STRENGTHS
  • Planetary Assault Carrier - Often deployed in the vanguard of a naval force the GADF Pulsar is capable of carrying and deploying a full Division alongside a Modular Garrison to secure a beachhead on or establish control over a planet.
  • Main Gun - The GADF Pulsar is equipped with a Planetary HVs-2 that serves as the main gun of the Capital Ship. This weapon is known to fire bursts of super-accelerated solid slugs at a target to batter down its shields and eventually its hull.
  • Fast Battleship - An older classification that in concept emphasied speed without undue compromise of a Capital Ship's armor or armaments. This can be seen in the increased speed and maneuverability of the GADF Pulsar compared to similarly sized Capital Ships.
  • Pulse Mass Mines - A formidable and unique weapon system deployed by the Hapans, these weapons are known to produce a Mass Shadow similar to the effect of a Gravity Well Projector in an Interdictor-class Capital Ship. The GADF Pulsar has been equipped with a number of tubes in order to deploy these weapons.
WEAKNESSES
  • Main Gun - Though a formidable weapon system, the HVs-2 has a known exploitable flaw that is apparent during the firing phase of the weapon. In order to properly fire the weapon, the shields of the GADF Pulsar must be momentarily dropped in time to fire the weapon and raise following its discharge. Accurate timing could result in the weapon being crippled and the Capital Ship being heavily damaged.
  • Planetary Assault Carrier - The GADF Pulsar lacks any form of Starfighter support as its hangar capacity is allocated to the Support Craft Squadrons that are utilized in deploying the Division and Modular Garrison that the Capital Ship carries. This design requires that the GADF Pulsar rely upon Carriers for the needed Starfighter Squadrons that the Capital Ship itself lacks.
  • Sublight Drive Systems - Maintaining the Hapan design features and overall aesthetics has resulted in a similar design flaw that is seen among various other Hapan vessels. The location of the primary drive systems is relatively exposed and easily accessible resulting in damage, crippling the vessel.
  • Megamasers - A unique piece of Chiss technology that has made its way into the GADF Pulsar design that utilizes both kinetic and laser energy to damage a target. However, the capacitors used to power these weapons require a longer charging cycle often resulting in a slower firing rate compared to the other weapons installed on the Capital Ship.
  • Fast Attack Craft - The GADF Pulsar was designed to withstand withering fire and face an enemy toe-to-toe in an engagement as blows are exhanged. Many of its weapon systems are known to have difficulty tracking fast-moving vessels, often requiring that the GADF Pulsar rely upon equally fast-moving craft to provide an effect defensive screen.
  • Hangar Access - Located on both the Starboard and Port of the GADF Pulsar, though heavily defended, the Hangar Bays are still easily accessible. This can potentially lead to a situation in which an enemy craft is capable of discharging its weapons internally or a boarding party being landed in the hangar.
DESCRIPTION
Subject to speculation and rumor the existence of the Pulsar-class Battlecruiser was always dismissed as myth and hearsay without any real substance, all of which was a product of the Hapes Consortium to keep their most powerful Capital Ship shrouded from the rest of the Galaxy and even its own people. It was not until the Galactic Alliance and the Hapes Cluster became more closely entwined was the existance of these vessels made known and even then they were still kept shrouded in legend much as the Transitory Mists kept the Hapes Cluster shrouded from the Galaxy. The GADF Pulsar-class is a variant of the Hapan Pulsar-class that has been shrouded in myth and legend and revies an older classification that has not been utilized since surface naval classifications; the Fast Battleship. The GADF Pulsar-class was designed around a concept that emphasied speed and maneuverability without undue compromise to the armaments or defenses of the Capital Ship. This has resulted in a Capital Ship that is often faster and more maneuverable than Capital Ships of a similar size that are often designated as Battlecruisers.

The GADF Pulsar-class also fills a secondary role as a Planetary Assault Carrier due to it often being deployed in Vanguard Forces or at the head of an Armada. This can be seen in its capability to carry and deploy a Division of ground forces alongside a Modular Garrison which is often utilized to either secure a beachhead on a targeted planet or to deploy a force to secure a planet that was recently captured or experiencing unrest. However, much of the internal hangar capacity of the GADF Pulsar is dedicated to the Support Craft Squadrons that are utilized to deploy the Ground Forces carried by the Capital Ship. This drawback means that the GADF Pulsar is more reliant upon Carriers or similar Capital Ships for their Starfighter Support against enemy Squadrons. Additionally, as the GADF Pulsar was designed to withstand heavy firepower of larger Capital Ships, many of its weapons are known to have difficulty in tracking smaller fast-moving vessels, further requiring a reliance on similar craft to provide an effective defensive screen.

At the center of the GADF Pulsar-class is its main gun the HVs-2 Hypervelocity Gun, a weapon that is often deployed as a planetary emplacement against orbiting stations or Capital Ships. However, while the HVs-2 is a formidable armament that fires bursts of super-accelerated solid slugs, it does have a design flaw that can be exploited. When timed accurately, due to the shields needing to be lowered in order to properly fire the weapon, a strike has the potential to cripple the weapon and result in the Capital Ship being heavily damaged. Additional weapons that have been installed on the GADF Pulsar-class are Megamasers, a unique piece of Chiss technology that were likely acquired during an act of espionage, that utilize both kinetic and laser engery to damage a target. Unfortunately the capacitors that were utilized to power these weapons require a longer charging time to properly cycle, resulting in a slower firing rate compared to the other armaments installed on the Capital Ship.

Coming from the realm of myth and legends made relatity, the GADF Pulsar is a formidable craft that will provide an additional force multiplier to the Galactic Alliance, however, these Capital Ships are limited in their deployment capabilities due to their own limited numbers. In total, there are no more than a dozen GADF Pulsar-class Fast Battleships that are currently deployed, making them a finite resource for the Galactic Alliance. However, it should not be dismissed as the appearance and presence of a Pulsar-class could mean a shift in the fortunes of war.
