In a game of chess there are several strategies that may offered varied chance at assured victory, many of which are rather safe, and even the greatest minds may find themselves falling victim to the steps leading to that end. Like chess, war is a 'game'; its board are the stars which stretch across the expanse of the galaxy and its pieces range from those individuals firing their blasters wielding their sabers as pawns all the way to the combined forces of a given faction - with the many interstellar governments attempting to elevate themselves to the level of player. Between the boardgame enjoyed by sentients for millennia and the struggle for dominance and survival they have been embroiled in for far longer, there are few key differences - and it is in those differences that strategies found in sabacc, in chess, and other games that such strategies become far more difficult to employ, and yet reward the victor with unparalleled satisfaction.

For once one has allowed a 'player' to set the stage, to walk through their steps towards their goal, there is little that their foe can do to restrain themselves from aiding in fulfilling these steps any further.

A strategy as old as time, and yet so rarely used - Alekto's head turned towards the aberration in the force, in the folding of space so similar to that which had been taught to her by the Aing-Tii so long ago. It didn't matter who had taken the bait, or indeed how many, as long as the trap that had been set was able to be sprung. The corridor that prevented much lateral movement, aside from moving forward or back, was a direct route to the bridge of the destroyer and as Avernus bent space and time to his will, emerging as though leaping from a puncture in the fabric of reality, Alekto found herself only just a stones throw from the place their match was meant to be set - where the game would be made.

Yet it was not Avernus, with his saber drawn and menacing, that struck first - no, the second, the true prize, was the one which gave her reason to continue with the plan, as it was now far beyond her control as her part was nearly done. Serpentine creatures, amphistaffs, were wrapped around her like mere garments, and yet when the saber came for her it was they who reacted first - before she even raised her saber staff, one of the two wrapped around her chest had already snaked its way down her arm and reached out like an extension of her form, its charge-neutralizing field parrying the blow of the man's lightsaber as her own saberstaff rotated in her grip, one end shutting off as she brought it to bare and struck back as she trekked backward through the hall, the tsaisi on her head swaying and hissing with warning - she was uncertain of their experience with the Yuuzhan Vong, but she took nothing for granted and expected no benefit to unveiling any further advantages she might have with their presence.

To the bridge, she beckoned, offering up herself as all the incentive they'd need - though she was certain the idea of taking the ship was as much a benefit to them as it was to force her into a corner.

It moved fast. Much faster than a mech had a right to move. Aerith leapt back, just as the first blade strike nicked her armor. She was able to read it's movements a tad easier, though if not for her implants she would have been diced to pieces. She moved back, having to retreat back as the mech tore apart the ground, and anything that Aerith happened to be behind. She continued to give ground, studying it's movements, watching it's patterns, and felt an opening about to present itself. As another volley of slashes was to be delivered, she ducked under the blade and taking the heft of the axe, drove it into the chest plate of the droid with everything she had. She hoped to shove it deep into the droids' chassis, aiming to cause it to slow, or if nothing else malfunction; least she had a better chance in survival at that point.

She felt an impact slam into her side, the sensation of flight took over, as she could see the ground flying under her. She struck the ground hard and rolled several times over. Each time she could feel her armor peeling away, along with her synthetic skin in tow. She could feel pain in her chest, a burning sensation in her lungs, and the taste of cooper in her mouth. She had lost sight in her right eye, and indeed the right side of her helmet had split open, revealing her cyborg side to the outside world. She could feel a fiery pain in her joints, like someone was jabbing a few dozen needles into each of her stumps. She struggled up to her feet, feeling a bit dazed from the strike, but otherwise alive. She had been knocked a good seven meters, but her armor had taken most of the impact. Her axe was gone, no longer on her person, but what she did have was a thermal detonator and her handgun.

A soft chuckle echoed from the confines of her helmet, as the pain suppressors kicked in, letting her get a grip over her malfunctioning prosthetics. Her right hand locked up around the grip of her SR-17 as she drew it from it's holster, but her fingers worked just fine enough. Her left hand still worked, so she pulled back on the slide, loading a round into the chamber. "From one freak to another," Aerith called out, as she straighten her pose, taking aim at the mech with her right hand, and cocking the thermal detonator with the other. "Will you give me this dance?" A steam of red code began to flood the spot where her right eye once was:

Biotech Ocular Implant has encountered a fatal error:

'//No Device Input Detected// Please contact a Certified Biotech Technician to address your issue.'

Oh yea, she was going to be in the lab for a while if she got out of this. Though that was looking less than likely. She squeezed off a shot at the mech, knowing it was going to be on her in no time at all. Least she still had the detonator packed.

The seconds ticked by, and the scraping noise did not return. She listened keenly, breathing slowly, eyes on the doors. Still, nothing, nothing but the battle still raging outside, and even those sounds were beginning to dull and grow more distant.

Just as Eleanor was beginning to be quite sure that she had been imagining things, that she was simply paranoid, the sound of footsteps returned, this time louder and closer, and she thought she caught the flicker of a shadow passing by one of the windows. A moment later, a confident voice called out from beyond the yawning rear entrance of the ship, incredibly, startlingly close.

"I can take you in hot or I can take you in cold, Grand Moff Lowe. I'd much rather we all walk-"

She froze, the barrel of the rifle that had been drifting ever downwards as her concentration lapsed jerked up to the doors again. There was someone outside. They wanted her sister, and they knew where to find her. Eleanor's heart raced. If they knew she was here, then it must have been them who shot down her ship. And they wanted to bring her in, alive or dead - This was bad.

