STRENGTHS
  • Troopship - Designed to provide the Galactic Alliance with the means of ferrying larger forces between planets; the Carida-class is capable of ferrying two Brigades, their support personnel, and accompanying vehicles and materials. The vessel is also capable of ferrying and deploying up to two modular garrisons for the forces that it carries.
  • Hangar Capacity - The primary focus on the overall design of the Capital Ship was that of increasing its hangar capacity. To this end, the vessel is capable of fielding a small number of Starfighter Squadrons as well as a larger contingent of Support Craft Squadrons.
  • Bow Doors - The Carida-class was designed to include a set of specialized doors located at the bow of the vessel which can be opened when the vessel has landed on a planet's surface. Once deployed, this allows for the vessel to rapidly and easily disembark any ground forces, vehicles, or war materials that it was carrying to the theater in which it was deployed.
WEAKNESSES
  • Minimal Armaments - The Carida-class was not designed as a front-line Warship and as such it was only equipped with a minimal arsenal for defense or to be utilized in securing a landing zone when attempting to land on a planet.
  • Starfighter Coverage - Though boasting an extensive hangar capacity, the vessel is only capable of deploying a limited number of Starfighter Squadrons; often requiring the aid of dedicated carriers for any additional Starfighter or Bomber support.
  • Bow Doors - An unusual design aspect for a Cruiser that is otherwise a boon in aiding with the rapid deployment of internal cargo; these doors also mark a structural weak point in the vessel. Damage to these doors has the potential of preventing them from closing or venting the atmosphere in the bow compartment, rendering its use as a Troopship moot. Further damage to the door also has the potential to render the interior of the Capital Ship exposed and vulnerable to enemy strikes or boarding actions.
DESCRIPTION
The outcome of a Conflict is not decided solely on the victories of Naval Power alone; with the means to secure a Planetary Victory often requiring vessels that are capable of ferrying and deploying vast military forces and their vehicles. The Carida-class Military Transport was designed with the purpose of providing the Galactic Alliance with a means to transport and rapidly deploy troops, vehicles, and war materials into a theater of conflict. The overall design of the Capital Ship is largely focused on an increased hangar capacity which dominates much of the interior of the vessel as can be seen by its capability of carrying multiple squadrons of Support Craft. However, as it is geared more towards service as a Military Transport, it is limited in its ability to deploy Starfighter or Bomber Squadrons and often must rely on Dedicated Carriers for additional support.

A semi-unique design aspect of the vessel is the inclusion of a set of Bow Doors located towards the front of the Capital Ship. When the vessel has successfully landed on a planet, these bow doors can be opened to allow easier access to the interior of the vessel; thus increasing the efficiency in loading or unloading troops, vehicles, or materials. However, the addition of these doors has, unfortunately, resulted in a structural weak point in this section of the vessel. Damage to the doors has the potential of preventing them from operating properly, venting the atmosphere of the bow compartment, or even rendering the interior of the vessel exposed and vulnerable to further enemy attacks or boarding actions. With its primary role as a Military Transport, many of its weapons were stripped to provide additional room for its hangar capacity resulting in a diminished offensive capacity; those weapon systems that do remain are oriented to provide assistance in clearing landing zones rather than facing off against another Capital Ship.

The Carida-class Trans-Galactic Military Transport provides the Galactic Alliance with the means of rapidly deploying Planetary Forces to either new garrisons, reinforce established lines, or strike at a new location. Though containing minor design drawbacks and unintended structural weak points, these do not diminish its otherwise stellar capabilities in its role as a Troop Transport. Furthermore, its ability to deploy Modular Garrisons should not be overlooked, neither should its focus as a Troop Transport be scorned by those desiring another main-line Warship.
