Faction Fate of Denon: Attention, All Residents [Darkwire]

CgVrTyq.png

The broadcast shut off after only a few minutes, but a few minutes was enough. Across the whole, wide city-world of Denon, citizens stopped to listen. The message of freedom, of a life not linked to their productivity, rang true in many. Far too many of them turned back to their jobs, quotas and demands weighing too heavily to take action. The risks of resistance, of defiance, was too great. CorpSec had made that clear recently, their precints and prison were full of kindly neighbors and naive younglings whose only crime was paying attention.

It was too easy not to care. The galaxy didn't care. The Alliance Senate didn't care. No help was coming, so who was going to stick their nose up when all it got them was bloody?

Corpos paid attention, even if the Discrete tried not to. However brief, that broadcast was too dangerous a threat to ignore. It was nothing less than a deadly assault, one far too brazen to not respond in kind. Drawing CorpSec squads from across the planet, the armories were opened and heavy gear distributed. When CorpSec had the signal to go ahead, and it would get the signal very soon, the results were going to be worse than anything Denon had seen in its recent history.

Darkwire was paying attention as well. Recruits had trickled in by ones and twos, most of them uneager for action. A few saw it as more than inevitable, only relishing the chance to pick a side early before there were no more sides left to choose from. The veterans among Darkwire's Shadowrunners weren't waiting for that time to arrive, for them it was almost here. Or rather, she was almost here.

A train streamed fast along the crisscrossed routes of District 7, referred to by most as the “Seven Corners.” The sun rose late over in the Twilight Belt, and at 1047 hours, the train would cross the trigger threshold, ushering in the new dawn with the brilliant light of destruction. The passenger onboard would never reach the dignitary meeting with the Direx Board, and their absence would demand the attention of everyone. A striking blow against the reputation of the Corpos, drawing the attention of the apathetic Alliance Senate and the war-hardened New Jedi Order over the loss of one of their own...

Valery Noble, the Sword of the Jedi: first casualty of the Denon Civil War.

ATTENTION ALL READERS
Welcome to the end of the beginning. The day has finally arrived, where Darkwire and Corpos stop just making threats or heists or arrests. When the punches stop getting pulled. It has taken many years and many stories to get to this point, escalating hostilities and recovering from losses, but now the time is here. A new era for the faction, for CorpSec and the story on Denon.

Denon is now at war, with itself.

Objective 1: In the Pale Sunlight
wuaj0wW.png
ATTENTION ALL SHADOWRUNNERS: Run, hide, or fight! Those are your only choices now, with the Corpos cracking down hard on Seven Corners/District 7. This is Darkwire's home base, and you have many hideouts and contacts. Those are also the first places CorpSec will start looking. You'll need to find new resources or hidey-holes, fight back (for as long as you can), or run and regroup elsewhere.

Objective 2: Lock It Down!
qn8u2jl.png
ATTENTION ALL CORPOS: Darkwire is at it again! You don't know how or why, but the who is obvious. Terrorism has struck in District 7 and it must be brought under control. Guard the perimeter, secure your assets, and systematically hunt down the terrorists known as Darkwire. Clear their safehouses, block their escape routes, and root out their members and allies. Any suspects who refuse to submit to search and arrest may be subject to Judgement on the spot.

Objective 3: Noble Intentions
w84hMyBs.jpg
ATTENTION ALL DENONITES (INCL. OFFWORLDERS): Your peace has been shattered! Do you know what side you're on, if you even know that there are sides? Pick you head up, open your ears, a war has started outside your doors. Darkwire will be knocking, looking for aid. CorpSec will be busting them down, looking for terrorists. Will you help, hinder, or be caught in the middle of this violent chaos?

Valery sat alone inside the dark cabin of the train and allowed the rhythmic humming of its metal hull to soothe her mind. Right now, it passed through District 7, which meant she was finally getting closer to her final destination — a simple and likely brief meeting with the DireX board she had arranged after the latest Senate vote. She doubted that it would have any real impact on the planet’s future, but she hoped that she could spark something for those who had been so involved in Denon’s future already.

For a long time, after a series of terrible memories tied to this world, she had tried to keep herself distanced from the planet, but for some odd reason, events in the Galaxy always brought her back. Perhaps it was the Force keeping her on her toes, or maybe it was just bad luck. Either way, she found herself looking at familiar neon-lit streets again, and the tension this environment had was still so palpable.

But the longer this journey continued, the more she started to feel a weird aura of discomfort in the Force. Last night, her daughter Vera had asked her to stay home, but this wasn’t a meeting she could afford to miss. Still, it made her wonder if the young visionary had seen something in her dreams again. A vision of the future that should have alarmed her.

Valery would have her answer very soon.

A deafening explosion caused the entire train to suddenly tremble, to an extent that briefly made her believe it would be completely torn apart. Bright, colorful lights flashed by through shattered windows, and all she could do was brace herself for what felt like could be the end. Images of Vera flashed through her mind, joined quickly by memories of Aldric Laurent, who was likely on his way home from work, expecting her to join him in the evening.

Would she ever see them again?

Her vision soon stabilized alongside the train, which hadn’t derailed and blown itself up but would never move again. Valery stumbled up to her feet and noticed several cuts along her arm from shards of glass that had been flung around. Minor injuries, all things considered, but she feared that this wasn’t the end. Whoever had set off those explosives would surely be around to watch the spectacle and ensure their mission was a success.

With the hilt of her lightsaber already settling into her hand, she stood ready to meet them

Daiya hated the waiting most of all.

Her legs dangled off the side of the building, one of the few with a good vantage point of the train's route. Eyes peeled, the teen watched where the train was set to emerge, squinting to see it in the dim lighting of the Twilight Belt before dawn. The district was already long since awake and bustling in the mid-morning hours of the new day, even though sunrise wouldn't arrive for a few more minutes. The teen could feel her datapad pulsing with live at the constant ping of notifications, alerts, and reminders. The mental lure of its company was strong, and even Daiya's fingers had betrayed her, itching for the chance to draw the scene in front of her. To do something, anything more to pass the time than sitting on a skyscraper roof, suited legs kicking and eyes fixed on the dark spot where she knew it would be.

