Team Datamine

Nyx found the members of the assaults quite competent at their jobs. It was only that they were so effective that the droid found herself without much to do other than to follow -- and while that had been the point of the Datamine team, Nyx was not one to remain idle. There was a great deal of data to occupy her processing units, but she could have done that just as easily back aboard her ship. Well, there was nothing to do about her circumstances except to make sure those part of her team didn't get hit by a stray bolt. Not that firing arcs were difficult to calculate when you weren't in the Mess.

At long last it seemed the Datamine team was about to get to work. All they needed to do was to cross and secure one bridge.

Only, Nyx knew what that meant -- the enemy was waiting for them. Right on cue, they dropped a smoke grenade and everyone started to take positions.

Kranek and Alpha took to the air. Sam sliced a turret. And a waif seemed to throw herself right into the mix. The last one really made things difficult. Smoke. Blaster Fire. Swords. There was a great deal of movement down there, and Nyx could scarcely charge in herself not being part of the assault group. Most inefficient.

"Excuse me." Nyx stepped forward with one hand extended. The screech of metal followed her iron grip taking hold of a banister. After she straightened up with a length of metal in hand, Nyx's red eyes stared into the billowing mists that obscured the way forward. A second later, Nyx drew the metal length back and then threw it down the length of the bridge as one would a javelin.

Her audio pickups detected the faint, but unmistakable grunt of the length finding a target. Oh, yes, all the commotion had made the mathematical formulas for a targetting solution quite difficult; but she had a great deal of experience with a wide variety of organic lifeforms. With such a wealth of data formulating an accurate predictive model wasn't so difficult. Any super electronic intelligence could do it. Not that the galaxy ever dared intentionally build such a thing.

The droid turned her gaze back to Saraiya then. "We shall arrive shortly." Because the current rotation of enemy personnel were diminishing rather quickly at the present rate.

Team Datamine

Well, don't we feel useless, hmm? ripped through the synapses. It was like, look away one moment, then next thing you know, it's a warzone.

"Figures." she mumbled under her breath as the Strike Team did what it was supposed to. She still had reservations, but she was still coming to grips with what brought her to this particular moment in her life. It was like one of those Holoshows where a record scratches, pauses, and someone tells you that this is indeed them. Then they assume you wonder how they got there. Every. Karking. Time. And wouldn't you know who won the pony? She was having her own holoshow moment herself.

She tried in vain to keep out of the way, but the droid asked to be excused as she stepped past Saraiya, grabbed a metal banister, and ripped a long chunk of it up. Sara's eyes went a tad wide as Nyx N1X3 Nyx N1X3 decided to use the length of metal as one massive lance, launching it into the abyss of smoke, melee weaponry, and blaster bolts. Time almost slowed for just a precious couple of moments for her.

So, you may be wondering; 'Saraiya, just how did you get into this mess anyhow?'. Only real answer was this: Never trust a woman in a better pair of shoes than yours. Sara couldn't help but wonder if this was a good idea or not, but somehow, she ended up in no position to decline the 'gracious offer' she was presented with. She preferred being on this side of the permacrete, anyhow. And even though the abilities of her current company seemed to be more than capable of that, she didn't trust anyone... at least not yet.

"I sure as chit hope so, 'chine. Sooner the better, at any rate..."

As the group moved past the wide entry way with loaders lined up against the wall they all heard a murky voice speaking over the intercom. Mairéad began to issue tactical orders and even made the hard choice to take no risks and consider anyone not in an office room as hostile. However Gorian had his doubts about that order. "As the briefing said, they shoot you shoot back. However Mairéad is making the right call. Last thing we need is to be ambushed in thinking we are saving innocence. Trust me we will save all we can from corporate slavery but not at the risk of you lot. Tactically short and long terms, all of you are worth more.

"
The last comment was cold and even calculated in her head but she was thinking like an information broker and caporegime rather than that of a quiet woman who hid away.

It was almost instant that battle ensued when Dedata's allies and comrades pushed forwards into the factory floor with terminal parts, paper and the beginning of vehicles was laid out in stations. Flashes of bright light scattered around the room that shortly began to produce smoke around areas of the large and long room, it was dark inside except for the spots that was illuminated by red lights. Even with the smoke that was deployed given the angles it was easy to make out the shadows or where exactly the blaster shot came from. Though it was easy to assume the enemy was not stood still.

The woman took two of the EMP poppers from out a bag setting them both to a timer. With a hard throw they arched over everyone till skittering across the floor. Everyone would see a blue pulse erupt in the smoke. She was banking on the lack of EMP protection on equipment like blasters or even coms. The Info Broker had remained behind her bodyguards with their shields as the woman did not intend to find out how much a shot would hurt.

Her hand slipped down onto the hilt of the Kopis to make use of its bizarre innate ability to show moments to the future. She looked to her right to see a red bolt of plasma strike true on Sara one that killed instantly. What she saw was not present but a few seconds. Without thinking the woman dived on to the pink haired extrovert as the shot skimmed off the back of Dedata's helmet. Kilo and Tera noticed quickly and adjusted to cover both women that was an easy target on the floor.

