Dominion Rise of the Eternal Fleet - Part 3: Conquest of Lorta (Eternal Empire Dominion of Lorta)

"Acknowledged." Xiphos said to Aximand Sicarus Aximand Sicarus , immediately ordering the Alyosha-Series Star Destroyers to the left flank.

The high tech warships advanced on the left flank, guns zeroing in on Lortan. Her powers allowing her to sense all its inner workings, the hum of its powerful reactor, the electricity powering it's special turbolasers

They began to take hits. The Shielding was holding excellently however, against that of the Lortans. She held off on firing for the moment too much, the ship A.I. letting off a burst from her Electric Turbolasers when she asked it to. The ships point defense sniping lasers engaged Lortan fighters, the Electric Turbolasers began increasing their volleys of deadly high voltage Turbolaser bolts, trying to draw as much enemy aggression as possible to make it easier for the Admiral to execute his own attacks to get more hits in on the Lortan Fleet.

"Admiral Sicarus, we are in position. Awaiting further instructions." Xiphos signalled, her destroyers launching more and more salvos on the Lortan Fleet.

Meanwhile...

Whoever he was, he was good.

The Amalgam couldn't enter his mind, and trying to choke or poison him wasn't working. He seemed to have an inbuilt resistance to the Force. She had tried frying him with lightning, but the pink furry suit he wore seemed to have an electrical capacitance shield built in.

She had tried to be sneaky. She had rendered herself invisible, and tried to flank him, but he had wheeled around at the last moment and riddled her with forty-five caliber bullets from a handgun.

Her body leaked white blood out from the bullet wounds as she staggered back, drawing on her hatred to remain standing as he roundhouse kicked her into surrounding debris.

Now in the grip of an intense Force Rage she sprang up, intent on tearing him limb from limb. The Furry Assassin unslung a Vibrosword from a sheath on his back.

"Okay..." The Amalgam snarled. "What's with The Furry Suit?"

The Furry Assassin said nothing, merely angling his Vibrosword.

The next few seconds were them striking and slashing viciously at each other, The Furry Assassin matching her blow for blow, to her surprise, and even managing to gash open her belly slightly, spilling out rotted yellow entrails slightly, eliciting a metallic shriek of hatred from her as she redoubled her efforts, striking in chaotic patterns of stabs and slashes.

The air was smacked out of her lungs by a shotgun blast from another attacker, sending her flying. An Assassin, wearing a green Furry suit that made him look like a tiger, held a double barrel shotgun.

She scrambled up and was knocked back down, this time by a secondary blast to her chest this one completely destroying part of her rib cage. As she was in the grips of a Force Rage to keep going, she couldn't use any other power except Force Drain. But the real bad news was what kind of ammunition she had been shot with.

Glass Shotgun slugs, filled with ball bearings at the center. Her body armor was good, but this was too much even for it.

The glass had splintered up in her body, depositing thousands of fragments of glass on the inside, meaning every movement she made damaged her organs even more, and caused more blood loss. Even with her rage, she was starting to become aware of the catastrophic damage that had been done to her body.

She needed to get away now. Buy time.

She expertly dodged another shotgun blast and took off running at Superhuman speeds, the Furry Assassins in hot pursuit...

The void lit up as turbolasers and cannon bolts zoomed from ship to ship, blasting against shields and hulls. The two Demeton cruisers were right in the thick of it, their shields working hard to keep the ships safe while the crews within performed their duties as best they could. Their zealotry and passion kept them focused, when fear was gripping at their hearts in the shadow of the enormous star destroyers and battlecruisers. One of the cruisers, aptly named the "Spear", rammed directly into another ship upon exiting the microjump, and the weapons onboard didn't waste a second to fire at point blank range upon the weakened sister ship. Its shields and structure took a beating, but it didn't do much to stop it from continuing to fight.

The other cruiser, the "Gusta", continued with its route among the Eternal ships, firing at the Coda-class frigates and other Demeton, while its shields continued to try and keep the ship safe against the constant bombardment. It was painfully obvious that they wouldn't be able to hold up against the overwhelming firepower...

But they didn't have to. At least not yet...

4EDSItz.gif

"Our cruisers are outmatched." One of the officers onboard the "Wrath" spoke up, causing Jas to glance at his monitor. "It's time. Dey are bunched up." The captain of the battlecruiser said as he glanced at the mercenary officer. "Launch 'em, focus fire on those artillery cruisers." He ordered, the captain of the battlecruiser grinning like a maniac as he looked at his gunnery officer, also grinning like a maniac. They all knew what was coming.