Light arrived late for the impatient young shadowrunner, but it was nothing short of a-mazing!

The bloom of the explosion made her start, gripping the sides of the roof ledge for balance. Her muscles tensed with giddiness, paralyzed in the height of the moment as her vision bloomed with a brilliant, magnificent light. Daiya grinned below dazzled eyes that refused to turn away, their reflection already dimming as she drank in the scene. Then, at last, her body let the teen react. She shaded her eyes against the gleam of the peeking sunlight, watching the district slowly flood with dimmer, though no less revealing light, illuminating the scene of the train bombing.

"Chit! It was still there. Daiya felt her heart sink at the discovery, a bitterness growing on her tongue. There was no way, the plan had been perfect. An empty train rushing through Seven Corners wasn't a rare occurrence, but lined up with the stolen data from the Corpos made it the rarest of opportunities. Hands clenched and her jaw tightened at the upset, there was no way Darkwire was going to miss this opportunity. Not if she had anything to do with it.

Daiya wasn't about to watch Darkwire get ignored again.

"Hex? Hex, you there?" Daiya put a hand to her ear, straining for an answer. It wasn't necessary with her comm's design, but the teen still pressed hard. She couldn't see or hear any sign of the friend who had insisted on being too close to the bomb. Squinting at the scene below, it was several moments before the teen could finally relax. She covered quickly with her best friend nearby, "No, no, it's good."

The young shadowrunner grinned at Brie under her helmet's mask, that offered only relieved eyes glimmering again from the fireworks she had promised her best friend. "I see the blue braid, she's fine." She pointed first at the spotted Hex with her left hand, at the train after that. "That I'm not sure about. It was supposed to be more firework-y, y'know?"

Darkfire had planned the complete obliteration of the train, so what went wrong?

Daiya shook her head, standing up from her rooftop perch. Ivory would know, but the Rebel wasn't here today, the young shadowrunner had insisted it was too dangerous for their small sect of shadowrunners to stick together. She didn't want to consider the possibility of capture, but Daiya knew better than to assume it wasn't real. Being together to share a victory toast was the fastest way to get Darkfire noticed, staying separate was the smarter move. Her limbs itched to get some answers, and she turned back at Brie.

"I need to get down there," her voice came short and tight, brushing off nothing from her armor's sleeves. Another precaution she had taken today. Daiya was starting to hate being right about her predictions, she couldn't even blame on a Vision this time. "I know I said the train was empty, buuuuuuuuuuut...yeah, it wasn't. Gotta finish the fething job."

She didn't wait to see what Brie would have to say about that. Her best friend was the nicest of their trio, and Daiya still wasn't sure the older teen had it in her to actually hurt someone. Especially a delegate from the Alliance Senate. Daiya cursed herself for making a third prediction that day, "Get scarce, don't be here when the Seccers show. I'll stay in touch, comms, 'Net or tat."

Daiya tapped her ear before donning the helmet, letting Brie see her grinning face before it disappeared beneath the masked lower-half. Her HUD appeared over the visor, letting the young shadowrunner pinpoint the locations she would need. It knew almost immediately when she pointed her right arm out, highlighting spots that her liquid cable launcher would adhere and hold her. The young shadowrunner drew in a sharp breath, then activated the first line, jumping off the edge of the roof to plunge into the void between buildings.

Air flew past her ears, muffled through the young shadowrunner's suit. Her stomach flipped from the brief weightlessness, but adrenaline pumping through her fast-beating heart quickly purged the sensation. Daiya giggled and whooped to herself. This wasn't better than riding a dirigopus from the Abyss, but it was pretty close. Daiya felt her arm jerk as she grabbed the closest structure to her landing point, detaching the cabling to free herself. She examined the distance left with her HUD, shaking out her arm while contemplating at least two more maneuvers.

It took three more to close the distance, landing her on top of the surviving train car. It hovered on the projected laser-lines, not even tipped or leaning, and Daiya frowned beneath her helmet. Hex was not going to be happy about the results, nor was this going to be as easy of a win for Darkwire. Daiya was already annoyed herself, rubbing her sore shoulder as she searched for a way inside. Getting inside to finish the job was her priority now, to keep Darkwire from being as ineffective as the Corpos tried to make them out as.

After this, she was sure that Darkwire would finally be taken seriously.

A headache was coming on as Daiya dropped down the side of the train car, she could feel the pulsing throb behind her eyes already. Not now! The young shadowrunner shook her head, willing it away as she connected her slicing glove to the door panel.

Daiya pulled out her blaster before opening the door. This had to be quick. Get in, shoot, get out. Before the Corpos showed up, if she was lucky. Her head throbbed again, and she put gloved fingers to her helmet, not able to make the same soothing contact with her forehead as usual.

The door hissed open, and Daiya swung inside, blaster at the ready. Dressed in purple, the sole occupant didn't look like any Alliance official the teen had ever seen. In any other circumstances, she might have admired the woman's taste in color. Her eyes caught sight of a glimmer of an unusual weapon in the delegate's hand, and she stopped short.

Daiya was facing down a Jedi.

She had to make a choice, and fast! Lowering her blaster wasn't easy, not with the sharp pain threatening the space between her eyes, but Daiya put it down by her side. Her suit could withstand blasters easily enough, but not a laser sword. Her heart pulsed as the young shadowrunner gambled big on the outcome of the whole mission.

This had been an easier choice on Belazura.

"You survived! Thank the stars you survived!" Daiya held out her hand to the woman, biting her lip behind the helmet's mask. The teen put all she had into the story, wishing it was true with every part of her being. "C'mon. I know a safe place, but we gotta be quick. If CorpSec finds you alive, they'll try to assassinate you again!"

District Commander
The morning had begun like any other.

He’d arrived early, settling into his office an hour before his Staff began to stream through the Turbolift doors. Cup of steaming caff (with four sugars & a splash of creme) in hand, he checked his accounts. The building was quiet, so early in the morning… which was how he preferred it. Commander Zur always arrived early & said little to anyone until he was comfortably settled into his office. Nobody bothered him before-hand. Nobody asked questions, or made promises they wouldn’t keep.

At 0800 every morning, his office door would be open. That was the signal that he was ready for the briefing of the day. To knock beforehand would only invite his ire.

