STRENGTHS
- INEXPENSIVE, EASY TO MAINTAIN, AND DOESN'T TAKE A LOT OF SPACE: The Skycrane was meant to be an inexpensive option to having dedicated heavy transports for ground operations when launched from a capital ship.
- NOTA "BASIC" DROID: The droidbrain giving it (somewhat) independence allows for simple orders and letting it work. The droid also was designed in the manner of a protocol droid and understands multiple languages and forms of communication (no, not 6 million)
- CAN WORK WITH OTHER SKYCRANES: This thing is strong as a Ronto, but cannot carry everything, a "link" program in the droids allows multiple Skycranes to work in tandem (as many as necessary)
- STRONG AS A TICKED OFF RONTO: With the lack of onboard personnel, armament, or offensive systems, a lot of focus can be put on the engines, propulsion, and tractor beams. This thing is strong.
- TOUGH BUT NOT UNSTOPPABLE: The Skycrane is a droid automated transport with one real purpose, carrying heavy cargo to and from a planet.
- EXPOSED CARGO: One major drawback of the Skycrane is that it acts as a crane as a name suggests. Everything hangs below it. You don't want to shoot the transport? Fine. Shoot the cargo.
- CAN NEVER TRULY REPLACE A HUMAN PILOT: The droids are programmed for transporting, not combat piloting. No real instincts or improvisation.
The SkyCrane came about because of a need for Carriers large enough to carry Marine contingents to be able to carry their equipment down to the theater of operations without sacrificing troop space. The automated systems allow for efficient flight and transport to and from. When not in operation they simply land and wait until a security code is transmitted. Sensors and communication arrays enhance those of any vehicle they are carrying.
