STRENGTHS
  • Star Defender - The primary classification of the vessel can be easily seen due in part to its higher number of armaments as well as its impressive defensive capabilities.
  • Squadron Support - Increasing the hangar capacity of the vessel was a primary concern of the design and as such has resulted in the addition of multiple smaller hangar bays located throughout the vessel. This has provided the ship the capability to carry and deploy three full Starfighter wings - each organized into three squadrons per wing.
  • Modular Capsules - The vessel shares a similar design aesthetic as those produced by the Mon Calamari which can be seen in the bulbous constructs located along the main body of the vessel. These sections remain highly modular and provide the vessel with the capability to be just as versatile.
WEAKNESSES
  • Command Bridge - Located towards the rear of the vessel is a small protrusion that stands out above the rest of the craft is the command bridge of the vessel. Its location places it in a precarious position and makes for a tantalizing target. Damage to this section could potentially render the vessel inoperable or otherwise incapable of maintaining its operational efficiency.
  • Sluggish - Favoring armaments, defenses, and an increased hangar capacity has resulted in a vessel that is slower and more difficult to maneuver than other vessels of a similar size.
  • Primary Drive Systems - Installed in multiple banks towards the rear of the vessel are the drive systems that propel it through Subspace. Though the area is well-defended, it is still easily accessible and can be damaged by a skilled pilot or a lucky shot. This has the potential of crippling the vessel, preventing it from moving further or escaping into Hyperspace.
DESCRIPTION
The term Star Destroyer first originated with the idea of a warship - not necessarily a Destroyer type - that was capable of "destroying" entire Star Systems. The Thyferra-class Star Defender is the anthesis to this ideal, with its purpose to overcome such thoughts; able to project the power to defend entire Star Systems rather than lay them to waste. The primary focus of the design was threefold to ensure that the vessel was more than capable of discharging its overall mission profile to defend the systems of the Galactic Alliance, with the vessel itself trading speed and maneuverability in favor of heavier defenses and an increased hangar capacity. The Thyferra-class Star Defender is thus capable of deploying three full wings of Starfighter Squadrons - organized into three squadrons per wing - to support the vessel in executing its missions.

Much of the vessel retains the standard design aesthetic of the Mon Calamari Cruisers, including the bulbous constructs that are located along the main body of the vessel. Each of these sections is a modular pod, the modification of which allows for a highly versatile ship that is capable of overcoming nearly every obstacle that it comes to face. However, retaining that design aesthetic has also resulted in the accidental inclusion of older drawbacks and design flaws, which can be seen in the location of the command bridge; a small protrusion that stands out above the rest of the craft located towards the aft just above the engines. Its precarious location and ease of access make for a tantalizing target, with the potential result being the crippling of the vessel.

Further design flaws can be seen in the primary Sublight Drive Systems, or rather, their location which is just as easily accessed. Likewise, damage to these sensitive sections has the potential of crippling the vessel, rending it immobile, or even preventing it from escaping into hyperspace. The role of the Thyferra-class Star Defender remains one of importance, and even with these drawbacks, the need to protect the Galatic Alliance is paramount. In the coming days as conflict once more erupts in the galaxy, it is clear, that the Thyferra-class Star Defender will be there to defend the Galactic Alliance and their allies.
