STRENGTHS
  • Improved Defenses - The overall design of the vessel saw an increase in the defensive capabilities both to ensure the longevity of the vessel as well as to ensure that its attached squadrons had a location to return to at the end of an engagement.
  • Assault Carrier - The Defender-class is capable of carrying a full starfighter wing with two additional squadrons in reserve. Additionally, it is capable of carrying a single squadron of Support Craft.
  • Modular Garrison - Each vessel is capable of carrying and deploying a singular modular garrison and an accompanying contingent to assist in securing a foothold or further boosting a defensive position on an already secured planet.
WEAKNESSES
  • Minimal Armaments - Making room for the expanded Hangar Capacity and associated functions to support multiple squadrons required the removal of other systems. In this case, the armaments were not a priority, resulting in many of these systems being removed and in turn the Defender-class having a lower rating of armaments.
  • Command Bridge - The design of the Defender-class is similar to other designs such as the Raddus-class Star Defender in that it is located at the end of the superstructure located along the ventral side of the vessel. Though more easily defended than if it were on the dorsal side, the location of the bridge is still precarious, and sufficient damage has the potential to render the vessel inoperable.
  • Sluggish - As the vessel focused on an increased defense and expanded hangar capacity, it was not designed for speed or maneuverability. This can be seen in its lower sublight speeds or the simple fact that it takes some time and distance for the vessel to properly execute a maneuver.
DESCRIPTION
In many conflicts, the need to secure gains and protect what you've already claimed is just as important as the armadas and armies that strike against one another. As the likelihood of the Galactic Alliance needing to conslidate gains or protect those worlds already within the Alliance grows the more the current conflicts grows, the Defender-class was designed to assist in this regard. The primary focus of the overall design for this particular model of Starship was on an increased hangar capacity, with the vessel being capable of deploying up to five Starfighter Squadrons as well as a singular squadron of Support Craft. Additionally, the vessel is known to be capable of carrying and deploying a modular garrison as well as its accompanying contingent.

The primary drawbacks of this design can be seen in a limited armament, as many of these weapon systems were removed in favor of increasing its hangar capacity as well as boosting its defensive capabilities. Likewise, the additional weight attributed to this has resulted in drop in the vessel's overall speed and maneuverability, making it unlikely that the Defender-class could outrun or outmaneuver similarly sized vessels or those specifically designed for those roles. Where the Defender-class differs, is the location of its command bridge, which shares a location similar to that seen on the Raddus-class Star Defender; being that it is located at the end of a superstructure along the ventral side of the vessel. Though this design was intended to allow the commander a better view of an engagement, its precarious location also makes for a tantalizing target. Unfortunately, sufficient damage or destruction can often result in the vessel being rendered inoperable.

As it becomes clearer that the Galactic Alliance may need to solidfy and fortify its gains whilst also attempting to prevent any further losses in territory, the Defender-class is a vessel designed to assist in this regard. Furthermore, its design is once that was developed to embrace efficiency, which can be seen in the basic hull design and systems which are also utilized in the production of the Majestic-class Heavy Cruiser.
