Location: Mortis Bio-Sphere
Objective: 3
Engaging: Lucia Naberrie
Ally: Cord Starfall

Cordelia dropped her focus on her force pull, choosing instead to dedicate her energy towards dodging the two blaster bolts aimed at her. She managed to successfully avoid the one aimed at her upper torso, but the one aimed at her lower torso was a fraction too close. The blaster bolt burnt the skin on the side of her stomach, forcing the ersansyr to bite back a cry of pain. Before she could try to counterattack, the green cloaked woman from earlier jumped in front of her, blocking her view.

"Hey, I can defend myself..." She protested, only to trail off as the woman unsheathed a sword potent with dark side energy. Cori swallowed, looking up at her with a mixture of shock and fear. "That sword...who are you?"

Cori didn't have a chance to discuss it further as the robotic woman sped forward, wielding lightwhips, a twisted reflection of her own. Glancing at the green cloaked woman, Cori decided to continue defending her. A conversation would have to be had later about that dark side infused sword. Stepping to the side, Cori used her own lightwhips to deflect the gynoid's strike at the woman.

"Don't tell me you're trying to beat me at my own game," she laughed, jumping forward and sending two lashing strikes from her own whips at the gynoid. "That isn't being fair - to yourself, that is."

In his rush, Makani had placed himself in immense peril. His instincts had demanded he surge ahead toward the perceived objective, but in doing so he was now facing a thriving mass of thirsting spawn descending from the upper levels. Finding the objective quickly was important, but he was irrational to believe it was the only factor that would weigh on the team's success. He turned to them now. They were outnumbered several times over, and yet the undead still came - the sound of scratching claws and heaving roars creating a sickening chorus that crept closer and closer.

"Above us!"

Makaini's warning had a number of them point their blasters skyward, but for some it was too late. With no sense of self-preservation, dozens of sithspawn fell headfirst from the ceiling, immediately breaching the squad's defensive barrier and forcing them to scatter and spread. One trooper was hit directly, thrust to the ground while gnashing teeth and piercing claws dug into their armour. Another was so distracted by the new threat, they did not see another spawn creeping through the darkness from behind, latching itself onto their back and taking them down, it's jaws closing tight around their shoulder. Makani would, in vain, level his blaster to try and save them, only to be tripped by a legless, crawling spawn hidden amongst the dead, trying to sink its teeth into his legs while he kicked and writhed around in panic.

A smaller gout of burning light came from the passage they had come through before, followed by the pair of rearguard soldiers rushing back. The squad leader desperately hoped the jedi and the marksman were following close behind. A breakout from this weakened position relied on their specialist assistance. If they could perform the same fire trick on a larger scale, perhaps they could earn themselves some breathing room. If they could just keep the undead back long enough to get through one of the blast doors and seal it behind them, maybe the team would have a chance to reach their objective.

Getting out of here afterwards would be a whole other issue.

"Rude."

That irked her more than she was going to admit. He seemed to know everything about her, and yet, she knew nothing of him asides from Amani being tied to him in some way. A shame that he wasn't so open. Though she hardly blamed him. That, and she couldn't exactly focus on trying to hold a conversation as the blazing remnants of the books were scattered down around her. She gritted her teeth, raising her hand to claw them away with a swipe of the Force.

Fire was ever her weakness.

The heavy shelf she cleaved through with her saber, swinging it up with a burst of Anima before the stump where her hand hand been thrusted forward to send that debris back at Alicio. Or past him. Didn't matter too much. Fire had consumed the room, and now she just needed to make sure it spread farther and farther. The knowledge here needed to be purged, less some fool of a Sith created a problem for them all thinking they were truly powerful.

Objective 3: Mortis Bio-Spire
Location: Odacer-Faustin

The ornate, gothic corridors began to change subtly as he progressed. The chilling sterility of the spire gave way to an atmosphere heavy with age and dark reverence. The corridor culminated in an imposing, iron-bound door, its surface adorned with intricate reliefs depicting scenes of alchemical rituals and forbidden rites. Pushing it open with a surge of the Force, Kentarch was greeted by the sight of an expansive, ancient Sith laboratory. He was in the belly of the beast.

