In spite of the threat of the Shadow Empire and the looming evil of the Maw, lurking within the Unknown Territories, the Eternal Empire has seen a meteoric rise as the young nation begins to establish itself as a beacon of stability in an otherwise chaotic galaxy. To maintain that stability, the Empire’s military has been deployed to various warzones within and without the Unknown Regions, purging upstart Imperialist warlords, omnicidal monsters, cultists, and other malicious actors. Within the realm, the work has dealt largely with the Shadow Empire.

As such, the Empire is on high alert pertaining to matters of internal security. On Zakuul, a recent disturbance has emerged in the wake of an unusually powerful, disturbing, and seemingly dark-aligned Force presence, which is heavily concentrated around one of the world’s many ruins dating back to the era of the Zakuul Empire. However, stretched thin by the offensives against the Bryn'adûl, the Eternal Empire has tasked a few tiny armed expedition teams to delve into the tombs to uncover the source of the disturbance.

For now, they will have to be enough.

dRUm20K.png

Objectives
Objective I: Awaken the Beast
After extensive excavation, the disturbance has been pinpointed to a massive, previously undiscovered, subterranean section of the ruins, which remains in relatively good condition due to being maintained over the millenia by a large fleet of GEMINI, Caretaker, Purifier, Scour Swarm, Custodian, and Skytrooper droids. These machines, having drawn power from a miniaturized sun generator deep within the undiscovered section of the ruins, are ostensibly charged with protecting something or someone of great power. However, the droids have become corrupted and restless, with the ancient facility bearing signs of a recent violent skirmish, likely between corrupted and uncorrupted droids. Nevertheless, in order to find the source of the disturbance, expeditionary teams will need to fight through the droids as they penetrate the depths of the ruins, likely uncovering ancient secrets in the process...

Objective II: Make off like Bandits
With the discovery of a new section of ruins, opportunity is abound for all manner of banditry. In this case, fortune very much favors the bold, as the new, undiscovered section of the ruins is quite pristine and untouched, loaded with ancient schematics, technology, and lost texts which bear knowledge, wealth, or quite simply, pleasure, in abundance. For those who fancy themselves as rebels, outlaws, or adventurers, the opportunity is there to slip past the tiny Eternal Imperial expedition crews, to have first pick of the treasures which await therein.

And perhaps, to reach the source of the dark disturbance before the Empire.

Niki typically didn't let her curiosity get the better of her. But the chance at helping gather technology wasn't something she usually let pass her by. Especially when the droids surrounding this strange new finds had gone haywire for some unforeseen reason. Which in and of itself was a curiosity for the woman that had recently taken steps into the artificial intelligence and droid production lines.

Which might have been a strange thing given the cargo she was having hauled down to the surface on what seemed to be a relatively peaceful sight. The cargo haulers were quick to drop her off with a small contingent of her own security. Former Agents of Chaos Marines that had followed her into the private sector, acting as guards and haphazard security dummies when the need arose to test a ship.

She was always grateful for their presence.

Even if she had to deal with them being so ready for combat.

The droid on her harness blipped excitedly in a show of lights, drawing the attention of Mathews from his gear check, the curious tilt of his helmet at the strange device making her chuckle nervously.

"It's handy, and compact. I just...have to figure it out sometimes." Niki informed him, getting a shake of the head before the man formed up with the other five, detailing their pattern and zones of fire as Niki adjusted her glasses and began opening the crates the crew had dropped off. The droid illuminated the keypad, the boxes slowly breaking down to reveal the goliaths inside as they turned to face her.

Checking the programming, and making sure they were linked to her compatriot on her shoulder...you need a name because this is already getting old she mentally groaned. Nothing came to mind in the moment, setting it aside for the time being as she drew out a data-pad and finalized settings between the two.

"Mathews, are we ready?"

"Ready when you are." The man called back, initiating a comm's check that had Niki fumbling to figure out how to operate the inbuilt system of her armor. She hadn't been one to be out in the field, and the weapons that were on her felt ill suited. Her place was usually behind a computer screen or holo-board working on a design.

Not hip-firing a blaster or throwing hands at things.

"You all-"

"We are on point. You'll be told when all is clear."

"So you are in front, right?"

There was a collective glance her way from all six bodies, followed by a unanimous sigh as Mathews laughed.

"Thank the stars you pay well. Move out pee-bees, I have Priddy detail." Mathews informed the five others, moving in a spaced delta with Niki and Mathews in the rear. The ruins seemed so far away, and there were strange noises that caught her attention, and plainly the attention of her guards as they scanned the area continuously.

They had rifles at the ready, the distance between the point man and Niki growing quickly as Mathews spoke over the comm's with instructions on their objective.

"Sir, I must insist that you stay onboard. Going to the planet yourself is reckless-"

"Your objection has been noted for the final time, Commander." Annoyance laced Aximand's words as he continued down the corridors of the Retribution, making his way to the hangar bay where he would meet his away team. His eye stole a sidelong glance to his executive officer as a few moments of silence prevailed between the two men, and noticed the deadpan expression on his friend and companion's face. The Commodore sighed lightly, and added: "Your concern for me is admirable, Varys. But given the special nature of this disturbance, I need to be on the ground for any potential discoveries. If some meat-head of a grunt were to damage an artifact the Empress finds valuable, that's on me."