She quickly moved from off of Sara and extended her hand down to help the woman out. By this point Dedata had worked out the path they should take and a second route that seemed off but was more direct. She took out her datapad bringing up the map and counting on her bodyguards to keep her going in the right direction. There was no use to keep going blind even with the information. Most spaces was guessing work as the map did not label every section however the layout followed patterns she'd seen many times. She began to draw to lines with her finger then made a box over what Dedata assumed to be the offices. "Two feasible paths, we push through straight ahead and take a left at the end then access the labs there through an emergency exit. Means we will have to go through where they have industrial smelters. Seen them been dropped on people with a flick of a leaver. Otherwise, we need to move up to the third level where the offices are and go through decontamination showers.
4TsQGPK.gif
"

As she spoke Dedata knew the team would not like the next part she would suggest. "If we go for the second option then I will take Nyx and scale up ahead using the pipes. Kardek and Alpha seem like they are more mobile and would have an easier time to cover us and Sara would be down here offering support with engineering smarts.

Mai watched the unfolding combat and marvelled at her allies c9mbat abilities, the team was a hypereffective weapons being wielded by the caporegime and as they cleared the bridge the briefly stopped to discuss the next move. None were good options but it seemed like the overriding concern was to avoid unnecessary innocent casualties, something that Mairéad agreed with and would make her suggestion based on that.

"If we want to avoid a bloodbath the offices is the wrong move, I say we head through the smelters. As long as we assume they might drop on on us, we can make sure we avoid that." Mairéad smirked under her armour thinking if the training that Stardust Solus Skirae Stardust Solus Skirae had given her on Mustafar, maybe this was the wrong time to find out if she could do to molten metal what star had asked of her with molten rock on that volcanic world. With no opposition she would proceed, it seemed to her the best way to avoid ambushs too, less clutter for safety reasons gaveess hiding places.

The room itself, as they proceeded into it was a large and got space, three stories tall with smelting buckets hanging from a large monorail that ran in through a gap in the wall, over the facility and then out the other side. A metal gantry ran around the middle about half way up and Mairéad could see what looked like a control terminal. "Kardek, Alpha, want to take a vantage up there? Stop them getting to those levers as we cross." her HUD updated with the air temperature in the mid 40° range, Mai wasn't concerned for herself, her abilities would keep her cool easily, but they couldn't dawdle in this vast room for too long, and the closer they got to the vats the hotter it would be.

"I think that is our best shot to the emergency staircase" she pointed at the emergency exit at the other side of the room, a good 70 metres away past the machinery. She looked at Dedata | Celty Ree Dedata | Celty Ree for confirmation as spoke. There were a few other entry ways into the room but currently there looked like nobody else was in here with them.they would have to watch for the doors, the strike team had proved how dangerous they were, if the enemy thought they could spring an ambush she had no doubt they would try.

Mairéad took the first steps onto the lower metal floor of the room, about a metre below the entry way down a short metal staircase and began to advance, taking a short jog to a large mould that she could squat behind and watch her allies follow. She was quite pleased with bow naturally her mandalorian training was coming to her nowadays, every mission these things became more and more her second nature, her family would be proud. From the heat readings on her HUD, several of the smelting buckets were in fact full, but the one above her had already been poured into the mould she stood next to.

She moved with the grace of water over stone. The only break in her rhythm when the strange wiffling sound of something new became more and more clear. Her spin bringing her to view a piece of the banister being thrown into the fray.

She didn't have time to do more than drop to the floor, breaking the subtle spell over her movement as the blade clacked against the ground.

A deep exhale and her whole form seemed to sag into the effort of breathing. Drained, and extremely worn from effort, she tapped a few of the guards around her with that same smokey whisp. The slight brush of contact stealing vigor from each to replenish what she had spent.

For anyone able to see, her cheeks seemed sunken, eyes circled by dark rings, and skin drawn tight where visible. The effects of her magick taking their toll but eased with the supping of those around her.

She fixed the eyepatch, pushing herself upright with the blade as orders were passed along.

She followed behind Mai, waiting for something more to happen as she gave herself a second to recover. A breath in, a breath out as her form recovered.

Kardek and Alpha had been unleashing an unrelenting volley into the midst, however his hand quickly pulled back at observing the strange yet powerful display of Jenzid Channsalj Jenzid Channsalj as she threw herself fearlessly into the midst of the enemy. Their volley grew much more carefully and infrequent, not desiring to accidentally strike the teammate. A bit frustrated at first, Kardek eventually felt a sense of growing intrigue at her impressive abilities.

Kardek and Alpha landed beside the others, listening as they processed their next move. He pierced his lips, furrowed eyebrows suggesting he was unpleased at being directed like a dog, however the rogue remained silent. He replaced his partially used energy cells in favor of being fresh for this next phase of battle, letting the partially expended cells clank against the ground.