What was she supposed to do? She couldn't just give over her sister to the enemy, she'd be tortured, executed. Besides, it was unlikely that whoever was out there would let Eleanor stroll off once they had their hands on the Grand Moff. But, she wasn't a fighter. She didn't know what she was doing. How was she going to fight this person off if she barely knew how to hold a rifle?

On the bright side, at least she had a rifle. With it, she stood a chance of scaring this person off, even if she couldn't count on herself to be any good with it. Suddenly shaking, she looked out at the blank sky and open ground visible out through the rear doors, still as clear as ever. She knew now, though, that an enemy lurked just outside. An enemy who wanted to kill or take her sister.

Setting her jaw, Eleanor clutched her rifle in a white-knuckles grip. She couldn't allow them to do that. Wouldn't allow them. She'd scare them off, then the Sith would get here and rescue the both of them. They'd be alright. They had to be.

"N-no." She stammered, barely audible at first. Then, louder, so the woman outside could surely hear her. "She isn't here! Stay away from me!"

Eleanor hefted the rifle, finger poised on the trigger, waiting for the invisible enemy to appear, and hoping she would just leave her be. She risked a glance back at Madelyn, still unconscious at the front of the ship. Eleanor wished she would just wake up. She'd know how to call for help, probably how to get out of this mess too. But right now it was just Eleanor, and she needed to keep the both of them from getting captured or killed until help arrived, all on her own.

Briefly, she considered tossing one of the grenades in her backpack out the doors. But, considering she didn't really know what they were or how to use them, that seemed like an idea that would lead to a speedy death. So instead, she watched the entrance closely and called out again, her voice still uncertain and shaky.

"I-I'm armed. Don't come in here!"

She was deeply afraid, her arms and legs shaking, skin prickling. Truly she didn't know what she would do if the person outside made a move on her. Shoot her, she supposed. Suddenly the risk of being in a warzone, in a battle, seemed to crystalise. She could die here. In the next few minutes, she could really, truly die.

Her eyes stayed locked on the rear doors, heart thumping hard in her chest, waiting for the response.

Objective/Location: Survive - Borosk System, Borosk Atmosphere

Onboard Equipment: PU-96 “Imperius” Class Flight Suit | “Judicator” Adaptive Battle Rifle
Allies: TSE
Enemies: NIO ( Jalter Volff Jalter Volff ), GA ( Constantine Oliva Constantine Oliva )

All around her, Harmony Squadron was being torn apart.

The superior, more heavily-armored heretic fighters had proven to be very robust, all while retaining a frightening level of maneuverability which made it difficult for her squadmates to keep their targets in front of their noses. As such, the ambush had eventually devolved into a furball of high-intensity turning battles, most of which resulted in victories for the heretic bomber squadron. Even upon seeing the heavy bomber erupt in flames before careening towards the surface, Seo-Yun couldn’t celebrate when so many Harmony Squadron pilots were being shot from the skies by the enemy.

And now, it looked like she was next.

Four heretic TIEs quickly emerged on her six as she accelerated her interceptor forward in an effort to gain speed and energy. Presumably having emerged victorious in their dogfights within the furball, the four TIEs were free to go after her. However, unless some unknown factor shifted drastically in her favor, she knew that this was no longer a fight that she could win. Unfortunately, in the context of a high-intensity close-range dogfight, running or prematurely attempting to disengage meant certain defeat.

There was no other option but to turn into the enemy and fight for her life.

Seo-Yun had told herself in the hangar, that she wouldn’t die for the sake of her family. Years of sleep-indoctrination and propaganda had allowed her to reckon with the thought of sacrificing herself for the Empire, but it had never diminished the potency of the love she had with her family, especially with her now-taciturn little brother, who still needed her, even while he was caught within the dark clutches of the Sith Order. Now, within the span of a few moments, she was forced to reckon with her mortality again, and much to her frustration, she found that in fact, she was not ready to die as long as her family needed her.

For that reason alone, she would give the heretics hell.

Upon hearing the missile-lock warning, Seo-Yun pitched her nose up and towards the right at a 60° angle. All the while, she popped her second set of flares. Her flight path quickly carried her interceptor into cloud cover, an effort to create some kind of cover to conceal the visual of her craft from the four bloodthirsty heretics on her tail. Nevertheless, her cabin vibrated heavily as one missile achieved a direct hit. Alerts flashed across her HUD, informing her that her shields still held, but only at 20%. Another missile came close but failed to achieve a direct hit, detonating in a powerful concussion blast which brought her shields down to less than 5%. The cloud cover, in combination with the deployed flares and hard maneuvers had spared her for the time being. However, she effectively had no shields, and they wouldn’t recharge until she managed to get out of combat so that her interceptor’s fusion reactor could generate energy without being subjected to the rigorous power demands of a high-intensity dogfight. Even so, she had miraculously managed to endure the missile salvo with negligible hull damage.

Perhaps unexpectedly, she moved to take the fight back to the heretics.

With the assistance of gravity to augment her interceptor’s turning performance, Seo-Yun turned her nose downwards and accelerated her craft towards the rearmost heretic fighter in the group in an aggressive lead pursuit. Aligning her nose slightly ahead of the craft’s dorsal area to account for its flight path, Seo-Yun squeezed both triggers and fired a salvo of seven fiery green laser bolts at the Outlander, with the objective of striking directly at the fuselage.

The young Sun Guard followed the warlord loyally through the halls of the Sith vessel. For a moment he felt that he should have studied the ship he had been on to get to that unnamed planet the Eternal Empire had attacked. Perhaps deeper study then may have allowed him to more easily navigate the vessel that day.

