over just as quickly as hostilities between the two nations began. Though dealt a heavy blow, the Alliance managed to steady itself and regain momentum following the loss of multiple border worlds - each of which had been swiftly brought back into the Federal Assembly as the vast Armadas of GADF Warships and Relief Vessels that surged into the Southern Regions. However, though short-lived, the conflict was merely the beginning of a larger series of crises that would wrack the Galactic Alliance and the Galaxy at large, beginning with the Sith Order striking out from its holdings in the historical Sith Worlds of the Esstran Sector.

The Caldera Crisis marked the opening of conflict between the Galactic Alliance and the Sith Order as the latter struck against the planets of Yavin IV and Celanon. In turn, the Galactic Alliance deployed the GADF into the region to fight a defensive campaign in a bid to stop further encroachment and expansion of the Sith Order. During the events of the Caldera Crisis, the Alliance found new allies in the Mandalorian Protectors and even sought to assist in protecting the Rimward Trade League by deploying the Thesselon Squadron to assist at Susevfi.

It is during this time that we find Aether Systems fully embroiled in supporting the massive war machine that is the Galactic Alliance Defense Forces, specifically, the Galactic Alliance Navy. The Caldera Crisis, and the ensuing Chaos that it caused, resulted in the Corporation seeking to further protect its manufacturing assets in the Deep Core, resulting in the creation of the Javelin-class Frigate and the Aegis-class Heavy Cruiser. These Capital Ships have been specifically deployed within the Keera Major System to protect the vital Shipyards of Aether Systems located in the region. Aether Systems also began to plan additional designs, currently in the development phases, to further broaden their Corporate Fleet to better secure and protect their current assets in the Keera Major System.

With the conflict between the Galactic Alliance and the Sith Order growing in scope, Aether Systems saw the need to further bolster the Naval power of the Alliance and fill in what had been considered gaps in certain classifications that the Navy had been lacking. This led to the development and deployment of such vessels as the Agave-class Picket Ship and Warrior-class Gunships; thus beginning a series of designs that utilized a base design to produce multiple variations from a standardized hull and keel to rapidly produce multiple Capital Ships. This embracing of Standardization can also be seen in the similar designs shared by the Hajen-class Fleet Tender and the Sacheen-class Light Escort, as well as the Majestic-class Heavy Cruiser and the Defender-class Assault Carrier which were also produced in this fashion.

During this time, Aether Systems was contracted by the Galactic Alliance for an ambitious new project, the Modernization and replacement of the aging Dreadnoughts and Super Star Destroyers deployed by the Galactic Power. This vote of confidence, greatly empowered and only strengthened the deep ties between the Galactic Alliance and Aether Systems as the latter first developed the Starbird-class Star Defender which would go on to replace the older Plenipotentiary-class Dreadnoughts that had recently been decommissioned. With the newly established Starbird-class being deployed, Aether Systems then turned to a much more daunting task, one that would see the design and ultimately the deployment of the Viscount-class Sector Defender which would be christened the ANS Mon Mothma and serve as the Flagship of the Supreme Commander.

As the Caldera Crisis continued to grow, the squabbling of the Federal Assembly also threatened the efficiency and cohesion of the Alliance as voices called for action whilst turning around and preventing action from being taken. It was this concern, coupled with the crises that the Alliance faced both externally and internally, that resulted in the development of a contingency plan. The Solania Initiative was penned by the owner of Aether Systems, the current Galactic Alliance Supreme Commander, Amelia von Sorenn, and was intended to be implemented to provide a means by which the Alliance could protect itself and act without the need for approval from the Federal Assembly; as it would utilize many of the assets and infrastructure already established by Aether Systems to effective and rapidly produce a clandestine force. However, implementation of this Initiative was delayed as the Galactic Alliance found itself defending against an Invasion of the Deep Core.

Elements of the Brotherhood of the Maw had reestablished themselves in the Galaxy, and by utilizing an unknown means, had managed to strike at the heart of the Galactic Alliance. Though the Alliance fought hard, they were ultimately pushed out of the Deep Core, in part, due to this new Dark Empire utilizing vessels that had Cloaking Devices. Seeing this new threat, and seeking a counter, Aether Systems rapidly developed and deployed the Cuirassier-class Countermeasures Ship, each fitted with a Crystal Gravfield Trap. Unfortunately, due to the cost of the Gravfield Trap, and the current blockade of the Keera Major System by the Dark Empire, only a handful of these vessels had been completed and managed to reach the Alliance.

