STRENGTHS
  • Extreme Armaments - Each Aegis-class boasts an impressive array of weaponry, however, it is the Proton Beam Cannons that form the bulk of its heavier armaments. Originally developed by the Galactic Empire, these weapons provide the vessel a means to deal a heavy blow against a target while executing its orders to protect corporate assets.
  • Light Carrier - The overall design of the vessel emphasized the need and capability to deploy multiple squadrons to provide support for the vessel as well as any designated objective to be protected. As such, these vessels are capable of supporting and deploying three wings of Starfighters, each organized into three squadrons per wing, as well as up to two additional squadrons of Support Craft of various sizes and configurations.
WEAKNESSES
  • Sluggish - The addition of dedicated power generators, additional subsystems, and the expansion of its hangar capacity has resulted in a marked decrease in the overall speed and maneuverability of the vessel.
  • Firing Arc Coverage - Though heavily armed, many of these weapons are focused on specific firing arcs and cover common attack vectors. This has resulted in limited coverage along the aft and dorsal firing arcs, rendering the vessel more vulnerable in these areas.
  • Directional Firing - While the Aegis-class is heavily armed, many of its primary weapon systems are limited in their movement in regards to tracking and firing. Specifically, its primary battery of cannons is stationary and requires that the entire vessel be moved and used as a targeting system to be fired upon an enemy target; greatly reducing its capabilities.
  • Single Ignition - The Aegis-class is equipped with three powerful Proton Beam Cannons that comprise its primary weapon systems. However, these weapons are incapable of being fired in tandem and are only capable of being fired singularly, one after the other. This is to prevent the dedicated, and often delicate, systems that power these weapons from experiencing undue stress and prevent damage to these systems.
  • Limited Production - Due to the complicated nature and semi-uniqueness of the primary weapon batteries, there are no more than a half dozen of these vessels known to currently exist. Likewise, those few vessels that do exist are not known to be deployed outside of the Keera Major System unless deemed absolutely necessary.
DESCRIPTION
The need to ensure the protection and continued operation of corporate property and assets, even more so during a time of war, has not been lost on Aether Systems. As the corporation continues its support of the Galactic Alliance during these trying times, its main focus on ensuring that they are capable of maintaining their production capacity has become paramount. It is for this reason that additional resources and time have been spent on beginning production of a flotilla of corporate vessels to ensure that Keera Major can continue its work unmolested. With the introduction of the Javelin-class Frigates, Aether Systems developed and deployed alongside, the newly christened Aegis-class Heavy Cruiser to further bolster the defensive capabilities of the Keera Major Orbital Array.

Developed to provide additional heavy firepower, the Aegis-class is known to be equipped with three individual Proton Beam Cannons, a weapon that was originally developed and deployed by Palpatine's Galactic Empire. To ensure that these weapons operated effectively, additional power generators and subsystems were added to the vessel; with the additional equipment as well as the expansion of its hangar capacity resulting in a noticeable decline of both its speed and maneuverability. The weapons themselves are often described as finicky, and to prevent any misfire or overloads, each barrel was designed to fire individually rather than in tandem to prevent any potential compromise or damage to the additional systems. Likewise, as the weapons are not mounted on a track or turreted system, the vessels themselves must be realigned and oriented towards a target to fire the weapons effectively.

Due in no short part to the semi-uniqueness of the primary weapon systems installed on these vessels, the Aegis-class is known to be a limited production run, and no more than six of these vessels are known to currently exist. Even then, these vessels are not deployed outside of the Keera Major System unless such an order is deemed to be absolutely necessary for the protection and securing of Corporate property and assets. The overall design of the vessel also emphasized the need to serve in the role of a Light Carrier, and as such, it is capable of deploying multiple squadrons of Starfighters as well as supporting up to two additional Support squadrons as required. Though slow to maneuver and lacking the speed of similarly sized vessels, the Aegis-class more than makes up for it with its hangar capacity and its heavy armaments.