As they proceeded into the the smelting room, Kardek took in the spectacle, beginning to assess their best move forward. Pausing at hearing Mai's proposal of the two of them taking a higher vantage point to protect the group, he shrugged. It wasn't a terrible plan.

"Very well." He commented nonchalantly, activating his and Alpha's jet packs as they drifted upward and found a decent position to provide cover for the team. Kardek and Alpha took their positions further away from each other in order to provide maximum coverage from above. Alpha levied his cannon against a railing, his gaze searching steadily across the expanse. Kardek drew a bit closer, both blasters drawn as he cautiously and silently approached to the levers that held the molten pits in place. He screwed on silencers as the approached, desiring to draw as little awareness to his position as possible.

Kardek hid quickly behind a wall as he observed some enemy guards approaching, still completely unaware that the team had chosen to come through this way.

"Checking Smelters now!" One guard exclaimed over coms as then two ran down the catwalk quickly. As soon as their eyes fell down on the group, Kardek turned the corner and released a quick flurry of silenced munitions, Both men jolted backwards, falling lifeless against the catwalk as their weapons were flunk off and rattled a bit as they made their way down to the floor below. Kardek silently approached and picked up one of their com links, activating it as he spoke, mimicking their tone and timbre which he had overheard,

"Their not here! Smelters clear!" He then pocketed the com link in order to continue monitoring enemy chatter as he hid the bodies.

'All of you are worth more'. In the end, Samuel would agree with this line of thinking, to an extent. But it was the fact they added ‘tactically,’ to it. The Mercenary was ultimately out for himself, and anything to override this overarching goal would have to be deemed prudent when it had its moment. Considering the cost of failure, he was unwilling to let himself die because he was being careful. Then again, that’s why he brought his armor - it was a buffer for mistakes that might be caused by mercy. He was afforded it, because between exchanged blaster shots, he was the one likely to come out in the end with his frame. The words were better said as such: Everyone is worth the same, but he still cared about his own overall well-being more than others. Tried to out of habit, anyways.

Combat ensued with the group on the opposite side of the gantry. He watched as the woman ( Jenzid Channsalj Jenzid Channsalj ) rushed by, and the linked turret’s bolts continue to wreak havoc for her opening. For a moment, he was worried that blade of hers would taste blood. In the next moment, he was perhaps a tad surprised at the sudden turn of the blade. In an instant, the opening he and the woman created was capitalized on as he darted from cover, his sidearm ringing out with bolts of its own. He was careful not to accidentally hit Jenzid amidst the flurry of action; knocking a guard behind her with a lined-up crosshair unconscious here, a directed turret swivel to shoot the blaster out of another there. His more specialized tools were unneeded for the moment. Reaper, mounting the rifle atop of the sparse bit of cover behind him, managed to snag another farther away who went down with a crash. He would’ve advanced, but he had to linger back to ensure the protection of other - and good thing too, because a piece of metal went flying past him to impale a guard, in which he gave a soft frown. Regardless, there was little time to fuss, and he moved on.

When the smoke cleared, his visor briefly glanced back to Team Datamine, just to ensure their safety. “Alright back there?” Was the brief query to the pair, before his attention shifted forward at the next plan of action. As steps threaded forth, he briefly glanced at the unconscious and damaged bodies. Alive, for the most part; that was good enough for him. He noticed the woman perform that odd magick, again, but did little to comment on it for the moment. “Thank-you, miss. For not killing them.” Briefly spoken to Jenzid - Force Sensitive or not, he appreciated the gesture. At least, he hoped the magic wouldn't end up killing them. His gaze flickered to Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus 's proposed plan of action, in which he gave a small nod of approval for the avoidance of the rest of the facility. He didn’t mind, just would have to watch his head and make sure no one touched the levers. With this in mind, he lingered for a moment to let the rest catch up (as he still needed to ensure the safety of Team Datamine), and would tread forth. The dull thud of bodies hitting metal floors were heard from above, as his intent gaze focused forwards. Kardek and Alpha had them covered, hopefully.

Nyx turned her cranial unit to fix Saraiya with her red eyes for a moment. 'chine? Short for machine? Well, it could be worse. She could be surrounded by Darkwire hackers that thought it would be funny to test Nyx's cyber defenses. Not that there was any concern of them getting through, exactly, but the consequences if they did... Well, it was a double-edged self-defense mechanism; one that was necessary to keep -- despite being free of her original programming -- because of the data stored in her data core.

Her attention soon pivoted to Samuel when the man asked if they were 'alright.' Nyx was rarely not alright, but organics had a very... diverse set of status conditions. It was better if Saraiya gave the verbal response. Their resident electronic intelligence was content with giving the man a metal thumbs up.

Dedata's second plan had Nyx's attention because of her involvement, but Mairead seemed to prefer the first option. Either was acceptable in terms of Nyx's confidence in arriving at their destination. Showers were hardly a concern. The smelters could be, but only from sustained contact -- which was true for almost all lifeforms.

