Dark Force Rising | Raid on Omwat

A SECOND GREAT HYPERSPACE WAR STORY
DARK FORCE RISING

CRISIS ON OMWAT!

After failed closed-door negotiations between the FINAL DAWN and RIMWARD TRADE LEAGUE and the humiliation suffered by it's High Regent at a summit on ERIADU, the Final Dawn has since doubled down on it’s commitments in the Outer Rim, outright defying both the ERIADU AUTHORITY and the RIMWARD TRADE LEAGUE by establishing more bases and expanding their sphere of influence in the hopes of keeping both upstart factions in check and advancing it's long-term plans in the area.

Still bitter over his past humiliations and insults at the hands of these Outer Rim upstarts, HIGH REGENT MARLON SULAREN has ordered his trusted subordinate, DIRECTOR-ADMIRAL DORIAN SEVENAR to carry-out a PUNITIVE EXPIDITION within the Seswenna Sector as a show of force in order to test the resolve of the antagonistic Eriadu Authority along their southern neighbours in the Rimward Trade League and to remind them that the Final Dawn will not tolerate any further defiance.

With the Final Dawn growing in strength thanks to the recent recruitment of private military contractors and friendly marauders, Dorian Sevenar sets his sights on the isolated world of OMWAT, located within the Seswenna Sector and home to the highly intelligent Omwati species. With the intent to deprive both the Eriaduans and the Rimward Trade League of a possible asset that could be used against them and demonstrate it's Power Projection capabilities, the Final Dawn descends upon the once calm world in full-force deploying a mixture of PARAMILITARY/MERCENARY FORCES and MARAUDERS across the surface while simultaneously establishing a BLOCKADE in orbit in an effort to swiftly overrun Omwat and deprive it’s population from any outside support.

To go against the will of the FINAL DAWN is to forfeit the rights of yourself and your people, and by defying the High Regent and openly challenging his plans for the Seswenna Sector, VANDAR TARKIN has condemned the Omwati to the grim fate of indentured servitude at the hands of the Final Dawn. The Final Dawn never forgets nor does it forgives.

GLORY TO THE FINAL DAWN!

Finally, after months of preparations and build up, the Final Dawn was ready to make its move. Since he had joined Sularen in his attempts to rise to power and prominence in the Core Worlds, Sevenar had witnessed firsthand the numerous betrayals and deceptions his superior had suffered and how every single person who wronged the High Regent had gotten away with it, benefiting from such treacherous acts while Sularen and his faithful followers suffered. It was even a miracle that there still remained a core of veteran officers including himself who had remained loyal to Sularen after all the betrayals and deceptions.

And now, at last the Final Dawn was ready to exact true retribution upon the many foes who had wronged their High Regent, starting with the most recent individual who had done so, a Rogue Warlord from Eriadu, the self-proclaimed High Moff Vandar Tarkin. Tarkin had the audacity to insult the High Regent during a summit held on Eriadu, failing to restrain a guest of his who proceeded to outright threaten the life of Sularen and even allowing Kyrel Ren to outright humiliate Sularen, acts which most certainly would dissuade other Imperial Warlords in the Outer Rim from joining the Final Dawn and siding with the Empire, known enemies of the Maw instead. Sevenar recalled Tarkin's last words to Sularen before the latter’s departure as documented by Colonel Rackham. “Any further movements in my sector will be taken as acts of aggression, aggression I suggest you focus on your war." But unfortunately for Tarkin, he would soon realize the hard way that he had dragged Eriadu and ‘his’ sector into the Second Great Hyperspace War, and he along with ‘his’ people would soon come to regret having stood against the Final Dawn. The Final Dawn always remembers.

Sularen had once said that he would deal with Tarkin sooner or later, and being a man of his word, that promise would be fulfilled with the emergence of a fleet of eight warships from hyperspace in orbit of the Outer Rim world of Omwat, located within the Seswenna Sector claimed by Tarkin, warships which made up Group Aurek of the Tempest Squadron, the personal fleet of Dorian Sevenar assigned to dealing with the growing threats to the Final Dawn’s interests in the Outer Rim. The plan was simple, establish a blockade in orbit of Omwat to prevent the local populace from sending a call for help to either Eriadu or the Rimward Trade League and acquire as much Omwati Children as possible to make use of their special talents before laying waste to the entire world via a base delta zero operation. A proper warning to those who defy the Final Dawn of the fate that awaited them.

As such Sevenar’s Ships would begin to establish their blockade and shut down all communications coming from the surface of Omwat through the FDS Stalker, while the first wave of landing craft containing soldiers of the Hand of Judgement under Captain Joseph Torson would head towards the Capital City of Omwat ready to commence the operation. More Final Dawn-aligned forces would arrive shortly after in the form of naval reinforcements along with Mercenaries and Marauders enlisted by the Final Dawn with every individual group being sent to a separate city to carry out their respective operations. Omwat would be baptized in fire and blood and its youth brought back to O’reen to become servants of the Final Dawn. This was the will of the High Regent, the beginning of Sularen’s War of Purification against his many enemies across the Galaxy. Glory to the Final Dawn. Glory to the High Regent.