At 0830, he received his morning briefing from the Chief of Staff for District 7.

At 0900, he placed a holo-call to the Office of the Planetary Commissioner; speaking with his Superior only briefly. The only notable occurrence for the day was the expected arrival of a Representative from the Senate, who would be arriving in only a few hours by Maglev Train. He needn’t worry about arranging an escort, it had been explained… she was only passing through his District on the way to District 1, but he’d been informed just the same.

At 1000, he took a walk through the 24’th floor; stalking the cubicles and directing a hardened stare at anyone who wasn’t hard at work.

At 1030, he’d settled back into his office with a fresh cup of caff & a holopad to review the patrol reports from the night before. There’d been an officer-involved shooting outside of a cafe near Holman Corporate Law Group’s main office - suspect deceased - and a number of traffic infractions noted; one ending in an arrest & confiscation of property. All-in-all, business as usual, he thought.

Then, at 1050, his phone rang.

And the illusion of Order was shattered.

Emergency Order 27-Grek:
"Under this directive, which may be activated during extraordinary civil unrest or a district-wide emergency by the District Commander, the following restrictions may be placed on district-wide infrastructure, residents, or personnel; up to and including:
1. Suspension of Transit and Traffic Systems, Public or Private,
2. Curfew and/or limited movement on public walkways,
3. Mandatory stop, search, and detainment of any district occupant,
4. Provisional activation of Corporate Emergency Management Teams,
5. Suspension and/or preview of HoloNet and media signals not approved by the Office of Public Outreach.
Per Addendum 27-G-2, TOS Orders must be approved by the Planetary Commissioner.

majfiZZ.png

11:01 AM

“Yes, sir, that’s correct. Effective immediately, I am initiating 27-Grek for District 7.”

“No, sir. Not at this time. If that becomes necessary, I-”

“...Yes. Yes, I understand.”

“Yes, sir.”

“No, sir. That won’t be necessar-”

“...Yes sir. I understand.”

Hargo ended the call, and clenched his fist so hard his beige skin turned white.

Outside of the CorpSec AV, the city flew past in a blur. He’d barely had time to grab his coat, using it to conceal the powerful hand-blaster tucked beneath his left armpit. The look of fury in the Zabrak’s eyes would have made a Rancor flee in whimpering fear.

After only a few moments’ pause, Hargo triggered another call - this time, to District 7’s Assistant District Commisioner; a Captain by the name of Zale Triesh. The two had never gotten along, but their dislike for each-other would have to be set aside for the good of the Company. Without Zale’s help, Zur wouldn’t live to see another morning.

He didn’t bother with pleasantries. The moment the call connected, Zur was already giving orders:

“The Planetary Commissioner has approved my request for Emergency Order 27-Grek. You are to deploy all available units, immediately. I am already en-route to the site. I want Emergency Response Teams on-site in fifteen minutes, Triesh. We are initiating a full-scale, District-wide Lockdown; I want checkpoints on every street corner, a curfew beginning at nightfall, all Mass-Transit immediately immobilized, and round-the-clock patrols. Call Silver Shield Group Silver Shield Group ; I don’t care how you get their help - we have to find that woman!”

Hargo paused. The voice on the other end of the line spoke.

“No. At this time, the Commissioner has not approved TOS. Deal with any resistance harshly, but civilian casualties are to be minimized. Do you understand?”

“Good.”

Then, he hung up without another word.

Another few moments’ pause as Zur looked out through the viewport…

Then, he had an idea.

The next call he placed did not have any name attached to it. There was no voice at the other end of the line greeting him. No salutation. No requests.

The Zabrak spoke. A shallow shiver of fear (balanced by the cold chill of desperation) ran down the length of his spine. He knew, by making this call, that he was possibly committing a War Crime… but circumstances demanded a heavy hand.

“Get me Gellenbright.”

A pair of legs dangled from a high building in the middle of Denon, ones which belonged to the shadow fox who was taking a much needed break after busting a high profile drug deal from the underworld. On his lap rested a hot burger, while his right hand held a datapad that was hacked into the local law enforcement comms and reports throughout the area. As he took another bite from the tasty burger, he was thinking about taking Daiya out for a date night to the cinema. It would be far better than staying at home and watching it there.

Cartri grinned at one of the funnier reports and bit into his food again, but suddenly an explosion erupted from the train and made the ginger jump. in turn, his burger flew out of his hand to the streets below as Cartri jumped to his feet "What on Denon!" swiftly placing the datapad back into his backpack he began to swiftly rush down to the wreckage with speed. Using the rooftops to scramble closer he got close enough to study what it was carrying.

Thankfully, the train wasn't holding any passengers, or so he thought. Just when he was about to loosen up a strange feeling fell over his body. He could feel the presence of someone he hadn't seen for a long time, a woman he respected ever since he met her that day. However, even though he could sense that person close by he had to make sure his feelings were true. Carefully, he walked along the rooftop to see a lone carriage which seemed to be one of the few standing. If anyone was to survive the crash, it would have to be in there.

Taking a deep breath, Cartri took a few steps back and jumped from the roof down on top of the carriage with a clang. Slowly, he lowered himself down to the door and hesitantly prepared to barge it open with his shoulder. Without warning the door suddenly barged open to reveal Cartri in his gear, staring right at the pair before him with surprised eyes

"Valery?" he said out loud, his eyes snapping to Daiya who had managed to get to the scene before him "What happened here?" he asked coldly to his girlfriend while he moved over to check on the Jedi "Either way, we need to get you out of here just in case this was foul play..." Cartri said as his eyes looked down to the hand on her saber.

"We're not here to hurt you Jedi. After all, I do owe you one after you help me out all that time ago" Cartri grinned lightly, pointing to his hair "Gingers never forget a good deed"

Escalation. It had been expected, but not in this format; no matter, it would lend legitimacy to a brutal response.

Sar had been en route in a CorpSec airspeeder when he got a call from some old associates. "Yeah, I know the routines. --- Not with this paycheck I won't. --- I know how the Redhands operate. --- Please, I prefer staying alive."

