OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Karza'Arana (Angels of War in ur-Kittât)
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: The Primyn Group
  • Average Lifespan: 20 Standard Years (Awake) | Effectively Unlimited (Hibernating)
  • Estimated Population: Scattered; almost never seen except in the service of the Sith Order, occasionally lent to other parts of the Sith-Imperial apparatus, in particular the Legion, usually to serve as shock infantry.
  • Description: A cruel mockery of the Supercommandos they once were, the Karza'Arana, or Angels of War, are mighty warriors all - encased in alchemised armour and wielding brutally effective weaponry, often massive "Ifrit" Pattern vibroaxes, they gleefully rush into battle against the enemies of the Sith, expending their lives as needed to achieve victory. Not merely restricted to battlefield usage, these fiends are sometimes seen as bodyguards to the Sith or their favoured servants, tomb guardians, and the fanatical protectors of Sith Temples.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type III; breathes a strange mixture of exotic gases and obscure poisons usually only found inside their War Plate and the chambers in which the Progenitors and Sources are kept.
  • Average Height of Adults: 2+ metres
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin Colour: Reddish-grey
  • Hair Colour: N/A
  • Distinctions: Asexual horrors perpetually encased in custom armour known as War Plate, few have seen the true form of the Karza'Arana - twisted humanoids with reddish-grey skin, eyeless and shrivelled yet bulging with tightly packed muscle. To those not sensitive to the Force and their corrupted presence, they can resemble droids - at least until they let loose horrid war cries and charge gleefully into battle. | Progenitors and Sources, destined to serve as breeders for their kind, are massive, immobile creatures, new Karza'Arana perpetually growing in tumour-like wombs in their bulk. Little remains of the humanoids they were, thanks to Primyn's Alchemists.
  • Races: An artificially engineered species, the Karza'Arana are clearly separated into five distinct categories:
    • Progenitors: Numbering only twenty-two, the Progenitors were once Clan Australis Ori'ramikade (Supercommandos) taken alive during their invasion of Sith-held Moridinae - following horrific experiments carried out by the Primyn Group under the leadership of Archon Vandiir, they were irrevocably transformed; twisted beyond any recognition, they have been moulded into massive abominations encased in life-support and blasphemous Talismans - alive but immobile, living "wombs" for future generations of Karza'Arana.
    • Sources: When a Karza'Arana performs beyond all expectations time and time again, their reward is a grim one - through strange rituals and vile Alchemy, they are transformed into living "wombs" akin to the Progenitors, destined to spawn new generations of more specialised Warriors. Though their spawn retains their more specialised expertise, there is great risk in this process - the further from the Progenitors one strays, the greater the risk of mutation and inevitably total genetic collapse.
    • Darksworn: Very rarely - and only ever from the Progenitors themselves - a Karza'Arana is "born" Force Sensitive. These "Darksworn" are always removed from their lesser cousins, receiving specialised training to better serve their Sith masters - usually as bodyguards. Though they will never achieve the flexibility of a Sith or Jedi, they can learn Force Speed, Force Sense, Force Body, and Force of Will, with only the exceptional amongst these exceptionals being able to extend their will outwards in a tangible fashion, usually through Telekinesis.
    • Tormented: Not all Karza'Arana are born into their accursed existence - created from Mandalorian Warriors condemned to a fate worse than death for their crimes against the Sith (or for simply being a member of Clan Australis), they retain their memories, their feelings, their hopes and their dreams - but are helpless to resist their conditioning and their bodies' innate connection to the Dark Side. So horrid is their existence, their very presence provokes fear, pain, and horror in those made to suffer their presence in a manner comparable to an unrestrained usage of Force Fear, though the strong-willed and Force Users are likely to be able to shut it out.
    • Warriors: By far the most common form of Karza'Arana, the Warriors are born and bred for war, destined to die for their Sith masters - for every thousand born, only one is likely to survive to become a Source, and even then they are likely to be "retired" if better specimens come along or their brood proves to be defective.
  • Force Sensitivity: Rare
Strengths:
  • Genetic Memory: "Newborn" Karza'Arana emerged from their tumorous wombs with the memories of their progenitors, in particular that which pertains to the art of war. As a result, the average Warrior is perfectly expendable - if their War Plate can be recovered, then another Warrior can simply be spawned to replace them, ensuring a steady stream of manpower to the battlefield.