"Spring da trap! Fire sunbeams!" He roared. In a matter of moments, all-out anarchy erupted around the battlefield as dozens of dirt cheap heavy freighters emerged from either side of the Eternal Fleet's line. Crewed by suicidal zealots and droids, the freighters were packed to the gills with as much explosive materials as they could carry. Their objective was disastrously simple, all they needed to do was ram their enemy and cause as much damage as possible.

The two Demeton Cruisers broke off their attack on the right flank and dove beneath the line, still continuing to fire. To make matters worse, two more Conqueror-class Star Destroyers, with full hangars, emerged from hyperspace along the rear of the line. Turbolasers, mass driver cannons and ion cannons let loose on both Aximand Sicarus Aximand Sicarus and Katherin DuPorcelen Katherin DuPorcelen with no restriction, while Accipiter- and Meteor-class fighters emerged to pelt any starfighters and smaller ships.

The chaos came to a crescendo as the Solar Ion cannons onboard the "Wrath" let loose, each one targeting the two artillery battlecruisers of Aximand Sicarus Aximand Sicarus at full power. "Vorwaartdz! Push in!" The captain of the "Wrath" barked, and the main line moved in with guns blazing, prepared to meet their enemy head-on. The Grievous-class Star Destroyers on either flank focused their fire on protecting the flanks along with their escorts.

Shields were straining under the fire, but they held up. The Lortan Armada was unleashed, and determined to beat back their oppressors with turbolasers and sheer ferocity.

His arms rested behind his back as the view port continued to light up with explosions and the turbolaser light show. Black eyes glistened as he could feel the fear, the passion, and the anger on all sides. Slowly he breathed in through his nose and released it through his mouth. It was like a drug to be honest. It took constant battle to keep the dark side from consuming and destroying. This was the way of the world. Only the strong could walk the true path after all.

He felt the battle as it pounded in his mind, allowed himself to explore its complexities, the ebb and flow. It did not feel right. Something was hidden just out of sight. "Keep a loose formation still. Do not cluster but allow for fields of fire to overlap. Be wary."

After he gave his instructions, the comm burst to life as Admiral Sicarus gave his instructions. His fingers hit a switch and he commed to the Logistic. "Captain. You may fire when ready." The switch was flipped back down as he watched. The Logistic ever so slightly corrected itself, then as it aimed for one of Jas Katis Jas Katis 's Murkhana frigates, the Star Destroyer's main gun, the massive "Trinity" proton pulse cannon opened fire. The powerful bolt of energy slashed out into the darkness as it made its way towards the frigate with great speed. It attempted to utterly grind the much smaller frigate into space particles. "All ships, stay in formation, we are moving!" Slowly the ships moved towards the left flank of the enemy lines.

Long range turbo lasers and mass drivers opened fire on the enemy fleet, determined to blast them into submission. Around the edges of the Commodore's flotilla the smaller ships gathered. The mine layer laid a defensive line behind the massive ships, to make it difficult for enemy fighters to sneak behind. The fighters only ventured from their patrol lines to intercept incoming enemy fighters.

However, that was when everything went wrong. Several Star Destroyers came from behind, dozens of large freighters followed. Then they watched as the solar ionization cannons opened fire. A trap. Well now, wasn't that interesting. His eyes narrowed as swarms of fighters aimed towards the rear of the fleet. "Fighters, intercept, but do not stray to far from the battle lines. Remember your missions."

Then with an outstretched arm, he pointed at one of the Grievous Star Destroyers that defended the flank line. Whatever was about to happen, they had to push through. "All ships, open fire upon that star destroyer! All missiles, aim and use dead fire. Long range guns, let 'em have it. Bombers, prepare for run." The Oblong and the Descent moved closer towards the front to allow their long-range batteries to open up. The Logistic's main gun began to charge once more. However, it wouldn't allow itself to be outdone. It's hyper velocity cannons and heavy turbolasers lashed out as well. The three Demetons also unleashed their fire power upon the Grievious as well. The rays of death sprang forth as the Flotilla unleashed its power.