There was a long silence as a number was stated - and then Sar chuckled. "High priority? Checks out. I'm in. Heading in ASAP, get the team prepped while I gear up." Sirens blaring, the airspeeder did an illegal u-turn in the middle of the skylane, then shot across the sky towards Gellenbright's little staging ground.

It seemed his vacation was over.

After a short briefing, he was routed to another call.

"Commander," That was all the greeting Zur would get following the transition from the handler to the fixer. "I'm heading the team. Which little band of terrorists do you need handled?" Dead and buried, in other words. No one asked for that part of Gellenbright unless the job that needed doing was dirty, dangerous, and necessary.

He was paid well enough not to ask - or even think - pointless questions.

Earlier that day....

Hex hung upside down from a girder, far above the denon lower levels listening to music in her headphones as she fiddled with wires leading into an oversized power transformer, her Dancer board was nearby, with a second half finished board attached behind it with all her tools and supplied on it. She had borrowed the uniform of a track engineer, but she needn't have bothered, seeing nobody around the whole time she worked.

Hex had cut a hole into the bottom of the transformer and packed it with high explosives, these were linked to further charges down the track. When the train arrived, she would detonate it and the resulting blast would obliterate the train, its lead carriage and send the last carriages falling in to the darkness of the low levels as the section of track collapsed. This was the plan, complete destruction of this train which should hopefully be empty.

'...This feels a lot like a disposable asset job...'
"For feths sake! We've been over this, Daiya cares about us, she won't screw me over."
'...you believe that! We'll see, when this goes badly, you are done...'
"We will see! And screw you"
she answered defiantly before turning her music up further.

Just thinking about the upcoming blast was enough to put a grin on Hex's face and she felt a little tingle of anticipation across the skin. Soon it would be time, this would be the biggest explosion she had created since she came to Denon. "Look out belooooow!" she laughed as she dropped the last screw that was to replace the panel she had been tampering with. It wasn't essential, the other three screws were plenty to hold it for an afternoon.

That evening...

"Tickity bop, tickity bop, tickity bop!" Hex said to herself excitedly as she stood waiting for her moment to shine. The train would be here soon and she had been pacing like a child waiting for her nameday. Hex had chosen a vantage point close to the train, she had convinced everyone else it was due to the detonation cord length, but she knew deep down that the real reason is that she wanted to feel the warmth of the sun on her face, but the Denon clouds did not allow that, this would have to do. The horn in the distance heralded the final countdown.

...5...

She placed her hands on the top of the T shaped plunger that would fire the charges.

...4...

She braced her legs either side, wriggling her hips and to limber up.

...3...

She made a mental prayer of thanks to the force for what she was about to receive.

...2...

She smiled, licked her finger and felt the wind direction, pretending it mattered.

...1...

Hex took one last breath of the cool night air before depressing the plunger
"BOOM BABY!"

She cackled as her face was bathed in the warm glow from the fireball and she smiled wildly at her handiwork feeling the heat on her shin. There was a childlike sparkle in her eyes...

But it was short lived, her eyes began to widen and the smile fell from her face as she realised her charges had not done what she had envisaged. Sure, there was a fireball that would be talked about in district 7 for years, but the train remained, defiant and resolute, standing even while burning debris rained down around it. "Chit" she said to herself without emotion as the gravity of her failing hit her.

She needed to get in and finished the job <<Daiya, I'm so sorry, give me a minute and I will fix this>> There was just crackling on the other line. She was worried about that, the copper coils inside the transformer might had ionised any nearby electronics when they went up. At least it might buy her some time to fix her mistake. She had party poppers and confetti with her she could do this. Hex grabbed dancer and stepped off into the void, dropping a dozen metres before pulling up and speeding quickly toward the train. She was on the other side of the carriages from the direction Daiya would come, but knew she was about somewhere. Hex was headed for the engine, enough explosives and she could trigger a reactor breach and have the train blast itself to kingdom come.

Ruby was wrapped in a ratty blanket on a mattress on the floor, sulking.

For a while now, she didn't really feel like doing anything. Call it depression, call it being unmotivated. She woke, smoked a cig, then went back to sleep. Mrs. Ito -- one of the owners of the restaurant that Ruby called home -- had even brought down some of their fried dishes, trying to entice Ruby to eat. But even the delicious greasy goodness didn't help revive her normally ravenous appetite for free food.

Why did she feel this way?

Well, she had important people in her life now. Family, friends... maybe-something-more-than-a-friend? The problem with Ruby was that she was a solitary creature, fiercely independent. When people reached out, she retreated. And that's what was happening now. The shadowrunner had withdrawn into her blanket hovel, not sure when she would emerge.

She'd slept through the explosion that rocked the area.

But now, her datapad was ringing with alerts. Little annoying beeps that had to stop. Ruby reached over and tossed the device out of sight; it landed in the corner, the screen cracked. With only the faint sounds of cooking coming from upstairs, Ruby started to fade again -- her eyes closed.

Ruby didn't know how long she'd been asleep... but she knew that she had a massive headache.

There were loud sounds upstairs. Shouting, which wasn't all that uncommon. But... a few sharp sounds pierced the air and made her heart stop. Shooting...

She covered quickly with her best friend nearby, "No, no, it's good."

Brie just looked and shaked her head at her incurable bestie. Why were she even surprised with Daiya's actions anymore? Fireworks, right? It had all sounded fun and entertaining, all until Dai had given her that look. Yeah, here they would go again... And right on time when there was no turning back. When they were half way there and backing out were not an option. Brie should have foreseen it. She did know that the stakes were going to be higher and the game were going to change after their latest mission against the Corpos, but not this early.

"I know I said the train was empty, buuuuuuuuuuut...yeah, it wasn't. Gotta finish the fething job."

''In other words - you lied, Daiya? I seriously don't know why I stick around you anymore!'' Brie uttered with a sigh and a shake to her head, before she prepared to follow her bestie to what destiny she led them into. Of course, it was all just a saying that she didn't really mean, and she hoped that Daiya would get that. Brie looked at the devestation caused to the train by the explosion, hoping that it didn't hurt anyone innocent. She followed Daiya down to the trainwreck and the remaining carts, in which they would probably find their target. Darkwire fought for the people of Denon, and it was no better cause than that for the former scrapper girl. Although, Daiya could be better at telling about her things right out.