Darth Kentarch's gaze moved with predatory precision across the laboratory, each step he took was measured and silent, reverberating with the intent of his dark purpose. Amidst the archaic instruments and arcane artifacts, his attention was captured by a sealed crystal vial placed reverently on a pedestal that seemed as old as the Spire itself. The vial contained a swirling elixir, its hue a deep, enigmatic violet that pulsed with the same foreboding darkness as the petals of the Black Orchid.

The elixir was the culmination of alchemical genius — a distillation of the Black Orchid's essence, a substance of untold properties and potential—the final product of Darth Drear and Darth Scabrous's quest for eternal life. Kentarch placed the precious sample into a specialized compartment in his belt. The remainder of the elixir in the crystal vial was returned to its pedestal, its power still abundant, its secrets still sealed.

Approaching the pedestal, Darth Kentarch extended his hand, and the Force flowed from him, encasing the vial in a protective grip. He knew that even the slightest mishandling could result in catastrophe — the volatile energies contained within the elixir were not to be underestimated. The air around the vial shimmered with energy as he carefully levitated it from its resting place, bringing it towards him. Once the vial was securely within his grasp, Kentarch produced a smaller, empty vial from his belt — a container made of a composite glass that held substances charged with energy. With a precision born of years of practice and the steady hand required of a Dark Lord, he began the delicate process of transferring a portion of the elixir into the smaller vial.

The transfer was a ritual in itself, each drop a promise of power, each ripple a potential glimpse into the vast unknown. The laboratory was silent, save for the soft sound of the elixir flowing into its new vessel. As the final drop fell, the energy within the room seemed to reach a crescendo before settling into a new, charged silence. The remainder of the elixir in the original crystal vial was returned to its pedestal, its power still abundant, its secrets still sealed.

In the silence of the ancient laboratory, Darth Kentarch reached into the folds of his dark attire and produced a communicator. With a flick of his finger, the communicator hummed to life, sending a signal to his secret patron and benefactor. The signal, encrypted with layers of codes that twisted and writhed like serpents of shadow, pierced the cosmos to reach its intended recipient.

"The mission is complete."

The Jedi Knight was pleased that The Dark Lord wanted to forstall hostilities. He levitated the crystal back into his saber hilt that came back together and had it clip on his back belt.

It is an honor to meet you Lord Amarok and you Lady Venge. The passage ahead leads to a Library, but the outside is covered in sludge of the avalanche. I came down here to see if there was another means of navigating the planet, and you have confirmed this path at least is shut.

The Jedi joined the side of The Dark Lord, he did not wish to step between the two, nor annoy The Dark Lady who already had expressed her feelings about Jedi. He did not judge her, the wars had given both side ample reasons to hate one another, and it was a shame. Already Ulic could sense in Lord Amarok a kindred spirit, certainly if duty called they would cross blades on the battlefield, but his good sense to parley for a truce in this twisted tunnel and on this haunted world was a sign others, even those among the Sith had wisdom to see that perhaps, if even only for a moment, Jedi and Sith could work together.

I encountered a Sith Spawn earlier, a most bizarre mutant. I wonder what other nightmarish beings Lord Scaberous made and are now lurking free of their cages..

The Jedi’s words were ominious, he knew frightening Sith Lords was futile, they radiated fear, it was more of a thought spoken aloud, for he had noticed great chunks of the rib cages ice had been removed, as if something had broken free of the walls.

Seeing the woman's initiative, Tod opened the cylinder of his rifle, swiftly loaded six more incendiary rounds, and began firing them into the relentless horde of undead. Upon impact, the rounds set their targets ablaze, causing their chests and heads to burst into flames. However, it seemed like an undying onslaught that simply couldn't be stopped.

The noise of shouting behind him snapped his attention back, and he pivoted to realize that the rear-guard had made a move. Without hesitation, Tod grabbed a thermal detonator and primed it before hurling it into the midst of the encroaching undead. He then ran to join the rear-guard, recognizing the dire straits the group had found themselves in.

Spotting a soldier who was on the ground (Makani), Tod lined up a shot and fired at the undead, swiftly turning to another before he could see any damage he could've caused. Firing at another that was getting up from the ground, the content of its head sprayed across the floor. The objective was to survive, and Tod reasoned that with a big group he had a better chance of making it out alive.

Resh didn't dare to look back, even as he heard the Sith roar out at him. Instincts screamed at him to run, so he did, letting his legs carry him faster than he had ever run in his life. His hairs stood on end, and he felt the creeping dread of the Force. A warning. He finally looked back just in time to see the remnants of the catwalk thrown back at him. He dove, slowing his escape but avoiding the worst of the debris. The pureblood coughed away the fallen dust that had cloaked his head and shoulders, and kicked himself back into a sprint.