"Be that as it may..." Commander Praxxis responded, clearly the more reserved and diplomatic of the two men: "Any of your senior bridge officers could do that. Why not send me? Or even Commander Aierka...?"

"I'm going." Aximand's firm tone returned, albeit with less annoyance this time. When his mind was made up, it was nigh impossible to change it. Commander Praxxis knew this well, but it did not stop the well intentioned officer from proceeding to argue with Aximand when he deemed the Commodore making a crucial error. While such occurrences were rare, the few instances of vindication over the years the two men served together only emboldened the officer's insistence to voice his opinions to Aximand. It never ventured into the insubordinate to be sure, or at least Aximand never took it that way. But there were certainly times when the Commodore wished his rank and reputation was still a deterrent to his XO from expressing his opinion so freely. But, he knew it sprung from a noble place. Aximand had few friends in the galaxy, and if ever he was in a situation requiring it, he could think of no finer officer to place his life within the care of.

Perhaps that's why Varys was so insistent. With Aximand on Zakuul and Praxxis remaining aboard the Retribution, there was no way for Varys to be there for his superior officer. Realization flooded Aximand as soon as that point arose in his mind, which for some reason motivated him to add further, despite not needing to do so given his relative position compared to the Commander.
"I will be in good hands. Major Autem will be leading the contingent accompanying me."

"You mean the newly appointed Major Autem?"

"She has commended herself well in service to the Empire. You of all people should know the value of such individuals in the service." Aximand's tone was a bit more reasonable as he conversed further with Varys, and in turn Varys' disposition eased slightly. He couldn't argue with that point - for Major Autem had made somewhat of a name for herself within the 20th Heavy Assault Line - enough so for Aximand to personally request her presence on the away team.

They neared the turbolift which led straight down to the hangar deck, and the two men paused at its doors. Aximand gave a firm nod and salute to his friend, and said:
"I leave the ship to you for now. I have every confidence she's in good hands." Commander Praxxis responded with a hesitant salute in turn. After the two men dropped their hands, Aximand extended a hand and grasped Varys' own in a more casual gesture. "I fully intent to make it back for you to tell me 'I told you so'. We wouldn't want to deprive you of that, eh?" Praxxis couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle, at which Aximand also chuckled slightly in return. As the two men released their handshake and Aximand set about entering the turbolift, both of their comms went off with the thick, accented voice of Lt. Dobrev:

"Sirs, sorry to bother you both - we are picking up a pocket carrier on our sensors. Their transponders are broadcasting a civilian frequency."

Praxxis arched an eyebrow at Aximand, as if to already say 'I told you so' before the expedition even got started. Aximand rolled his eye, and responded to the Lieutenant: "Hail the ship, and demand an explanation for their presence. Defer to Commander Praxxis for any further updates. He will keep me informed on the ground."

"Yes sir!"

With that, Aximand entered the turbolift to descend to the hangar bay and meet with Major Autem.

"Attention unidentified ship, this is the ENS Retribution. State your business, by order of the Empire." Lt. Dobrev's voice would bleed through the speakers of the hauler craft, with the officer waiting for a response before doing anything further. Niki Priddy Niki Priddy

Dis had been with the Spear lately and studied there, so they heard about this event there. Shadowcat has always been interested in ancient things and archaeology, so there was no question that they would take the opportunity. They did not use a host now, only arrived in their own form. Before leaving, they sent a message to Kal Kal ; see if their Shadow peer is curious about that. After all, from ancient Sith things were never enough. That is, from things that are presumably related to this.

Don't get me wrong Dis was a fan of everything that was history, Jedi things were included, but hey! The Sith was much more creative and did a lot more interesting things. And a lot has already happened in Zakuul, here they found some interesting finds before, like the Sith princess droid! So, they really came to this place. They immediately felt the disturbance in the Force. Interesting. What woke you up about all this? They didn't have an answer yet, but that's why they came to get answers. They came from the Nether and arrived through a rift, as usual.

As was usually invisible and immaterial, unless someone in the Force deliberately sought them, they could not find them. The Shadowcat floated high over the excavation area. It was time to look around. They hoped they could even make friends here. Friends they can take to Melydia Gold Melydia Gold , even though they haven't seen the girl since the events in Korriban. A lot has changed since then. But two things are not: finding interesting things and making friends.

Dis hovered closer to the excavation and began to look around, listening here. Floating so two meters high. That way, no one is going through them. Sometimes it was uncomfortable for someone to be invisible and for mortals to just walk through them. So mean and rude!

As they walked, the shoulder mounted droid blinked in Niki's face as she yelped in surprise. Mathews glancing to her with a look that expressed plenty well the unspoken question as the woman produced her comm line.

"You read the manual for that...right?" He sassed her, receiving a sharp look in return as the commander for her vessel patched through to the ground team.

"Ms. Priddy, we are being hailed by ENS Retribution of the Eternal Empire. I'm patching you through now."

"Nowaitholdon-" Niki floundered as she caught the other message and processed it. They didn't stop walking, the point man slowing enough to allow Niki to walk and talk without flopping on her face.

"ENS Retribution...this is Caristiona Dior Kerdor Nichol Cartulla Priddy...Niki Priddy for short. Owner of the Entanglement currently loitering in the system. I mean, in orbit, around the planet. The one we are on. Planet I mean...not ship." Mathews seemed to suddenly choke on something as the full length of her name was given, and it took an immense amount of self control to not take the few steps to swat him.

