  • Jack of All Trades The Demeton-class Cruiser was designed with versatility in mind, capable of adequately fulfilling a wide variety of roles - whether it be weathering a sustained frontal assault, line formation bombardment, support of larger vessels with a modestly sized hanger bay, or heavy reconnaissance.
  • Sledgehammer: True to Eternal Fleet doctrine of utilizing highly concentrated & overwhelming force, the Demeton is a perfect incarnation of such tactics. The Demeton boasts sufficient firepower to give some Star Destroyers pause before engaging, particularly if grouped with one or two others cruisers of the same class.
  • Stout: Given the prevalent use of tritanium in its construction, the Demeton is the epitome of stalwart Nelvaanian resolve, capable of enduring severe punishment.

  • Cumbersome: Compared to other cruisers, the Demeton is quite cumbersome to maneuver. This is primarily attributed to the amount of weapons lining its hull.
  • Heavy: While it’s speed has already been addressed, the sheer weight of the vessel has another significant drawback - gravitation forces and anomalies (such as those exerted by interdiction fields or spacial anomalies) have a more pronounced effect on this ship than other classes of cruisers, akin to what may be experienced by a Star Destroyer.
  • Inertial Destabilization: When firing a full volley from its Troika Mass Drivers, the ship is prone to considerable lurches, particularly when firing volleys from either the port or starboard sides of the ship. Inertial stabilizers were added to the design to aid in mitigating this issue, but engaging said measures is most effective when the ship is idle. Use of the ship’s inertial stabilizers may well decrease the recoil experienced, but dampens the overall maneuverability of the ship - limiting their use during mid to short range engagements.

In the Eternal Empire’s race to compete on the galactic stage, many specialty ships of varying smaller sizes were designed to support the Fleet’s powerful star destroyer and battlecruiser variants. However, in so doing, it became apparent that fleet compositions were exceedingly top heavy, causing a shortage in such heavier craft when needed the most, and at the expense of the Empire coffers no less. To resolve this, it soon became clear that the Eternal Fleet needed a versatile, reliable class vessel that could form the backbone of the Imperial fleet without being forced to resort to the cost commitments of such ships as the Adjudicator-class Star Destroyers needlessly.

Therefore, the Demeton was born, providing a weapons platform for primarily ship to ship engagements, while also containing enough versatility to justify solo excursions or small fleet actions with minimal ancillary support (which provides a welcome savings to the Empire’s defense budget). While not striking the same level of fear and awe as the sight of a full-fledged Star Destroyer, the Demeton-class Heavy Cruiser has become a regular sight within the Eternal Fleet as the workhorse it desperately needs. While versatility is considered to be the Demeton’s biggest strength, the sheer firepower it brings to the table is also something worth noting, as groups of two or three of these ships can cause a very real problem for all but the heaviest of capital ships.