Those regrets -- if they were even that -- were washed away in an instant. No, the Supreme Sun Guard was the leader of their group. He knew best. In any case, they were there to wreak havoc in the vessel to draw out the strong among the Sith aboard the Baleful. Wandering the halls without rhyme or reason was as quick a way to accomplish that as carving a path towards the engineering deck. If anything, it gave the Sith more time to prepare to give the Thyrsians the conflict they so desired. After all, if an opponent was not at full strength, were they truly worth fighting?

The same could be said of opponents who were too weak. When it came to the Sith-Imperial troopers, the problem was not simply their training or duty. They lacked the drive, the determination, the pure strength of will to stand against a warrior. Most of those soldiers believed themselves to be simply soldiers and little more. When the doors opened and the Sun Guards were met with a squadron of soldiers, Theo stopped himself from showing his strength here, for at least a moment. He watched as Khonsu unleashed his inner beast. The young Sun Guard watched closely as the warlord tore through the first few troopers.

Suffice to say, he was a painter, and his color was red.

Theo didn't waste time when a pair of the troopers fired at him, but as usual his focus was watching the other Sun Guard make quick work of their opponents. Their engagement was over quickly. Theo glanced around to be sure that all the soldiers had been taken care of before turning to Khonsu to await further instructions. Was he trying to calm himself? Unlike the Supreme Sun Guard, Theo felt completely calm. Perhaps it was the burden of command. Khonsu surely had to miss out on many engagements directly to command the greater forces of the Sun Guard and Thyrsian military. Given the chance to let loose, it created an imbalance of sorts.

The young warrior nodded. If that was what the Supreme Sun Guard wished of him, then he would be quick to find a worthy opponent for them to face. With the order given Théodoro sped off towards the stairs and headed down.

UoQqRnS.png

His mind had a quiet warmth.
There was nothing extraneous -- in fact, there was little outside the pure focus on the task at hand.
Wisps of excitement shimmered off the pure path the Sun Guard walked.

All else was ignored, for there could be no distractions to his task.
In that focus a great strength lay, but equally a great weakness.

UoQqRnS.png

The young Sun Guard arrived at the first hallway of the engineering decks. Some crewmen scurried off in fear of his presence, but one rushed towards him, only to be easily knocked aside by Theo's fist. Where were the enemies? Until...

There, just up ahead. A floating monstrosity and a young, clean-shaven man. Worthy opponents, perhaps.

"Are you Sith?" He called, spinning his solar glaive in his right hand as he advanced. "Come, show me your power." The slow gait turned to a sprint as Theo charged towards the pair of opponents ahead.

The void of space was, and always would be, as silent as it was serene - and as calm as it was threatening. Like a blot of ink dropped into the canvas of reality, a shape was smudged over until it emerged with clarity as the first of the Sith Armada to arrive. The Longbows eked out first, like the bars on a flag standard, and behind them emerged the wedged Eradicator-class cruisers in tow; above these the Sith Saber II, Dread Councilor, Erasure, Nimbus IV, and Maesltrom loomed over head as the reversion from hyperspeed gave color to their massive size. The Tormentor group emerged behind these behemoths, trailed by the shield frigates at the rear. There was truly no greater orchestra for their entrance than the silent void of space, for the sheer size of the Armada, the manifested rage of an Empire wronged by its traitors, was as threatening as its empty expanse - and yet, though the silence sung for their arrival, like the highest notes of a piano, there was the crescendo. So deep in space one could look in any general direction and see the faint glimmer of distant stars on the proverbial horizon, yet above this formation of ships there was only a darkness that could not be permeated.

Where these other ships had been mere blots of ink, as if trailed by a dripping pen or brush, above them the titanic black void that slowly manifested as it reverted from hyperspace was akin to a brushstroke. Sitting in the seat of command aboard the Goliath II, Melia did not need to see or hear the reaction of her foes to know that her arrival in such a ship had been unexpected, and perhaps awe-inspiring, for the dark nexus of the force that breathed enmity into the hearts of its crew instilled this confidence - this audacity - into her own. The dreadnought of the Sith Empire's Shadow Hand emerged above its subordinates, illuminated by the lights of the fleet beneath like a terrible silhouette - and it was upon its arrival that the interdictors in the vicinity returned to putting a hold on outgoing traffic, and yet rather than engage in a simple act of mundane jamming, there was a change in tactics as the Zeltron Admiral arrived.

"Begin the playback." She said.

Three words were all that needed to be uttered as her Mirialian officer, charged with communications, tapped a key and swiped at a holographic screen. The Galactic Alliance, though different from its previous incarnation, was no doubt built on the shoulders of its predecessor, as the Sith Empire housed elements of previous groups in the space it now occupied. She had no doubt that there were men and women that had been on the world of Thyferra when the Sith Empire had arrived, when they had burned the planet to the ground - and she had no doubt there were those who remembered the horrific sacking of Coruscant. Jamming, as it were, was the overwhelming of channels of communication and sensors with an unending amount of information - and while the sensor jamming returned, the communication channels were flooded with a series of recordings taken over the years of by the Sith Empire, for a moment such as this one.

Screams filled every channel of communication, the screams of men, women, and children as they burned alive on Thyferra, as they screamed in horror at the rising destroyers from beneath the surface of Coruscant. "Fire." She said, and the longbows did - taking their aim where they could at the forces brought to head by Dracken Pryce Dracken Pryce . She would wage this war with as much ruthlessness as the knife she had wielded into the face of her former superior officer after Muunilist.