The command center of a Bellidux-class Battlecruiser

Vandar stood calmly in front of the display in the command center of his capital ship, a Bellidux-class Battlecruiser. Alerts had come in across the sector, and forces were deployed in advance. Thankfully, the sensor nets of Imperial Patrol Frigates across the sector had caught wind of the incoming invasion in advance, allowing the Eriadu Authority to make preparations.

"Set the sector on high alert and notify our allies. We shall teach the Final Dawn a lesson long overdue."

Tarkin's Chiss aide nodded, and within minutes a message would be sent to Mya Jesel Mya Jesel , who had contacted Tarkin months before about the Dawn, informing her of the situation at hand. The message sent to Mya today was not a message begging for aid, merely a message from one neighbor to the other of rabid dogs about to be loose in the neighborhood. Meanwhile, alerts were being sent to the other leaders of the Federation, and garrisons were being manned to meet the invaders.

Tarkin's battlecruiser itself entered hyperspace, headed for Omwat to meet them when they arrived. Wilhuff had terrorized the planet and the people in his day, and Vandar saw the necessity in proving that he was not the same as his ancestor before him. Alongside Tarkin's Bellidux, an fleet consisting of two
Pellaeon-IIIs, a pair of Intercessor-class Star Destroyers, a trio of Donnager-classes, and an Alveare-class carrier travelled with him to Omwat.

As the Bellidux traveled through hyperspace, Tarkin mused on matters to himself. Apparently Sularen had not learned his lesson on Eriadu, but whether or not he would be at Omwat personally today would become a greater embarrassment to the Dawn than the summit ever was. A part of Tarkin was eager to get to Omwat already; it had been what felt like an eternity since Vandar had felt the rush of combat, and while verbally thrashing the Dawn was one thing, this would be far more exhilarating.

The comlink had buzzed Mya awake in the dead of night, coming in from an encrypted channel she took several moments to recognize.

Vandar Tarkin Vandar Tarkin . Moff of the Eriadu Authority. Backed by the Empire. But, they were a local government that had not revealed any totalitarian or militant-expansionist tendencies, and when it came to the Final Dawn, well, they were neighbors and allies, even if unofficially.

It took her a few moments to process the information, but when she did, she jumped out of bed and threw on a jumpsuit before she was aware of it, sending high-priority messages to the rest of the council and the ambassador to Sullust, including a meeting place, time, and a copy of the message she'd received.

The Final Dawn had rejected all diplomatic overtures and made open war on the planet of Omwat, presumably to retaliate against Tarkin's rejection of the Dawn's offer several months beforehand.

It was not a request for assistance, but it was an alert. And Omwat was the better place to engage. They could trap the Final Dawn ships from three directions if the Home Guard could be convinced to aid them.

Given Miel Tevv's offer to deal with Karazak, she suspected that was likely. After a moment, she also sent a coded message through ORION to the League privateers, informing them of the situation.

A communications specialist paused, studying the message coming in on the highest priority channel, straight from the Council. It was very simple.

Send all privateers to Omwat as soon as possible. Final Dawn.

She nodded to herself and pulled up the series of locked communications to the bearers of letters of marque, appraising them of the situation.

OMWAT
JEDI PILGRIMS & CIRCLE OF THE LIGHT HAND

Omwat was a planet of many wonders. Not only were they incredibly intelligent, but they knew how to balance technological development with ecological conservation, and their cities were works of art.

Honeycomb-settlements. That was the only way he could think of describing them. Elegant, intricate, and sophisticated.

But the primary reason he had brought a contingent was to learn from the Omwati Force Tradition.

Small, little-known beyond their own world, they were one of the few species to develop their own Force tradition after joining a galactic government with Jedi ties, even while maintaining connections to the Jedi Order.

Tiland, and the others, had much to learn from the flexibility of the Omwati. He had brought the others with him.

They had been learning about the unique methods used by the Omwati to visualize their connection to the Force and had paused for a tea break.

The Force surged through Tiland's mind and he nearly dropped his cup of tea, but only his reflexes caught kept the tea from spilling. Hatred. Bitterness. Malice. Fury.

It stormed through the system like a storm and he hurried to a window, letting out into the atmosphere. He could just make out the vague shapes warships approaching the planet.

"An attack," Tiland said, looking back to speak to the others. "Omwat needs our aid."

James Ephraim

Guest
J
Kidnapping.