"I'm...actually a member of an allied group...though we kind of fell off the records of late. Ing-The Eternal Empress knows and worked...maybe still works with...the Agents of Chaos." She began to ramble. There was a reason she couldn't get into the rank and file of things and this only helped to solidify the reason as she chewed on her nail trying to remember the latest reports from the Scintilla.

"Do they not want an engineer on site?" Mathews chimed in as she snapped her fingers at him. He grinned beneath the helmet before waving his hand and brought the group to a halt. The squad knelt as Niki began to pace quickly.

"I'm classified as a civilian yes. I'm an engineer and capable with technology...and I brought droids to help with any issues. I designed them. Not the ones down here...the ones I brought I mean...and the ship. The one I brought. Well...we flew here but on that ship. The one in orbit. Not the cargo hauler...hey wait-" She continued as the rifle found Mathews knee, his lip suddenly becoming very sore with the effort to not laugh.

She clicked the datapad suddenly, calling the four Nuisance Engines to keep pace with them instead of guarding the landing pad. The behemoths would easily keep pace, though for the moment they were standing still as they sorted out the details.

"I'm sorry. What did you ask again?"

"We are going to get blasted from space I swear by the stars." Mathews sputtered, everyone's head on a swivel but sparing a moment to share their amusement as Niki shushed them.

Renate would be walking to the shuttles in full kit as she occasionally bumped into people before apologizing profusely as she was preoccupied with reading a pamphlet on the planet they're going to as well as the briefing and couldn't help but be awestruck by the planet beauty. "think we could pick up a souvenir from the planet before we leave?" Only to pout when she got her answer from a passing ultranaught.

Letting out a sigh she made her way to the shuttle and strapped herself in.

Mission: Steal the Loot
Primary Objective: Infiltrate the Eternal Empire excavation site, enter the uncovered ruins, locate ancient artifacts, and relocate them before the Eternal Armed Forces arrive.
Secondary Objective: Kill any Jedi encountered slowly.
Tertiary Objective: Deny the Eternal Empire the satisfaction of an exceptionally power artifact or meeting the Presence.

"Hey. Hey, Alnor." The sound of chains rattling against a metal barricade filled the air. "What's with the gate?"

A sigh mixed with a grunt followed as an older man straightened up and looked at the young one with their hand on the lock. "Ever since the Scouts returned the place has been sealed until the main Exploratory Group arrives. Why? Eager to join the dead in one of those tombs?" The outcome of the scouting mission wasn't widely known in the camp, but everyone had been told it was far too dangerous for them to go too far into the tombs alone.

"Oh." A dull bang of the lock as it fell against the metal panels echoed the disappointment in his voice. "Well," he leaned over the gate, their eyes attempted to pierce the murky depths, "asiras."

"What was that?"
the older man asked in a gruff tone distracted from the inventorying of supplies. Sounded like the kid had said something, but that last word hadn't made any sense. Maybe he was getting too old for this poodoo. No response came and a few moments later the old man turned to find the area empty. He turned again and swept the area visually only to find the lad was gone. Not a word out of him. Not even a sound. Must have been too focused on his task to notice they left. Well, he'd find him later and see what all the fuss had been about.

Deeper into the ruins, out of sight from the main camp, Ebony materialized their 'true' appearance in the entryway of one of the tombs with a sigh. The mauled form of the Human male was piled up on the ground behind them. They had been useful in gaining access -- even if that use was just to keep the rest from knowing they were there.

Ebony strode into the tomb before them with a smile. Perhaps they could uncover a particularly valuable artifact that would facilitate more criminal organizations trusting in their abilities. Or perhaps they would find a relic of true darkness that would join them in their quest to rid the galaxy of the Light. Then there was the possibility of Ebony coming across this 'presence' that seemed to be hanging over the area; whether they would need to massacre, devour, or strike some accord with that entity only time would tell. They weren't worried.

The only thing Ebony had to worry about was how quickly those excavation crews would catch up once they were set free to crawl over the place like angry ants. That was one thing the Dark Spirit would grant the mortal creatures -- they were surprisingly fast and insatiable. Just like the insects they were. And they wanted Ebony's power so they could achieve greatness; only that was their power and no mortal was going to claim it long as Ebony was around.

"Right! Now that you've all been briefed, get strapped in and prepare to drop. Won't be long until the Kingpin gets here, so I want you all on your best behavior from this moment on." Nodding to her troops, Major Corin Autem gave it a second before asking, "Understood? Get to it." A chorus of 'yessirs' accompanied by twenty-nine crisp salutes let her know that her words had been received. About damn time, too, the Ultranaut thought as she watched her soldiers board the craft that would be taking them down. The pilots had already gone aboard and were in the last legs of their pre-flight checks. All they had to do now was wait for the Commodore's arrival.

And Blackstone's. Where the hell is that woman?

The young corporal was a new edition to the battle-diminished Third battalion. New, yes, and inexperienced. Corin couldn't claim to know much about the woman save the fact that she and her people were relatively new additions to the Empire. The Major didn't know what to make of that. Nothing, I guess. Until she was given the chance to prove herself, the fresh-faced Ultranaut would be just that; a mystery. This mission would likely be a good chance for her to prove herself, and make a name for herself amongst the veterans. The opposite was equally true.