With the group in motion, the opportunity to scan Jenzid wasn't overlooked. Nor the data regarding use of her abilities could result in overwhelming fatigue. Had that been Force-based or Magick-based? Part of Nyx had always been curious about better quantifying either source of power. Perhaps with the appropriate amount of study an exercise regimen to increase the duration or reduce the strain on her organic shell would be possible.

Being relegated to being escorted, Nyx certainly had the compute time to spare. Though Nyx could stand to do with a little more firm data for the analysis.

As they stepped into the smelting chamber, Kardek and Alpha were tasked with securing the upper level. A role they performed diligently if not without a little sound. Alpha did seem a capable droid. Perhaps Nyx should see if they were open to learning how to throw solid objects. Knives, if possible, but anything would do when you had suitable motors and servos to empower a throw.

Nyx drew a little closer to Samuel as they moved. "Is your concern for the well-being of hostile parties philosophical in nature, or is there a practical component? I have heard that when an organic kills another organic it can have deleterious mental or emotional side effects. Further, those able to use what is called 'The Force' suggest it somehow hastens one to the so-called 'Dark Side.'" Every organic was different, and Nyx wasn't always convinced all of them even knew why they were against 'unnecessary' killing.

As she turned her attention forward once more, looking away from Nyx, she saw Dedata lob what looked to be grenades or something similar into the air. They arched almost gracefully over the strike team's heads, and landed with a small ~plink!~ before shuffling across the floor a few yards. In an odd sort of moment locked in time, Saraiya was stunned as things seemed to slow down around her. She wasn't sure what was going on, but it karking well took her by surprise as the bluish pulses erupted from the EMP. Before she could even truly process what had happened, events around her unfolded in real-time. Including a stray blaster bolt of crimson death right at her head. Her helmet wasn't blaster-proof, but it wouldn't even matter. In some sort of odd twist of fate, Dedata seemingly made good on her words as she crashed into Sara and they both went sprawling to the ground. Blinking a few times as she lifted her head up, everything looked very wobbly and blurry. She began to realize she'd been knocked back for a loop, and was looking up at Dedata who held a hand out for her. Grabbing it gratefully, she pulled herself back upright.

Thankfully, she still had her own blaster firmly in her other hand.
"Thanks...I think?" came quietly from blush-pink stained lips, still kind of bewildered. She actually saved my backside, didn't she? Maybe these Family-types really weren't joking around she thought as Dedata went through both options available. And to no surprise to the young grease-slinger, it seemed they would be going the more dangerous route. At least, she thought so. As far as engineering skills, she could definitely hot-wire some guard droids or some such. It was then that she heard a voice call back to them.

When the smoke cleared, his visor briefly glanced back to Team Datamine, just to ensure their safety. “Alright back there?”

"Still breathing, so I'd say that's a good sign." she called back. She watched as everyone kept on pushing forward, doing what they all came here to do. The place was still creepy as anything, all dark and mysterious, bathed in this blood red light that pulsed and flickered with no rhyme nor reason. Still, she kept an eye on the readouts of the scans she had been and still was taking of equipment around them, looking for something that might give them a little bit of an edge. For now, she was just glad Dedata was as quick as she was. Owed her one, now, it seemed.

It took time the teams around her made short work of those that had engaged with them, the smoke slowly dissipated making it easier to see what laid ahead of them. Dedata followed Mairéad and the hunter team into the foundry area. Loud noises filled the room with machinery and bubbling molten metal. The woman's eyes looked at the motion sensor as a line spun round though for the moment only green blips displayed. She tried the life forum scanner to confirm nothing laid in wait and with Kardek holding control panel, she was certain it was safe to move up.

It was obvious they where not alone still, or perhaps the person who made the orders was in with the security. There was no telling at this point either way things from here had to move faster. "Kilo, Tera and team Datamine with me. Mai, keep control of the floor. I picked nothing up with motion or lifeform scanners. No telling if there is a counter force in here though. I'm certain my bodyguards will be enough for up those steps, the labs are not as open space as it is in here.
4TsQGPK.gif
"

Dedata lightly jogged over to the emergency exit door that lead up to the labs. Running a quick hack to nuke the console's components the door locks lifted as a safety precaution. Kilo pulled the door open slamming it all the way to the side as the hydraulics in his Cyberware hissed.

"Think ya went a tad overkill on that door."
"What can I say, looked heavy."
"Pff, not as heavy as you."

Tera would get glared at by her brother the two of them went up first, their shields held in front in case a volley of rounds would bare down on the group. The anticipation made Dedata nervous all the way up the two wide steps. "Once its been checked if clear get to work. Take no more than five minuets. Can't carry it or put it in their bags, destroy it. Take any blueprints don't worry about destroying the copies...
4TsQGPK.gif
"
She put her hand in the bag on her left leg and pulled out a tool that looked like a data spike but altered. "This will run through the data stored here and wipe it all clean. This is what will hit the company most. People think credits is the only currency; Information, time and labour is a currency that trumps it.
4TsQGPK.gif
"

It took a few moments to get up the stair well both of Dedata's bodyguards kept things steady the whole way, they where being cautious for their bosses sake and something that was appreciated. The lab door hissed open automatically. Tera and Kilo moved inside checking the corners and looking between the workstations for anyone hiding between. "Clear, I think. Don't see no one."