Location: Right Flank of the formation made by Battlegroup Stygian abaord ENS Requiem
Objective: 1

Her ships fired on the Lortan's main line across the void until the two cruisers the Lortans threw at the imperial fleet made their way down to where her ships were. The Stygian ships took quite the pounding, and it was time for the 13'th to brace for impact. From her seat, she personally came on the comms ordering, "Gunners of the 13'th Assault Line and Requiem! Fire close range volleys on the Dematons coming our way down the line, and focus majority of fire on them. Hold remaining charges for any other microjumps."
With the gunners sounding off in response, Katherin went on the comms again, "Vessels on port side! Prepare bombers for a run on the Dematons when they get closer."
The others sounded off again.

The Dematons remained on their course, with one ramming a Stygian ship to Katherin's surprise and frustration. The shields were what kept most damage from coming through from what reports coming in were saying. Under her respirator-mask, a sinsiter grin krept across her face with it only showing in her seemingly florescent eyes.
"Gunners! Have the shield disruptor cannons and and starshot cannons integrate into the close volleys from Requiem. Maintain the turbolaser volleys as well. Perhaps we could finally get through those shields."
"Integrating shild disruptor cannons and starshot cannons into close range volleys. Copy."

The sonic blasts from the starshot cannons rang out across the void while the shield disruptor cannons sent waves of energy towards the Dematons. All the while, the mass-driver and turbolaser volleys maintained on the Demanotns making their way down the right flank. The frontmost Dematon made its way to the 13'th's location, and almost symultaneously, the bombers swarmed out from the cruisers and star destroyers on the port side of the formation the Dematons were coming from. However, that was when things turned for the worst as ships came in from behind and to the starboard side of Scourge's formation.

The cheap ships were flinging themselves at the starboard side of the formation. Katherin's eyes went wide with horror.
"Vessels on starboard side! Focus all fire on the ships on course to our formation, and have fighter and interceptor squadrons deploy towards them as well."
"Focusing fire on incoming ships, and deploying squadrons. Copy."

The mass-driver and turbolaser volley shot out at the incoming freighters. The star-destroyers that jumped behind the fleet and opened all possible fire onto all parts of the line. The shields held for now, but her fire was split between the incoming Dematons and freighters. Her only hope for that was that the remainder of Stygian would open fire behind the line. The situation was too tenuous for her liking. The Lortans were smart enough to put them in a trap, however her hopes were pinned on if their zealotry and aggression will get the better of them. That they will break themselves to make it easier for the imperials to break them.

She then turned her gaze to the comms worker.
"Comms! Send a message to ENS Tiberius. Tell Admiral Sicarus that the 13'th Assautl Line and ENS Requiem awaits orders, and will hold position until then. We have opened fire on the Dematons and the incoming vessels from starboard of the right flank."
She then sat there while the comms worker sent the message.

The Tiberius rumbled as the pair of Conqueror-class Star Destroyers emerged from lightspeed behind the Imperial line and their armaments unleashed upon her and Admiral DuPorcelen’s flagship. Aximand lurched along with the ship, and aside from being rocked rather vigorously, remained standing despite the barrage. The tactical officer was quick about issuing a status report: ”Shields are holding strong at 80-percent, admiral. We have a little bit of bleed through to the armor, but thus far hull integrity is strong.”

”Good.” He responded, clasping his hands behind his back. At least that was one thing not to worry about in the flurry of things currently happening in quick succession. His command display “erupted” in an array of indicators washing across the tactical map. Dozens of smaller craft appeared on scanners, approaching from either side of the Imperial formation. The Eternal Fleet did not need to know what was within them - standard protocol in a combat scenario mandated that any unidentified ship be treated as hostile unless identified otherwise. Within moments, the void on either side of the formation would erupt in flak fire from the combined picket lines of the Ashkelon-frigates and Disruptor corvettes. Many of the freighters would likely meet a gruesome end, particularly along the Eternal-left flank, where the formation had been comparatively unmolested the entire engagement. Whatever freighter that may survive the flak bombardment would also be intercepted by squadrons of Haxor interceptors patrolling the engagement zone, yet even then - it would not fully eliminate the threat, particularly along the right flank. Although it had enough flak coverage to make a dent in the suicide run, most of the fighters in the area were busy engaging the rogue Demeton cruisers or engaging the Lortan fighters.

