STRENGTHS
  • Improved Targeting Computers - Previous design iterations intended the Battle Dragon to be deployed en masse against fewer targets resulting in the lack of proper targeting systems. The GADF Battle Dragon was designed with additional upgraded Targeting Systems to overcome this drawback and provide more accurate firepower in lieu of the standard "fire everything and hope it hits something" mentality.
  • Hangar Capacity - The GADF Battle Dragon maintains many aspects of its progenitors including the capability to deploy a fighter wing of three squadrons.
  • Pulse Mass Mines - Each GADF Battle Dragon is capable of deploying specialized space mines originally developed by the Hapes Consortium. These space mines, when deployed, produce an artificial mass shadow that can prevent vessels from entering hyperspace much like a Gravity Well Projector.
WEAKNESSES
  • Sublight Drive Systems - Maintaining the design aspects of previous iterations has resulted in the unfortunate inheritance of the flaws and drawbacks that were present in the original design. As such the Drive Systems of the GADF Battle Dragon can be easily damaged, crippling the vessel.
  • Low Maneuverability - The GADF Battle Dragon was not designed as a fast-attack vessel or centered around speed resulting in a slower vessel that lacks the nimble maneuverability of similarly sized or specialized Cruisers.
  • Weapon Rotation Drive - Though upgraded with more advanced capacitors and power regulation systems, the GADF Battle Dragon maintained the rotational support struts and weapon systems of the original iteration of the Hapan Battle Dragon as a means to more effectively rotate between the myriad of weapon systems present on the updated variant. In the event that these drives were damaged, the weapon systems would be locked in place as the drive would become inoperable.
DESCRIPTION
As a new conflict looms over the horizon the Galactic Alliance has sought out new allies and partners to stand against a renewed Mandalorian war effort. Among these new allies are those of the Hapes Consortium and their famed Battle Dragons and Nova Cruisers which have safeguarded the Hapes Cluster since time immemorial. Adopting the designs and retrofitting older models has seen the production of a new variant, the Galactic Alliance Defense Force Battle Dragon - GADF Battle Dragon. These newer vessels have been upgraded to include more reliable and advanced capacitors and power regulation systems to overcome the issues experienced in older variants which required weapon systems to be rotated out to allow capacitors to recharge. Likewise, as previous variants were designed and intended to be utilized en masse and were lacking targeting systems, the GADF Battle Dragon was equipped with multiple advanced targeting systems to overcome that flaw.

Maintaining the original design, however, has also meant the unfortunate inheritance of other flaws that are more difficult to eliminate without a full redesign of the vessel. One such flaw can be seen in the central core, specifically the sublight drive systems which could be damaged, thus crippling the craft. Additionally, though equipped with more advanced capacitors, the GADF Battle Dragon maintains the weapon rotation drives to easily cycle weapon systems depending on the situation and what may be required. These drive systems can also be damaged, which could result in weapon systems being locked in place and prevented from operating at full efficiency. Each GADF Battle Dragon also maintains the capability of fielding a fighter wing consisting of three squadrons to assist with Anti-Starfighter screens or routine patrols when the GADF Battle Dragon is deployed in such a capacity.

While the Hapani continue to embrace a more isolationist culture, their willingness to join the Galactic Alliance has given the Defense Force a valuable new tool to be utilized in the upcoming conflict. The GADF Battle Dragon represents the standard in new Battle Dragon design and may yet serve as a catalyst to begin sweeping new advancements in Hapani technology and designs. And as the first few GADF Battle Dragons are delivered to the Galactic Alliance, they are surely to have an equally prestigious and long service among the Galactic Alliance Navy as their forebears have among the Hapan Royal Navy.