Brie looked between Daiya and the suddenly appeared Cartri.

"We're not here to hurt you Jedi. After all, I do owe you one after you help me out all that time ago" Cartri grinned lightly, pointing to his hair "Gingers never forget a good deed"

Okay, why would something start to amuse her right now? If Cartri pulled a trick on the supposed Jedi, so be it. If he actually knew their target, well that were Daiya's problem, the meanace who brought them here in the first place.

''Well, lucky we were nearby! Welcome to Denon, mrs Valery.'' Brie said and spun onto what Cartri said.

"What a load of shit."

Dominique's golden rings had turned toward a monitor as Darkwire broadcast enough call for 'freedom.' Calling it 'another' might be underselling it, but same pitch, different day. It was the message that had the good Senator cross. Stand for Denon? What did those cyberpunks and shadowrunners know about Denon? Everyone had an Anarchist's wet dream until they actually got it -- then they turned into your typical tin-pot dictator as the realities of managing a planet full of Anarchists kicked in.

The company Vexx kept at the dining table smiled politely in response. They expected it. The Senator represented the planet, after all, and notably the DireX's interests. That was also half the reason Dominique had been so colorful in her analysis of the message. One must maintain appearances.

These events, however, brought with them their own concerns. The sort that were swiftly realized when the DireX organized a task force to 'address the issue' -- specifically, to seek and destroy the bothersome pests behind the broadcast. Damn rebels with a cause never understood that overplaying your hand was detrimental to that cause -- not in service of it. Some would roll out the old saying, 'the nail that sticks out gets hammered.' The DireX knew all about hammering; it had been the reason Vexx had been so kind and beseeched the Senate to not fully embrace Braxton Holst Braxton Holst 's proposal. An investigation could be controlled, an invasion would only invite bloodshed.

Fortunately, being the Senator, Dominique was able to step inside the security perimeter of this latest pursuit of... law and order. Dressed in a white suit with pants, the lilac haired woman stood off to the side and slowly meandered through the operation center so as to remain unremarkable. People were busy and didn't want to 'waste time' discussing particulars with a 'mere' politician. Which was fine. Vexx understood most of what she could glean from screens over peoples' shoulders without their editorial input.

It wouldn't be long before a certain meeting would occur, however. Valery Noble, vanguard of the Senate's vaulted concern over Denon's well-being, would arrive. If the Jedi thought to try any of their Force tricks, however, they'd find Dominique wasn't so easily led by the nose. If anything, the woman's reputation had been not be exaggerated or it was she that would find herself trying to keep up with the amount of legalese thrown in her path.

Then something unforeseen happened. Something most would concern terrible. Something Darkwire brought thought glorious. Something... Dominique found delightful. Golden eyes sparkled behind her decorative glasses as her lips remain neutral in the face of news that the training conveying Valery Noble had been derailed -- possibly destroyed. Darkwire wanted to send a message that the Alliance had skin in the game, but Vexx saw this as a way to send an entirely different message -- that they should support the DireX in rounding up these terrorists rather than hinder them.

A clamor of activity filled the operation center as the focus turned from a crackdown on Darkwire to the potential assassination of a Jedi dignitary from the Alliance. A frenzy put to order by a few sharp words by the presiding officer, of course. Vexx listened as the man relayed what had been passed on to them from up high.

"...District 7 is initiating 27-Grek."

Lockdown. Unsurprising. It seemed unlikely the DireX's task force would sit idly by, however. Nor did Dominique trust the local authorities to have the full resources needed for such an ambitious, if warranted, plan. Darkwire was an elusive bunch -- their ability to escape and survive was what made them the perfect foil for the DireX to wrestle with. A lightning rod to draw out the discontent into one group that could be monitored, manipulated, and if the situation called for it -- exterminated.

Dominique lingered as the situation unfolded and actions were drawn up and ordered. For the very reason she was there in the first place, it seemed like the place to be to get the right information at the right time. Today was already off-script, but Vexx wasn't unaccustomed to drafting new scripts on the fly.

Objective 3:
Listen, learn, assess.

The Underground was there. Peyton had been in touch with the likes of Jared Starchaser and Aeshi Tillian Aeshi Tillian . But there was still more to do even within the Alliance's own ranks. She was part of a different Alliance, but this one? Well, it would suffice. But there were still corrections that needed to be made. Lucky for her, and her benefactors, they had backing of the old guard, and the new. Plus the Underground approach. It was what brought her to Denon. She originally came looking for the Darkwire in order to put a stop to them.

The world had its problems. And she should have maybe headed back for the Core and to the Alliance brass, but it wasn't her Alliance. She was more Underground, but it still had to lean in some direction, over another. Maybe the pressure was from the Alliance, or this leadership, this Senate had more time on their hands to defend a corporation over the people.

In the world she cut her teeth in? That wouldn't fly. But Masters Starchaser, Raaf, Voidstalker, and Rhen all voted against a formal Senate to allow planets to self govern, and support the motion against the Sith. Words on the wire were that there was something big going on. If it was against Alliance forces, and Jedi? That'd be an issue. These kids could take down local corporate marshalls, but armed military? She had her doubts. She had her doubts with the fight of the Underground against the Sith in the past, though.

And was surprised, pleasantly.

A message out to Starchaser that this wasn't his fight. It should keep him and many of the Jedi he held sway with away from Denon. She'd seen enough governments toppled and brought in line to know what was going to happen. Did she spend too much time among the Darkwire kids, maybe. But it was still their planet.

District 7 was her destination. Her goal? To assess and adapt. She had her Underground contacts, and a few were around, she had called them in to assist here, to help teach, to help train, and to be a thorn for the corpos. The well trained blonde had suited up, she wasn't about to run out into this world without something to keep her moisture levels up, especially if there was to be fighting. Part of being an infochant was having an ear to the ground…

The blonde prepped her stun batons, her side arm, and her rifle. As she stepped to the airspeeder, she had her Underground partner here to help fly. They were on the way to the Seven Corners. There was a train passing by and she intended to be there to watch the outcome. She had heard word of who was there.