Four freighters in particular made it through on the right; two made a bee-line for the ENS Retribution, who continued battering away at the fleeing rogue Demeton cruisers with her massive octuple barbette batteries. The pair of freighters impacted hard against her shields, causing her to lurch violently and suffer not-insignificant shield and armor damage, but otherwise remain unaffected given her size and defensive capabilities. One broke through to the Eternal-class Star Destroyer dubbed the Vikarion as well, which met a similar fate and had a similar effect. The same could not be said for the freighter that impacted into the ill-fated ENS Braccus.

She had served in several major campaigns within the Eternal Fleet - she fought against the Galactic Alliance during the Stygian Campaign; she was among the ships used in the ‘Compliance of Orellon II’, held the line against the bioships of the Brynadul, squared off against the renegade ships of the Confederacy who took up arms alongside the Mandalorian Enclave, and had exchanged volleys against the warships of the Brotherhood of the Maw. Despite her impressive service record, today was the day the Braccus would die.

Her shields had already been battered down to below twenty percent due to the incessant barrages raking her broadside by the passing Spear, and her armor had suffered several breaches across the majority of her service decks. Her reinforced bulkheads groaned from the strain of the trauma inflicted upon her; so much so, that her Captain ordered for all crewmen to head to the nearest escape pods. It was shortly after that, when the freighter broke through and plunged itself straight into one of the larger breaches. When the freighter impacted, its explosives soon followed, which caused a massive chain reaction within the vessel. A handful of escape pods and shuttles were able to rush out of the hangar decks before she ruptured, sending a blast wave through the void which would likely affect the renegade Demetons as they attempted to reposition below the fleet.

The destruction of one of his more well known and decorated warships visibly angered Aximand, but he otherwise remained stoic and in control of his emotions. After a moment’s pause, he turned to Commodore Einar:
”Deploy the second fighter wing. Bring down these flankers immediately!” Commodore Einar issued the orders, with hundreds more fighters joining the void-space around the fleet. The Lancers would join the previously deployed escorts in intercepting the fighters deployed near their rear, as well as in escorting the other sections of the line for fear of an impending fighter deployment from the main line. The Haxor Interceptors would join the fray as well, massing in a formation to screen for the Hornet Bombers, which divided into two groups. The first arrayed themselves into an attack formation against the Conquerer star destroyers, while the other half pursued the Demetons per Aximand’s orders, along with the surviving Demeton Cruiser and duo of Codas, with the Retribution providing ranged support.

Two Eternal-class Star Destroyers; the Vicarion & Bastion would break away from the forward assault, articulating their broadsides to face the Conquerers who attempted to approach from the rear; with support from two additional Coda Frigates; namely the ENS Brutor & Macabre. Under orders from Aximand himself, the Tiberius would specifically redirect their firepower to the Star Destroyers as well, leaving the remaining two artillery battlecruisers to anchor the forward assault alongside the remaining star destroyers and cruisers.

While these maneuvers were taking place, highly concentrated Solar-Ion volleys streaked through the void, aimed at the aforementioned artillery battlecruisers who kept up the pressure. Little did the Lortans know, that this would be a major flaw in the throes of their bloodlust. By virtue of their state of the art shield array, which included an intricate and robust cluster of shield hardeners and receptors, the solar-ion beams would be intercepted by the specially attuned layer of shielding designed for just that specific purpose. It would not prevent any damage from being done of course, but rather the shielding would prevent the solar-ion beams from fully ignoring the ship’s shielding in the first place; instead allowing the shield to tank the brunt of the impact on its own.

This did not prevent the armor from taking some damage of course, as the energy beams washed across the outer hulls of the ships’ robust armor plating. But this was not the worst part of the misstep. The molecular shielding of the array kicked in upon impact, allowing for the array to harvest some of the energy and pump it back into the energy grid of both battlecruisers. Their commanding officers were of the same mind, as they directed the majority of the power to their weapon systems - thus intensifying the bombardment being applied to the main battle line from the full complement of their capital weapons. The remaining star destroyers and cruisers alongside of them focused fire upon the same targets as the battlecruisers, with the main line continuing its assault upon the Lortan-right flank.

As his own ship unleashed upon the Conquerer Star Destroyers along with the small detachments of star destroyers and frigates, Aximand eyed his fellow commanders’ progress on his tactical map. Within moments, reports began filing in.
”Admiral, DuPorcelen’s forces are in position alongside our flanking force. Lady Crownwraithe and Commodore Tyth'xio are reporting similar states of readiness.”

As the bridge rumbled from the barrages it was effecting upon the Conquerers, as well as the impacts of return fire, Aximand remained the image of stoic resolve as he ordered:[/color] ”Commence the attack.”