Clasping her hands behind her back, Corin stood at ease as she waited for Commodore Sicarus to arrive. That was another thing the Major wasn't certain what to make of. Apparently the man himself had requested her presence for this away party. Why, exactly, she wasn't sure, but she guessed it had something to do with the legend being built around her and her platoons. Years of combat had molded the Tenth 'Oathbreaker' Regiment into one of the fiercest fighting units in the Galaxy and that -apparently- was due in no small part to officers like her. They had fought alongside the Empress in several different theaters of war, after all. And before her, Tacitus.

A pang of regret swept over Corin as the old Emperor's name crossed her mind. It had been years since they'd lost him to the Void, and even now his presence was missed by many among the Tenth. They had been his elite, and they had failed him. Worse, they had failed to find him. That failure alone had been enough to put a black mark on the annals of their shared history. May it never happen again, the Major prayed, letting out a sigh before settling in to wait.

Renate hurriedly made her way to the shuttle a line of toilet paper attached to her foot that she had to shake off before saluting Corin, "sorry I'm late Sir I mean ma'am I had to use the bathroom." holding the salute for a bit longer than she intended the new recruit made their way with all the medical equipment attached to her back and sides in various straps and bandoleers from a surgical kit, multiple med aid pouches, 2 medkits, portable med scanner, and a portable antisepsis field generator on top of her standard kit it was a lot of weight but from her technology analog planet the weight was more like something the average worker had to manage. taking a seat and strapping herself in she made sure to secure a lead-lined granade container on her hip that gave off a slight glow.

Keeping her head down she was thankful to be wearing a helmet as her face was bright red from embarrassment as her first mission hasn't even started yet and she's already messing up. and she's too embarrassed to mention before she went to the bathroom she strapped into the wrong shuttle. though shes sure with how word travles fast on a navel vessel its bound to be talked about like her time mistaking the ships shield technology as magic as it was much smaller than that of the shield tech on her planet that protects from solar flairs.

A prolonged pause prevailed over the comm frequency between Niki & Lieutenant Dobrev. Finally, his voice chimed back: "Standby for inspection. Lower your shields, and deactivate all weapon systems. We require the ship's commander to be present for our inspection, as well as a full record of the ship's hyperdrive coordinates for the past thirty days. Over?" Although standard comm procedure was observed with Lt. Dobrev requesting confirmation from Niki, the Retribution would not wait as it acquired a target lock upon the pocket carrier. Its tractor beams gripped the ship with ease, pulling it inexorably closer to the heavy carrier's main docking bay. Crews quickly set themselves in preparation for the ship's "arrival", namely squads of ultranaughts rushing into parade lines with a surly human Lieutenant at their head, bedecked in his full kit.

Meanwhile, at another section of the hangar deck entirely, Aximand emerged from the turbolift to see Major Autem addressing her men, and likely to the embarrassment of Corporal Blackstone, the combat medic rushing into line with a stream of toilet paper stuck to her heel. The strip of cloth lay isolated upon the durasteel flooring for all to see. The Commodore waited for the party to board the dropship, as it seemed he had remained unnoticed throughout her brief address. When they did so, he approached the Major, clearing his throat as he approached to alert her of his arrival. By reflex, he returned the woman's salute with a crisp one of his own, dropping his while adding a curt:
"At ease, Major." His appraising eye returned to the platoon of soldiers filing into the transport before settling back to the Major. "Are we good to go, Major? If so, let's not delay." He gave her a very slight smile accompanied by a nod. Mentally, he was preparing himself for what they may face planetside, not unlike the mental state he entered in when about to enter into a major fleet action. If there were any issues that needed to be addressed, he was listening, but otherwise - he was ready to get moving.

Turning at the sound of footsteps, Corin stood to as the late arrival saluted her. Returning the salute, the Major listened to the medic's excuse with a passive expression. Had to hit the head, did she? Spotting something stuck to the corporal's boot, Cor's brow furrowed as she made out what it was. "Yes, well, at least you're here now." Corin replied, trying to keep her amusement hidden. "Get aboard and get strapped in. We drop in five." Watching Corporal Blackstone as she followed her comrades up the ramp, the Major couldn't help but shake her head in disbelief.

With warriors like her, it's no wonder our enemies fear us.

The sound of someone clearing their throat made Cor turn her attention back to the turbolift. And just in time too. Standing straighter, the Major puffed out her chest as Commodore Sicarus came to stand before her. Field dress or not, the man cut an impressive -and often imperious- figure, so much so that the veteran Ultranaut felt the tiniest bit nervous as he addressed her albeit briefly.

Letting her arm drop, Corin felt the tension in her body ebb as Aximand-... Commodore Sicarus nodded at her. The slight smile helped too. "We are, sir." Gesturing towards the dropship, Cor led her superior up the ramp, her weaponry and armor shifting with every stride. A few heads turned as they went aboard, but for the most part her men had the decency to appear unaffected by their commanding officer's presence. Stoicism was an Ultranaut's bread and butter after all, and they supped well on it.

"My men are all suited and booted. We're just waiting for the Bridge crew to give the all clear before we depart. Last thing they want is for us to be reduced to our component atoms by an unidentified vessel before we're even underway."