Aether Systems now finds itself holding onto the hope that the Alliance can retake the Deep Core as the Corporation maintains a tight hold on its shaking footing in the Keera Major System, unwilling to surrender the Orbital Shipyards or turn its production capabilities against the very Alliance that uplifted it to its current position of prestige.

DARKEST BEFORE THE DAWN

The Dark Empire, the resurgent Brotherhood of the Maw, struck a decisive blow against the Galactic Alliance during its surprise attack and maintains a stranglehold on the Deep Core. However, Aether Systems remains staunchly defiant, employing Blockade Runners and Smugglers to slip supplies into the vast storehouses of the Keera Major Orbital Array. The company continues to remain defiant and holds out hope that the Galactic Alliance will be able to reclaim the Deep Core and bring relief to the beleaguered shipyards.

Keera Major, and by extension, Aether Systems, was only able to remain this defiant thanks to the vast Orbital Array that was constructed before the Dark Empire launched its surprise attack against the Galactic Alliance. The Keera Major Orbital Array is the spiritual successor of Project Epsilon, also known as The Astraeus, which served as a mobile headquarters of the defunct Von Sorenn Industries. Development on the Orbital Array began as a means to assist in handling the refugee crisis created by the continuing Caldera Crisis, as well as recruit skilled laborers and technicians.

Development of the Graetiea-class Space Colony ensured that large numbers of individuals could be housed whilst undergoing the resettlement process and required background checks. As the number of refugees created by the Caldera Crisis continued to grow, Aether Systems quickly developed and established the Salus-class Medical Station to provide medical care and first aid to the refugees and to prevent the outbreak of any number of diseases or viruses. These stations formed the core building blocks of what would eventually become the Orbital Shipyards seen today.

With Aether Systems further entrenching itself within the Galactic Alliance by continuing to support the Interstellar Government, the need to ensure that its interests were defended, grew. This resulted in the development of the Nerio-class Orbital Starfighter Dock, which is utilized to maintain and deploy Starfighter and Bomber Squadrons; the Mars-class Orbital Defense Platform was also developed and deployed during this time to provide additional defensive capabilities in securing Keera Major. These two designs would also form the core defense of Keera Major and would work in tandem with the Defense Fleet established by Aether Systems.

Aether Systems remains one of the most prolific names in the Starshipwright Community, and it is thanks to its construction capabilities and the manufacturing facilities that it can access. Furthering their manufacturing capabilities to provide larger numbers of warships and starfighters to the Alliance resulted in the development of the Vulcan-class Orbital Manufacturing Facility. A number of these facilities were deployed in orbit around Keera Major and formed the bulk of the company's manufacturing capability.

As the orbital space around Keera Major continued to be developed, Aether Systems set out on its most ambitious project which would only be eclipsed when it was later contracted to assist in producing the Super Star Defenders of the Galactic Alliance. The Olympus-class Orbital Manufacturing Facility was heavily inspired by The Astraeus and owes its development and construction to its predecessor. The Olympus-class forms the crown jewel of the manufacturing capabilities of Aether Systems and remains one of the most heavily guarded and defended Orbital Facilities in the Galaxy.

Ensuring that all of these Orbital Stations were maintained and had the raw materials needed was a problem whose solution can be seen in the development of the Opis-class Orbital Supply Stations. These vast stations were designed to house hundreds of thousands of metric tons of raw materials and supplies that the stations in orbit of Keera Major would require to continue functioning. It is also thanks to these stations that the populace of Keera Major hasn't starved, as its vast supplies were opened to combat the effects of the blockade of the system.

With all of these Orbital Stations in place, it was only a matter of time until the idea was brought forward to link them together. In a complicated ballet of micro adjustments and near misses, the stations were brought into a geosynchronous orbit around Keera Major and ultimately linked together into a singular massive Orbital Array. This not only ensured greater connectivity between the stations it also produced a similar day-night cycle on the station; however, the station remains in operation with rotating shifts.

Aether Systems also unveiled the Aether IPC-17 just before the Dark Empire invaded the Deep Core; with the vessel being instrumental in securing the Keera Major System. The Aether IPC-17 continues to remain an important aspect of the Defense Fleet that continues to defiantly protect Keera Major and the Orbital Array. Both the planet and company remain defiant, and hopeful that the Galactic Alliance will be able to recapture the Deep Core and push the Dark Empire from the Region.