Waving off Cuan and tapping her ear, to let him know to watch the soundwaves, she stepped to get a view. Unhooking her rifle's macrobinos, she set herself up int eh right location. Call it serendipity, or just damned good intelligence. She didn't time it well enough and the flash of the explosion flooded her senses. Shaking her head, it took a few moments for her eyes to focus. As she looked over the train, thermals were all over the area, but the blonde girl, that was one she knew.

What was going on. The other she was speaking at, a Jedi. That was… a development.

<<Steele, Order 27-Grek is issued>>

Not good. Going to make getting around a bit harder. She had her ways. A few different dark stones from the equipment monger that was Jennifer Blanchard Jennifer Blanchard , toss them, and it all went dark, great for a getaway.

That was when it came back to her. Did Daiya say the Corpos were going after the Jedi? It didn't not add up, but there was… a spin to it. What she knew was she needed off the rooftop.

Cassus overlooked the scene from a landing pad with macrobinoculars, where his inherited ship sat inconspicuously among other ships, junked and grounded for years. The Junk'd Up Ship fit in as though it belonged because, aside from being flight-worthy, it probably did. Its residence here was no accident, especially tonight.

The boy Bounty Hunter and veteran Shadowrunner colored himself surprised when he was roped into the plan, but it garnered a smile from him. The Radio Star mission had only been a taste, and he had left feeling somewhat unsatisfied. His appetite had not been satiated by the limited violence that night offered. As flowers blossomed on the train of the alliance dignitary, he knew he would have his fill.

Something wasn't quite right, however.

It failed?

Soured by this development, Cassus ran and disappeared into his ship.

majfiZZ.png

Captain Lonnie was being flooded by notifications and bombarded by inquiring officers. Her lieutenant, Kyle, was doing everything he could to assist in carrying out what orders she had to give out. Diviak Manfloon was off-planet, so all authority for his private CorpSec attachment defaulted to her, and her company defaulted to the Capital Security District Commander Hargo Zur Hargo Zur .

"The first gunship has left the pad, Captain. We'll have eyes on target in approximately two minutes. Bounties are about to be posted. We'll draw up our favorite contacts for the Bounty Hunters Guild and deputize them as soon as possible."

Lonnie hissed favorably and began to arm herself in riot gear...

0elKl2q.png

Cassus exited his ship with a huge massive shape on his shoulder. With an unnatural ease, he aimed the device at the burning train. It was his first time using it, but it was about time. Just as he was about to "finish the job" to blow up the train, Cassus saw a familiar shape materialize over a building.

"That's more like it," Shifting his stance, he squeezed the trigger and let loose "The Mother Relentless."

Fire streaked across the sky as the CorpSec gunship relayed the image of the burning wreckage of the train to CorpSec HQ as Darkwire began to surround Valery Noble Valery Noble . How that footage would be interpreted was anyone's guess, but the crewmen aboard would never even get a chance to think about it. A second explosion would rock the skies of Denon this morning as the black and red vehicle hurtled in a ball of fire right toward the group of stragglers on the crippled train...

"I dunno, Elle-Four..."

The Squib was navigating the traffic in Seven Corners. Not an easy task with a land speeder this size. Some of the streets could get quite narrow, even with traffic flowing in three dimensions.

"She's a human!" Ree lamented, hands leaving the wheel as he threw them out with exasperation. Then sank down in the driver's seat as he settled back into the stop-and-go flow of brake lights.

Was she human? "Or, at least, I think she's human," the Squib amended. No, he wasn't sure. "She has some very human-like qualities."

Now he was starting to doubt himself. "To start, she's tall," Ree mused, thinking aloud as he posed it as a rhetorical. Of course, from the Squib perspective, who wasn't tall? "And she doesn't have fur," he added. But, not, that wasn't entirely accurate either. "Well, I mean, hair but not like... You know what I'm saying," the Squib stammered, glancing over at his companion for reassurance.

"So why not just ask her on a date?" the box-like droid beside him inquired.

"Are you nuts!?" Ree exclaimed, sitting up in his seat. There was a Corporate Security security check up ahead, flagging speeders down further ahead. As traffic slowed to a stand-still, the Squib leaned forward across the wheel as he sighed, "I'm a Squib! There's no way she's interested."

Two security officers motioned for the garbage hauler to pull over.

"...and besides, I have no idea how humans draft up those kind of contracts," the Squib added, as he turned into the inspection area.

"I'm not sure it works like that," the droid noted from beside him.

As one of the Corporate officers approached, the Squib rolled the driver's side window down. "License and registration," the security officer ordered.

A few feet away, his partner had a blaster carbine casually leveled toward the speeder.

Opening the glove box, the Squib came up with the requested identicards. As the Corporate officer accepted them, he gave a nod to indicate the droid. "That your loader droid?"

"Salvaged," the Squib supplied, quite proudly in fact. "Rebuilt him myself!"

The officer was silent as he ran the registration. "This seems in order," the officer supplied, passing the identicards back to the Squib. "You have the required permits?"

Ah, there goes the other shoe.

"Of course, officer," Ree answered, reaching into the front pocket on the coveralls he wore. He drew a slender credit chip, when he then passed over. Standard Corporate bribe.

The security officer accepted the slip, but then added, "This are is restricted. I'm afraid you'll need additional authorization."

In other words, the standard bribe wasn't going to be enough. "You'll find Squib Reclamation Number One with DireX for customer loyalty. Yes, siree!" With that, the Squib produced a second credit chip.

"All right. This checks out," the officer remarked, before motioning for the Squib to exit the vehicle. "We'll have to inspect the cargo area."

Unbuckling his safety belt, the Squib exited to one side while the droid exited from the passenger side. "I just came from Diagnoga Alley," the Squib warned in a half-jest tone. "I hope you're prepared for what's back there."

Both officers circled toward the back of the garbage hauler, one crawling up onto the back while the other kept a casual bead on the Squib.

"This chit is disgusting."

The Squib just gave a shrug. He had warned them. Plus, it was a garbage hauler.

"Is that a couch?"

"Yeah, someone threw it out on Level Thirteen," the Squib answered.

"What's this?"

The Squib's ears went up, then seemed to fold back nervously. "What's what?"