Resh rounded a corner, hitting an obstacle that caused him to fall backwards. The obstacle was one of the Sith troopers, and they both looked at one another, then down, where a certain silver-plated hilt had clattered to the ground. Both scrambled for the weapon, but it was Resh who reached it first. Immediately he raised the emitter, and a beam of plasma plunged into the trooper's chest, killing him near-instantly. He fell to the ground, and the Padawan froze for a moment trying to process what had happened. He turned around to face the sound of approaching footsteps, shakily raising the indigo blade of his lightsaber to illuminate the dark warrens.

He was out of time for running. If he wanted to survive, his only chance now was holding off his pursuer, and pray the Force would guide him out with a still-beating pulse.

Alicio let a small, reflexive smirk color his serious face, his shoulders bobbing once in a cheeky shrug. He wasn't about to divulge his plans in the middle of a duel to the death. However, it was interesting to note that she didn't seem to recognize him... at all. It had been some time, but he'd thought the vampire to have a longer memory.

Alina was distracted enough by the falling bookshelf for him to rest. Rejuvenate himself with the Force, if only a little. There wasn't much he could do about the blow to his life energy, but at least he would be ready for their next clash.

The Sith threw the remains of the bookshelf at him, but Alicio was more than ready for it. He sidestepped one half, then a slash of his blade bisected the other around his form. A few quick steps closed the distance yet again. It was time to press his advantage.

Stuttered footwork disguised where his blade would be slashing from until he committed, a horizontal sweep across Alina's body, on the side of her missing hand. But at the last moment, before it would connect with either saber or flesh, Alicio used the Force to change his swing's angle drastically, slashing
down at her leg instead of sideways.

He'd been working on the move for a while. Hopefully, it would prove to be as helpful as he'd designed it to be.

As she continued to walk she eventually found herself in a large room there was a vault on the other end. She heard several screams and saw a group of 10 undead guards rise and begin to move towards her and she heard more coming from a nearby hallway. "Exiting hyperspace in 3... 2... 1... NOW!"

Box Mattox stood on the bridge of the Gorskin, feeling a slight tremor in the decks as the ship entered realspace near the orbital space of the planet.

"Send hailing messages to Admiral Angellus. Advise him that we are here on a Privateering contract against the Sith. Make sure he knows we are not here to attack him or his interests. Quite the opposite." Box didn't want to have to worry about dodging allied assets on his way to cash in on open Sith bounties.

"Then Launch Tac pods and Headhunters. I want two Headhunters escorting each flight of three pods. Keep the rest in Close Air Patrol until we see what the Sith are doing out here. I don't want any proton torpedoes shoved up our ass."

Box's Commander nodded, relaying the order down the line.

"See if that Admiral is willing to share the full tactical picture from his own units. But don't hold your breath. We're probably on our own out here."

"Shields at full power," the Commander advised, "Weapons armed and at full charge. If they come for us, they'll get a licking."

"Once Tac Teams establish an LZ on the ground, let me know. I want status updates every five minutes."

"Should we intercept any Sith we see on the way down, Sir?"

"Negative. It'll be hard enough getting our boys and girls on the ground without purposefully mixing it up in the air. Stay focused."

"Aye, Captain."

Hopefully the Sith and their usual enemies would be too tied up with each other to worry about one mercenary ship out in this soup. But if not... the Battleborn were ready.

"CONN - TACTICAL… They are launching fighters and drophips. Recommend Red Alert."

Negative, stay at Yellow. Run targeting solutions, and send them a 'Tac-Package'.

Lieutenant Freydis, who was at the communications console, looked up in surprise, "Sir, we're getting a complete situational report and even armed escort."

Box looked to the young Lieutenant with surprise- but also relief. Things could have gone a different way. "Extend my compliments to the Admiral. Looks like this gig is going to be easier than I thought."

Whenever non-force users tried to go up against an entity like the Sith, things were always dangerous. The Mandalorians had spent generations learning how to do it, and even they lost, sometimes. Box was glad the Admiral had decided to put his fingers on the scales in the Battleborn's favor. It at least made it likely that they'd be able to get their forces on the ground safely.

Box turned to look at Commander Grisdale.