Upon the orders being given, Battlegroup Stygian’s flanking force emerged from around the moon, loosing a volley of missile fire upon the Lortan-right flank as it formed into an attack pattern; conscious to move in concert with Admiral DuPorcelen’s forces, bobbing and weaving to avoid return fire that may well be sent their way.

To any observers, it would appear as though the battle had transitioned into full swing - with all fronts being engaged in a full scale offensive from the Eternal Fleet against the main Lortan line, along with containment operations against the Lortan flankers. The tension began to mount, even as Aximand knew well the battle remained in his favor. Although he remained confident and outwardly resolute, in the back of his mind, the Admiral mused upon what further surprises the Lortans may have had up their sleeve. Time would tell, but thus far, the Eternal Fleet remained solidly positioned.

  • The surprise attack of the freighters is largely contained by the positioning of the Ashkelon and Disruptor pickets, who effectively displace the majority of them with flak bombardment and point defenses, with the escort fighters previously deployed intercepting the survivors on the left flank.
  • Four freighters survive on the right, causing moderate damage to the Callides and Vikarian, and ultimately destroying the Braccus
  • The surviving vessels on the right flank, namely the (2) Codas (The Dreigo & Salika), (1) surviving Demeton (the Rupture) and (1) Callides-Heavy Carrier (The Retribution) engage the repositioning Demeton Cruisers with focused firepower.
  • The Vikarian & Bastion (Eternal Class SDs) turn to engage the Conquerer-class SDs alongside (2) Codas (Macabre & Brutor) and the Tiberius (Aximand’s Flagship)
  • The apocalypse-class battlecruisers tank the solar-ion beams to a certain extent, taking a mixture of moderate shield damage and light armor damage and converting the energy via their molecular shield array.
  • Aximand gives the order for all forces to begin their assault, with his flanking detachment leading the charge along with Admiral DuPorcelen.

Objective: Follow the ball of light and survive
Tag: Wysp Wysp

This had to be the strangest thing that happened to him. Zalan was trudging through the muck of the planet, blasting baddies and trying to cause a distraction with his troops. Then, suddenly, this humming ball of light came flying by, and he had been following it. Honestly, it had led him through various paths, but each one had led around a deadly ambush, sniper position or the like. While his armor was caked in mud and dirt, he wasn't complaining. Each trap bypassed, allowed him to take out an unseen danger that threatened the main group.

His rifle was held tightly as he passed through a rocky crevasse barely able to squeeze through. However, on the other side, the light flashed behind a group of waiting Lortan soldiers. His rifle raised up, and he squeezed the trigger. The bright red bolts splashed against the backs of the unsuspecting ambushers, and they fell one by one, before they even had a chance to react. Off to the side another Lortan patrol moved towards the sound, and he dove behind the rocks as green death was returned. He stuck his blaster out, so anyway, he started blasting and with pure luck managed to clip most of them. Finally, he rushed out, tackled one of them to the ground and shot his face off. It was epic if he did say so himself.

The soldier desperately tried to catch his breath as he got back up and began to run into the trees and rocks once more. The light seemed to have patiently waited for him, so who was he to ignore it's help? Each moment brought him closer to some unknown death, he felt. However, the sound of his approaching unit kept him going. Better to die trying than to allow his friends to get caught up in whatever this madness was.

Objective: Lead this soldier guy so he makes the area safe for Kalic
Tag: Kalic Daws Kalic Daws Zalan Luca Zalan Luca
Wysp was simply having fun on this planet. War waged all around, and those Lortan people kept trying to shoot at it! It wasn't fun! I mean, maybe it was. But, anyway, it was more fun to lead this eager soldier around so he could do his whole soldier thing and shoot the guys who wanted to shoot Wysp. It was much more efficient than trying to do it itself, after all. This guy was pretty good at this whole shooting people thing. Now, Kalic was on his way down, but Wysp had well, been slacking. It was depressing. Kinda, sorta, maybe? It was complicated!

After Zalan's last particularly heroic feat, Wysp proverbially clapped its hands. Then it proceeded to lead the soldier on a wide circle around a ginormous tree! It flittered here, it flittered there, much like a hyper teddy bear. But each place it floated an enemy was about to pop out. It had to warn the guy somehow. And frankly, as much as it liked the guy who shot all his enemies, the soldier was still an Eternal Empire soldier. Those guys had hurt Kalic! So, it didn't want to talk to them!

