DESCRIPTION
The REC/SBD-01 "Evocati" - Series Battle Droid was the newest technological offering from the Republic Engineering Corporation. The conceptual birth of the Evocati came about from an unspoken demand from their customer base, who were looking for top-of-the-line replacements for their Organic Soldiers. Naturally, they perused the various companies that populated the marketplace and found the available selection wanting. This presented a rare opportunity for the Corporation, who was chomping at the bit to take advantage of this profitable situation. Thus, Republic Engineering didn’t waste a moment in assigning Design Teams to creating what they believed would be the epitome of widely available, advanced Battle Droids on the modern market.

When this monumental endeavour began, the Design team decided to harken back to an aesthetic that was popularized in the early years of the New Republic, after they had beaten the Galactic Empire and inherited a fragmented Galaxy. From what data they could recover about this capable Security Droid, there were several key influences in its visual appearance that stoked the powerful feeling of nostalgia, all the while presenting something new. There were hints of the infamous HK-47 Assassin Droid that were woven into the Chassis, whilst the armature extremities were reminiscent of the KX-Series Security Droid. With both droids in abundance, and the New Republic’s predilection of repurposing warspoil, rather than letting it go to waste.

While the Republic Engineering Corporation had plenty of material to draw from, they settled on the same aesthetic design - but with modern advancements and materials.

Thus, the Design team poured every ounce of their technical knowledge into the creation of the droid. Their first step was to ensure that the Combat chassis was rated for the stresses of frontline warfare, and to this end they mimicked the compositional properties of the B2 Super Battle Droid’s external shell. As Phrikite was an expensive and rapidly depleting resource amongst the stars, the Corporation elected to utilize the more readily available Cortosis - which would be woven into the armoured shell, giving it a significant boost against energy weapons, and a decent resistance against the formerly exotic Lightsabre. In addition to the impregnated Cortosis fibres, the external armour plating was further reinforced by a blaster-reflective compound - making the droid capable of shrugging off all but the heaviest energy weapons with relative ease.

From there, the Evocati was outfitted with a vast array of anti-piracy hard and software to keep the droid from falling into enemy hands. This included a layer of redundancy and hardened systems that made disabling the droid difficult, let alone slicing into its central processes without the proper authorization. The droid was also outfitted with a self-destruct mechanism that would trip when all of its internal security measures and redundant systems failed, where the fusion core would be forced into a critical state - turning the droid into an improvised and expensive bomb. These systems were further enhanced by the inclusion of an electrical defense grid, that would energize it’s external armour plating - delivering quite the numbing jolt to anyone seeking to access the Droid’s internal systems, or fight the machine in hand to hand combat.

To round out the Droid’s innate capabilities, the cranial module was outfitted with a vast array of sensor nodes and vision filters, that made it an almost perfect approximation of an Organic Soldier. It was capable of hearing, like any non-artificial creation, and had an olfactory sensor installed - all of which benefited the machine as it could detect the deployment of harmful gases and vapour. A benefit to their Organic comrades, to be sure.

One of the most interesting additions to the Evocati was the various programming upgrades that made them capable warfighters. It was an alternative to training that not only saved valuable time, but precious war material as well that would’ve been doubtlessly lost in the process. These upgrades allowed for the Droids to become Combat Veterans as soon as they stepped off the production line. This was due to the exhaustive archive of information that’d be installed within their various memory cores, giving them both practical and theoretical knowledge of battlefield tactics that they could draw from. However, these upgrades weren’t perfect, nor did they create the perfect soldier after they stepped off the assembly line.

Sure, they were capable and advanced warfighters - but only through earned experience would these Droids truly become worthy of their epithet.