"Don't see nothing here either. We will keep checking around if you lot wanna do your thing." Kilo said as he turned to face the three still in the doorway

Dedata moved in first and began to look around on the workstations. There was a variety of items some listed as prototypes others as partial projects. She spotted things like cybernetics, weapon parts even items that could be used for vehicles. It was not a shock given the nature of the company made machines for war. It was up to those around her to sort out what they wanted to take. She herself moved over to a terminal however once she got close the wall behind it showed it could be quick hacked. The woman looked back to see the others before she let her curiosity get the best of her.

Using the quick hack to open the door up she moved inside to see a whole other area of the lab but in pure darkness. Her HUD turned green as night vision activated there was an operation table inside and what looked like a bacta tank linked to a long console on the far side of the small room it was to dark to see if anything was inside. Moving further inside leaving the others to their jobs she looked around coming to the conclusion this was a private lab with some shady tech. As she passed by the workbenches the woman would slide the cyber ware in this room into the duffle bag to be reverse engineered later.

Finally she found herself on the fire side of the room where the Bacta tank was. From here she could see there was a woman with short hair inside missing both legs and arms and an wires extending from the persons head. Dedata leant over and plugged in her datapad into the terminal checking the datafile on the person inside. There was no name on the file just X-023. Delving deeper the previous people had died under extensive surgery. The woman stood there thinking for a moment before inputting into the terminal to release the person. "Kilo, need you in h–

"Feth feth feth shit." He said watching the feeds from the hidden room. "Hurry the feth up." The man was perplexed at how common criminals made it so far. The Doctor grinned as the camera's picked up an AV transport landed outside the facility, that grin widened at the sight of weapons that would rip apart the enemy. In fact he was pleased to see that the gear this facility made was what these people had equipped. Scatter shot, rotary cannons and Carbine blasters. His eyes flicked to another screen seeing that the group was making their way through the found.

It was hard to tell what the group was after, at first he thought they where after the stuff that was already off production ready to be transported, but they moved past that area. It then hit him that the few that had been practically in the middle was moving along with the one that he could not get an identification on. "Damn it, they are after the lab." He picked up the com this time not to blast it over the intercom. "They are in the foundry. Take them out and the others will be trapped in the labs. Between you and the exit they are trapped. Only way out is up and well see only two with jetpacks." As he spoke to the security reinforcements he began to turn off terminals.

The hidden door hissed open as Dr Sehrin Z. Varik hid quickly in a tight gap between two cabinets near the corner of the room. He was sure that he'd have been safe in the room. His eyes would keep watch of the woman causing anger to build up inside as she pilfered. As the woman moved to the furthest side of the room he slid out from between the cabinets and took hold of surgical vibro-knife.

Slowly he sneaked and when he saw a flinch the man rushed forwards activating the knife, with two fast steps forward Dr Varik pushed the knife upwards underneath the persons helmet and let the woman fall over the terminal. A mistake on his part as the womans hand hit the release opening the glass on the bacta tank. Fluid gushed out onto the floor as X-023 slumped against the back of the tank unable to move.

He turned around in panik rushing to the door and peeked the corner hoping to see an opportunity to escape.

The rest of the team made their moves and datamine headed in to the labs she heard Dedata | Celty Ree Dedata | Celty Ree giving out orders to the rest of the team, the foundry was currently silent besides the clanking of heavy machinery. Mairéad had a bad feeling about this and began moving in the direction of the doorway Dedata had carried on through. She looked at Samuel Exel Samuel Exel Kardek Alpha Kardek Alpha and Jenzid Channsalj Jenzid Channsalj , all capable warriors who could hold their own.

Then the alert came, one of the team's vitals went crazy, Dedata, what had happened? Where were her personal guards? <<Team Hunter, you seeing this? Going to go and check, watch our backs, somethings seriously wrong." She ran fast, going going as far as to use her repulsors to scale the stairs quickly. "WHERE IS SHE!" she snapped at Tera, not instantly seeing the other bodyguard. Tera gestured in the right direction and Mai followed, the gesture into the next room, her dreamsight immediately illuminating her vision. Kilo was standing over Dedata, who was unconscious and slumped over the terminals with blood soaking her back from wound in her neck, she had already lost a lot of blood. The floor was slick with bacta, but without that tank the stuff was useless. They needed to get her help soon.

The Doctor Varik meanwhile had seen enough to know he should remove himself from this dangerous situation. He had left the secret lab moments after his assassination of the data thief, and quickly flipped on his prototype multi-phase personal cloaking device. Even the mandalorians hadn't seen tech like this before, it was enough to ensure his safety, and yet he held his breath for the short time he shared the room with Mairéad and the two other interlopers. Once they headed in to his secret lab, his data hopefully secure with their hackers brain cut open, he made his exit.

