STRENGTHS
  • Fleet Carrier - The overall design of the craft was to produce a vessel capable of carrying multiple Starfighter squadrons, and in this regard, it has succeeded. The vessel is capable of carrying and deploying three full wings of Starfighters - each organized into three squadrons per wing - whilst also retaining an additional squadron that can be moved between the wings to replenish losses or provide additional support.
  • Heavily Defended - To ensure that the Starfighters that launched from the vessel had a home to return to, additional defensive measures and armor plating were installed on the vessel.
  • Control Towers - Located near the hangar bays are two structures that are utilized to assist with the deployment and tracking of deployed and returning Starfighters. These towers also house the equipment that can be utilized to remotely pilot a small craft back to the hanger in the event that the craft is experiencing an emergency.
WEAKNESSES
  • Minimal Armaments - Due to the increased focus on hangar capacity and defensive measures has resulted in the removal and decrease of the vessel's overall armament.
  • Hangar Entry - The placement and orientation of the main hangar bay have resulted in an unintended drawback that has the possibility of rendering the vessel inoperable or limiting its ability to properly launch and recover Starfighters. A craft that was to strike - either via collision or targeted attack - the forward hangar could potentially damage the internal areas of the ship, limit its capability to launch its squadrons, or open it up for a boarding action.
  • Command Bridge - With a similar design to older Star Destroyers, the vessel's command bridge is located at an elevated position above the main body of the vessel. This places the bridge in a vulnerable position in the event of an attack, with damage to this section potentially crippling the vessel.
DESCRIPTION
The ability to secure an operational theater and retain starfighter superiority can often mean the difference between achieving victory or experiencing defeat as Starfighter and Bomber Squadrons can prove just as tactile and ever bit important to a changing conflict as even the largest of Warships. The Tython-class Fleet Carrier was developed to further secure that Superiority and ensure that the fleets of the Galactic Alliance would not need or want a Starfighter Squadron. Much of the design of the vessel focused on increasing the required hangar capacity to ensure that as many squadrons as possible were carried aboard the vessel, and this was accomplished due in part to the reduction of its overall armaments.

To further ensure that the deployed squadrons had a home to return to, additional armor plating was installed in the hull as well as the installation of additional defensive systems and measures. However, this inclusion of additional defensive systems has proven a drain on the vessel, having greatly reduced its overall speed and maneuverability. Though designed to rapidly deploy and recover squadrons, the location of its primary hangar has resulted in an unintended drawback, due to the possibility of it being rendered inoperable or limiting its operational capacity. The location of the main hangar bay towards the middle front of the vessel leaves the interior of the vessel open and much more easily accessible than the hangar bays located on the starboard and port sides of the vessel.

Further systems that were included in the design were the addition of two control towers near the hangar bays, each of which is utilized to further ease the task of deploying, tracking, and recovering squadrons. They also contain the systems that are utilized to remotely pilot a starfighter back to the hangar in the event of an emergency in which the pilot is incapable of retaining control of the craft. The location of these towers is easily spotted and is just as easy and tantalizing a target at the Command Bridge that follows a similar design to older Imperial Star Destroyers. Overall, the Tython-class Fleet Carrier is a complementary piece to the puzzle that is the Naval Forces of the Galactic Alliance Defense Force.
