STRENGTHS
  • Starfighter Support - Unlike similar vessels of its size the Tarisian Customs Frigate was designed to carry a singular starfighter squadron to provide additional support during inspections and routine patrols. This provides an additional strength that allows the Frigate to handle minor threats such as those posed by pirates and smugglers that may be operating in their area of patrol.
  • Maneuverability - The Tarisian Customs Frigate was designed with speed and maneuverability in mind to ensure that it was more than capable of running down fleeing pirate vessels or overtaking disabled craft before they have a chance to repair their damage and flee.
  • Boarding Tubes - Each Customs Frigate is equipped with specialized boarding tubes for use in breaching the hulls or airlocks of disabled vessels or those vessels that have otherwise refused regular docking procedures. These specialized assault tubes utilize a high-power plasma torch to cut directly into the hull to permit access to the interior of the vessel.

WEAKNESSES
  • Minimal Defenses - As the Tarisian Customs Frigate was designed for speed, maneuverability, and the addition of an increased armament and hangar capacity, it is otherwise lacking in defensive capabilities. Though more than capable of handling light freighters, corvettes, and starfighters most commonly associated with smugglers and minor pirates, it is otherwise outclassed by heavier Capital Ships requiring additional support when facing such a threat.
  • Boarding Tubes - Though utilized as a means to permit entry onto a disabled vessel, these specialized boarding tubes can likewise be utilized against the Customs Frigate itself. As such, a vessel feigning disability or distress has the potential of causing damage to the Customs Frigate by fleeing from an attached vessel. This can result in a torn tube or damaged external hull located near the docking tube. Likewise, a larger enemy force could also utilize the docking tube to initiate their own counterattack on the Customs Frigate.
  • No Support Craft - While the Tarisian Customs Frigate can support a singular starfighter squadron, it does not have the room to carry support craft. This lack of additional support craft requires that the vessel operates near friendly territory or those regions in which support craft are present to readily supply the vessel, often preventing it from journeying too far from its home base.

DESCRIPTION
As the Taris Trading Company begins to look towards the Galaxy to expand its wealth, it must also look towards its own home interest and protect those already established lines of trade and hyperspace routes in use in and around the Taris System. In order to accomplish this and secure those already established routes from smugglers and pirates, the Tarisian Customs Frigate was designed and has begun to be deployed within the Taris System and abroad. Inspired by the Imperial Customs Frigate and the smaller Light Corvette that had been utilized by the Imperial Customs Office, the vessel was designed with speed and maneuverability in mind to ensure that it was more than capable of running down those vessels often associated with smugglers and pirates such as light freighters, starfighters, and small corvettes. The Tarisian Customs Frigate is equipped with a heavier armament that is focused on disabling vessels rather than destroying as also seen in the inclusion of specialized Assault Boarding Tubes that are utilized to secure and grant entry into said disabled craft. However, these tubes can also be utilized against the Customs Frigate in equal measure and thus caution in their deploying should be erred.

Though the vessel is equipped to carry a singular starfighter squadron which is often more than similarly sized vessels are capable, it lacks the capability to carry support craft which often forces the Tarisian Customs Frigate to rely on dedicated support craft or keeps the vessel closer to its home ports or friendly territories and fleet formations. Likewise, the inclusion of a hangar bay and expanded armaments while also focusing on its speed and maneuverability resulted in a lack of defensive capabilities. While the Tarisian Customs Frigate is more than capable of standing against Light Freighters, Starfighters, and Light Corvettes, it requires additional support when it comes to engaging Capital Ships. It is highly suggested that these vessels are not pitted against Capital Ships unless they are part of a larger Fleet Formation and even then are only utilized to screen the fringes of an engagement.

The Tarisian Customs Frigate fills a minor niche with its focus on Patrol and Customs Enforcement that is often charged to larger Capital Ships. By utilizing these Customs Frigates in this manner, it ensures that the Taris Trading Company can utilize their heavier vessels for more pressing matters such as dealing with rogue warlords or pirate fleets that may further threaten the peace and stability of those established Trade Routes or prevent newer Trade Routes from being discovered and established.
