Braze gave little mind to those who claimed dominion over Coruscant as his shuttle settled and he disembarked his small ship. He had business here, searching for a small, stunted life form. This life form took the shape of a shrub that Ko often referred to as his bonsai. The last record placed it within the halls of the Jedi Temple, before the Alliance collapsed.

If new masters had taken those halls since then… they would simply have to tolerate his presence, or try to stop him. If the current occupants found that inconvenient… they were welcome to taste the durasteel beneath his boots.

“Good news, Ko… the galaxy is still a disaster…” he mused, taking in the sights. “Look at it... whole worlds arguing about its ownership while the rubble seems to keep better records…” he added, glancing back at his Keldor friend.

"Not sure we'll find what you want intact… and if we do, it's probably in some uniformed peacock's trophy room... You do realize..."
A smarmy smug grin spread across the Echani's pale features. " This does count as attachment right?" he asked knowing how much the keldor prided him self on the old ways.

CORUSCANT
JEDI TEMPLE IMPERIAL PALACE SITH TEMPLE (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)
Equipment: Guns, of course

Arris Windrun sprawled across the upper scaffolding where droids and slaves (Thanks, Varin Mortifer Varin Mortifer ) were fast at work to repair the damage following the latest Siege of Coruscant.

The cyborg was minding her own business, checking Zinder after the latest blow-up in activity, and avoiding both Vestra Tane Vestra Tane and Meliant Meliant in equal measure. Until she heard a voice, one that sounded a little too out of place. It wasn't the wailing of indentured imperial prisoners or the prattling of acolytes. She looked down to see who it belonged to.

A snow-haired child... Well, maybe a teenager? Possibly a young adult, but it mattered little - followed by a Kel Dor who honestly seemed remarkably cooler.

"And who the hell are you?" Arris called down from her perch.

CORUSCANT SITH TEMPLE
TROPHY ROOM OF THE UNIFORMED PEACOCK

The Emperor of Coruscant, in his brilliant golden armor (which was, truly, his skin and body), sat indolent on his stolen throne. Winning was all he had ever wanted to do, and then he went and did it. Meliant had his planet and his minions and a canton of the former Imperial Palace. But he was still miserable. Still restless.
Perhaps there was supposed to be more to life than "winning." Meliant did not expect there could be much more, but still... It seemed he was lacking something not so easily described.
"Perhaps a hobby might improve your mood, Your Grace?" One of the newer retainers suggested helpfully, obsequiously.
Meliant scoffed. "I await a suggestion."
They presented to him a small sort of shrub-like tree-thing. Stunted. Meliant took one look at it in its little pot and immediately found it hilarious. His retainers explained that it was a bonsai, and tending to them was a sort of pastime on some of the more leisurely worlds of the Core.
"Hysterical," Meliant outstretched both hands, "Give it here."
He took it bemusedly. And so it was that the bonsai, much coveted by the Jedi Braze, became the newest acolyte of the Sith.

Varin stood on the steps on the other side of the landing platform. An enslaved trooper had decided to assault security in hopes to escape. Varin made swift work of his legs, shattering shin and fibula, the trooper yelled in pain as Varin towered over him.

He begged, he pleaded, he even cried for help. Varin grabbed him by the throat, holding him up as he struggled to breathe.

“You wish to escape to the lower levels?”

His eye traced the railing right by him, a clear view of the long fall down into the void of levels, then back to the struggling slave. His eye flared to life as the man began to smoke, a scream erupting from his throat as flames licked over the man's body held firmly in Varin’s grip. He did not incinerate him fully, he left him partially intact, blackened and burned. His screams slowly turned into groans of pain before Varin spoke to him again.

“Then by all means…”

He held him over the bridge by his neck.

“Escape.”

He opened his fingers dropping the man into the chasm, his struggling scream echoing across the void around him as he dropped into oblivion.

That was when he noticed the new craft landing. His body turned to face it as he crossed his arms over his chest. He watched, and waited.

It had been a while since Reina could "enjoy" herself on Coruscant, as she sat and relaxed in her "rented" speeder for the day, just taking in the sights of the karkhole that Coruscant had became. Maybe it was good that she had been captured when the last battle for Coruscant had happened. Meant there would have been less failure on her shoul.-

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

"..."

