STRENGTHS
  • Light Carrier - The GADF Magnetar was designed around the function and to carry out the service of a Light Carrier. Each Capital Ship is capable of deploying three full fighter wings - each comprised of three squadrons - along with the capacity to carry an additional two squadrons of support craft such as shuttles or troop transports.
  • Heavy Defenses - The overall design of the GADF Magnetar ensured that the Capital Ship was just as capable of defending itself in those critical first moments of deploying its Starfighter Complement. This can be seen in the vast array of defensive armaments that are predominately focused around the main hangar bays on the port and starboard sections of the vessel.
  • ECM Suites - Each GADF Magnetar is equipped with an enhanced sensor package to assist in fleet-based Counter-Electronic Warfare.
WEAKNESSES
  • Lightly Armed - With its primary focus on its role as a Light Carrier, the GADF Magnetar is lacking in heavier armaments seen in other vessels of its size to ensure the capacity required to carry additional Starfighter Squadrons.
  • Command Bridge - Each GADF Magnetar is marked by a precarious design flaw that placed the command bridge of the Capital Ship at the apex of a large arch-shaped superstructure. The location means that the command bridge can be easily damaged, crippling the Light Carrier.
  • Spinal Trench - Located along the dorsal spine of the vessel are a series of smaller hangar bays that are utilized to store and deploy the support squadrons that each GADF Magnetar is capable of carrying. This area has limited coverage from the weapon systems of the vessel making it vulnerable to ramming attacks or boarding operations.
DESCRIPTION
There are many in history that have been brought low due to their underestimating of the importance and capability of Starfighters when it comes to naval engagements in the emptiness of space. The importance of Starfighter and Bomber Squadrons cannot be denied nor underplayed, and it is this focus that has resulted in the design of the GADF Magnetar-class. This Capital Ship was designed to provide additional Starfighter support with its primary function being the deployment of these assets as fitting of its Light Carrier classification. The GADF Magnetar is capable of deploying three full fighter wings - consisting of three squadrons each - while still being capable of providing additional support via reserve squadrons and support craft. However, the trade-off for this increased hangar capacity is the lack of armaments, with those installed being more for a purely defensive measure rather than any offensive operation compared to vessels of a similar size.

A strange design aesthetic of the GADF Magnetar can be easily seen in the location of the primary Command Bridge, which is located at the apex of an arch-shaped superstructure just above the dorsal spine of the Capital Ship. The location of the Command Bridge means that it could potentially be easily damaged, in turn crippling the Light Carrier and hindering its overall operation capabilities. Additionally, the Capital Ship was designed to ensure the rapid deployment and retrieval of Starfighters and Bombers, resulting in a design that kept Starfighter and Support craft in separate hangars. The bulk of the Support Craft Squadrons are kept in a series of hangars located in trench along the dorsal spine of the vessel; an area that is vulnerable to ramming attacks or boarding operations due to the limited weapon coverage in the area.

The GADF Magnetar-class was developed to support overall fleet operations and provide additional Starfighter and Bomber Squadron support by focusing on increased hangar capacity. These Capital Ships represent the understanding that in some cases, it is a singular Starfighter that can change the course of history and one's fortunes and that it couldn't hurt to bring as many to a fight as possible.