That single thought echoed through Bonsi's mind. He looked up from the metal floor of the transport, straight at James. He smirked at the bandaged-covered man, there he sat, a holopad in hand, his blaster in the other. Bonsi still didn't know why he followed him, but the loyalty he had was fading as Ephraim's morals did.

He sighed, looking to his left. Sitting with him and his boss were ten of them, the Kovatroopers. They looked nearly as dejected as Ephraim did, if not more so. He coughed into his hand, finally speaking up. "James." he called.

Ephraim looked up from the pad, a pensive look in his blue eyes, "Yes, Captain?"

He paused, what was he going to say? Did it even matter? It wouldn't change James' mind, that was certain. Maybe he could do something though, make him reconsider. "Are you sure about this?"

Ephraim Sighed, chuckling to himself. "I am." He smiled under the bandages.

Bonsi again, like he always did, shook his head. "This isn't right- I mean- taking younglings, really!?" He couldn't believe how little James cared, someone who had always been compassionate in his line of work.

"I'm sorry, Bonsi. But this is the way it has to be, times change, and money becomes something that we can't ignore."

The mission was simple. James and Captain Bonsi would lead a covert team into Omwati Capital City and take notable younglings. Particularly ones that showed great promise. Ephraim had done his research, he knew exactly where to strike and go. All of this would be made even easier under the cover that the war provided. Of course, conscripts would be taking part in the main assault, under the command of Commander Alps. the Chiss commander was good at his job and gave James a run for his money many times.

Any moment now, the transport ship that Bonsi, James, and the troopers sat in would take off, finding a discreet place to land, then make their way into the city. Yes, they were taking younglings, children, many ages really. But it was necessary to make sure the company survived. Morals or not, the company would survive, Ephraim was sure of it.

The quiet whir of the air conditioners buzzed in his ears, and its cool air graced his tired face as he studied the river of information flowing down the dataslate in his hands. The surge of a sizeable battlegroup arriving in-system scrawled down the screen alongside a report on the engines drawing far more power than they should have been. It was all white noise to the Essonian. This was trade league territory, or thereabouts of it, large fleets were not uncommon.

"Where's that fleet helmsman?" He asked dully, his voice cracking from lack of use, a wholly unpleasant noise.

"Looks like Omwat. Lot of traffic coming from that way my prince, civilian channels are frantic. Don't think that's trade league." Replied helmsman Craich from his seat at the nose of the bridge.

Lothaire lofted a brow and tore his gaze from the slate for the first time in what felt like hours. "And who might it be?"

"Too far for IFF signatures, but I'm hearing Final Dawn on comms chatter. What isn't being jammed anyway." Craich leaned over the side of his chair to spit a glob of something black and reasonably disgusting in the nearest trash can. "Not really our business."

"Net eise seschäft? D'Gëttin huet eis hei fir e grond bruecht." Lothaire grumbled in his native tongue.

Craich waved a hand dismissively. "Your grace, as we've been over before, I do not speak the language of the fatherland."

Lothaire scoffed, "You do yourself a disservice Craich. I find I can never properly express myself with basic, such a limited language. When I am kaiser I will ensure all our peoples, Essonian and otherwise, learn to speak the true ton-"

"The Final Dawn fleet?" The helmsman asked pointedly, tired annoyance dripping from his words.

Lothaire's eyes widened slightly for a moment, lips parting in an 'oh' before nodding. "Yes, the fleet. If it is not our business, then why has the goddess willed us to refuel here?"

"Because we were running out of fuel."

"Semantics Craich. Semantics."

The Ashlan prince pressed his palm into the side of his chair and thrust himself up to his feet. He shed the exhaustion that had been clawing at the edges of his mind like a dirtied cloak, new purpose filling each step as he marched toward the podium at the center of the bridge. "Are we finished refueling?"

"Seventy-two percent capacity your grace," answered one of the crewmen from her console.

"Acceptable. I doubt this will take us terribly long. What are the arrangements of the fleet?"

"Hard to get a proper read, but it's sizeable. Not sure if Omwat has one too.. Orders?"

Lothaire folded his arms behind the small of his back and allowed himself a small smile as he gazed out into the star-lit void. "Let us not march in blindly. Detach from the port and prepare a short jump on the opposite side of the system. I want to be close enough to hail them, not to shoot them."

"At once your grace."

The crewmen busied themselves with the preparation. Lothaire lorded over them for a moment, appraising their work as if he understood the slightest bit of what they were doing, and turned to wander back to his seat, black cloak trailing behind him.

Craich waved a hand as he drew near and dropped his voice to a mere whisper. "You know those Final Dawn folk have history with our people, right? Their leader, Sularen, he was one of your father's lords. Stuck around after those alliance dogs stole the core from us."

Lothaire raised a brow. "A starving hound will remain with its food long after its master has left it. I cannot blame him for following his nature, though his crimes remain all the same if I have heard correctly."