The Entanglement would power down shields and weapons, even if Ta'Nere didn't enjoy the fact. The Trandoshan commander growled at the position that their owner and operator had placed them in. The clearance papers she had shoved in his claws the only assurance beside her word of their permission to be here.

"Security is to meet me and our gracious hosts. I will be present shortly. Bring your operator permits and security clearances also. Ta'Nere out. Hedrick has the bridge until I return."

The Trandoshan stalked off the bridge and to the docking area, hearing the affirmative check in from a squad of private security officers as they assembled to greet their hosts.

"Sorry Ta'Nere. Hope he had his caf already." Niki commented quietly as Mathews chuckled. Niki cast a glare at him before sighing and staring skyward briefly.

"I guess we press on in the meantime? Let's go then." Mathews looked around, listening for anything as the pointman gave the all clear.

"Slowly. I'm sure they don't want us snagging anything in the meantime. Move out. Eyes up and stay frosty. Lots of power sources ahead from the scans." Mathews gave the all clear as the others stood and slowly began to trudge on, returning to their wedge formation.

The Nuisance Engines followed behind at an easy pace. The soft trundle of weight behind them giving Niki a flase sense of security paired with the squad ahead of her.

“Okay, remember y’all, the Eternals are friends, not food!” Bill, a battle-hardened Model 1 heavy gunner, called out to the small contingent of Sirens and Nuetralizers inside the passenger bay of the Aerial Nuetralizer. “We Just gon’ race ‘em inside, that’s ‘sall.” He clarified. “Am I clear?”

“Yes, sir!” Esmeralda called out, her soprano, girlishly eager tenor ringing the highest out of a chorus of mostly mechanical and mezzo-soprano tones within the compartment.

Now recovered from her injuries after twelve hours immersed in a bacta tank and a few days of R&R, Esmeralda hadn’t hesitated to get back to work as soon as she was cleared. After all, injuries and wounds were not only part of being a Siren, but also, part of being a soldier. At the very least, the diminutive Siren could be glad that she had inflicted far more destruction than she had taken in turn. Having brought her shotgun once more, now loaded with explosive slugs to combat droids, vehicles, and power armor-clad soldiers, the weapon had proved to be reliable before. She hoped that it would do the same for her, again.

“Also I should add…” Bill paused. “I think Mother and a few of the Matriarchs are coming with us.” The heavy gunner said. “So, be on your best behavior!

Fortunately, Esmeralda was always on her best behavior.

Before long, the Aerial Nuetralizer landed close to the entrance of the ruins. Taking up her disruptor rifle, the newest addition to her personal armory designed by the oh-so-talented Niki Priddy Niki Priddy and her a company, Priddy General Engineering and Manufacturing, Esmeralda quickly disembarked from the gunship, sending out her IBIS Drone as she did in order to scout out the area and get a lay of the land.

“Clear in my sector.” Esmeralda called out a moment later as the data was processed by her armor’s systems.

“Good. Let’s hold here and wait for the Matriarchs to arrive.”

Dis, as they looked, soon sensed someone else also was down there. Shadowcat was also a Force Entity; thought of the not very strong kind, but they felt and saw them. They saw a very strong and powerful illuminating aura near the entrance to the tomb. They were able to see the auras, and if any of them were glowing, that person was Force sensitive. This showed them perfectly who is an easy or difficult to use as a host if they needed to. The aura here was very strong.

The other thing you should know about Dis is that the Shadowcat is a pacifist. The Sith may be their friends, but they condemned all violence. That's why they didn't like what they felt here in this place now. They hovered closer to the entrance, from where they could feel the dark presence. It still wasn’t pleasant, and it was weird. They typically only met this kind of thing at home in the Nether, not here at Realspace.

They were still approaching invisibly and immaterially, and so they floated into the corridor of the tomb. Now, that is, spirit was no longer the only thing they felt as a Dark Side presence, but it was definitely from here that the disturbance they had felt before. They also saw a younger girl outside and sensed more and more life in the neighbourhood. However, as a precaution, they had not yet appeared or tried to address others.

For now, the Shadowcat was just an observer and hovered inward, they were curious…

Mission: Steal the Loot (Objective 2)
Primary Objective: Infiltrate the Eternal Empire excavation site, enter the uncovered ruins, locate ancient artifacts, and relocate them before the Eternal Armed Forces arrive.
Secondary Objective: Kill any Jedi encountered slowly.
Tertiary Objective: Deny the Eternal Empire the satisfaction of an exceptionally power artifact or meeting the Presence.

Ebony strode into the tomb headless of whose it was or why it was there. It was new, which meant any artifacts that'd been buried there were still there. Some of the trinkets would fetch a good price, and the powerful ones would look good in their personal collection. A smirk pulled at their lips as they wandered into the depths. Not to mention whatever spirit wouldn't appreciate intruders. What Nether spirit didn't love the company of their own kind? Ah, yes, the weaker ones. Those that might be afraid a stronger one would try to consume them. How else did weak ones get stronger? That was how the Sith made Ebony -- they just sped up the progress by a thousand of their years or more by forcing them all together.

Dis Dis ? Ebony felt something was watching them, but it didn't feel like a threat so it wasn't worth investigating. And as far as consuming Dis, Ebony wouldn't be inclined to try. Unless the cat revealed it had far more power than it let other entities know about -- then Ebony might be understandably curious.