<<All teams, Dedata is critical, we need to extract immediately, Datamine deal with her spike, hunter get us out of here, I will keep the capo alive.>> i hope the last part muttered to herself but she wasnt sure if it was before or after she disconnected the comm. "You better hope she survives!" Mairéad glared at the two bodyguards who would already be well aware of the likely consequences of allowing their valuable charge to be killed. As she reached down to the helmeted caporegime she spotted another humanoid, another woman, her arms and legs were missing but Mairéad could see she was still barely breathing. Presumably she had been in the spilled bacta, and probably linked to whatever Dedata came here for. Maybe she could be saved too, but Dedata was her priority, Family first over an unknown.

"Sorry De, I know you value your privacy but..." she pulled off the woman's helment and looked at her face for the first time, partially covered in blood from the laceration that still pumped blood down her neck. She looked in a really bad way and would die soon if nothing was done. Mairéad knew what she had to do, and the air already began to chill as the fear set in of her decision, she could save Dedata, or kill her, depending on what? her control over the force.

Mairéad slipped off her helmet and popped her breastplate off allowing her backplate to simply fall to the ground. The more organic the connection the safer it would be for Dedata. Mai dropped both of her gauntlets on the floor before carefully unzipping the back of Dedata's skin suit and slipping her already cold hands inside and around the woman's form like a hug from behind. Mairéad needed to convince the force that they were one body. "When the others get here, we will be sleeping." She said to the two standing guard, "what happens from here on out is down to the rest of you." speech was becoming difficult as Mai's body temperature plummeted and her breath became more ragged. Mai's eyes closed and a tear rolled down her face as she channeled her emotions to summon her cryostasis. Anyone close by and sensitive to the force would feel the dark nature of Mairéads power as both women were covered in a sheen of ice and were frozen solid, locked together in their embrace.

Team Hunter: Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus | Kardek Alpha Kardek Alpha | Jenzid Channsalj Jenzid Channsalj
Team Datamine: Nyx N1X3 Nyx N1X3 | Saraiya Darkstar Saraiya Darkstar | Dedata | Celty Ree Dedata | Celty Ree
Team Defender: Samuel Exel Samuel Exel

The gunslinger held his position above the others, keeping a careful lookout from both directions with Alpha. He felt a bit uneasy as he observed Dedata | Celty Ree Dedata | Celty Ree and her escort head out of sight towards the labs, his eyes glancing round at the others and feeling as though someone from Team Hunter should have cleared the way first. Anyways, it wasn't his op to lead, so he remained where he was.

Kardek received the alert as well… one of the team was definitely in trouble.

Mai said:
Team Hunter, you seeing this? Going to go and check, watch our backs, somethings seriously wrong."

Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus took off after team Datamine and Kardek stood up from his perch, placing a hand on the railing as he looked down at the others. Suddenly he heard a voice coming in over the intercom that he had procured from one of the guards earlier…

Dr Sehrin Z. Varik said:
"They are in the foundry. Take them out and the others will be trapped in the labs. Between you and the exit they are trapped. Only way out is up and we see only two with jetpacks."

His grip tightened on the railing, teeth gritted together. They had been made. "Prepare for battle!" He yelled over coms, "They know we are here and they're coming at us from all sides!"

Mai said:
All teams, Dedata is critical, we need to extract immediately, Datamine deal with her spike, hunter get us out of here, I will keep the capo alive…

Kardek cursed under his breath, his eyes looking around quickly to determine the best way to get everyone out of this mess. It was now up to him, and the could not fail. The odds were stacked against them… they were surrounded on all sides, and if the lost control of the foundry, then team Datamine would be trapped inside the labs with no escape.

Kardek threw himself over the ledge, his backpack igniting as he hovered there in the air above the rest of the teams below him,

"We must hold the foundry until Nyx N1X3 Nyx N1X3 and Saraiya Darkstar Saraiya Darkstar can get everyone out of the labs and back here! Go quickly!" Kardek motioned for the two to begin their extraction, knowing they were capable fighters and could hold their own. He then turned to the others, "We won't be able to escape upward with wounded. That means there's only one option for us…" Kardek pointed back solemnly towards the way they had entered, "Once Team Datamine is back with Mai, Dedata and the others, then Team hunter will push forward and clear a path back through the complex. Keep Datamine in the center, and Team Defender will protect from behind. We will be surrounded, so expect fire from all sides!" He then lowered himself on top of a crate filled with large durasteel plates being made from the facility. "Quick! Let's set these up and use these as our shields from both directions!"

The group would frantically lift the heavy plates from the crate and create a defendable perimeter on the floor. Once team Datamine got back, the team would push these in front and pull them behind as the group would slowly and painful make their exit.

Noises were soon heard, voices and footsteps from every direction approaching quickly. "Here they come!" Kardek yelled as he flew back up to his vantage point with Alpha, loading up his weapons and hiding behind their vantage points. It was critical that he and Alpha maintained control of the mechanical panels above, otherwise the enemy could still release the molten metal on the team below.