If the Alliance and the New Imperial Order were so determined to subject themselves to mutilation, then she would oblige with a smile.

Objective: Make this mission worthwhile
Location: Cassel Point
Target: Grigory Tallis Grigory Tallis

Siv Dragr was a practical man. Any of the ideological, nationalistic fervor that had been his identity in his youth had vanished after his homeworld had been laid to waste, after the genocide of his people by the Sith Empire. He fought only for the coin and for the largest purse, as a mercenary or a bounty hunter. His actions might be considered dar'manda, but Siv reasoned that there were no longer any Mandalorians to label him that anyways.

The Blood Eclipse descended through the atmosphere of Borosk, stealthily slipping past the two clashing armadas both in orbit of the planet and the armies fighting on the ground below. The Sith-Imperial Civil War had turned this corner of the galaxy into a warzone of titanic proportions, and an active warzone was just fancy wording for 'good business,' at least in Siv's line of employment. Bounties lately had blown out of proportion as warring governments flooded the market with bounties on anyone and everyone from the opposing side; all hunters like Siv had to do was sneak into a battle, pluck a few luckless soldiers into carbon freeze, and transport them to get a hefty sum of credits.

Sneaking through the battle was an easy task. The Blood Eclipse came equipped with a handy cloaking device that shielded the armed gunship from visual or sensor detection, and the colossal warships of the Sith Empire and New Imperial Order were too focused on each other to care about a freighter-sized ship sneaking past their line of defense. That didn't stop the Mandalorian from gripping the controls of the ship tightly as he anticipated some sort of attack, but as the Blood Eclipse passed through the atmosphere undetected, Siv relaxed slightly. At the very least, now he didn't need to worry about getting blown into tiny particles by a chance turbolaser blast.

Siv had a detailed map of Borosk and the prime location for picking a target, an Imperial fortress by the name of Cassel Point, but the ground engagement was bright and loud enough to be seen from miles away. He weaved through dogfighting spacecraft of both sides as he tried to remain undetected, but a high-burst of laser fire scorched against the side of the gunship, the cloaking device failing. "Feth," Siv muttered under his breath as he immediately dropped the ship lower, his only means of stealth now done for. At the very least, he now had a straight line for his landing zone, but his eyes narrowed under his helmet as targeting sensors picked up several individual soldiers standing on the platform.

Immediately, the Mandalorian thumbed the trigger of the primary weapon systems of his ships and fired a quick strafing blast, pocketing the landing zone with concussive laser bolts. One hit a silo of engine coolant, sending up a flaming fireball as it knocked out a soldier, and a slight turn of Siv's angle aimed the laser fire at a shuttle, sending it up in flames as well. A blast larger than expected erupted from the destroyed shuttle, an indication that the ship had probably been recently refueled, making it all the more volatile. Siv had to pull up to avoid damaging his own ship, and quickly circled around before landing in the wreckage.

As the Mandalorian disembarked, he checked to make sure all of his systems on his armor and weapons were working, before casting a glance around the platform. Where there had been soldiers there were now corpses, and Siv's biometric scanners confirmed about as much. A second, closer glance, however, revealed that one of the soldiers lying on the ground wasn't dead. They were knocked out, unconscious, perhaps.

Or they were purposefully playing dead.

As Siv approached the soldier, he smoothly unclipped the strap covering his blaster holstered to his side.

The crackling energy of Sith lightning surged through the behemoth, sparks poured over his heavy gear and seared the dark armor black. Still, Venari would not relent; with fury coursing through his form he dropped his crimson blade through his enemies pauldron and dragged the plasmatic weapon down further. Before he could fully assess the extent of the damage the darktrooper dropped with the blow and escaped any further injury. Venari's compliment of floating blades narrowly missed their mark before shooting skyward to avoid their master. With a raised hand his enemy backpedalled into the field of battle and that came the opportunity for the Sith Lord to peel out of the meaningless arena of singular combat and progress with the mission.

Armored boots slogged backward a few steps while his enemy appeared to retreat, ironically further into the trading fire between Sith and New Imperial troops. Venari himself recalled his weaponry and deactivated his lightsaber, turning to trek the outskirts where he might find one of the reported underground entryways. The growing screams of a Sith trooper caught his attention. What Venari turned to face was unlike anything he had before.

"PUT ME DOWN!"

"OH MY GOD SOMEONE PLEASE."

"UNHAND ME YOU BRUTE!"

As the near comedic scene played put before him, the trooper had been spot on with his words. Brute was the most apt description. What he lacked in mental faculties he compensated with in raw strength and an unwillingness to fall among those charred remains the world would claim. Venari reactivated his lightsaber and darted toward the beast. He ducked, dipped and dove aside to avoid collision with the legionnaire. It would be far too simple to simply cut through the man, but even in his most desperate position the trooper continued to fire on the enemy. There was some merit in that. Venari backpedaled a few paced but was caught by a flailing arm. Venari rode the minimal momentum offered by the hit and spun low swiping his weapon for the back of the darktrooper's knees.

Jalter using all his strength stood up and limped over to a different piece of cover. He felt the heat of the blaster bolts as they zipped past him, the fire was too intense and he was forced to dive behind the rock, groaning in pain as he felt the shrapnel cut deeper into him. He let off a few more shots with his pistol before spotting Constantine Oliva Constantine Oliva 's frigate flying closer, surveying the crash sight. Jalter didn't have much on him except his pistol and emergency survival kit which he quickly pulled out. He grabbed the flare gun and fired it into the air, hoping he would be spotted. "Come on, Come on, Co-" his words were cut off by a massive explosion.