"Don't be too hasty your grace," Craich shook his head, "He backed the loyalists even after the alliance took the capital. Backed 'em till they forbade the return of the kaiser. Paid for it too I think."

"Then we owe him a debt?"

"That's your job to figure out. Just wanted to get you in the know before you make a call."

Lothaire's brow furrowed as the blue-white streaks of hyperspace enveloped the Prodigal Son. The Star Destroyer was a relic from the days of the nationalists and served the prince well despite its age. Better so now that it bore a regal name rather than its previous moniker of Illuminator.

The Star Destroyer and its small escort dropped on the opposite side of the system from the fleet.

Dorian Sevanar Dorian Sevanar would receive a static message, though the channel was open for a proper call.
"Greetings, this is Prince-Chaplain Lothaire Grayson of the Fourteenth Expeditionary Crusade. I am admittedly curious of your intentions."

“Admiral,” Capt. Hemorn Sheka started from his station at the helm. “Is it really wise to use the entire contingent of force supplied by the Empire to help Omwat?”

Admiral Eremia Loigos scoffed and shook her head. “You only understand numbers Sheka. You understand them well and that is why you are the Captain of my flagship. There is more to war than just numbers and we’re making the jump into politics as well. What would be a better use for these ships? Hovering above Pantora exposing our plans before they have had a chance to ensure they are ready to spring into action? No. These ships are not supposed to be part of the Pantoran Navy, so they need to be deployed elsewhere.” She motioned out the viewport at the Final Dawn.

“What better place to test our newly acquired firepower and prove our use to Tarkin and Haskler than to deploy here?” The Admiral hummed and looked at her Captain with mirth.

The Captain gave a nod of his head and then continued to question. “So what do we do now?”

The Admiral laughed. “We wait. Omwat is of interest to us. Akron has labs on the planet that are making advancements for Pantora’s future. But it’s not enough for us to throw our resources against Final Dawn. This system is of interest to other allies. We wait and when the time is right we add our strength to the counter-offensive.”

Admiral Loigos took the command chair and motioned to the communications officer. “Get me a line to Admiral Rinral.” She glared at the officer who merely nodded when the line was open. “Admiral Rinral. I want to be in position to flank the Final Dawn forces if necessary. I know Tarkin well enough to know he’s not going to stand idly by as this incursion happens. We’ll have more allies inbound soon enough. Be prepared to pair up with them and attack at a moment’s notice.”

High Admiral Seveirum stood aboard the bridge of the Alveare-class Star Destroyer in Tarkin's fleet, which he had christened Scabbard. The vessel was a fair bit larger than the Valiant-class he usually captained but in an important battle such as this, the High Admiral took it upon himself to personally captain the carrier. Throughout the academy and beyond he was always close by Vandar, and today was one of the most important days to be so.

"By the Force, some people truly never learn their lesson, do they?", Dantius thought to himself as the Scabbard travelled through hyperspace towards Omwat. He had seen the security footage of the summit, many in the Authority had, and part of Dantius was surprised to see the Final Dawn come knocking again. He wasn't entirely sure whether they were brave or foolish, but bravado borne from ignorance was not bravery, it was plain stupidity.

"Once we exit hyperspace, engage scanners and transmit the data on the Final Dawn's fleet to our other vessels. Wait for Tarkin's signal to engage." The bridge crew immediately began relaying the instructions across the vessel, which was abuzz with activity. High Admiral Seveirum stood tall at the forefront of the bridge, mentally counting down the time before the fleet arrived over Omwat. Regardless of the coming battle's onset or outcome, this was sure to be a day long remembered.

It felt sooooo good to be sitting in a command chair.

Many years of humiliation had brought Brodan Dobson to the Final Dawn. He had been set up for failure by the disgraceful Grand Shepherd Burtch and brought up on charges in a totally biased trial. He had been banished, exiled, and humiliated by being forced to serve as a lowly servant in the Sakuran Empire. Then, his master Kimiko Taiyou had perished in the battle of Tython and left him with absolutely nothing.

A year later, it had been Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen that had reach out to Brodan, sympathized with him, and returned him to the fold as an actual naval officer once more. And with a whole command of his own to boot!

He ran his hands along the front of his Final Dawn uniform, crisp and clean, and he basked in the feeling of wearing his deserved prestige once more. Once again, he had assistants, server droids that tended to his laundry, fine ship’s quarters, and most of all, crews that showed him the respect that he deserved. He was almost whole once more…

… Except he still lacked a commission though. He held no formal rank, and there was no insignia plaque on his chest. He was placed in command of the Scorn Battlegroup, but on the condition of probation. Technically, Brodan was still a civillian now; a civillian on contract to command the forces of the Final Dawn. It made things awkward for Brodan, since his subordinates were actually on the pay-roll and his senior staff all held real commissions. But at the very least, Brodan had the capacity to speak with the authority of Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen as the High Regent himself had assign Brodan to this command. That seemed to be enough, even if there was awkwardness between him and his crew.