As the Corporate officer straightened up, he was holding a shield generator in his hands. "This is military grade hardware," the officer looked at the Squib and demanded, "Where did you get this?"

"Same place I got the weapons that are under the couch," Ree answered, quite honestly. It prompted both officers to train their weapons on him.

"Also, I may have neglected to mention that's not a loader droid."

Got to give credit to whoever designed the old HK series. Those droids were built to last.

Just not the best quality metal in their exoskeletons. Which was why when Ree had rebuilt this one, he'd used the empty housing of a loader droid.

As both officers were quickly and surprisingly quietly dispatched by the droid, Squib just watched as the bodies were loaded into the back. As the pair returned to the driver's compartment, Ree noted, "I dunno what Darkwire's got planned, but this blocks gonna get hot any time now."

"So you still thinking about asking that girl out?" the droid asked, as Ree started the landspeeder back up and started to pull back into traffic.

The way that the question had been phrased made the Squib give a quiet laugh. He was pretty sure if he called Hex Hex a 'girl' that he'd probably get shot.

"I kinda wish I could stop thinking about it, to be honest..."

The young Serennian had been reclining in a comfortable seat when his shuttle suddenly lurched upwards.

"What on-" As if in response, a holographic representation of AMCO appeared in front of him. "A train was attacked seventeen clicks from the Wall. Your shuttle will return to orbit and a fighter escort launched to ensure your safety."

"... I see. A train? Just cargo, I hope?"

---

Agitated corporate officials sat around a circular table as incident reports trickled in. An 'empty' train - but one that had carried an Alliance representative. Status unknown. It was an unmitigated disaster, but fortunately not one that directly concerned their corporate holdings. Still, it did not speak well for the stability the corporation relied on.

Then, a new prompt. CorpSec gunship downed, seventeen clicks.

"Fuck me," went the reflexive response of the local Head of Security, his obviously artificial eyes whirring as they turned to the tactical displays. "Unknown shooter? With a high-priority Exec inbound? That won't do."

"Sir, we don't have people on si-"

"We do have defence capabilities. AMCO, take the shooter out. Concussion missile. Oh, and send another couple drones to the escort. Wouldn't want his majesty feeling unsafe." His eyeroll and general demenour left no room for debate.

At the top of the Wall, a panel slid open and a sleek missile lurched out to the disbelief of spectators.

"They're not going to let us in, are they? They're gonna karking fight tooth and nail to keep us from landing. This is exactly why I hate politics!"

It was Valery who'd gone missing. Presumed dead. Valery. The Sword of the Jedi. And yet, they wouldn't let any other Jedi on world? Iris practically hissed at the coms as she heard the same play back. District on lockdown. No outsiders allowed in. Denon was an Alliance world and the Sword of the karking Jedi went missing and they thought they could just lock down the Jedi from investigating?

So far, yes. She threw down the mic, practically growling in anger. She was alive. Iris could feel that much. But was she hurt? Was she safe? Those didn't have answers. Worse, who knew who actually hurt her. The Corpos, to blame it on Darkwire as they had before? Darkwire, to force the Alliance to finally pay attention? People who hated the Jedi? Criminals looking for a boost in their reputation?

There were so many damn options. And they weren't going to figure out chit flying in space. She wiped at her face, leaning back in her seat. Then glanced to Alicio Organa Alicio Organa .

"What do we do?"

"Please, my daughter works in Sakedo tower! I need to pick her up!" A concerned sapient implored the growing line of CorpSec personnel at the border of District 7.

"District 7 is under Emergency Order 27-Grek. It's locked down, ma'am. No one goes in or out-" Another explosion sounds out from behind the officer, "It's time for you to go." He said, raising his Sonic Carbine to reinforce his decree.

All around District 7, CorpSec was mobilizing en masse. Equipment sitting in vaults waiting for their next qualification training exercise was now being fully deployed. The entire complement of Corporate Security was now pressing down on the riotous district and all its neighbors, well-intentioned or nefarious. No bribes would be taken today (except for the bold), and no expenses would be spared to protect corporate interests.

This was why many Bounty Hunters, Mercenaries, or Odd-Jobbing Contractors were assembling at Captain Lonnie's Barracks. She hissed and grunted with emphatic hand gestures as her Lieutenant Kyle translated for her.

"Captain Lonnie appreciates your swift response to this emergency. While CorpSec HQ is allocating funds for a District Wide Open Bounty, she is willing to offer a premium contract for immediate deputization into her CorpSec company to mobilize immediately. You'll be paid more than what the Bounties will be offering, and if your performance is good enough, you may be offered a long-term contract. Any takers?"

DENON - SAKEDO TOWER WARD
COMMERCE GUILD MEGAPLEX - SECTION SCEPTER

Shitfuck was a new word for Senior Coordination Officer Farkas. He had invented it independently just a moment ago - being unable to decide which of the two to use - after terminating a holocall with the executive committee. He repeated it frequently under his breath as his perfectly polished boots squeaked along perfectly polished floors. Farkas moved briskly and rigidly. He might have sprinted if corporate decorum allowed him to.
This was all to say that by the time he got back to Denon Operations Command Suite, he had a lot of pent up energy. He waited impatiently for the heavy doors to slide open and didn't wait for them to shut before he started yelling, "Attention! Attention! Attention already! Focus, people!"
The Command Suite reminded Farkas of a church, only instead of pews there were neat rows of blocky communication stations. And instead of an altar there was a very impressive holo-table made for showing strategic projections. And instead of a priest there was a huge, blocky supercomputer built to nest three separate tactically configured artificial intelligence constructs.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves. Farks started down the path between the pews, a spattering of Junior Coordination Officers snapping their heads up to watch him go. One of them started to take off their data goggles, but Farkas snapped at him - "Put those back on! Melinda!" He snapped his fingers at a mousy zabrak, whose seat happened to be closest to his destination, "Power up the TACPRO!"
She scampered out of her seat, vanishing behind the supercomputer. If you were close enough you could hear the switches being thrown, the gentle hum of electricity, the spinning of fans. It gradually dawned on most of the Junior Coordination Officers that something monumental was taking place here on Denon. TACPRO was for large operations. Denon Command Suite hadn't turned theirs on since its inception.