Jalter felt his ears ringing, bits of earth falling all around him. The was hell. He looked out from his cover and saw a Sith tank had used the flare to pinpoint his location. Jalter had no AT and was too injured to run any further. He would have to wait for rescue. "This is Brawler 3-1. I'm injured and still pinned down. Anyone out there please provide support." he spoke into his communicator. How much he wished to be in his Bomber right now, flying above the clouds and taking down that pilot who shot him.

While under fire Jalter took out the survival kit. The shrapnel hadn't caused any organ damage but it hurt like hell. He grabbed a bit of morphine and stuck it in his thigh, letting out a deep breath. He then grabbed the piece of shrapnel by both hands and pulled it out, letting out a scream. "Oh god oh god oh god." he said as he felt blood gushing out. Jalter began putting pressure on the wound before grabbing the laser sealer. He sloppily sealed the wound shut, burning himself in more than one place. It was a messy affair and a temporary fix. Without further medical help Jalter would eventually succumb to internal bleeding but for not it would secure his immediate survival, hopefully long enough for someone to help him.

One confirmed hit but the pilot kept going, in fact she had turn for an attack run and strafed one of the Outlanders. "All TIEs break off. It's 4 on 1 we can get this nerf herder" he spoke in squadron comms. As the ships broke off Moon Seo-Yun's shots hit the Outlander. "This is Pursuer 3-10 I've been hit but I'm still flying." he said as he began trailing smoke. Crater and Bombshell would make a wide turn before attempting to line up a shot. Firing both their rapid fire laser canons and two more concussion missiles but their bombers were too slow, leaving only the missiles heading towards Seo Yun. The other outlander though had banked right and as the interceptor zipped past the group he began his chase. "Hurricane 3-11, I'm beginning my pursuit." he said before letting off his own volley of lasers towards Seo-Yun.

Lark skipped through the scarlet hallways, any passing NIO soldiers might die of shock at seeing the tall youth acting in such a childlike manner. He wasn't sure what exactly caused it, but he had encompassed stranger behaviors in the past. But why not just embrace it? As a child, he led fellow orphans in all sorts of games. He walked away from them all, so that meant that he was the best. Of course the NIO certainly weren't orphans. Well, some of them might be. Being an orphan wasn't exactly a rare thing in this galaxy. But they were well-disciplined soldiers who had proven themselves capable of dancing with galactic superpowers.

And that excited the little demon who had once played a much more sinister version of hide and seek.

So that's who you've awakened. After rounding a few corners, Lark ran into a handful of Sith Soldiers. "Just a moment," he said in a singsong voice. "You've been dispatched somewhere. Where are the intruders?"

"Sergeant Lowe sent us, intruders have been detected on Level Three, Sub-level Six. We've been instructed to reinforce the area and eliminate any threat within." The soldier was wearing a helmet, but Lark could still sense a quizzical expression from the woman.

"How splendid," Lark muttered quietly. "I'll accompany you. Who knows what kind of forces lay in wait, lead the way."

He followed the squadron through the halls, trying to map out the way they came in case they needed to make a quick getaway. Having an escape route was vitally important, especially when the situation could quickly turn fragile. "They'll be waiting for us," Lark muttered. "They know we're coming and will have taken well hidden defensive positions. The engine room is likely their target, we cannot let them reach it." He could sense the NIO nearby, although it was such a compact space he couldn't say for certain how many soldiers there were. "Stay well hidden yourselves, don't just throw away your lives in desperation."

Finally, they reached the intersection that when turned down would bring them face to face with the NIO infiltrators. Positions were taken, the rhythmic sirens would soon be interrupted. By now the NIO likely either knew or suspected that the Sith had arrived, and somehow the alarms seemed to grow dull as both sides accepted what was about to happen. "They have a slicer," a soldier mentioned, sliding him a blaster pistol. His enchanted weapons certainly wouldn't be of great use at this range, Lark hoped to shed the opposing forces numbers before he charged down the hallway.

"Weapons ready," he whispered. Reaching out with the Force, he'd attempt to yank the slicing device from the soldier's hands and send it back towards the middle of the corridor. Anything to slow them down and keep them contained. Lark would point his pistol to where he hoped the slicing device would fall, he wasn't a crackshot but he could apply pressure.

Ready or not, here I come.

Sabaton – Rise of Evil

”Then I won’t waste my energy unnecessarily” she said.

As they walked Ingrid all the way in front of Adrian, or a little sideways, but she was still walking in front of him. She did not intend to lose her lover for a moment, the scout was ahead of them, so she only had to protect the man this time. And for that she had to stay close, not as if she regretted having to do so. The woman watched the environment throughout, the sounds so that if necessary, she could react immediately. But until the engineering deck, this was not necessary.

And finally the enemy was soon found, and the man would have attacked at once. Ingrid smiled under her helmet, Adrian could feel her satisfaction through the telepathic connection between them. The armored figure made her job very easy, as she was invisible, she walked over to Adrian to protect him with her own body. She was a few steps ahead of her lover and since the oncoming opponent was heavily armored, she saw lightsabers as the best solution. She took both hilts in her hands.

”Don't let him scour your scout, it would interfere with my plan. If I can ask handsome, make my plan easier for me, please stop the enemy by telekinetic as soon as he gets close enough for me to impale our "friend" with my lightsabers” she said telepathically to Adrian.

She took such a defensive stance that Adrian could see perfectly over her head. She may have stood in front of him, but she didn't want to prevent the Sith Lord in the fight or in self-defense, though she knew exactly that her lover was not familiar with this at all. She held out her hands in an elegant gesture, she was positioned with her feet in perfect balance, her whole body tensed under her dress ready to jump.