She blinked to herself for a moment, stopping the speeder so that she could look down at the speck of a person growing smaller and smaller, moving at terminal velocity before it was so far down she couldn't even see it anymore. Then her gaze flicked upwards to where she knew the old Jedi Temple was...before giving a small shrug of her shoulders.

"Not my Gizka, not my Circus."

And with that, she just drove off.

“You think so? I mostly imagined that it would’ve either perished or bloated into an overgrown mess. It was a bit of a pain to maintain with the planet's carbon rich atmosphere.” At the comment about attachment Ko let out a sigh through his mask. “Yes I am well aware of that fact. I really shouldn’t be so hung up about my old tree. But you’re not really one to talk.” Then again the echani never really distanced himself from his attachments. Keeping them safe from hypocrisy.

Ko’s attention shifted towards the structure. Were forced laborers worked to alter the temple more to the liking of the new stewards of this planet. Not too long ago the sight of it like this would’ve made him stick to his stomach. But recently his attitude had been changing some, and he couldn’t tell if it was for the better.

He looked up towards the blonde woman after she addressed the pair. “Us? You could say that we were former residents, and groundskeepers of this estate.” That was a bit of a half truth. Before losing their home here Ko and Braze were both fully fledged temple guards. A job that Ko himself still believes he failed at.

Glancing away from her briefly to look at the construction being worked on and asked. “And are you the head foreman around here?” He finally asked, his tone was rather unserious.

The last hum of his crimson saber died with a sigh. Lysander's chest rose in a long inhale; the exhale was slow. His neck rolled once, shoulders hitching, as if trying to shake away the day itself. Coruscant was quieter these days, not that he minded it really. Far different than how he recalled during his days as a Padawan.

The yard itself was pretty modest, enough space for some solo drills. Beyond that, the scaffolding ran along the upper levels of the Temple, where he spotted another blonde. He’d chosen not to disturb her, though in truth, a part of him wondered how Acier was carrying himself through her apprenticeship.

A few voices drifted from that area.. snippets of conversation. He registered them, and simply let them fade into thebackground. New acolytes, perhaps, for all he knew. Or nothing worth noticing at all. Whatever was to happen would happen.

He wore a simple black tunic that hugged his frame, paired with snug leggings that allowed easy movement. The saber was clasped back onto his belt. Moving over to the wall, his hand slipped into his bag and pulled out a neatly rolled joint. Bringing it to his lips, a flame danced to life, the ember glowing softly. As he inhaled, a citrusy tang hit his tongue first.. almost sweet. A skunky, earthy aroma would follow.. an unmistakable note of the finest herbs from the Holy Worlds. Brosi, to be exact.. a planet worth defending, indeed.

A half smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he breathed out ribbons of smoke that drifted along the jawline. Maybe tonight, whatever he chose to cook would taste a little better. Maybe sleep would finally come.

Lysander wasn't one for indulgence per se, though he saw no reason a Sith Knight couldn't take a moment.

"Nobody of consequence~" Braze chirped, but Ko went and gave away their occupation. He sighed woefully as if Ko took the fun out of everything. "Yes, you could say we were somewhat former management. I’m here about a horticultural emergency… my companion misplaced something precious; I've come to retrieve it. You can help if you want. We're looking for a small tree in a small tray-like pot. Have you seen it?" Braze asked, attempting diplomacy first for once. He paused taking out his com link device before aiming it upwards and snapping a shot' taking a quick picture of her with a resounding shutter sound and flash effect.

“Hm,” Braze tilted the device. “You present differently in natural lighting…” he trailed as he thumbed the screen, pulling up her Zinder account and paging through her interests.

“Thirty-two, huh?” he mused pleasantly. “You don’t look a day over twenty.”

"Foreman?" Arris answered the Kel Dor. "Naw, that would be."

She switched on her comlink. It was an implant, subvocal, to her 'guests' down below; it would seem as if she was lost in thought.

<:"Hey Varin. We've got some live ones by the entrance... did you hire any groundskeepers?":>

The cyborg looked back down... They didn't seem like the involuntary help around here. "That would be Varin." She finished her original thought.

When the snow-haired one elaborated, Arris snickered. They were looking for a small tree? Probably not the one Madrona A’Mia Madrona A’Mia took. She considered, and then shrugged, albeit from an angle that might be difficult to notice.