That's why everyone could sort of, kind of tell that tonight would be "bad."

"Roy! Get 8th Company to 80% mobilization - speeders in the air."
A neimoidian leaned back in his chair to get a better look at Farkas as he stalked up the short stairs to the altar. "We got operation specifications? What do I tell 'em?"
"Exec Committee's churning it now," Farkas snapped back, "Just get it done!"
Roy grimaced and stuck his face back in front of the screen, tap-tapping away at the console. This wasn't how it was supposed to be. Nobody Farkas stopped now in front of the holo-table, just as a beautiful projection of Seven Corners sprang to life. Dizzyingly detailed. R&D had spent months mapping it out. Even the lower levels, but they didn't get too low. Diminishing returns.
Farkas swallowed hard and said the magic word one more time, just for good measure.
"Shitfuck."

/// MANUAL COMMAND DISABLED - ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL PER SECURITY DIRECTIVE AUREK ///

The Head of Security had just enough time to blink once before all the buttons, interfaces, and miscellaneous doodahs either vanished or had their lighting muted. Only the displays remained - he had no more influence on the ongoing situation than did the man on the street. It took him a moment more to process it. "What the fuck just happened?"

NOTIFICATION: SURFACE-TO-SURFACE MUNITIONS DISARMED; RE-ROUTED FOR RECOVERY.
NOTIFICATION: AWAITING CONFIRMATION.

In a nearby CorpSec control centre, a communicator would begin ringing insistently. If it was not answered promptly, the operators would suddenly find their inbound communications clogged by millions of requests from one source.

"Attention. Inflexible automated systems are preventing the elimination of a threat to local air traffic associated with the ongoing incident, see Incident Report 4123-DG-12. Requesting immediate exemption from GREK-27 response." There was a pause that could be construed as menacing. "Please be advised that any attacks upon Inbound Flight Besh-Seven will trigger the saturation bombardment of the offending parties, per Security Directive Zerek."

In the depths of the Wall, the shield generators began to spool up without any manual input. They would be ready to activate in an instant if a Zerek-Eleven response was deemed necessary by the inscrutable AI.

Aboard his shuttle, Desric remained pleasantly unaware of the ongoing tensions.

Denon. He'd seen some odd folks get into a ship. He recognized one as one of the jedi he'd fought with that day on Sedri. The other one? He didn't know. Thus he had resolved to tail them, giving his ship the rfid of a bounty hunter's ship, one registered to himself: NOI. Raphael had joined the Alliance, but NOI? That slicer from Nar Shaddaa? The gunslinger? Nope. Even though the two were one and the same. Few got his real name. He didn't want to draw suspicion, and so jumped a bit after they did. To be fair, he might've been sensitive to the Force, but he wasn't a jedi or even part of the military. His actions would be his own. Though how well he was armed…

He transmitted the bounty hunter codes to the landing pad as it allowed him through. "This is NOI of Nar Shaddaa. Heard you've got a bounty on the run and this kriff sounded fun." Quickly moving through to the nearby starport, he landed and tossed the attendant some credits, non Alliance ones, as he moved through. Flight helmet on, as always when he moved, jacket, dressed to the nines as always. He gave off the air of a professional, as best he could. Temperance? Check. Clemency? Check. Absolution? Triple check. Data vambrace? Didn't even need to check that. "Hey, pal. I just need you to do one last thing for me…" The attendant looked at him questioningly. "Another ship was following me. I think they need clearance too. Can you give it to 'em?"

The man looked at him, scrutinizingly. "…more bounty hunters?" The man asked. NOI shrugged. "Then not a chance. We're under strict orders to—" A stun blast went into the man and the man went down.

"No offense, pal. Wasn't asking." Then, he grabbed the man's id card, dragged him into the small guard station, tied his hands and feet and shoved him up and underneath the desk, with several chairs to block him. Then he used the man's credentials to log onto the system, and hailed the ship of Iris and Alicio. "You are clear to dock on docking bay seven." He said, with a bit of humor to his modulated voice. "Just land fast. Not a lotta space for long windows."

"So here's the deal. Air traffic has been completely shut off. No Jedi in, no Jedi out. Chances are, no one can get in to provide us back up, and getting off world is gonna be a pain in the ass. So, we're pretty much stuck out here..."

This was what Jasper got for spending time on Denon. Stuck in the middle of a civil war. He would need to go make sure that Marissa Shoda Marissa Shoda was safe, but first things first were the claims of Valery Noble Valery Noble being dead. It was garbage. There wasn't a doubt in his mind of that.

"Right then..." Jasper began, trailing off to let his latest companion give his name.

"Master Karos Spinner," the golden feathered Rishii answered.

"Master Spinner," he shrugged. The dude was an oddball, but better that then nothing, "Master Noble is out there somewhere, potentially injured, but she definitely isn't dead. There's no way she'd go down that easily. Not the Sword of the Jedi. Darkwire has to know something about where she is. They're going around recruiting as we speak. We wait here in this apartment, join their ranks, and slip into one of their safe houses. Find our Sword, break some heads, and get the hell off this planet."

"Sounds like quite the plan, young padawan," Spinner nodded, stroking the end of his beak. "I've no real path off Denon at the moment, so I'll follow your lead. You seem the strategist type after all."

The Rishii was strangely very laid back about this entire scenario. How had he even ended up on a planet like this? He seemed so out of place.

"If you don't mind me asking, sir, how did you end up here?"

"It seems I took the wrong shuttle," the Rishii master shrugged. "I was to meet my former padawan on Denash for meditation, but it seems that my eyesight had gotten worse with age. An unfortunate mishap, really."

Oh god, Jasper thought to himself. I'm leading an old man to his death.

"O..kay, then," he nodded, trying to come off as confident as he could. "Well, all we really need to do is wait. Hopefully these Darkwire recruiters won't be long. And... hopefully they bring us to the right place."

"All shall be made aware it time," Spinner assured. "Stow your anxieties and have faith, young one."

He was definitely leading an old man to his death. Still, he was stuck with the old bird now. If they played their cards right, perhaps they could get out alive with Master Noble. That was all Jasper could ask for at the moment.

So, he waited for a knock at the door.