As three more soldiers popped out of the rocks and trees the soldier guy faithfully shot them down. It was inspiring. Wysp really needed to learn how to use a gun one day. Like, really. Anyway. Each moment led them closer and closer to the prison area where that one guy Kalic wanted to rescue was located. So far so good. But how to keep getting this soldier to do all the hard work?

They moved into the light; a grand sight stood before them. It was a few dozen Lortan soldiers and a turret. But if they could make it passed here, then it would be clear for Kalic too.

As they rounded the tree, the soldier continued his path. With each squeeze of the trigger, another Lortan down. It's like for some reason, this light ball knew just where to go to allow him to go behind the enemy. He wondered if he had been hit earlier on and was simply making all this up in a dying hallucination. However, for now he operated under the assumption he was in fact still sane, and this was really happening.

He came to a skidding stop however, as they reached the clearing. A credit to his training he did not hesitate. A fragmentation grenade was thrown at the Turret operator, and with one hand, pressing the butt of the weapon into his armored shoulder, he began to open fire at the gathered men. Once more, they all seemed to be ready for an attack from the opposite direction. Blaster after blast took down several of them, and the explosion sent the turret operator flying in the air. The armored ultranaut got hit in the leg and arm as they turned and tried to respond. He dove towards some rocks as the pain scorched through him. The blaster fire rained upon him like hell fire.

This was probably the end. However, when the moment felt lost, fire erupted from the opposite direction, and in a fell swoop took out the remaining Lortan soldiers. With a groan the ultranaut raised his arms and stood from cover as his squad came out of the forest. His eyes searched for the glowing ball of light. But it was no where to be seen. His squad rushed to him, helped him with his injuries. But he couldn't honestly answer what had happened, but the trail of bodies he had left behind showed it had indeed happened. They patted his back, told him that was how it was done. Still, as he was carted off, he wondered: What had all that been about?

Objective: Turn off the anti-air weapons so Kalic can land
Tag: Zalan Luca Zalan Luca Kalic Daws Kalic Daws
Wysp didn't honestly feel much as the soldier got hit. But it was still quite happy when the Lortan soldiers were killed off, and the soldier rescued. He had been fun after all. As the soldiers cleared out this bastion of the enemy camp, Wysp flitted down and grabbed the keycard from the commander's dead body. This was what it had needed. A key. With all speed, the little ball of light sped off into the darkness and headed towards another campsite it had cleared out previously using other means.

It approached the computer terminal and pushed the keycard into the slot with an "Oof!" After this, it popped into its avatar form and banged the buttons, all the buttons! It only half knew what it was doing at any given time anyway. It closed its eyes and reached into its memories. Right, turn off the anti-air weaponry, let the freighter land. How do I do that Joe? Memories flashed through its mind, and it pressed several buttons with its small hands. A beep acknowledged that the areas anti-air defenses were turned off.

It floated itself over to a nearby comm system, grabbed the command pad, inputted the correct set of frequencies and encryptions. It imitated a voice as best as it could. It was much easier to use telepathy, but luckily it could shape shift. It utilized this. "Big Boss, you are cleared." It sent the pass phrase to its friend. Kalic would understand. It was time to do this thing!

OBJECTIVE: BYOO - Consolidation of Power
LOCATION: Kalidan, STRATCOM Headquarters
TAG: Open

Far and away from the action in orbit around Lorta, Overseer Reinhardt Ström stood in front of a series of screens deep within the tactical wing of the STRATCOM headquarters. The room was filled with clusters of computer terminals manned by junior staff, with several massive viewscreens covering the opposing wall from the entrance in which he stood. A diverse array of data scrolled through the screens - from tactical deployment across the Hyperspace War Theater in the galactic north, offensive progress reports from the Outer Rim Campaign, casualty rolls and recruitment totals all at the disposal of the officers in the room. The Baron was focused on one terminal he strode up to in particular, looking over the shoulder of a lieutenant proof reading live status reports from Battlegroup Stygian, which was currently engaged against Lortan extremists on the outskirts of their home system.