Though they did play with a Scour Swarm Droid that click-clacked up to them. Ebony and the machine stared at one another for a moment. Then it shot at the intruder, but its beam only managed to hit the stonework behind them. A darling creation that a Dark Spirit might have a long chat with if their intelligence exceeded that of a caf-maker.

With all the darkness -- literal and otherwise -- in the tomb, it was wisp-play (child's play) to conjure thick tendrils of pitch-black to wrap about the droid's hefty limbs. Then Ebony started to pull them in opposite directions. They pulled and pulled and pulled until the droid's limbs were stretched all the way out despite their efforts to resist. Then... Ebony pulled some more.

Perhaps when the Eternals arrived they'd find the droid in the tomb with all its limbs literally pulled free from its core like a bug. Perhaps they'd mistake it as being just another droid-on-droid act of violence. A keen eye might find a pattern or trail of similar... dismantling through the tomb, however. After all, pulling legs off a droid probably wasn't the usual method other droids used to kill one another. Who could say? Ebony wasn't a droid maker. Perhaps they'd all become sadists and liked such experimentation like they did.

It was a lovely tomb though. Shame Ebony couldn't just walk around playing with murder-droids. The droids couldn't be possessed so Ebony couldn't force them to turn on one another, terrified their friend might suddenly and inexplicably turn on them -- that was their biggest lament. No, Ebony needed to find the heart of this tomb to get their hands on the delightful riches of... Whose tomb was this again? Well, they'd have an engraving somewhere and perhaps Ebony would even care to read it. Especially if it was Sith or High Sith, they were quite familiar with several dialects of either of those.

Aximand merely nodded at the Major's report of their readiness, replying with a curt: "Carry on then." At that, she led the way into the lander - the pair passing through the entry door and entering into the body of the craft proper. Several heads turned to regard them, or rather, him. He appeared unaffected by their glances, an air of confidence and command shrouding him as if a fragrance wafting off of his person. He wore the weight of command well upon his shoulders, adding a gravitas that would come to define his character, rather than appearing as if he carried a burden too great to endure. He followed the major to a pair of empty seats within the body of the craft. He removed his sword scabbard, ensuring the strap held the blade within before settling in to strap himself into the seat. No sooner had he done so had a petty officer strutted in with a datapad, checking everyone to ensure everyone was accounted for. Within moments, the door to the shuttle sealed, and the engines of the craft thrummed to life. Slowly, they lifted up from the platform and shot out of the airlock, speeding down toward the planet of Zakuul.

9lv2K7W.png

The pocket carrier would gently settle into the grasp of the Retribution, docking clamps holding it in place as an umbilical stretched out to seal onto the main airlock of the craft. A gentle 'hum' combined with the sound of a secure seal indicated the umbilical was in position, after which a platoon of ultranaughts marched down it, with the aforementioned lieutenant striding alongside Lt. Commander Aierka, who appeared to be serving as the senior officer for this inspection party. Janine Aierka was an attractive woman, with golden blonde hair and an athletic, but alluring physique hidden behind her uniform. Her hair was cut in a short, but feminine bob that gave her an approachable air under normal circumstances. Despite this, she could easily turn a switch to appear near-equally as professional and intimidating, wearing the mantle of command almost as well as Aximand could. After reaching the end of the umbilical, the airlock would be opened to allow the boarding party into the ship. The first few ultranaughts would enter the door first, their rifles held aloft but to the side in a nonthreatening, but ready posture. After ensuring the entry was secure, they would signal the Lieutenant and the Lt. Commander to enter.

Lt. Command Aierka wasted little time striding up to the commanding officer of the ship, her hands clasped behind her back as she greeted him curtly - her normally jovial disposition peeled back as duty won over: "I am Lieutenant Commander Aierka, tactical officer aboard the ENS Retribution." She produced a transparent dataslate, which included a copy of her commission validation - standard procedure for a routine inspection per Eternal Navy regulations, as well as their mandate which empowered them to perform said inspections at their own discretion. After handing the ship's captain the slate, she continued: "Do you have the last thirty days of your hyperdrive coordinates, as well as a ship's manifest? Do you have anything to declare prior to the commencement of our inspection?"

9lv2K7W.png

The transport roared through the atmosphere of Zakuul, with the turbulence of atmospheric entry causing the ship's passengers to rumble violently as they waited for the craft to push through. Aximand appeared impassive, his lone eye closed as his head leaned back and his shoulders slumped. This wasn't a relaxing thing to do per se, but he would take what he could get. If anything, it was an opportunity for him to focus on the mission at hand. He had a good team with him, but to be honest, the whispers of dark force energies on this planet made him feel slightly uneasy. Still, he couldn't let his reservations show among the Major, or especially among the men. To them, he was the person to look to for assurance that this mission would go well. He had no reason to think as of yet that it wouldn't, and years of command had built up his reputation to assure those under him nothing less. Even still, his element was in space - not on the ground. The words of his executive officer rang in his ears as loudly as if he were sitting there next to him whispering them even now. Sounds like something he would do. Aximand mused as a faint, barely discernible grin cracked upon his lips. After a few more moments, the majority of the rumbling ceased as the shuttle flew through the skies. Shortly thereafter, the craft would touch down on a landing zone not far from the temple location, nestled between the general location of the basecamp established by Niki Priddy Niki Priddy 's party and the temple proper. The landing ramp touched down to the ground, with the petty officer rising up to check and make sure everyone was able to get up and moving.