The strobing lights of hyperspace began to shift into streaks as the FDS Shame began to reenter realspace. Brodan shiften nervously in his chair, focusing his mind. He was ready for this, and he was going to earn that commission! He was dead set on it, and he would pay any price to get one!

The stars began to stop moving and a massive orb suddenly grew into existence before Brodan’s very eyes. The planet showed all the signs of a civilized, temperate world, and soon, he could see swarms of angular dots. They, too, grew as his fleet finished its reversion to realspace and settled right in behind Dorian Sevanar Dorian Sevanar ’s fleet.

Brodan sat up straighter and looked around his bridge, expecting to hear reports. Nothing. Silence.

He cleared his throat loudly. One officer, junior rank, actually looked up at him and then his eyes darted back down to his console. Brodan sighed irritation, REPORTS, PEOPLE! Sensors, what’s the situation around Omwat?”

The chief sensor officer turned to look at Brodan and removed the headset from her ears to speak, “Sir, we have a group of lighter warships in the area that appear to be no larger than heavy cruisers. If any more ships are en route to defend this system, we haven’t seen them yet.”

Brodan forced himself to focus on his situational awareness. He keyed his console and an image of the battlefield came up. He saw Eremia Loigos Eremia Loigos fleet of cruisers hanging out of range, poised to attack the Final Dawn fleet. Brodan grimaced as he realized that part of the original plan was already jeopardized. A planet-wide blockade was not possible if the system in question had any substantial space forces of its own to repel a blockade. In a blockade, the Final Dawn would need to spread its forces thin over the whole planet to restrict traffic, and in doing so, the fleet would have trouble supporting itself. Begrudgingly, Brodan had to admit that he had ample experience in overextending his fleets and he knew quite intimately how vulnerable that could leave them all. Conclusion: they would have to crush the defenders first before committing to a proper blockade.

Brodan suddenly realized that his own fleet had the best screening units. It was likely going to be a line-vs-line fight and Brodan’s group would be up front and center. His gut twisted in fear…

Every instinct in his gut told him to run, or to send Dorian Sevanar Dorian Sevanar suggestions that would put Brodan out of harm’s way. He was not like the average lowly wog of the navy; dying was for the underlings. But Brodan heeded Marlon Sularen Marlon Sularen ’s words when they met: “I need to be certain that there will be no repetition of the incident that had occurred during that fateful confrontation with the forces of Ekun Vagabond meaning you will have to prove yourself in the first place.”

Brodan knew that if he did anything to put his own life ahead of the mission, his chances of gaining a commission were over, and his dreams of revenge against the Elysium Imperium would be over.

He swallowed hard, and shakily keyed his own comm with a direct line to Dorian Sevanar Dorian SevanarS-Sir, Scorn Battlegroup is reporting ready and able. Wh-where do you need us?”

The Authority fleet soon dropped out of hyperspace above Omwat, alongside Dantius Seveirum Dantius Seveirum and the rest of their fleet. All hands were already at battle stations, such a call would be unnecessary. Vandar immediately saw Dorian Sevanar Dorian Sevanar 's fleet, but the scanners quickly identified additional vessels in the AO that hadn't been in the warning. They had likely arrived after the Authority's fleet had already entered hyperspace. A group of vessels were almost immediately identified as friendly Imperial vessels, flying the IFF tags of Eremia Loigos Eremia Loigos and her fleet. However, another cluster of vessels, a battlecruiser and escorts, had no such identification. At a gesture from Tarkin, the communications officer attempted to hail Lothaire Lothaire 's battlecruiser. "Unidentified vessel and escorts, this is the ESD Targe of the Eriadu Authority, please identify yourselves." After that, Tarkin would have the comms officer switch to open channels.

"Final Dawn, this is your first and only warning: depart from Omwat at once, or you will be fired upon. Failure to respond will be taken as refusal, and you will be fired upon. I repeat, this is your only warning, vacate the sector or be fired upon."

Tarkin spoke up now, addressing his crew. "If you see so much as a point defense cannon light up or a single fighter take off, open fire. It is unlikely they'll take their chance to actually leave. Seswenna Aeternum." Tarkin stared at the display, glaring daggers at the Final Dawn fleet. If looks alone could kill, the fleet would be nought but stardust and echoes.

To say that this was the weirdest job he or his men ever received would be a lie. But it was a contender to say the least. Stealing babies then glassing a planet wasn’t really what the Hellions were known for… but at the end of the day, the company didn’t care where the credits came from. Merely that they came in. The only problem in this equation was their employer.

The Final Dawn. The only civilized bit in the Maw… that didn’t say much but it was a start.