Thus far, the battle appeared to be commencing admirably, despite unexpectedly stalwart defenses. Rear Admiral Aximand Sicarus was in command of the operation, with Admiral DuPorcelain serving as support. The Baron had every confidence that they would not fail him - particularly with the Empress herself deployed on the planet to oversee the ground operation. While that fact had increased his anxiety to a certain degree (despite the fact the Baron was not a man given to bouts of anxiety), her insistence to involve herself in the operation was to his benefit nonetheless. It allowed him a certain freedom of movement to begin the next phase of his plan to usurp the title of Despot from Fa'arkhan. He glanced at an antique pocket chronometer housed within the pockets of his jacket, then patted the Lieutenant on the back as he said: "Keep me apprised of the Lortan offensive with regular updates every thirty minutes, starting at 1000 (read 'ten hundred') hours."

The Lieutenant nodded dutifully, after which Ström patted the officer on the back, and turned to leave the intelligence room. He had an appointment to keep, and the guest he was to entertain was not a man he wanted to keep waiting, despite his own personal station. This individual was a person that would serve a key role in the Baron's aspirations to ascend the Imperial Hierarchy - he just didn't know it yet. The Overseer made his way to his office, which was kept near the top floor of the STRATCOM Main Building within the complex. The time passed slowly and rather mundanely as he made his way through the intricate security checkpoints and intentionally ponderous routes through the facility. Even with his top-level security clearance, it still took time to physically move through each area. Eventually, he found himself riding the dedicated express lift which ascended up to his office.

Soon enough, the lift stopped and the doors parted, revealing a sparsely decorated - but no less stately office adorned with natural wood wall panels and hand-etched trim. A debonair figure stood at the receiving desk near his office entrance, appearing to be a young but not inexperienced Nelvaan/Human hybrid, who carried himself with a casual ease and confidence. He wore a stately three piece suit, and had an air about him of someone of relatively high stock in Imperial Society. The Overseer nodded at his receptionist, and gave the figure a firm handshake before leading him into the office.

Once the door was closed behind them, the Baron took his place on the interior-side of a rather large desk, which sat in front of a recessed book case housing hundreds of volumes and texts from both Kalidan, and the Baron's homeworld of Sondheim. Sound disruptors silently engaged to prevent recording or eavesdropping - a feature the Baron insisted be added upon his ascention to office, under the guise of securing valuable military intel (which, in truth, was not a total guise despite his intent for personal use as well). He extended a hand to his guest to offer him the seat opposite of him, of which the man accepted gratefully.
"I am pleased you were able to meet with me on such short notice." Reinhardt began, leaning back in his chair as he unbuttoned his coat and placed it upon a hook near his seat before finally resting within it. The young man nodded and responded with a broad smile.

"When one receives an invitation from an Imperial Overseer, it is not an honor such a person could easily pass up." His accent was definitively Imperial, containing the slick-sweet tenor of someone educated within the Imperial colleges from childhood. Ström responded with a faint but noticeable smile, which usually meant he was either putting on a front, or was impressed by someone. At this stage, either scenario was equally possible. The Baron leaned back in his chair and inspected his guest for a few moments before speaking again. Little could be ascertained by sight alone, as the young man before him met his gaze with an equal measure of confidence and awareness; as if he knew that Ström was trying to size him up.

If his memory was correct, Ström had never met an agent of the Blackwatch personally; he instead had been the beneficiary of a few bodyguards provided by the Empress on Dromund Kaas. But those were typical Psy Corps agents, whereas this man before him was a different breed entirely. According to his dossier, he was a member of a deep cover division of Blackwatch, tasked with high profile and sensitive missions that required a delicate but effective touch. He was reportedly among the best, and it showed.

After deciding it was not to his benefit to delay any further, Ström produced a small pouch from within his desk and handed it to the agent.
"You are familiar with the necessary details of the mission, yes?"

"The long and short of it, yes" the agent quickly responded. "I am to take this data chip and plant it within a computer mainframe known to be used by a cell of extremists on Lanteeb, then infiltrate the planetary administration building to access the records of the planet's interstellar travel manifests and establish an uplink via the address you've given me."

"Correct. And of course, the Empire thanks you for your discretion in this matter. We suspect this cell has potentially penetrated STRATCOM, which is why your involvement was requested." A lie. A complete lie of course, but one no less. The good thing about lies though, is they possessed a certain level of power and finality when uttered by the right person, in the right position, in the right context. The very nature of Blackwatch assignments necessitated secrecy and discretion to the point where this operation would likely never be spoken of again.

After the very brief exchange, the Baron rose from his seat and extended a hand to the young man, who in turn accepted it and shook it firmly.
"Thank you for your service, Agent Cirrus. Naturally, this mission never happened."