"Grizzy, does Caska have my bird prepped?"

"As always, Captain. Though I wish you'd just sit pretty for once and let the ground-pounders do their work in peace."

Box shook his head, "Not a chance. Besides, we're all ground-pounders in this Company, Grizzy. Some of us just have wings, is all. The ship is yours."

"I'll keep her safe for you till you get back, Sir."

"I know you will, Grizzie," Box said as he moved to the bridge exit, "I know you will."

Minutes later, Box Mattox was strapped into his personal Headhunter, taking off from the Gorskin's aft hangar. He briefly joined the fighter screen of the Close Area Patrol before breaking off towards the planet below to join his men on the ground.

Evor felt the life of one of his men be snuffed out, but he did not care. As much as he trusted his crew and expected their undying loyalty, they were disposable. A means to an end. Perhaps the seconds the padawan had spent killing his man would be the seconds he needed to catch up. Everyone served a role in the grand scheme of things. He pushed himself harder, his breath ragged and sharp. The adrenaline flowed through his body, filling his ears with a heavy thump, thump.

He rounded the corner and came to a screeching halt. Before him stood the Jedi, shaking where he stood. A faint smile crept across his face, quickly illuminated by the crimson tone of his saber. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he looked down at his dead trooper.

“The time for running is over, little rabbit. You’ve killed once now, are you prepared to kill again?”

He slowly stepped forward, looking intently toward the young Jedi before him. There was something abnormal about him, but he couldn’t quite place it. It was like a swirling doubt encircled him, but as far as he could tell it was not dangerous. Oh well, he would die all the same.

“Come, show me your mettle. What little tricks have the Jedi taught you? Let us hope they have prepared you for death,” he sneered, motioning with his free hand for Resh to attack him.

She turned, brought the heavy saber up at an angle. Alina wasn't truly able to swing it as she had before, but she was still fast, and she could use it as a shield from his strike if she had to. Though the blade never did reach her own. Her eyes saw it. The sudden change. A hiss escaped the Sangnir as she leapt back and away just as another line of pain burnt along her skin. It was shallow, this time, but the paper burned effect of her flesh left little to heal right away. Fire always stifled the regeneration.

But behind them the sparks had done their damage. One of the datastorages exploded violently, setting off further and further throughout the facility nearby. Alina let out a sigh, glancing once to the destruction before looking towards the Count.

"We've no more business in fighting. That wound won't lessen, not without healing. Care to just have us both walk away?"

Venge silently seethed at Lord Amarok's admonishments. She had pledged to treat him as an equal when he had demanded it of her upon his return to the Dark Side, but there were instances; such as this, when he sorely tested her patience.

Upon hearing that there were Sithspawn running loose within the ruins, Darth Amarok visibly paused and reached his hands down to be certain his weapons were still on his belt.

As if reading his thoughts stemming from the last encounter he'd had with a Sithspawn, one that left him on the verge of death, Venge smirked a bit while whispering to him,
"Don't worry, my Dear Amarok, I have the formula to make Sithspawn antidote, But do try to be more aware of your surroundings and not get bitten in the first place."

"Never going to let me forget you were the one that saved my life and led me down the path to the truth, are you Venge,"
Darth Amarok countered.

"Not at as long as I live, Darth. Not as long as I live."

This place was a veritable hell and, for once, Raphael was questioning his decision; the decision to come here anyways. First the zombies, then the other sith coming after this thing as well, not to mention the Alliance soldiers and Jedi-- He stopped for a moment, hiding in his alcove. She was there... She was so damn close and that was concerning. He could move himself quickly with what he'd learned, even though some part of him still rebelled when he accessed the dark.

He took a breath, as he quieted that part of himself. He didn't care how long it took, but he would eventually bury this light. He looked out from the alcove as the last group streamed past him. They weren't necessarily struggling, but it was still going to be a hard fight... It was... They were in trouble. Then it hit him, through the Force the screams echoed at him. Fear, pain and death...

His scar ached.

But he couldn't just leave these men to their fate, could he? He had to, though. Their sacrifice would mean that he had an opportunity to get to what his master wanted...

No.

Yes.

The last time, they'd taken you. If you willingly go to them, you will forever spurn her and the power that she can give you, that you can take from her. With enough cunning and patience, you could outwit her!! You could kill her and take everything that she is. You could become immortal, just as she is!!

What right... do I have to potentially sacrifice the lives of those soldiers... Over my own?!

