PLANESHIFT
Aether Systems faced its most difficult challenge during a period that would become known as the Core Wars, sparked by the sudden explosive conquest of the Deep Core by the Dark Empire. During this period, the Keera Major Orbital Array became an Alliance fortress in the heart of the Deep Core, with its vast stores of materials and supplies ensuring that the Keera Major System was capable of withstanding the blockade and remaining defiant in the face of this occupation. Despite being cut off from the Alliance and its major supply lines, Aether Systems utilized secretive hyperspace lanes, old smuggler routes, and blockade runners to ensure a steady trickle of supplies into the System.
Despite its isolation, the master shipwrights of Aether Systems did not remain idle, with their focus on ensuring the protection and continued freedom of the Keera Major System, these shipwrights introduced the first few prototypes of a newer Starship. The Outbound-class Heavy Cruiser first saw service in the protection of the Keera Major Orbital Array, and maintained a cordon around the System, assisting the region's already formidable defenses in keeping the Dark Empire at bay. While the Outbound-class Heavy Cruiser showed promise, it was not the only vessel that was designed by the master shipwrights of Aether Systems during this time, as development on the Kenobi-class Systems Defender progressed concurrently with the Outbound-class.
Following a setback at the planet of Woostri in which the Alliance attempted to halt an Invasion force by the Sith Order, the Deep Core was freed of the Dark Empire when an apparent struggle in the upper echelon resulted in the Dark Empire dissolving almost overnight and pulling back into their holdings in the Expansion Region and beyond. With the closing of the Core Wars, the Alliance once more established contact with the lost planets and holdings of an otherwise difficult-to-traverse region. As the Keera Major System was once more reconnected to the Alliance, Aether Systems turned over a fleet of Outbound-class Heavy Cruisers and the Kenobi-class Systems Defender to further bolster the Alliance Fleet and assist in further securing Alliance territory.
The reunification of the Deep Core with the greater whole of the Galactic Alliance was a success that was marred by a series of internal and external crises, most notably the death of the Hapan Queen Mother
Kha'la Daaray
, and catastrophic events that unfolded on the planets Ord Providence and Valusia, respectfully. A return to the ancient Jedi planet of Tython was meant to begin to mend the wounds of the Alliance, however, the very stars themselves had other plans. Reported first by outlying satellites and confirmed by numerous Core world Observatories, several of the outlying companion Galaxies merged with the greater Galactic Disk resulting in an unprecedented Stellar Convergence. As countless Star Systems were thrown out of their orbits, planets were shifted from their original positions, and even ancient and trusted Hyperspace Lanes were altered, the Alliance remained standing. This catastrophic shift forced the Alliance to rush to save countless citizens now trapped behind enemy lines and further shore up their territorial borders to prevent further chaos.
During this now unfolding Era, the need for Diplomatic means to secure people, hammer out new alliances, and ensure that some stability could be wrested from the chaos, it was Aether Systems who stepped forward once more to assist. Unveiling the Legation-class Light Cruiser, a small and nimble corvette, it began to form the corp escort element of many Diplomatic Fleets that found themselves deployed to the fringes of the Alliance. This cataclysmic Stellar Convergence had also not only affected the Alliance, it had caused the demise of previous enemies, as seen with the dissolution of the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders which in turn gave rise to the Mandalorian Empire. As the Galactic Alliance sought to forge an agreement with the fledgling Empire, Aether Systems took a step of its own to ensure its future. With Taris now in the hands of the Mandalorians, Aether Systems enacted a carefully calculated restructuring, and through a series of share exchanges and share repurchases, Aether Systems became the parent company of Taris Trading Company.
Ensuring its continued operation without the potential for interference from Taris, Aether Systems pushed forward with the development and deployment of additional warships, the first being Foerost-class Assault Frigate; effectively a scaled-down version of the much larger Hosnian-class Star Cruiser. The Foerost-class was designed to protect unarmed transports and vessels, secure existing Hyperlanes, and support its much larger sister vessels. Shortly after the introduction of the Foerost-class, Aether Systems introduced a new, semi-production run Battlecruiser that would form the core line of Command Ships, replacing two previous designs that had been introduced by companies with suspected ties to the Dark Empire. The Home One-class Star Cruiser sat comfortably between the Kenobi-class and the Hosnian-class, and was equally capable of modular modifications like many Mon Calamarian vessel designs.
Understanding the need to further secure Alliance territorial claims and bolster the Alliance Navy, Aether Systems introduced a Cruiser and Frigate combo that had previously been seen during the height of the New Republic. The Defender II-class Cruiser was developed and produced alongside the MC60c Frigate with both warships being deployed within days of the other. What distinguished the two from one another were their designs, as the Defender II was developed as an easily manufactured and rapidly produced Cruiser that did not specialize in any one aspect; whereas the MC60c distinguished itself with formidable speed and maneuverability at the cost of defensive capabilities and lack of hangar capacity. However, both of these vessels have shown to be more than capable in their duties and have further bolstered the Alliance Fleets with which they are attached.
Among these larger vessels, Aether Systems also ensured that smaller craft were not easily overlooked, nor was the importance of delivering Alliance troopers and materials planetside. The MT-2 Dropship was introduced as a capable transport that while lacking speed and maneuverability, made up for this drawback by getting Alliance personnel planetside, safely. Aether Systems also produced the E-9/a E-wing Escort Starfighter, the UT-75D U-wing Support Craft, and the BTL-S10 K-wing Assault Starfighter during this time to further reinforce the Starfighter and Support Squadrons of the Alliance Starfighter Corps.
With an increase in Anti-Alliance sentiment, the rise of the Criminal Syndicate Black Sun, and the unification of the Imperial Confederation, Aether Systems looks toward a future of uncertainty and unknowns. However, what is known is that it remains staunchly an ally of the Galactic Alliance, with its workers and personnel churning out vessels and vehicles of all known makes and models to ensure that even in the darkest of nights, the light of hope will never truly go out.