Ingrid waited then, until the moment the figure sprinting towards her got close enough to them. Close enough to run onto the lightsabers and not have time to dodge them. As soon as that happened, she activated her two red-bladed lightsabers at that moment. Hoping all of this would really hit Théodoro, and she hoped Adrian would also stop the man so that his momentum from the sprint would not hit them.

Because Ingrid was still invisible, thus, with the exception of Adrian - and probably Kiber - all that could be seen was in front of Adrian and in front of the approaching Théo, floating in the air, two red bladed lightsabers were activated.

Hont was quickly escorted by two NIO soldiers to one of there commanders, going through the building as NIO was battling against the Sith soldiers outside. An explosion hit one of the troops behind them as screaming filled the halls. Blood and sweat and tears filled the narrow corridors as he walked up towards a large room, with a small amount of men running grabbing weapons and the such.

“Look, I am defecting with an entire legion. Show me to a nearby commander, or anyone of high rank!” Hont called. He hoped the NIO would answer.

"The higher we soar, the smaller we appear to those who cannot fly."
Lustrous ions hummed as they ripped through the atmosphere, their condensed form surging wildly from the damaged emitter. Thrumming ripples sounded down the length of the blade as its rigidity bowed against the amphistaff, sending a volcanic spit of dislodged plasma scattering in several directions. A flourish on the backswing sent a plasmatic slop flinging from the blade, burning a cresent-shape swath into the corridor wall. Its momentum slowed back to a steady point, the tip of the saber regarding Darth Alekto with a scrutinous glare. As Alekto moved, the dogged, narrow head of the weapon remained locked in her direction, guided by the steps of Avernus. The radiant blad dripped and ran, spilling hot plasma in a distinctive path where he moved. A seared metallic trail of breadcrumbs marking the way back out of the HIMS Baneful.

It had been a long time since he was
face to face with Alekto, and the changes they had each undergone were visually apparent in the flesh. The woman before him was close to the border of unrecognizable as the one who'd confronted him so fearlessly back on Bastion. Of course, why wouldn't she have been fearless? As far as anyone was concerned in those days, Avernus was little more than the dirt that was lucky enough to rub against the boots of the Sith-Imperial Elite, an utter nobody. But then again, that's all he was ever born to be; a waste of air destined to rot in the dirt.

Who ever said destiny was inflexible?

"Jealousy? You speak like some spoiled child. You clearly do not understand the nuance, few of the Sith do. The Sith speak in the primal language of strength and power and refuse to understand why men like me wouldn't all bow in the wake of their display of godliness. No Sith of Pureblood or creed adherence is perfect, its all the force -- without it...you're nothing. You, the Emperor, his 'Shadow Hand', all nothing without it.

No Sith was perfect, despite what the ancient meaning of the word conveyed. Consumed by hubris, Avernus once though himself and his former kin of the Sith Empire to be the epitome of power, perfection. Oh, how wrong and naive he had been to believe such things. Individuals like Irveric Tavlar Irveric Tavlar , Aerarii Tithe Aerarii Tithe , and even Gat Tambor Gat Tambor were a testament to how mundane the Sith had become. To think that an individual like Tavlar, one Avernus had watched and manipulated for so long, even from the earliest times in his life would eventually grow to change Avernus's own view of the Sith. Humbling.

No Sith, and certainly not Darth Avernus, was perfect. Could the man that stood before and followed Alektos little game at this moment still truly be called 'Avernus'? He was different in flesh, resculpted in mind, and had ascended far past the dirt he'd once been. After all, Darth Avernus was dead. The blade of Telis Taharin-Zambrano Telis Taharin-Zambrano had cut him down and left him to rot in the cold rains of Dromund Kaas. His appearance, his words, even his very presence were unrecognizable as 'Avernus'. So perhaps it should be that the name fades into obscurity and that the first iteration of this being forgotten as the nothing he was.

What then of the individual who remained? The one who chases Alekto to the bridge with one measured step in front of the other, cutting down Sith-Imperials in his way with capable impunity? The Dark Lord once known as 'Avernus' was now without title, without a name. His new moniker would be earned, not granted like the old. With what he performs here, he will christen the new title that will grace his being. With what comes on the HIMS Baneful, the spark that ignites the light that casts all shadow will be struck. A new lord will be born, given a title fitting for his new flesh. What better kindling for such a flame than the slaying of a such a powerful Zambrano instrument?

Smiling coldly at his creation's statement, the telepathic response was nigh-on instant. "Excellent. Staying clear seems logical, given your skillset."

Alas, it seemed the Conduit had underestimated the sheer mobility of a glory-seeking Sun Guard, and so they were faced with armourclad figure before they had the chance to split up - unless one were to count his Karza'Arana, that is, but they waited nearby, hungry for battle.

Stance relaxed, Adrian placed his hands on his hip, eyeing the lone warrior dubiously. "That I am... and to think I thought self-preservation was commonplace amongst mercenaries." Radiating arrogant calm in a way that would hopefully motivate the brash young man to charge headlong forward, the Sith Lord began gathering his strength even as a silent reply was sent to his invisible companion.

"Consider it done."

As the golden warrior was about to arrive at Ingrid's location and be introduced to her blades, Adrian's slender hands would surge upwards before clapping once, a pincer of telekinetic force lashing out at the nameless Thyrsian from the sides with all the subtlety of a hydraulic press.

If everything went according to plan, he would be crushed, impaled, and knowing the Conduit promptly have his mind flayed.