She was ready to respond, but then he took some flash photography. Wait, was this a fan of hers?

"You know I charge for auto--"

“Thirty-two, huh?” he mused pleasantly. “You don’t look a day over twenty.”

Arris was stumped. Was he... "Are you hitting on me, kid?"

Varin's comms flickered to life with slight fuzz before Arris’ voice came through clearly.

His gaze turned into a further glare as a pulsing headache intruded his head.

His finger lifted to his comm to reply to her.

<The only groundskeepers we have are the…..”volunteers”. What do they want?>

He took his finger off his comms just in time to hear her through her end just barely

<”are you hitting on me….fuzz>

Varin's finger lifted to his comms.

<No, you're not my type. Thanks for the offer, but I prefer someone who won't try to shoot or stab me after a night out.>

He slowly made his way over to the landed ship to get a better look, arms hung loosely at his sides, his frames shadow stretching towards the new faces.

“A plant? What kind of plant?”

He asked from behind them, his voice trailing over towards them in a quiet, calm fashion. Though inside the mention of some special plant had him excited.

Ko looked over and watched what Braze was doing. Snapping a picture of the woman seemed a little odd to him. Especially with his comments regarding her appearance. Like her, even Ko wasn’t entirely sure if Braze was trying to be flirty or not. He was strange like that. Then he looked back up at her. Upon a closer look she did look about a decade younger than he stated.

The two were addressed from behind. Causing Ko to flinch some and turn back to see a quite tall young man. It was rather startling. “Woah! Oh my plant?…” Ko asked before composing himself. “Yeah a while back a small tree was left behind at this temple, and we were hoping it may still be around. Ideally not a withered husk or an overgrown weed. It’s like a small bonsai, a Kand tree, not from around here. It can grow nuts and fruits too.” He didn’t know if offering up all that information would be helpful to them finding it or not. Ko also wondered if this was the foreman that the woman was referring to.

The name 'Varin' caught his attention. It was a name he knew and had studied briefly a handful of times. He did, however, continue his banter with the woman above as he pocketed his comlink device and opened a latch on his gauntlet, keying in a few things with surprising dexterity.

“Is that what that sounded like?” he wondered. “I compliment many people,” he said in that same oddly pleasant tone of voice. “It rarely means anything beyond that~” he chirped sounding almost amused at such an idea. Weren't ladies generally accustomed to getting compliments? Better make his intentions crystal clear regardless, he supposed.

“I assure you,” Braze replied, almost apologetic, “romance is not on my errand list, and besides... you're not really my type...so I’ll ask again. Have you seen the tree?”

That was when Varin Mortifer Varin Mortifer appeared. He glanced back from Arris Windrun Arris Windrun as Ko Vuto Ko Vuto turned to adress him. Braze offered a curious glance looking him over. He did look different from the pit.

“A plant? What kind of plant?”

Arris turned her attention to Varin. That was fast - must've been around the corner, then. Oh well, he wasn't one of the people she was trying to avoid.

As he and the Kel Dor conversed, Arris turned her attention back to the other one.

She raised her brow at his explanation, then laughed when he said he wasn't her type. As if that ever should have been the point of discussion, but she still wasn't sure why he complimented on her appearance. Then, he doubled down on his companion's inquiry.

So this really was about finding a 'small tree,' a bonsai, as she picked up in the other conversation. Luckily, she did know what that meant, but had she seen anything like it?

The cyborg considered. She was actually about to put some mental gymnastics into this on their behalf, until she caught what almost escaped her.

"Wait--" She interjected. "No, wait!" She looked down at them. "Now what the hell is it to me?"

She shifted her glare to Varin. Realized he had confirmed they were not new help. So, they were strangers then. Arris sat up from her perch and shifted so she could lean over and get a better look at them.

"If you want anything from here, you will have to take it up with the Emperor." It felt horrid calling him that. "But to get to him, you have to make it through there." She gestured towards the main entrance behind her.

Inside the Temple were the acolytes of the Sith Academy, Meliant's 551st, and whatever else under his command.

But.

She also really couldn't care less one way or the other, so she glanced back to Varin.

"Up to you if you wanna escort them inside or throw 'em to the wolves, Fire Boy."

Ko had started to describe this little tree to Varin as he did his arms crossed over his chest, the molten eye looking through both of them, taking in their force signatures that he would commit to memory.