”Client’s fleet will take care of the capital, correct?” Jas asked as he turned to Herrix next to him. ”Yes sir, the client's already moving into position. Blockade’s established and transports deployed. Are you… sure… about this, sir?” The captain asked as he glanced at the Pureblood. Jas looked away for a moment as he mulled over it once more.

It didn’t really sit right with him either. His entire bridge felt odd about the work. Their clients typically had all manner of requests and orders with the work. Glassing a planet wasn’t an issue. Going into cities to lay waste to it all also wasn’t an issue. But for some reason, the thought of stealing children from their parents had a number of the hardened mercenaries feeling at odds with their orders.

”Orders are orders, Herrix. We lost the privilege of questioning what the kriff we’re doing the day we signed on for this.” He muttered as his golden eyes looked at his ship’s captain. The man wasn’t happy with the answer but gave a nod. :: All ships, this is Overlord. Join up with the blockade and deploy all forces. Tython to Candeera, Lorta to Askim, and Nimban to Faljala. Keep the corvettes housed for now but keep weapons on standby. :: He ordered the rest of the fleet.

Jas slid his helmet on and turned to look at the marine officer of the ship. The Zeltron had a hell of a reputation among the men already… and not for the right reasons. ”Corporal, I hope you can keep a steady head with this. If I see you chasing some poor lady’s ass, I’ll break your legs.” He grumbled as he marched with the man to the hangars.

Inside the hangars, the area was a buzz of activity as soldiers boarded gunships, tanks were locked onto the bellies of the ships and starfighters scrambled for takeoff. All around two corvettes waiting for orders inside the space as well. ”We have authorization for liquidation, but let’s keep the overall destruction to a minimum. If the company can set up shop here and provide aid to the people, we’ll have one hell of a bonus at the end of this.” Jas explained to Alecto as he stepped into a gunship. ”Let’s just hope that Hex Incorporated doesn’t get shafted with this deal, otherwise we’re all on the chopping block.” He went on with a light smirk in his voice.

The gunships took off along with their fighter escorts towards the planet’s surface. The Hellions onboard all checking their weapons and gear one last time. Speeders, tanks and trucks were all magnetized to the bellies of the gunships as they made their way down to the planet’s surface.

Key locations were seized first. High concentrations of civilians, residential areas, and finally any forms of escape offworld or from the city were cut off.

Immediately the soldiers all moved through the crowds with blasters set to stun, already loading children into trucks in order to be escorted back to the gunships while others engaged the planetary forces with overwhelming firepower. Theoretically it was a very simple mission, easy money. But all hopes of a simple job was dashed when reports came in of other ships entering the system’s space.

Things were going to get hairy.

High Admiral Seveirum received the command from Tarkin, and began a transmission across the Authority's fleet comms. "On this day we stand not only for each other, not only for Eriadu; on this day, we stand for the millions of sentient beings who look to us for security, for protection, for stability! As long as loyal men yet live, we shall provide! Stand tall, stand true, men of Seswenna, and we shall triumph this day! Seswenna Aeternum!" A chorus of cheers rang out across the Scabbard, its crew invigorated for the coming battle.

Like that, the transport was off. Just as James had planned, they had left the main ship under the cover that many others provided. In this case, James' respective cover was another mercenary group, named the 'Hellions'. He didn't know them, although a part of him really did. It paid to make connections, and James wanted as many as he could get. Flying close to the gunships, James and his troopers would make their way down to the city. Before long, they'd found a nice landing area, not too open, and not too tight.

Now, they made their way through a back alley, to their first target.

The soldiers had their backs against the wall, Bonsi at the edge. James crouched, peeking over the bin in front of them. He threw up a hand signal, ordering them to move. Slowly, they crouched through the city, making as little noise as possible. This part of the capital seemed very devoid of life, others had done well in clearing it out. But Ephraim knew where most of the families were, hiding in their homes, trying to wait this out. He pitied them, but this was the way it had to be. Before long, they were at the next checkpoint in their journey, they were getting close.

"Boss!" Bonsi whispered.

James turned him. It didn't take words for the other man to know what he'd ask.

"I just got words from Alps, there are a lot of ships coming in up there," Bonsi said, harshly.

"they'll be fine as long as they can get out," James assured, "We need to focus on this, be ready."

Bonsi shrugged. he didn't know about this and wasn't too happy about it either. But still, they pressed on.

Dov Grati; James thought. He was young, about twelve. He came from a poor family, but he showed exceptional skills in technology. And now, as the boy hid in his home, with his mother, armed men stood outside his house, prepared to knock the door down and rip him from his mother's arms. Then he'd see him, the man wrapped in cloth, like an ancient burial victim.

He'd be the first of many.

DARK FORCE RISING

Planetside on Omwat, a state of emergency had been instituted. Thanks to the Imperial Patrol Frigates acting as early warning systems, Omwat was aware of a coming attack, and as such martial law has been instituted until the threat has been dealt with. Scant few crowds would be found in the streets, having received the instructions to stay indoors for the time being.

