STRENGTHS
  • Tandem Cockpit - The Ferrazid-class utilizes a similar design to that of the Aether TC-M7 series of vessels. This tandem cockpit shares the same layout and is intended to ease pilots into the use of the Ferrazid by providing a setup that is familiar to those vessels that they were trained with. The pilot is sat in the primary flight seat located in the forward of the cockpit, with the gunner seat located to the rear of the cockpit with each seat containing its own set of controls so that the crew can focus on individual tasks.
  • Astromech Slot - Much like the Aether TC-M7 series, the Ferrazid-class is equipped with the capability to slot in an Astromech Droid to further assist with the operation of the vessel by maintaining and seeing to minor tasks and repairs that would otherwise be distracting to the pilot and gunner. This capability also ensures that the Astromech can fly the vessel in a limited capacity in the event that one or both crew members are incapacitated allowing for the retrieval of the vessel and its crew.
  • R-PB6 Repair Unit - Due to the expectation that the Ferrazid-class would be coming into confrontations with equally or more heavily armed vessels, the design includes a specialized Repair Unit. This unit is utilized by launching short-range probe droids that can be utilized to repair nearby vessels.

WEAKNESSES
  • Power Drain - The primary weapon system utilized by the Ferrazid-class is a set of H9 Turbolaser Cannons; a weapon system that is more commonly seen on Corvettes and larger vessels. These armaments are known to rapidly drain the power from the Starfighter and require that the gunner be patient rather than trigger-happy when utilizing the main armaments. Successive or overuse of the primary weapons can render the vessel inert and incapable of continued use due to a lack of power.
  • Low Squadron Count - Due in part to the size of the Ferrazid, the Starfighter is limited in the number of craft that can be assigned to a squadron or carried by a dedicated carrier or similar military craft capable of deploying Starfighters. This results in a smaller number of these craft that can be fielded in a combat situation.
  • Power Converter - Each Ferrazid-class craft is equipped with a specialized L-41c engine component. This Power Converter allows the gunner to draw power from the engines and divert it to the weapon systems of the craft allowing them to be fired for a prolonged period. However, the primary drawback of utilizing this converter is the decrease in the output of the engines which results in a slower speed for the craft.

DESCRIPTION
Named after the Ferrazid Hound that is native to the planet of Taris, the Ferrazid-class Heavy Starfighter is a heavily armed and armored craft utilized in the protection of assets and important locals of the Taris Trading Company. The craft is equipped with a set of H9 Turbolaser Cannons which are more commonly seen equipped to larger vessels such as Corvettes and Frigates, owing to the craft's heavier armament rating. However, the primary weapon systems are known to heavily draw upon the power reserves of the craft and successive or heavy use of the H9 Turbolaser Cannons is known to render the Ferrazid-class inert due to heavy power consumption. The layout of the cockpit of the craft is carried over from the Aether TC-M7 with the intention being that it would provide a more familiar layout and thus be easier for the pilot and gunner to quickly become familiar with their craft. This design places the pilot in the primary flight seat located towards the front of the cockpit while the gunner is seated to the rear just in front of the slot that is utilized for an accompanying Astromech Droid.

Due to the relative likelihood that the vessel would come into conflict with Starfighters or larger vessels, the Ferrazid-class is equipped with a specialized repair unit that can be utilized to launch short-range probe droids that can in turn effect repairs on damaged systems or neighboring vessels. An additional component that is included with the design of the craft is an engine component that allows power to be diverted from the engines to the weapon systems. Though this conversion provides the means by which the weapon systems can be fired for a prolonged period of time, it has the drawback of reducing the vessel's already somewhat limited speed, making it more vulnerable to faster-moving craft.

The primary utilization of the Ferrazid-class is to provide escort and patrol capabilities along the major Hyperspace Routes near the planet Taris. The Ferrazid-class is thus often seen deployed alongside Tarisian-Heavy Cruisers or vessels bearing the mark of the Taris Trading Company.