"Sir! I've located that downed bomber!'

Constantine surveyed the battlefield around Hawk. The Sith squadron was being torn apart, with four Imperial bombers being able to chase one interceptor. His job here was done.

"Bring us there. I think those bombers can handle themselves right now."

The ship lurched around to head towards the downed squadron leader. As it did, Hawk's supporting fire became more accurate-and more deadly. It wouldn't be long before they reached the pilot. Hopefully the Marine compliment aboard would be able to save their target. Hawk approached the crash site, now in visual range, lowering further and further. A few more meters and they'd need to deploy the landing gear. the top guns began to fire now, suppressing the surrounding Sith forces. A tank-based cannon fired a shot, only to have it harmlessly be absorbed into the shields. The tank wasn't so lucky.

"You and me both," Hypatia remarked as she stepped closer toward the rear doors. A flip through her hud's views and she could tell - whoever was talkin' wasn't one for fights, or at the very least hadn't been in a situation like this before. Hypatia's voice remained steady, unwavering in its conviction, "but somethin' tells me you're not the Grand Moff." Any First Imperial worth their weight in salt would've shot out by now, chucked a grenade, or at least sent a vicious barb of words her way. This one? Sounded tame. Kark, the Mandalorian thought, they send some ad'ika to guard this lady?
A casual glance over the wreckage and it was easy to see that this thing wasn't going to hold up. "You're in the middle of a war zone, and I can promise you, any hope of rescue is a long way off." At least for now, I wouldn't assume to say that the Simps wouldn't pick up one of their own. However, this is an Imperial - two of them, not like the Sith put a heavy investment into these vinecats. "I can get you out of here." Until it's time to hand you over to the Nimps. Disruptor rifle still in hand as Hypatia came into view of the rear doors, her figure grew closer to the wreckage. Looks like this one's gonna come in cold, anyway, although that carbonite gun might make short work of the ad'ika... Tempting as it was, Hypatia didn't really have an opportunity to pat herself down.
The Mandalorian's t-shaped visor gazed directly at Eleanor Lowe who looked like some four-legged mammal in a state of shock. Disruptor rifle casually aimed at the poor soul, the Bounty Hunter caught a peripheral of the Grand Moff. "We don't have to shoot, ad'ika. What's your name?" Hypatia would prefer to just grab the Grand Moff, and be done with it - but this one? Looked scared as all Chaos, and kriff if it didn't look like it was about keel over with fear right at that moment.

To say that Derleth wanted to be quite peaceful with this interaction, was rather warming of him. However, Kaar could feel the rising emotions, the flaring anger and hatred from this Jedi. The Sith Lord knew what was going to go down. Without a single doubt in their mind. While you would think, that as a Jedi stood before them, their years of training to perform what was called "Form Zero" where upon they would not attack, and attempt to solve the "Fight" without a saber, to restrain themselves, The Jedi attacked as others showed up.

It took only a moment to throw up a telekinetic shield with a hand in the direction of Kaars ally, Derleth. In the moment this Jedi took to cross over towards Vora, The lord uttered clear words for his ally.

"I got her."

Sweet and to the point. Firstly, Since she was targeting him as a second strike, It would be easier for the Lord of Strength to hold her. Second, Her emotions, her raw ferocity with the double blades were flung at the stature presented before her. The upper cut strike directed towards the entirety of the Lord's helm, was met with his own blade.

Activated as the words thrown at Derleth, The crimson cross-guard Styled weapon erupted into a deep guttural hum. Energy crackling away from the blade as though too much power was being forced into the plasma weapon. Djem-So kicked in hard to redirect her blade off to the side. The sudden movements were noticed, however, it was easier said than done. Her blue blade traced up the Sphere's Arm. Barely slicing through the robe like material and burning the skin underneath.

Pain.

Powerful and inducing of the Dark side of the force. Easily it was channeled into this figure. As was the sudden surge of power from the crystal housed within the saber. No hiss or groans of pain. No. Instead, through the metallic sounds of the mask, came laughter that seemed to grow deeper with a step within the Jedi's Lightsaber. Pushing within the reach of the double blade, would make it much more difficult for her to turn it around without backing up, or would require a new stance. That is, unless the woman suddenly didn't have a a chopping hand aimed to strike at the nape of her neck.

A very vulnerable pressure point. Easily causing more pain of the victim, and if hit hard enough, could send shocks of pain up the entirety of her arm.

"So easy you are to read Jedi. Your rage and hatred of us was all too telling."

Utilizing more of the force, The metallic voice suddenly sounded deeper than what it had before. A tone that which ebbed and flowed within the force. A slight, a ploy, a jab at her mental facilities to push the right buttons of the Jedi. An attempt to make her angrier at how easily she could be bested well within the first few seconds of a fight.

The creaking metal faded and the worse did not come, faintly in the back of her mind she was disappointed. It would have made her job all the more easier. Though the bodies were numerous, the woman raised her helmet as the roar on the audio dissipated. She could hear the other soldiers cursing over the comms as more of their own fell. The barrier fielded by the greater force users was gone and two more lines flickered red-more men dead somewhere ahead. The body of one of the sith’s spawn tumbling down a row of ships past. Good riddance. Inhaling deeply, an eerie silence descended the hangar-a single lull in the blaster fire and chaos.