The enemy, heavily armored and heavily weaponized, began to release flurries of fire as they came into contact with the group. Multiple grenades were also being thrown, causing the team to either attempt to throw them back or to run for cover. The noise was intense, reminiscent of a war zone on an actual battlefield. Streams of blaster fire flooded the facility with bright flashes of light as the chaos continued.

As they stepped along, one individual ( Nyx N1X3 Nyx N1X3 )in particular sparked conversation with him, over a curious topic. He did not mince words with the Droid. One asking questions like that, usually needed a more ‘practical’ reason to consider it fair grounds. Had some experience with droids like that, anyways, assumed this one was similar. “Both.” Came Samuel’s simple reply. “You are correct, killing without restraint typically leads to a dulled mental and emotional state. That can wear on a mind, when it needs to remain sharp. This is philosophical in nature. But, if you’re asking for a practical component, I will place one; Reputation. It’s easy to become known for being a clean, efficient killer. Killing in itself is easy. It will earn you fear from your peers, and you will be seen as a blunt tool to be pointed where deaths need to be.”

“But being able to accomplish a job without killing much, practically handicapping yourself? That shows you’re able to keep up despite that. More than a tool. Some crowds see that as weak, but others don’t. That fear from others tends to instead be respect - a far stronger foundation than fear. And oftentimes, in this setting, that is far more valuable, and worth the tradeoff of occasionally being seen as a pushover by others - because that will only mean they underestimate you.”

He glanced over some at the mention of The Force, and the so-called ‘Dark Side.’ He gave a short, dry chuckle at that, “That’s what it’s called? Sounds like an excuse. They can worship and mythicise it all they want - it’s a weapon, a tool; if that weapon’s at their throats the second they aren’t paying attention to it, it’s an unreliable one. My experience, Dark Side’s just a way of naming the folks who use that weapon to do horrible things. And more often than not, that’s the case.”

He left it at that, with the team venturing forward. The woman that was a part of Team Datamine assured she was fine - which was good, since that was his job on this day. Samuel had turned his body as he made his moves with the rest - continuing to form the rear guard, for the moment. His scanners were active for his front, layered and sorted by the assistant embedded in the sophisticated suit of armor.

Then there came a Comm directed Team Hunter, about how something was very wrong. Moments later, he heard the words - ‘Dedata is critical,’ and eyes widen as an easy in-and-out turned into something much worse.

Feth.

Suddenly, pings of all different sorts of signatures came from various places in the armor. Notifications of clusters of motion, thermal signatures, the distant clamor of boots against cold steel - making its way here. A tide was coming, and they did not have much time before they had to weather it, or be swept away.

Gaze turned sidelong to Nyx, and the woman. “Go, you lot’s gotta handle the Data Spike. We’ll watch your backs.” As steps made their way. His job was to continue to watch over Team Datamine. Issue was, Team Hunter was down a member. But, something had to have injured Dedata. He doubted she just slipped and fell. Maybe a turret? Unfortunately, there were more pressing matters for the moment.

His visor flashed across to the opposite end of the foundry, bringing his sidearm to bear as steps made their way to the side. His weapon was flicked to its sonic setting, rather than the Electro-stun Rounds he had been using. There were times and places to restrain lethal intent. This was not one of them, and he had no issues with it. Lives were at risk, of which he had been charged - both by Contract, and by Word - to protect. He would not fail without a fight. Kicking over a crate with Kardek’s mention of it, he would duck under it. He barely spoke a word as the Gunslinger spoke, only deigning to say - “You cover the left. I will handle the right. They will try to fan out, more than likely. We can’t let that happen.” Being surrounded in this scenario would be asking for something worse to happen. Curses, should’ve brought mines.

More intensive sensor suite utilization was prepared - this fight was going to be messy. With the algorithm redirection from Dedata, he tried to search for a spare turret or two in this room, but there were none. No matter. He’d been in scrapes as bad as this one. He’d get out. Hopefully with the rest.

An eerie silence followed for a bit, as they waited for their adversary to bear down upon them. His grip on the hand-cannon tightened, as the motion signatures intensified. Then the door opened, and all hell broke loose. The trigger squeezed, recoil being pushed down from his grip in rhythmic, instinctual succession as white bolts soared. The first in the doorway fell to the ground with a sickening crunch - armor or not, it did little to prevent organs being eviscerated. The next two got grazing shots, sending them stumbling over their fallen comrade before the blaster bolts of Kardek put them down. He couldn’t loose shots as fast with one pistol - but all of them were well-placed. Didn’t need to spray them down when it only took one shot.

They did indeed begin to fan out, letting their fellows still crowding the doorway lay down more fire on his position. It forced him to duck with a curse. But, under his code of Bounty Hunting, one was always prepared. His hand flew across his vambrace for a moment, and the cloak was brushed aside as a shoulder-mounted Blaster Cannon made itself apparent. With it, he didn’t need to fully peek out of cover, only tilting some to give it an angle and barely look to let the targeting systems to the rest. And did the job they did - a flurry of high-powered shots from such a small target took the offending group by surprise, striking some in the chest and sending them flung back against the wall. A grenade was pulled, tossed, and blown into the air as the Cannon’s blaster fire intercepted it, creating a large gust of smoke and embers that rained down onto the room.