Instead, the streets of Omwat were host to legions of Eriadu Army Troopers, Evocati Battle Droids, and Enforcer-class Dark Troopers, as well as repulsortanks and armored personnel carriers. In the air, TIE Strikers and Enforcer gunships patrolled the skies, ready to lash out at any incoming vessels. This was not a planet caught unawares as the Final Dawn may have anticipated, this was a planet under lock and key, ready for battle to come.

FINAL DAWN
OMWAT, OUTER RIM

TEMPEST SQUADRON
GROUP AUREK
The Blockade
Fleet Completion

Dorian Sevenar watched as the Secondary Fleet of Brodan Dobson arrived within the System followed by three Star Destroyers of the Hellion Private Military Organization both groups taking positions on the starboard and portside sides of Group Aurek's forces. Soon enough, the blockade over Omwat was secure and all the Director-Admiral needed now was for the Eriadu Authority and the Rimward Trade League to mobilize their own forces. "What's the status of the ground operation" the Director-Admiral asked. "James Ephraim's Mercenaries and the Hellions have made landfall and have begun kidnapping Omwati Children as instructed. However our scans indicate that the Authority has mobilized a garrison already present on the surface" an officer said in response. "Good. As for Tarkin's Garrison, the Hand of Judgement will deal with them soon enough" Sevenar said to himself, regardless of what moves Tarkin and Jesel made in response to the Final Dawn incursion, the Final Dawn would stay one step ahead of them and would emerge victorious in the end, one way or another.

Then the sensors of the FDS Hand of Judgement picked up something, warships having arrived in the system on the far-side of Omwat. "Uh, sir. We're detecting five new ships in the system, although we cannot identify whether they are allied or hostile" an officer said. Before Sevenar could respond one of the communication officers interjected. "Sir, we're receiving a message from the unidentified fleet's flagship" intrigued Sevenar proceeded to respond. "Put it through." Soon enough the message was played throughout the bridge of the FDS Hand of Judgement "Greetings, this is Prince-Chaplain Lothaire Grayson of the Fourteenth Expeditionary Crusade. I am admittedly curious of your intentions." Sevenar raised an eyebrow upon hearing this message, what was the Ashlan Crusade doing so far out here in the Outer Rim? Especially at Omwat out of all worlds in the region.

Before Sevenar could issue a response to the Ashlans, the sensors of his flagship picked up more warships this time set to emerge from the egress point right infront of the Final Dawn Blockade. "Sir, we're detecting a set of enemy warships emerging from hyperspace." an officer cried out. Soon enough nine warships would emerge from hyperspace followed by an additional fourteen. Sevenar immediately recognized who was in charge of those fleets. "Tarkin" he said out loud. Atlast, the self-proclaimed High Moff of Eriadu had shown his card arriving with his fleet and perhaps even accompanied by the fleet of his allies as Sevenar recognized the flagship of the second fleet as belonging to the Pantoran League. Regardless this poor excuse for a rapid-response fleet would soon be reduced to floating hulks once the Final Dawn dealt with them especially considering at how they did not have the Rimward Trade League to back them up yet. "Sir, we're receiving a transmission from the Eriaduan Flagship." the communications officer cried out. Soon enough the entirety of the Final Dawn Fleet including that of Brodan Dobson and the Hellions would receive the following message.

"Final Dawn, this is your first and only warning: depart from Omwat at once, or you will be fired upon. Failure to respond will be taken as refusal, and you will be fired upon. I repeat, this is your only warning, vacate the sector or be fired upon."

The Bridge would go silent upon hearing the ultimatum, with the entirety of the bridge crew looking at the Director-Admiral for orders. Sevenar simply grinned and proceeded to relay his orders. "Very well then. Let's give Tarkin his response. Target his Flagship with our orbital autocannons and have Tarkin's Bane follow suit. Then have all Yahata Point-Defense Systems primed and ready to intercept any counter-attack carried out by Tarkin's Fleet. Finally Have the rest of the fleet refrain from opening fire on Tarkin's fleet or from deploying any starfighters. We'll let the High Moff reveal what else he has up his sleeve and then we'll annihilate him once and for all. Glory to the Final Dawn." Sevenar ordered.

Almost immediately, the
FDS Hand of Judgement and the FDS Tarkin's Bane both began re-orienting themselves turning to point directly towards Tarkin's Flagship and slowly pulling upwards to reveal their massive ventral orbital autocannons. Within seconds ten powerful shots would be fired from the autocannons headed straight towards the ESD Targe, Tarkin's Flagship with the intent of dealing considerable damage to the Eriaduan Flagship or at least instantly taking down it's shields in a single strike. Thus, the Battle over Omwat had begun, and Director-Admiral Sevenar was determined to make sure this would not end up in disaster like the last time Sularen had independently gone after his foes, during the Battle of Ord Mantell. The Final Dawn would emerge victorious and Tarkin would be humbled, one way or another, for that was the will of the High Regent. For that was the will of the Final Dawn.