<<”They didn’t cut the gravity”>> Lyra tested, her shoulders stiff after holding on so tightly. Her teeth grinding, swiping her thumb over the saber. The red blade fizzled out and she looked down at the black scorching mark..<<”up, every man up! Leftenant take your men and get to the door now-be prepared if they try something else. Medic, where-” >>

She saw the trooper weaving between the machinery, an ugly scorch mark decorating the soldier’s pauldron and she waved him down. Turning her attention back to the man at the end of her cable. Pushing herself up to her feet and dropping down beside the poor sod, Lyra looked him over once-she could feel him wavering. The pain made her stomach flip and Lyra had to push aside, trying to detach herself as she unclipped the hook leaving him to the Trooper’s care.

Death was a cold clammy sensation that stole one’s breath in one fell swoop and she ran from it all the same. The Troopers left of the ‘Fife’ braved the charge ahead, other teams congregating along similar doors.

<<”Who had eyes on the cloak? Our two Shocktroopers are wasted..”>> Lyra demanded, the threat still looming.

<<”Disappeared behind the blast doors ma’am only caught the last few seconds-got snatched up or something,”>> one of the ‘Fife’ men reported.

An alert from the Reserve forces flashed across the HUD, and ETA slowly ticked away from the droid mind operating the vessels. It wouldn’t matter, Lyra turned in flash racing up the wasted hangar, ducking beneath the fuel cords and throwing herself over the crates in her path, slapping her gauntlets down over the top vaulting. Her boots hit the grates with a solid click as the magnetic force reconnected. Spotting the forward team racing ahead, lugging along a burner. She joined behind them, nodding at the Lieutenant who had given up on the controls, around them a few bodies that hadn’t been vacuumed littered the floor.

Blood slick across the steel, the Legionnaires had been put down and their only resistance was the hangar doors stuck on lock. Clipping her saber back on to her belt, Lyra flagged the man over as they fired up the metal cutter the engineer boarder had hauled in. An ugly spout of condense plasma flickering at the end of the machine. Two of the troopers hauled it up together, bring it to the blast door and slowly and excruciatingly began to cut through it at the seam. Her eyes flickered down the list as she her hand ghosted over her Durin. There were so few of them left, and a cold sweat started to mount on her neck and she burned with doubt.

Would it be enough?

<<”Form up, we fire in and ‘x’ pattern-don’t stand out in the open. Another vacuum will happen, we need to get in fast and reseal the door behind us.”>> Lyra slapped the nearest pauldron, leveling her pistol as the engineers continued to tear in to the door. They had to make something of this mission.

Reign of the Dark

Mand'alor the Undying.

It was the same beskar'kandar worn by the architect of the harsh crusades of the modern era, the victor of the civil war and the man who rose an empire from Sundari across the stars. The Iron Wolf was iconic his reputation legendary as the gurlanin who emerged from obscurity and mercilessly crushed those who stood against him, proving his worth and earning the respect of the clans who he sought to rule. It was his imposing frame combined with a certain gravitas that set him apart from the other warriors. The figure who stood before them embodied certain traits of the legendary ruler.
A brilliant facade.
"They won't listen to you. Not the voice of a liar, a thief." The Shadow Hand said looking towards one of the Iron Wolves who stepped up beside him, the man carrying in his hands a massive power mace. The cold warrior was masked behind his helm yet he stared deeply at the man. Few would recognize what he was attempting to do beyond that stare. Few would understand one gurlanin attempting to reach out to another, yet the silence only assured the wolf that this was not the true Ra. The mandalorian shook his head and the Shadow Hand looked back towards the mandalorian in the Undying's plate.
"The armor you wear. The identity you claim. None of it is yours. But how can it be?" Darth Prazutis said raising his hand towards the Iron Wolf at his side. The figure slowly took the helm off of his head to reveal the face of the true Ra Vizsla, the face he carried into war so many times before. There was no mistaking it nor would there be a way to rationalize why. It was one simple truth that had to be swallowed: Ra.
"After all. That identity belongs to them."

Seo-Yun’s momentum from her dive immediately lent her interceptor a large boost in speed and energy as she shot past the Outlander she had fired upon only moments before. Given the difference in speed between her craft and one of the pursuing heretic fighters, Seo-Yun quickly disappeared into the haze of the clouds, forcing the pursuing pilot to rely solely on instruments rather than direct sight in order to acquire a guns-based firing solution. As such, the discharged laser bolts were just off-target as Seo-Yun jinked her craft towards the left. All the while, a pair of plasma flares discharged from her interceptor when the missile-lock indicator beeped in her ears. She immediately pitched her nose upward and slightly towards the left to initiate a climb. That maneuver, in combination with the persistent haze from the clouds and the plasma flares, fortunately caused the two missiles to sail wide. From there, she flipped her craft in a roll and set her wings back to level flight, in execution of a maneuver which ultimately increased her altitude and left her flying in the opposite direction than she had been only moments before.

As she came out of the half-loop, Seo-Yun set full power to her engines and angled her nose down once more in a dive, which initially carried her towards the rearmost craft in the pursuing formation at a pure pursuit. Although the heretic craft she was quickly approaching was not in visual range due to the haze of the clouds, she still could perceive its position via her instrument and sensor readings. Moments later, when she was less than 500 meters from her target, she initiated a close-range missile lock, which was intended to give the heretic pilot a shorter frame of time to react to the threat. Less than a quarter-second later, a pair of fiery concussion missiles discharged from her launchers and flew towards the bomber, which was now in visual range, at supersonic speed.

From there, time seemed to slow down as Seo-Yun passed over the bomber, her senses primed as she glanced at her HUD for the positions of the tailing heretic fighters and the potential confirmation of her missile strike...

Whether she lived or died, she would take them all with her, either as kill marks on her wings or as companions to the
Mist-Beyond.
