STRENGTHS
  • Escort Frigate: The Murkhana-class is built to play off of other ships around it, adding to whatever fleet that the ship finds itself in. It can ferry in an extra squadron of fighters, serve as a point-defense frigate for ships that lack them, or serve as an anti-capital ship for carriers and low-offensive ships. All around, the Murkhana-class is quite versatile in design and application.
WEAKNESSES
  • Average Grade: The only area that the Murkhana-class excels in is the ship's defenses; in all other areas, the escort frigate meets the standard for its size. While this does add to the versatility of the ship design, it can also serve as a detriment in situations where a commander would need a ship with a large starfighter complement or high offensive capability.
  • Exposed Spots: The Murkhana-class's rear engines are exposed, and the limited firing angles of the ship mean that flanking the escort frigate could leave the frigate unable to fire back. In addition to that, the construction of the ship puts the bridge in an obvious place that opposition can easily target.
DESCRIPTION
In the Confederacy of old, Murkhana was a tropical resort planet in which much of the Confederacy's news reports were broadcasted to the galaxy in order to counter the lies and deceptions published on the Republic-controlled holonet. Eliminating the monopoly of media gave the Confederacy a much-needed boost in support and morale, bolstering the war effort of the separatist alliance. However, the Republic decided to respond to this broadcast of free speech by bombarding Murkhana ruthlessly, marring the beautiful world, destroying anything of value, and leaving the once-prosperous planet broken; such was how the Republic dealt with planets yearning for freedom. In honor of Murkhana's sacrifice, Roble Manufacturing is proud to present the Murkhana-class Escort Frigate to serve with the Confederacy Defense Force; a ship that will serve as an escort for dignitaries, complement to fleets, and defender of freedom.

The Murkhana-class is built around the idea of complementing whatever situation the frigate finds itself in, whether it be protecting ships that can't protect themselves or provide an offensive bolster to lackluster fleets. The frigate is able to meet the average of its class in every category, except for its bolstered defenses that allow it to work effectively as an anti-fighter frigate. This allows the Murkhana-class to serve in a wide range of roles and a number of different strategic emplacements. However, this can also serve as a detriment -- in being good at everything, the Murkhana-class does not really excel at anything either, and in that can be beaten by ships that have a more concentrated carrier or offensive design. Despite that, the Murkhana-class, when put in its role, is assured to serve aptly. This escort frigate will only improve whatever fleet it finds itself in.

Love the style of guns on this submission! However we have problems.

This is a Semi-Unique Targeting Package on a Minor Submission. Remove it or tone down the Production to Semi-Unique. Also I noticed this being a trend in submissions you had that I reviewed so please double check any you got going in pre-factory or on paper on that one particular item.

  • Poor Complement: While the Murkhana-class can boast at having a starfighter complement at all, it only amounts to one squadron total -- this makes the Murkhana anything but a carrier, and it cannot rely on its starfighter complement to offensively carry a battle as heavier carriers could.
Being average is not a weakness. Also poor complement is not a weakness here either as it has average starfighter compliment for its size. None of these two work for a weakness as being average at something, just does not work. I will mention however alternatives if you so choose to use them. Such as the 180 degree firing angles in the submission picture, Exposed Rear or Exposed Bridge because the bridge in that stands out very well. Just suggestions to use.

Let me know when you make the required changes. It is a nice frigate, don't get me wrong, it just needs one good weakness.

I've edited the ship but retained the weakness of being 'average' (but took away the complement weakness and implemented an exposed points weakness). I know that the 'average' weakness is not exactly Factory-orthodox per se, but my reasoning for including it as a weakness is as thus -- let's say a lone frigate came up against another frigate, except this frigate, in particular, has a very high defense. The Murkhana's average offensive rating would not be able to crack that very high defense or would take a long time doing so. The same situation could be applied vice versa and with other ratings as well -- I think the point with the weakness is that saying that although the frigate has eggs in all the basket, it will always be outclassed in a specific role by a more specialized ship.

Of course, I know I'm going out on a slight limb with that weakness and reasoning. If you don't think that is balanced enough, I'm happy to change it.

Generally the factory version would be in agreement...however, you do bring up a good point. Frigate vs Frigate, it will lose against something more specialized, I am in agreement. However this is still, an Escort Frigate as it always should be near other ships to help compliment its averageness. But...for this once, I am letting it slide. More I think on it, the more I start to agree with your assessment. I would recommend in the future though not to use it but because of how you phrased your argument....

APPROVED!