This was war. Survival. And he intended to survive.

Nyx's red eyes stared at Samuel Exel Samuel Exel as the man responded to her inquiry. His rationale was not unfathomable nor incorrect -- from an organic perspective. The most useful bit of information was in the way Samuel had responded, rather than what was contained in the response. He elaborated at length, clearly and concisely; which meant the man had given this some thought. It wasn't merely something he'd heard or been told to do. Even if so instructed, personal evaluation resulted in rewording it in his own voice. It meant this unit was no burdened by the man's presence despite his proclivity toward leaving potential hostiles alive.

"There is no gain to caring what crowds think. If it accomplishes objectives -- now or in the future -- that is what matters." Nyx, herself, did not care what organics thought of her. So many mistook her for a walking computer terminal, or a mindless assassin. It was in part, perhaps, why they hadn't charged Nyx with doing more in this mission. They took a great many chances on their own lives when their bodies were far more susceptible to lethal harm. Was not life full of objectives that had yet to be completed? They should take care they had time to finish what they had begun.

Soon they parted and Nyx accompanied Dedata | Celty Ree Dedata | Celty Ree as the woman wished.

If Nyx had been organic, she would have felt impatient at the pace in which the trio broke into and secured the chamber beyond the security door. As things were, she spent the time analyzing and dictating reports on Samuel's response. They would make a fine addition to his file in her memory banks.

"I will download the pertinent data," Nyx announced as Dedata strode forward to make her claim. The prototypes could be useful, but she felt her skills in sifting through data would be best spent on the terminals. Before Dedate had a chance to destroy said data -- a travesty, but only if it were not backed up first. Within Nyx's iron-clad memory banks that would be purged if someone tried breaking into those.

Along with her personality matrix and her 'lifetime's' worthy of sub-modules in mimicking organic behavior. An unparalleled travesty, were it to ever occur.

The end of a finger plugged into the terminal input for a direct tap into the data systems of the facility. Passing notes regarding the internal security were made and set aside as not pertinent to the task at hand. After all, if they had been pertinent they would have prevented Nyx from gaining deeper and deeper access to their secure data.

There was actually quite a bit of data present about the work done at the facility. Nyx was pleased to acquire so many reports and schematics. They should prove quite an intriguing hour's worth of material to properly categorize and assess.

Nyx's cranial unit cocked slightly to the side as she came to the end of the data stream. Red eyes turned to the side. "Dedata requires assistance." In case the two bodyguards had not heard her cut-off statement, or thought to dally occupied by something else.

It was too late from what Nyx surmised. Too late to keep the woman from harm. Schematics of the building and inputs from various systems had instructed Nyx there might be a concealed location within the secret laboratory Dedata had revealed. A spot that had no purpose. The only times such things occurred was when a support beam occupied the space, or it was meant to seem as though it did not exist. And why would you need such a thing inside a 'secret' laboratory only the most trusted people could access? Combined with the interrupted call for someone to join her... Nyx had several milliseconds to simulate a few probabilities, after all.

Soon Mairéad Solus Mairéad Solus burst into the room and made the pronouncement the bodyguards had yet to. Quite inefficient of them, but they were no doubt in shock.

Nyx unplugged from the terminal and turned to follow after the woman. Red eyes surveyed the interior and noted the 'safe room' the offender had undoubtedly been concealed in to take Dedate by surprise. The droid moved into the chamber and circled around to the entity bereft of limbs. Mai had Dedata well in hand, after all. And in a few moments well in limb too. Naturally, Nyx did not feel the Force connection, but she presumed there was a logical motive behind the embrace -- one aside from refusal to acknowledge Dedata was grievously wounded.

" Saraiya Darkstar Saraiya Darkstar ," Nyx announced, "please see if you can lift this entity." The limbless one.

Meanwhile, she reached over to retrieve the spike that Dedata had drawn attention to earlier. Perhaps it would be better to leave this behind. Their position was under attack, and now they would need to transport not one but two inseparable forms through the chaos. That meant Nyx wouldn't have time to oversee the purge personally.

After securing the spike, Nyx made a brief stop by the laboratory's computer before she made for the system connected to the network. Dedata would be most upset if they saved her, but failed to delete the data. Nyx was only carrying out the woman's will by inserting the spike into the system.

The droid then tapped into the comms, <"One friendly down. Second friendly incapacitated. Team Hunter, I will convey them if your choice is to walk out of here through the enemy's line."> After all, Nyx possessed a significant degree of strength and wasn't part of the group's offensive line. It seemed only reasonable. ( Kardek Alpha Kardek Alpha | Jenzid Channsalj Jenzid Channsalj )

"The two of you," Nyx said as she strode back into the lab, "will assist Team Hunter in keeping hostiles from shooting us." Red eyes glowed as they fixed on Kilo and Tera. Any attempt at complaint or attempt to claim they would carry both Mai and Dedata would be met with Nyx's silent stare. Foolishness would not abide. She was the logical choice.