Conflicting emotions, so easily detectable through the Force.

Intention was taken, he fired his slugthrower through the heads of the last three zombies and called upon the light, instead of the dark. He leaned out of the alcove and fired a blaster bolt from his pistol taking out the head of one as it fell from the ceiling. He could see her. His heart broke, and was filled.

You abandoned me.

You saved me.

The rush down into the lower levels of the structure was forcibly slowed as a sudden rush of snow came in with a chilling wind, making the already dark stairway almost impossible to navigate in any meaningful manner. Darth Strosius himself nearly lost his footing even with his enhanced senses and his outreach in the Force. Between the Jedi and the academy itself, proper details about the path ahead were difficult to discern by sensing alone.

"Step carefully but decisively, we still need to make it to-" A grunt of pain and surprise cut the masked man off, the body of the demolitions expert soon tumbling down the stairs right next to him. Well that certainly didn't bode well. "Fething hell. Alright just get down to the bottom now! Don't break your necks and you should be fine!"

He ignited his lightsaber to act as something of a beacon within the storm, ushering the soldiers to move past him as he turned to face the entrance to the stairwell. "Get down there and set up whatever you can, I'll hold off the Jedi and fall back to link up when I can." Fighting at such a disadvantaged position, particularly when his opponent would have the higher ground, was dangerous but it was his only option at the moment.

As the two Sith conversed with one another about shared history, something pertaining to a Sith Spawn, Ulic felt something reach under his arms and pulled him up into the wall of white rib cages, he felt a claw around his windpipe, squeezing, he saw the Dark Cloaked Couple walking away, his vision dimming as he turned to see a unusual head:

IMG_8173.webp

The creature placed its finger which glowed turquoise blue to his head, and he felt it intrude his mind. It was jumble of growls and clicks that formed into some kind of maddening hive language. The Jedi tried to reach for his saber hilt as he struggled.

The clicking became more intense so that he felt his mind being stabbed as if with tendrils that felt around, he groaned. This creature had no teeth, only a hole to breath. It seemed to feed on his thoughts when it came upon one that made it twitch, an image of a Dark Lord, who wielded a Staffsaber and stared with a menacing gaze. The creature cried out, and dropped Ulic to the floor, he choking, its clicking then called to other rib ice that stirred. The Jedi looked as the shapes became the head bone of these Roggwart looking creatures. They were clearly a mutation, something Scaberous must have created in his lab or perhaps something from The Unknown Regions that had been undiscovered. What was clear is Ulic was bleeding from his nostrils, it had fed on his thoughts, and now he was on the ground crawling.

He let out a cry,

Lord Amarok! Lady Veng! Danger! Ugh..”

The Jedi was pinned down another Mind Eater, its forked tail like a harpoon that went around his neck and pressed his face in the ice.

There was the flash of success in Alicio's heart as his blade found purchase on her leg, though it didn't show on his face, frozen by grim focus. Alina darted away again- when they'd first dueled, he'd been the only one darting away.

Now, Alicio stood calm, resolute, unflinching from the cacophonous explosion behind him, blade held close to defend against her inevitable counterattack. One that never came, as Alina offered... a truce. It confused Alicio for a moment- why? Yes, he'd taken the advantage in their duel, but not enough to cow a full-fledged Sith Knight. What was her motive?

Gunmetal eyes regarded the Sith, cold despite the heat of the air around them.
"I appreciate your concern," he said, eyes glimmering with untold prophecy. After a moment, he lowered his blade to the floor, standing loosely in front of the vampire. A keen eye would see through the façade of his relaxation, to the intensity of his being. He were ready to spring into action at a moment's notice.

"If you leave, I will not follow you."

"That's something I should be saying to you, you know." He was the trespasser here, after all. But her mission wasn't to fight. It'd been ideal to have someone to blame for the destruction of the library should she be questioned, but with the knowledge already saved and in her Master's grasp, she didn't feel any need to better her standing by hounding down Alicio. Her gaze shifted towards the burning building.

No, continuing to fight here with the mess she'd made would only put her at the disadvantage.

"I wouldn't remain here. This whole building will be collapsing soon enough. Just a friendly tip to whoever you are to Amani." She paused. Let her brow furrow for a brief moment before she turned to leave.

"Make sure she knows I am free of the cage she wanted to put me in. And that I won't be going back in it."
