OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Akure Executive Interstellar
  • Model: S-1 Shield Pin
  • Affiliation: The Sith Empire: Sith Brotherhood: Sith Acolytes, Knights and Lords.
  • Modularity: No.

  • Production: Limited.
  • Material: Refined lignan, alchemical components.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Force Martyr: When faced with a blast of Force Light, the pin will absorb the blast and be incinerated, effectively sacrificing itself to prevent damage to another item or its wearer.
  • Subtle Design: Small as it is, one would not think this to be an enchanted item of any importance. It looks like a spooky, decorative pin for keeping cloth nicely fastened.
  • Alchemical Integrity: Very difficult to break by mundane means. You could shoot it with a blaster or chop it with an axe and it would not buckle. It does, however, not provide the wearer with any protection from said mundane means of destruction.
Strengths:
  • Martyr: If the wearer (or any item worn on their person) is struck by a direct blast of Force Light, then the pin will absorb the concentrated lightside energy and destroy itself without harm to the wearer or their other items. Thus one pin provides a one time defence against the technique. In the event that you wear two pins, only one will sacrifice itself at a time.
Weaknesses:
  • Darkspawn: Made from the dark side of the force, it is weak to attacks of pure light, particularly concentrated Force Light which will instantly destroy the pin.
  • Force Born: The pin's alchemical effects depend on the Force. Should the Force be removed from the equation (as through the nullification fields created by voidstone or ysalamiri) then it is rendered entirely mundane until connection to the Force is restored.
  • One Time Only: Once it has fulfilled its purpose in protecting the wearer from one blast of Force Light, it is done and gone forever. You cannot prevent the pin from self-sacrifice and a pin can only absorb one blast per piece. If more than one pin is expended in quick succession, the wearer will feel more and more light-headed and may pass out. One pin should be enough.
DESCRIPTION

The Sith Empire's alchemists work day and night to produce sithspawn horrors and artefacts of great power. Some do it as their duty to the Empire, other do it as practise of the dark side's power over the galaxy around them. In time, a major flaw came to show, and it set a lot of brows furrowed in worry: Alchemy is inherently weak to Force Light and many of the Jedi know it. Darth Ophidia who had seen the effect of Force Light on creations of her own, fully sympathised with the worry and set out to find a solution.

She made a prototype, an idea, unfinished, but with all the necessary components. However, the Empire did not have the resources to make it quick enough or at the scale they desired. So, she reached out to Akure Executive Interstellar, from whom she had commissioned prior objects. The Akure alchemists too sympathised with the concern and set to task.

Now, finding ways to test this ability was tricky, but in the end, the Sith Empire was able to provide captive Jedi and force them to use the hated ability. Progress was slow, and in the end they did not get as perfect a piece as they had wanted, but they did make something that would provide a modicum of protection from the scourge of Alchemy: Jin'Wodasir.

While the pins did not protect against the passive effects of Force Light, it jumped into action like a martyr when the wearer was targeted. In the test, the wearer was one of the alchemists themselves, equipped with two pins on his lapel. When struck with a direct blast of Force Light, only one of the pins activated and turned to ash. All he had on him remained untouched. When the second pin was burned, he felt a slight light-headedness. When tested with five pins destroyed in succession, the wearer felt light headed, then confused, and finally passed out after the fifth blast. The number effect is probably due to the lignan ore that is expended, creating a backlash to the wearer.

It is therefore not advised to wear more than two pins at any time, one should be enough.
