OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: The Primyn Group | The Sith Order
  • Affiliation: The Sith Order | Closed-Market
    • NB! Primarily meant for PCs, should be treated as a Semi-Unique & Closed-Market for the purposes of inclusion in other submissions, whether they are technologies, unit submissions (size capped at a dozen or less as per Codex rules) or individual NPCs.
  • Model: Empyrean Gland
  • Modularity: Can be spliced with genetic material from the intended recipient to reduce the risk of rejection.
  • Production: Limited
  • Material: Bioengineered and Alchemically-altered Ysalamiri Tissue
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Internal Organ
  • Size: Very Small
  • Weight: Very Light
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Empyrean Glands are grown within the Netherworld of the Force using bioengineered tissue prepared in realspace; once sufficiently matured they are alchemically altered to retain and sustain a spark of that strange realm, returned to realspace, and altered further still until they become a tangible link to that realm and by extension the Force. A fully-developed specimen is then surgically implanted into a Force Sensitive subject or, in rare cases, Force Sensitive tissue - given the small area covered, the latter is usually impractical.
    • The spark of Netherworld energies held within these glands is merely a sympathetic link, not a gateway.
STRENGTHS
  • Sphere of Power: Empyrean Glands block out the influence of creatures and items that would interfere with one's ability to use the Force within oneself and within a one-metre aura surrounding one's body - no more, no less.
WEAKNESSES
  • Close and Personal: Empyrean Glands have no effect outside their small one-metre aura - it is possible to launch Force Lightning at, say, a Ysalamir-carrying Mandalorian, but unless you're within a metre of them it will simply fizzle out upon striking their bubble.
  • Under the Knife: Empyrean Glands only function if able to bond with Force Sensitive tissue, most commonly a Sith of some kind.
  • Impersonal: Within its small radius, anyone can use the Force without interference, including enemies and Force Sensitive beasts.
DESCRIPTION
There were plenty of Jedi and Sith out there who were capable enough without the Force at their side... but Darth Prospero was not one of them. Having been all but neutralised more than once from simply being within a Ysalamir's accursed presence, the Sith Lord had finally had enough. Initially attempting to create
a more conventional Sith Talisman, a lack of replicable results forced him back to the drawing board.

Opting for a completely different approach, the Sith Lord began to experiment with biological alternatives derived primarily from heavily-altered Ysalamiri tissue, alternatives which were infused with energy drawn from the Netherworld following his
guided explorations of that strange realm.

Initial results were able to empower a Force User but not completely block out the interference generated by Ysalamiri and the like; causing no small number of side effects, this approach too was deemed unviable - though not before generating the spark of inspiration needed for the final product.

Rather than infusing the bioengineered tissue with unstable energies drawn from the Nether, these final glands were allowed to mature within the Nether itself, leading to a much more stable connection; by strangling this connection until but the faintest spark remained, the risk of dimensional incidents was reduced to an all but negligible level without compromising its ability to stabilise a Force User's connection in the face of interference.

As with any inclusion of foreign tissue into a living body, there exists the chance of rejection or other complications, though in most cases these organs are partially spliced with genetic samples taken from the intended host, minimising both the risk of rejection and the potential for "reuse".

This is pretty solid, nice to see it coming back around. Anti Force Negation is a rare thing to see and a solid take.

THE GOOD
You gave good limitations and balance.

THE BAD
Bioengineered and Alchemically-altered Ysalamiri Tissue
You mention the ysalamiri tissue here but in your description don't say it is used (there is mention of wanting to counter it and the idea) If you could add it.

Ysalamiri skin and tissue losings it effects once it leaves the body of a living species. A good example is Miriskin. What if any benefits came from using that specific material if it would have lost its capabilities once away from a living specimen?

The production for it if you could add a stipulation of PC's only. A limited production means minor faction or group within a major and having npc's running around without hard numbers can leave the chance for abuse.

While we are in star wars and surgery is much easier. Transplanted organs would and should still have a risk of rejection. I would want to see the chance there with minimization efforts able to be taken.

What does the void stone have to do with the sb? Or is it there for extra-dimensional effects as a citation?

And that is everything for now. Let me know when edits have been made or if you have questions.

Alrighty then, I'll go point by point.
  1. "You mention the ysalamiri tissue here but in your description don't say it is used (there is mention of wanting to counter it and the idea) If you could add it."
    1. Added to the description's second paragraph, though it's really meant as flavour more than anything else.
  2. "Ysalamiri skin and tissue losings it effects once it leaves the body of a living species. A good example is Miriskin. What if any benefits came from using that specific material if it would have lost its capabilities once away from a living specimen?"
    1. That is exactly why the organ is alive, as opposed to, say, a Talisman; the article on Ysalamiri is pretty damn on how exactly they do what they do and even what that is, beyond "Ysalamiri did not actually negate the Force; since all existence was infused with Force energy,[4] this would not be possible. Rather, they projected a bubble inside which users were unable to exert any influence over the Force." [Source: Wookiepedia] In short, the assumption is that genetic material harvested from Ysalamiri served as a foundation of sorts which, when spliced with various other sources and altered through alchemical means, produces an effect that is, in a way, the opposite of its original source.
    2. How exactly does the above work? Who knows, I can't really explain it in depth without doing the same to what they're countering, and what they're countering has largely been left intentionally vague in Canon and Legends alike. Not that Canon has as many examples.
  3. "The production for it if you could add a stipulation of PC's only. A limited production means minor faction or group within a major and having npc's running around without hard numbers can leave the chance for abuse."
    1. Good point - having them be plentiful (even amongst the Sith) was never my intent, though I would like to retain the ability to include them for individual/small groups of NPCs or weird science projects. Is my attempt at a disclaimer reasonable? I specifically made it so that it is more strict than the Codex rules about unit size for Force Users (they could not, for instance, be used by Darth Carnifex Darth Carnifex 's Crownguards) and that I need to personally grant permission for every non-PC use.
  4. "While we are in star wars and surgery is much easier. Transplanted organs would and should still have a risk of rejection. I would want to see the chance there with minimization efforts able to be taken."
    1. Added to the bottom of the description, but since this isn't exactly something easily accessible to the common consumers, whoever is influential and/or Wealthy with a capital W enough to afford one also likely has access to some of the best healthcare in the galaxy, a galaxy where replacing limbs is easy peasy and replacing most of your body with machinery is a viable option for sickly rich people.
  5. "What does the void stone have to do with the sb? Or is it there for extra-dimensional effects as a citation?"
    1. Citation only, but to be clear this submission affects Voidstone (which seems to be interpreted as a material, not an artefact, on Chaos. See e.g. Earl's voidstone bullets.) too - it blocks out interference such as Ysalamiri, Voidstone and such (not that I know of any other things that do the same), but naturally does exactly nothing against issues with the Force itself (say, the Netherworld crisis) or the Force Users ability (say, if they were to make use of Type 1 Adekon Nanogene or be the target of some finger-waggling Sorcery that cuts them off from the Force somehow).
That should be it - no questions for now, beyond a few in the above, most prominently as pertains to non-PC use.