Earlier...

Lyssa Io (Full name Lysandra Lura Io), First Daughter of Laertia Io, The dreaded Black Knight of Danuta as she had become known throughout the Eternal Empire after her bloody acts in the Super Construct, polished the golden skull of her fully mechanical brother, Hadrian, First Son of The Black Knight, her appearance molded to look like she wore slim, silvery biker leathers with Black Spikes. He was slightly larger than a normal Model 1, though nowhere near as large as a Model 2. Lyssa often did this for him as a gesture of affection. Hadrian in turn would often bring her holodisks containing multiple pop songs.

The pair had a rare bit of down time since Danuta. Hadrian was often busy refining the training regimen for all House Io Citizen-Soldiers, or formalizing their "Culture" with Lyssa's help.

Lyssa had not looked at Mother the same way since Rhand. She loved her Mother, and had since first being activated, but even she questioned in private the necessity of Gihinnom's destruction, especially with the loss of so many allies and people Mother would have previously tried to save. There was also the fact Mother was certainly mentally unstable at this point.

Hadrian had mandated she take a break after Danuta, to at least get some form, any form, of Down Time. She had reluctantly complied, but she had another piece of the puzzle to finding the lost planet of Khemost, and she couldn't leave it to chance. That said, Laertia respected her children, and remained pretty much confined to quarters, so she sent her most trusted to secure the treasure she sought...and any other treasure they could nab.

"Brother..." she said quietly as she polished his chin. "I worry for Mother..."

"She's at least complying with my request." Hadrian replied in his scary James Spader voice.

"Would you have destroyed The Worldship?" He asked suddenly.

Even for a Nanite Assassin Droid with somewhat muted emotions, Lyssa was taken off guard.

"No." she answered. "I think Mother's judgement was severely compromised at Rhand. We should have stopped her."

"Would she have let us?" Hadrian asked.

"I only know we can never let her go that overboard again. We need to do a much better job of watching her. After Rhand, after Danuta, it will be essential to make sure she doesn't do anything like that ever again, even if it means temporarily relieving her of command.

"As long as we don't betray her to save her, I'm fine with that." Hadrian confessed.

"Would you have destroyed Gihinnom?" Lyssa asked.

"No." he said. "There's a point where ends justifying means falls apart, and Mother reached that at Rhand."

"But how are we to stop her from acting against her own best interest?" Lyssa asked, standing back as she finished polishing the skull of her Skeleton-esque Brother.

"She will listen because she loves us, if nothing else. And we will make her listen because we love her." Hadrian said, standing up in his private quarters aboard the Sarka Class Frigate he was assigned, filled with pictures of ancient battle. He seemed to enjoy woodcutting...there were little figurines on the shelves.

"Countess Belasko will be heading the operation." Hadrian added as he went over to a locker and got out his custom, gold colored DC-15LE with a pearl grip.

"Is finding Khemost truly so important that it warrants a Sub Patriarch, Three Sub-Matriarchs, and an Advisor in command of a Special Forces unit of our little brothers and little sisters?" Lyssa questioned.

"It's Zakuul." Hadrian pointed out. "Who knows what unexpected danger might pop up. If our command is to be respected, we must show we are willing to lead from the front when necessary, just like Mother does. And yes, finding Khemost IS that important."

Lyssa nodded. "I'll see you at the Hangar, Brother. I'll go look for the Countess."

"Be well, Lyssa."

Lyssa left her quarters, passing by various crewmen, both refugees of the Bryn'adul, the Maw, or whatever other faction that had managed to piss them off enough to throw in with Darth Xiphos...which, it was starting to turn out, was an incredibly high number.

She had a smooth walk, too precise yet too fluid to be human as she at last found the guest Quarters of The Countess, decked in opulence, as always.

Countess Belasko, however, wasn't the one she found in the quarters, but the Woman who wore Arianna like a business suit normally...her "Grandmother", The Force Spawn called Vivian.

The elderly, fair skinned red headed woman wore Arianna's long white Ritual Gown, about to feast on the psychic energy of a captured Heathen Priest of The Maw tied to her bed.

"Grandchild!" Vivian called out lovingly, immediately going over to Lyssa and hugging her. "I take it we are about to head to Zakuul's surface?"

"Yes, Grandmother." Lyssa answered back respectfully. She was fond of Vivian. "We leave in the next ten minutes."

"Good. Just as well. I've been wanting to spend time with you..." Vivian admitted. "Just as well we get to go on a treasure hunt. They almost certainly have magical traps."

Vivian parted from Lyssa and placed her hands on the victim, flesh stretching out and bulging and shuddering randomly as she fed on his Psychic energy as much as possible, trying to reach an overdose state that would trigger her full switch to Arianna.

It inevitably occured, and Vivian's mind and form vanished under that of the beautiful, blond Countess.

She turned, stared at Lyssa, and smiled wickedly.

"Why, Lyssa!" Arianna said in delighted surprise. "I guess dear Laertia anticipates a bloodbath, sending you in. I have to confess...I am fascinated at the prospect of watching you butcher people."

