- Bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse: Valery's work as a Jedi Shadow requires her to be able to infiltrate in almost any type of environment, underwater environments included. For this reason, the upgrade was installed into the weapon.
- No Dimetris-circuit: This modification ensures Cortosis will not short the lightsaber out.
- Crude Phobium emitter: An additional upgrade that paired with her crystals, allows her to cut through more resistant materials more easily.
- Cutting potential: With the Crude Phobium emitter, discharge power cell, and the crystal being a Hurrikaine crystal, its potential to get through lightsaber-resistant materials is amplified. Some materials, especially when they are thick, will still make it hard to get through, but the generally thinner plating in personal armor will generally not be an issue.
- Force-imbued: Valery has imbued the crystal with her own inner strength, allowing it to help her focus in times of need. The crystal now offers minor amplification in focus and potency of Force abilities.
- Bonded: Due to the bond between Valery and the crystals, A Dark Sider attempting to use it without bleeding the crystal would be met with heavy resistance or even the blade disengaging.
- Bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse: Due to this upgrade, Valery can use her lightsaber underwater.
- No Dimetris-circuit: This modification ensures Cortosis will not short the lightsaber out.
- Material choice: With the Songsteel hilt and the wing-like Phrik guards to protect the emitter, the lightsaber is capable of taking several hits from another lightsaber before breaking down.
- Force-nullification: While a weapon can still function with this crystal in a Force-nullified field, the Force-imbuement Valery added into the crystal later can not. So in the presence of a Void stone or Ysalamiri field, she will not benefit from the Force-imbuement. The cutting potential is not affected by Force-nullification.
- Bonded: Because the crystal only offers its special cutting and imbuement properties to Valery, an ally temporarily having to use the lightsaber would not benefit from it either. To them, it would be a very ordinary lightsaber.
- Weight Distribution: The special components and Songsteel guards around the emitter create a strange weight distribution, with most of it further away from the grip. This makes the weapons more difficult to wield.
- Directed EMP/Ion: While the lightsaber has protection against interference, directed EMP or Ion attacks have the ability to knock components such as the Bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse offline.
Valery originally created this pair of lightsabers in the days of the Old Republic, shortly after her first Lightsaber was lost on New Cov. While the pair began as fairly standard lightsabers, she has since then made numerous modifications to the weapons so they can best serve her in her duties.
Most notably, she has added various pieces of technology that allow them to better perform in the dangerous environments a Jedi Shadow might find themselves in. This began with upgrades to its ability to cut through more lightsaber-resistant materials but later expanded to the addition of a bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse for underwater operations.
Following her time in stasis and the awakening far into the future, she has only made modifications to the crystals by imbuing them with the Force. Now, the two weapons are specifically designed for the various tasks she takes on.
