STRENGTHS
  • Carrier - The Ackbar-class is known to be capable of carrying two Starfighter Wings - organized into three squadrons per wing - as well as up to three additional squadrons consisting of Support Craft and Shuttles.
  • Modularity - Like many of the Mon Calamari-designed vessels, the Ackbar-class is known for the ease with which the interior of the vessel can be modified, as well as the exterior due to the inclusion of the various bulbous, organic-like pods that dot the hull of the vessel. This allows the Ackbar-class to be utilized for any number of roles as a mission requires.
  • Secondary Command Bridges - Located at various intervals along the hull are additional command pods that can be utilized to maintain control of the vessel in the event that the primary bridge were crippled or otherwise destroyed.
WEAKNESSES
  • Sluggish - The Ackbar-class is not known for its maneuverability, nor is it likely to take first place in a race anytime soon. This is due to the design's focus on providing a carrier that was also capable of serving in the role of a Light Destroyer, trading speed and maneuverability in favor of additional armaments and defensive capabilities.
  • Automation - Many of the internal systems have been automated to allow for a smaller crew to operate the vessel without a loss in efficiency or combat capability. However, these automated systems are at the mercy of Ion-based weaponry; with their disabling or destruction resulting in a loss of efficiency and potential crippling of the vessel.
  • Ordnance Pods - The Ackbar-class maintains many of the design elements from the original Mon Calamari-designed vessels, which can be seen in the various bulbous, organic-like pods located along the hull. Many of these pods house the armaments of the vessel and their loss would mean a loss in the ability for the vessel to fight back during an engagement.
DESCRIPTION
The Ackbar-class Star Cruiser was originally intended to serve alongside other Mon Cala vessels in the defense of Dac prior to the planet being claimed by a resurgent Imperial Faction. With the designs being secreted away from Dac prior to its fall, the designs were brought to the Galactic Alliance and provided to Aether Systems to be produced to supplement the Capital Ships of the Galactic Alliance Navy. The Ackbar-class was designed to provide a Capital Ship that was capable of serving as both a Dedicated Carrier as well as standing on its own in a prolonged engagement. Accomplishing this saw the addition of heavier armaments, as well as increased defensive capabilities. Likewise, the internal structure of the vessel was modified to increase its hangar capacity to allow it to carry additional Starfighter Squadrons.

However, this increase in armaments, defenses, and hangar capacity was due to the design of the vessel sacrificing speed and maneuverability as the Ackbar-class has been noted as being sluggish in these regards. Likewise, to ensure that the craft was capable of being operated and maintained with a smaller crew, many of the internal systems of the vessel are highly automated with minor and secondary systems being controlled via these automated functions. It should be noted, however, that these systems are known to be highly susceptible to Ion-based weaponry, and their disabling or damage can result in a decrease in efficiency, with the potential of the vessel being crippled as these automated systems are knocked out. Maintaining many of the original aspects of Mon Calamari-designed vessels, the Ackbar-class is also highly modular with its internal structure being easily modified to fulfill whatever specific mission role is required - easily ensuring that the interior of no two vessels remains the exact same.

A further design adaptation that was introduced in this series of vessels was the inclusion of secondary command bridges to ensure that even if the primary command pod was disabled or destroyed, the vessel would retain its overall operational capacity and the crew could remain in control. The Ackbar-class provides the Galactic Alliance with an additional tool in its ever-growing chest that can be utilized to further provide protection to its populace or to push back against encroaching enemies.