To be continued...

Upon receiving the go ahead from Aximand Sicarus Aximand Sicarus , Xiphos ordered the ships to press forward, all fighters were launched in both Defensive Swarms that would harass attacking fighters as well as antagonize other, larger vessels. But Xiphos had her eye on those Artillery Battle Cruisers.

The A.I. aboard the ship began plotting a firing trajectory as her ships pressed the attack, their Seismic Energy Torpedo System locking on to a Battle Cruiser.

Two minutes before firing, a heavily encrypted burst transmission was sent to Sicarus's flagship as well as that of Katherin DuPorcelen Katherin DuPorcelen and Tyth'xio Tyth'xio as to estimated detonation radius and impact point as a single battlecruiser was targeted. The Electric Turbolasers sent bright white bolts of super condensed electrical energy lancing through the Darkness, aimed at the smaller enemy ships, however, one of Xiphos's vessels had taken a significant beating to the shields, leading to the A.I. on the ship making it hang back while it's shield could recover somewhat.

Then, she gave the order to fire, but only when she knew there would be no Eternal Empire vessels anywhere near the blast. She was extremely paranoid about that and had run the field calculations thrice over to be certain when the Torpedoes fired they wouldn't gib anybody from The Eternal Empire.

The white Energy Torpedos were dumb fired in a limited volley at the artillery battle cruiser, four to be exact, spaced far enough apart that it would be difficult for the Battle Cruiser to evade.

Meanwhile.

The Amalgam burst in on a seemingly abandoned home in the city, struggling to keep the rage going. But the glass was grinding her insides very badly now. If the rage failed now she would drop dead and she knew it. She needed to consume the life of something, fast.

Her flesh shuddered hidiously all over her body as she searched desperately for some means to get the glass out. She had always had a poor command of Telekinesis, and pulling the glass out that way was a hopeless task...there were thousands of microscopic fragments of glass in her body, all sharp as a razor, all turning her organs into wet paper mulch with each movement. She could feel it cutting into her lungs and it was painful...

Then she stumbled into a Lortan Woman hiding with her young daughter.

"Please! We're not like the others! We just want to be left alone!" The Lirtan woman pleaded, before recoiling in horror at The Amalgam's shuddering flesh.

The Amalgam smiled sadistically as she approached...

The next few minutes were nothing but horrific shrieking from her victims.

She staggered out of the House, partly regenerated, covered in blood, the Dark Side having pushed out a large number of glass fragments, buying herself another half hour. She had relished their suffering to the last second.

No sooner had she walked out then she was forced to duck. The pink and green Furry Assassins were back.

The Amalgam had found the idea of being attacked by random Furries amusing at the start of it, but now...now she found it just plain creepy.

Please keep in mind that this sentiment was coming from a monstrosity that had just murdered a family.

Just who were these random Furry Assassins? Who were they working for? They were horribly out of place. And for such a zany get-up, you'd think that they would have made a joke, rub up against each other or something.

But no...they were about as no nonsense as it got. No gags other than the maddening mystery of why they were wearing such glaringly obvious, brightly colored garb when they could easily be shot at from all sides. Maybe everyone else had found them too creepy to deal with. Had they encountered Ultranauts? Had even the Ultranauts noped the hell out upon sighting them.

She was forced to break into another run as they quite ruthlessly pelted her position with slugthrower rounds and more glass Shotgun slugs. Her purple saber activating as she closed in, doing their fire, shredding up her internal organs all over again. She started having trouble breathing. The glass had reached a lung.

The Furry Assassins met her viciously and brutally pulling out Vibroweapons to engage her in a fierce duel, and she was caught off guard once more by just how good they were at fighting as sword and saber spit against each other, vying for dominance.

With a start, The Amalgam realized she and all my other major characters had leveled up to a point where they were encountering elite Enemies and mid tier bosses.

Meaning the Furry Assassins, whatever the origin, were a sign of something far worse on the horizon for everyone...

Kalic was a bit surprised when he heard a voice come through the comms, and they way the voice talked.... Wysp? Pretty soon, the freighter lookalike would land, extending its gear to touchdown with the "cargo container" opening up to let Kalic and the other Rebel out around where they suspected the CIS general was. The Miraluka looked around, wondering if he'd spot a certain floating ball of light. Still, he hoped they could find this guy soon and get the heck outta here!
