    • Artillery Platform: The Apocalypse is the Eternal Empire’s first true main-line artillery battlecruiser, capable of unleashing terrifying levels of firepower at extreme ranges; rendering it a significant threat to belligerent ships before they can even close the distance to engage.
    • ”We can’t withstand firepower of that magnitude!”: While specializing as an ‘artillery platform’, the Apocalypse is equally dangerous at any other range in which it can be engaged. It boasts almost equally as devastating firepower for closer ranges in the form of Pulse Cannons, Turbolasers, Missiles, and Ion Beams. Unless a craft of similar design were to do so, or even a ship with exceedingly superior maneuverability under a seasoned captain; it would be all-but certain suicide to engage this ship without support. Even with support, all but the heaviest of battlecruiser equivalents would be hard pressed to survive the sheer ferocity of the ship’s firepower for more than a few salvos.
    • Anchor: The Apocalypse-class is designed with top of the line defensive innovations and technologies, utilizing triple-layered armor plating, advanced shielding, and electronic countermeasures/security technologies. This allows her to fill the role of an ‘anchor’ for any fleet she is assigned to, as her intimidating profile is exceedingly adept at attracting and withstanding truly devastating levels of enemy firepower; thus affording her escorting ships the ability to stay in the battle for longer.
    • Siege Engine: While not limited to this application; with its extreme armament array and defensive features, the Apocalypse is ideally suited to the role of a metaphorical ‘siege engine’ against exceedingly hard targets, such as spatial bastions or planetary blockades (as well as filling the opposing role of anchoring a planetary blockade).

    • Very Small Hangar: To make room for the structural reinforcement required to support the borderline-excessive armor plating and armament loadout, significant sacrifices had to be made. Among those was the size of its hangar bay, which is considered extremely undersized compared to ships of an equal class & rating. Its starfighter complement could be considered ‘token’ at best, with its transport capacity equally as undersized. This, among other things, significantly reduces this ship’s effectiveness in exploratory applications, or in tactical situations requiring the flexibility afforded from a more comprehensive hangar crew and flight complement.
    • Lumbering: Although it seems rather obvious, the Apocalypse is definitively not noted for its speed or maneuverability. While it is not the most unwieldy, it certainly excels in situations where it can prevent itself from being outmaneuvered, whether that is within a planetary blockade, or in a fleet containing adequate support vessels to protect its blind spots.
    • Forward Facing: Although every effort has been made to design this ship with a profile allowing it to bring the most weapons to bear in any given situation, the only real way it can do so is if it ‘faces forward’ against its enemies; ideally within a 90-degree cone. Otherwise, in tactical situations where enemies are able to successfully maneuver to the battlecruiser’s sides, her ship captains will find an increasing reliance on the natural firing arcs afforded from the sheer numbers of weapon systems arrayed upon her surfaces. The closer to the rear of the ship one can maneuver, the fewer weapon systems would be able to realistically bring to bear with effectiveness; its firepower being reduced to roughly 60% of its total capabilities when fully ‘rear faced’, and within ‘short’ range.

The past few years of interstellar conflict have taught the Empire much, as has been the case in almost all of the conflicts it has been through since its inception. The Stygian Campaign revealed the need to modernize the Empire’s overall military tactics and naval organization, which gave birth to the likes of the Callides-class Heavy Carrier and Eternal-class Star Destroyer, among other notable ship classes. The more recent outbreak of hostilities against the Mandalorian Enclave, as well as the fragmented Confederacy of Independent Systems, has granted further clarity into the gaps which still exist in the Storm War Doctrine. While holding the numbers in the space battle over Panatha, as well as the services of several elite and experienced naval officers; the Empire’s defeat has been attributed to, among other things, the exceeding quality of the CIS’s ships within the hands of equally capable military minds - particularly their heavily specialized artillery battlecruisers.

This gave rise to a sense of urgency within STRATCOM to develop similar technology, but also to adapt it to their overall strategem of tactical flexibility, and the application of overwhelming force. After expending considerable resources, the Apocalypse-class Artillery Battlecruiser was born. While equally matching the sheer damage potential of the CIS’s vessels, the design also improves upon it by significantly enhancing her defensive capabilities. Not only can she serve the role of a long range sniper, but she can also be deployed as a front line vessel capable of taking near-equally as much punishment as she is able to dish out. While not as flexible as the Eternal-class, she is still able to be effectively deployed in a variety of battlefield applications where extreme force is required to push other fleet assets over the goal line of victory.

Although still considered a ‘new’ development within the Eternal Fleet, first production runs of the final design have already been sighted along the front lines of the Empire’s ‘Outer Rim Crusade’, wherein her intimidating outline can be seen in orbit amongst dozens of worlds - silently projecting the threat of unspeakable devastation if unleashed.