  • Forged for War: Born and bred for war, the Karza'Arana are strong, agile, ruthlessly pragmatic, and all but unbreakable - there is no order they will not follow, no risk they will not take, no foe they won't stare down with feverish determination. To face the Angels of War is to know death, for there can be no hesitation, no doubt, and no mercy - only victory or death.
  • Mechanical Integration: Engineered to be as one with their War Plate, the Karza'Arana sport strange biomechanical tendrils that allow them to establish a direct neural link with the armour, much like a conventional MMI would.
Weaknesses:
  • Genetic Degeneration: The further from the original Progenitors one strays, the greater the risk of mutation and inevitable genetic collapse. While the Primyn Group's Alchemists have attempted to alleviate this flaw, a simple truth remains - for every Progenitor lost, the future of the species grows ever dimmer and to lose them all would be to consign the Karza'Arana to slowly collapse into degeneracy.
  • Forged for War: Born and bred for war, the Karza'Arana know no other purpose - they make fine bodyguards and tomb guardians, sure, but they are completely lacking in social expertise, technical knowledge, and the like. Aside from heavy lifting, they have few civilian uses.
  • Mechanical Reliance: The Karza'Arana are made strong by their War Plate, but it is also their greatest weakness - they are unlikely to survive more than 5 minutes or so without the inbuilt life support and the loss of its inbuilt sensors would quite literally blind the eyeless creatures.
  • Tainted by the Dark: Marked and moulded by Sith Alchemy, the Karza'Arana recoil from Force Light and the like, with strong bursts being able to unmake them even inside their armour. In addition, they - in particular the Darksworn and Tormented - can be sensed by Force Sensitives quite easily, their distinct taint being difficult to hide except in Dark Side Nexuses, Sith tombs, especially brutal battlegrounds, et cetera.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Subsist on a diet of protein-rich nutrient paste, injected intravenously from suit-integrated storage cylinders.
  • Communication: Universally speak and understand Basic, ur-Kittât, and Mando'a, but will rarely deign to communicate in anything but ur-Kittât, the language of their Sith masters and the language used most commonly amongst themselves. Most Darksworn are able to communicate telepathically with Sith and fellow Sithspawn, but only a select few are able to do so with anyone or anything else.
  • Technology Level: Virtually nonexistent; they lack the fine motor skills required for all but the most basic of maintenance, on account of their armour, with their gear being produced and tended to by Sith-Imperial support personnel.
  • Religion/Beliefs: As memories are passed on to every new body, so are loyalties. Vague remnants of their Mandalorian origins might remain, but the average Karza'Arana can be assumed to be unfailingly loyal, generations of ruthless conditioning and alchemical tampering placing within them a feverish devotion to the Sith, usually seen as godlike figures, with Adrian Vandiir and the other Sith involved in their creation holding a special place in their primitive pantheon.
  • General Behaviour: Born and bred for war, their "society" has little room for socialising and emotional bonding; indeed, the creatures have only minimal capacity for "softer emotions", i.e., anything but feverish loyalty and the drive to prove themselves worthy. Those rare few who manage to overcome their biological programming in this regard are usually disposed of as defective and their War Plate reclaimed.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Mandalorians. Barbarous marauders and a stain upon the galaxy, as far as Archon Vandiir of the Primyn Group was concerned, but even he could not deny their skill at arms - he had, after all, hired none other than Koda Fett to train their Ta'Arana cousins, years back.

Of course, training was one thing, and experience quite another.

When the Mandalorians and their "Network" launched an invasion of Sith-held Moridinae, they succeeded in rescuing numerous prisoners, condemned to a slow death in cruel labour camps by the Dari Council's edicts. A victory, of sorts, though not one that came without cost - bravely serving in a near-suicidal rearguard action to allow the evacuation of one such camp, several platoons of Australis Supercommandos had accepted their deaths, determined to take with them as many Legionnaires as possible.

Unfortunately for them, an honourable death was too good for the enemies of the Empire.

After being stunned and shackled, beaten and interrogated, over thirty such supercommandos eventually came into the possession of the Primyn Group. Inspired by this "fortuitous acquisition" and Taeli Raaf Taeli Raaf 's edict regarding experimentation on Mandalorians, Vandiir and his compatriots set out to mould the prisoners into a new and improved offshoot of the Ta'Arana.

In the end, only twenty-two survived the cruel experiments, but they, in turn, proved able to spawn legions of new Warriors - with a few even turning out to be Force Sensitive! In a transparent display of Alchemical brown-nosing, Vandiir even developed a process to create entirely new Warriors, the so-called "Tormented", from captured Mandalorians - all in order to curry favour with the Triumvir of Power.