"Hello, Countess Belasko." Lyssa said respectfully, used to the levels of WTAF that surrounded nearly any interaction with "Arianna".

"Ready to go?" Arianna asked, clutching her Double Bladed Lightsaber.

"Of course."

Present.

The Assassin Corvette streaked down into Zakuul's Atmosphere, landing close to the entrance of the excavation where everyone else was.

Lyssa, Espionage General of House Io walked down the ramp with Hadrian, followed by Melissa, her favorite aunt, and the more recent joiner with House Io, her Aunt Meleena, and then finally Arianna, who walked like she own the whole planet.

Lyssa smiled at the team that waited for her. The Nuetralizers all instantly stood a little straighter at the sight of Hadrian and Lyssa.

"Greetings, Brothers and Sisters." Lyssa said in her usual, dissonant serenity. "Laertia could not join us today...she is still on medical leave after Danuta, so she has sent me , my Brother, Melissa and Meleena, and Countess Arianna Belasko to oversee and ensure the success of our effort here today."

"We are seeking a hidden chamber within these ruins based on... information Mother stumbled upon. We aren't leaving until we find it." Hadrian elaborated.

"I will clear any magical nuisances we might run into. Melissa and Meleena will assist you with more mundane threats." Arianna added.

"Me and Hadrian will scout ahead and will warn you of any incoming hazards if we cannot directly take care of it ourselves. Your primary goal however, is to comb these areas for treasure and make off with as much as you can carry. Any questions before we begin?" Lyssa asked.

So, something had gone wrong with Mother.

Perhaps she shouldn’t have been surprised, especially after seeing the Black Knight stabbing the corpse of a Juggernaut Ultra on Danuta. While the Siren had not said anything about the incident, she at least knew now that the Black Knight normally did not behave in such an erratic, seemingly deranged fashion.

Right?

Right, the Siren mentally reassured herself, still standing at attention as she listened to Lyssa’s field briefing. After all, House Io would never have become so feared if its leader had been insane, nor would they have defeated the Bryn'adûl at Danuta, Sev Tok, or any other battles. Considering those victories, Esmeralda found her worries assuaged, which had been lurking at the back of her mind since seeing Mother in that state, no matter how many times she had tried to dismiss it.

Now, she could well and truly continue to focus on honing her skills.

"Me and Hadrian will scout ahead and will warn you of any incoming hazards if we cannot directly take care of it ourselves. Your primary goal however, is to comb these areas for treasure and make off with as much as you can carry. Any questions before we begin?" Lyssa asked.

A pause, then Bill spoke up.

“I believe we are all clear, General.” The heavy gunner said. “My team will be right behind you, with IBIS Drones deployed throughout the ruins to gather sensor data and to warn us of any...competin’ teams.” Bill continued, with a sarcastic, mechanical cough. “If the Eternals or anyone else find anything, we’ll know.” He finished.

Once the order was given, the small House Io contingent set off, moving into the pristine, untouched section of the ruins which would likely see intensive traffic throughout the next few weeks as its ancient treasures were catalogued and looted by various actors. For her part, Esmeralda kept her focus on monitoring her immediate surroundings and the data coming in from her IBIS Drone. However, she also took note of the broken, mangled form of a Scour swarm droid, its mechanical limbs seemingly ripped free from the main chassis. Compared to the other fallen droids, which bore marks of carbon scoring and holes seared into their frames from blaster fire, it was a strange, perhaps even terrifying manner of destruction.

“Some of these droids are...ripped open, like they were destroyed by some sort of...beast.” Esmeralda said. ”My energy scanner is picking up lingering power core readings from them. Something has been through here, probably not long before us.” The Echani finished, her features forming a slight frown as she looked over the readings.

“Anyone have any guesses what it could be? Rancor? Mutated Sithspawn? A wandering spirit?” Valeress, one of the Sirens, offered.

“So, someone has beaten us inside...” Bill grumbled in annoyance. “Well, let’s see...is there anyone behind us?”

“The Eternals. They’re landing not far from the ruins, close to another basecamp. Relaying coordinates...now!” Esmeralda said, quickly transmitting the data feeding in from her drone to the rest of the team.

“Alright. Let’s just focus on staying ahead of them and maybe we’ll...catch up to whatever this...beast is.”

The mere basic concept of flight sat terribly in my stomach, butterflies or mynocks, disregard. I religiously felt dis-connection to space travel. If space invaded you personal space, there was no defense against that cold, dark, systematic strangulation. Space flight, educated engineer's wet dreams, was the whole basis of universal travel from point A - B. I wondered, deep in my heart, how many of these educated minds traversed across the galaxy in support of their sheet changing fantasies? I, for one, felt no comfort in putting my life in the hands of some crazed old persons; but who was I to debate semantics. I wave a flashlight, and people go awe, and feel safe.

Even if the Force was absent from me, which in truth was a lie I couldn't fathom, I still felt that metal God descend nose-first to greet everything with a handshake to determine fates. In passing, I saw tree limbs extend to greet us. I saw tree limbs try to catch us. And for some unfortunate few, I saw tree limbs crash inside out like force fed capsules that quickly changed our roll-call number.

All through out the ordeal, I began to scream, cry, and shiver dangerously to a shock to my body; resulting in death.

Shooting up from my chair, moments before landing, feeling sweat drowned; a vision came to me via the Force: Darkness was coming.