Raid on Omwat

FINAL DAWN
OMWAT, OUTER RIM

HAND OF JUDGEMENT
TASK FORCE STARDUST
Commanding Officer : Captain Tyrell
Fleet Comp.
Invasion Force
Starfighter Support

As the Final Dawn and Imperial Federation clashed in orbit of Omwat, a two trios of warships would emerge at the far-side of Omwat, far away from the Final Dawn Blockade and the Imperials. These warships under the command of Captain Tyrell were part of an expedition of the Hand of Judgement, Sularen's Private Elite Paramilitary Force which despite having rarely seen combat against other factions still had an impressive track record. They had been responsible for the death of Senator Seto de Couteau of the Galactic Alliance during the Battle of Empress Teta, who despite being a Senator was also a somewhat powerful force-user. They had gone toe-to-toe with House Io, notorious for slaughtering Imperial and Mawite Soldiers by the hundreds yet emerging from such an encounter with only minor casualties. They were Sularen's most loyal soldiers, whose skill and expertise could be relied on at any moment should not be underestimate, and Omwat would be yet another world on their target list.

Tarkin had humiliated the High Regent and embarrassed him infront of an assembly of Imperial Warlords and now the High Regent would have his revenge by devastating Tarkin's precious world through the usage of various Mercenary Groups and the Hand of Judgement. With thousands of soldiers located within the hulls of the three Judgement-Class Light Cruisers and three Prison Transports meant to carry the kidnapped children off-world before Sevenar's Fleet cleansed Omwat with fire the Hand of Judgement would easily crush any opposition that they might find on the surface. Tarkin would think Omwat would be sufficiently protected to fend off the raid carried out by the Final Dawn, but there was no force in the galaxy that could withstand the might of the Hand of Judgement, the executioners of Sularen's will and Omwat would be no exception.

Soon enough, the first wave of Final Dawn TIEs would emerge from the skies of Omwat quickly moving forth to engage the Eriaduan TIE Strikers and Gunships in many aerial dogfights while the Troop Transports would head towards the Capital City to reinforce the Final Dawn-aligned forces already within the city in order to eliminate any resistance from local Eriaduan Forces with the Prison Transports trailing behind them. The Three Judgement-Class Light Cruisers would remain in the upper atmosphere to order to maintain dominance over the skies above Omwat's Honeycomb-shaped cities and deprive Tarkin's Soldiers on the ground of any real chance at repelling the Final Dawn invaders. Like Sularen had said on Eriadu the Hand of Judgement would soon come crashing down on the worlds of the Imperial Federation, and Omwat would be the first to fall victim to the Hand.

Making A Decision

The prince huffed a quiet laugh to himself as a message pinged back across the slate. The Final Dawn offered him no response beyond what they gave the Targe, light amusement flashing across Lothaire's features just as the bolts from the Final Dawn's cannons winked through the starlit void. It seemed they'd stumbled into something of a disagreement.

He'd received the hail from the Targe ( Vandar Tarkin Vandar Tarkin ) but opted not to answer at first. Now, he opened it quickly, made some grunt of affirmation, and hastily readied a response. "Hello Targe!" His tone was disgustingly cheery, "This is the Prodigal Son, centerpiece of the Fourteenth Expeditionary Crusade, owing allegiance to the Holy Ashlan Kaisserreich and her constituents. We are second sons and unlanded clergy in search of glory and titles, though that is not relevant to your current situation."

The crew had grown silent and tense as the first shots were fired. They were uncertain if the Prince sought for them to interfere, and many had their own private reservations about the affair. Not just a few of them wanted nothing more than to clear the system and hunt for easier targets.

Unfortunately for them, Lothaire was unproven and unbloodied. His claim to the throne was often the butt of jokes in lighter circles and an object of scorn in others. No one was going to accept a coward for a king.

And so, as the fleet compositions of each arriving contender slowly coalesced across the command table just below his podium, Lothaire's mind had already settled on a decision.

"We were refueling in the system when we noticed the arrival of these rather...unsavory characters. Won't even say hello. Very rude folk if you ask me." And seeing as they opted to ignore me. "Do you require any assistance in dealing with them? It seems there's quite a few of them."

That the Final Dawn had opted not to respond to his hails had certainly played a rather large part in his decision to offer assistance to the Eriaduans. There were very few things Lothaire could not abide, but a lack of proper manners among the aristocracy was certainly one of them. If the heads of the nation could not be bothered with a simple friendly hello, then they should be happy with the turbolaser fire they received in turn as far as he was concerned.

For now, the Prodigal Son and its escort remained hanging there at the edge of the void.