Boy, something is very familiar about that other one

Varin’s gaze sharpened ever so slightly as he looked at them both.

ahhh, the pit…

Varin smirked when the realization struck.

“Small bonsai tree. Those are rather difficult to care for. Has it had a care taker since you left it here? I would not count on it being healthy if not.”

He looked over at Arris after she called him that name, a scowl appearing on his face.

“One of these days, I swear…”

He spoke quietly to himself before looking back at the duo in front of him.

“How much does this tree mean to you, ex-groundskeeper?”

Not a question of challenge but one of curiosity, he could tell one of them seemed to deeply care for the little plant. Something that certainly was not beyond Varin, through all his bloodlust and anger, gardening seemed to be where he could truly just be.

“And you”

He looked over to Braze.

“You smell…familliar. Have we met before?”

He slowly lowered his hands to his sides.

The amulet Avarice Avarice wore was devoid of Braze’s person. Instead he was employing a passive, yet active application of the Art of the Small, his presence drawn in close and tucked away until his signature in the Force felt almost entirely absent.

Braze appeared shorter than Avarice; though it would have been difficult to say if the two observations held any connection. That particular Sith had hidden behind layered masks and silver hair, while Braze’s own tresses shone so white they called to mind starlight.

A noticeable perfume lingered upon him as well, different from what Avarice wore. But still… there remained something oddly familiar.

Braze had heard firsthand from a Mandalorian how a Sith had been snatched up. Later he learned more; a reckless cluster of ‘Badawans’ throwing themselves headlong into a fighting pit to pull their friend back out.

The small, lithe, half-Echani figure met that peculiar gaze leveled at him, offering no visible unease despite the height and shadow cast over him.

“You know, so many people have claimed the title of Emperor within the last four years alone you’re going to have to be a little more specific about who you mean.” He said, glancing to the blonde once more before looking back at Varin Mortifer Varin Mortifer . He let Ko Vuto Ko Vuto speak about how precious his tree was to him, if he chose to share such things, choosing instead to give Varin a wry sort of look and a smirk.

“Have we? Forgive me… I must have misplaced my party invite or dance card; you’d think I could remember someone of such sizable stature.”

CORUSCANT SITH TEMPLE
TROPHY ROOM OF THE UNIFORMED PEACOCK

No alarms rang in the Sith Temple, nor did Meliant's soldiers muster for a defense. His halls remained quiet. No one outside had pitched a terrible fuss over the arrival of the Jedi and so the Emperor of Coruscant remained preoccupied with other matters.
His new tiny tree, now privately decreed to be named Hasuras Na-Bonsai, had been placed upon a scuffed pedestal in a remote corner of the throne room. Meliant stood over it, wielding a comically small pair of scissors that had - apparently - been specially made for the maintenance of these trees. All his courtiers watched him with bated breath.
"What exactly am I meant to do with this?"
"You prune the branches in such-and-such a way as to shape the tree," one retainer said, rubbing his hands, "Your Grace."
"Hm..." Meliant tapped the edge of the sheers to the chin of his mask thoughtfully. "But this is already shaped."
This tree, it had been explained, had been confiscated by some fussy Imperial adjunct in the aftermath of the previous sack of Coruscant. He had done a good job maintaining it (so far as Meliant could tell, anyway), but then then he went and died in the control room with ol' Shannic Wulf. That had left it up for grabs once again. So now it was here.
"Perhaps just maintaining its present form, then? If it pleases you."
Nothing much pleased Meliant these days. Not even all the loot in the galaxy. There was one growth that extended further from the tree than it ought to. Meliant snipped it off and the trimming fell silently to the floor. Hasuras Na-Bonsai did not react.
"Well struck, Your Grace."
Meliant fixed that talkative courtier with an empty look that many onlookers correctly interpreted as a glare. The knowing looked away and bowed their heads. The ignorant followed suit only a moment later, not wanting to be left out of whatever was happening.
This was meant to occupy his time? How long did those branches take to grow until they required trimming? What a bore this was already! Well. A new little chore to look forward to a month down the line. Meliant grunted.
"Leave me. I need to think."
Most of the crowd filtered out of the throne room, leaving only a pair servants lingering at the fringes. Meliant skulked back to his seat and sprawled out. He remained perfectly still while stewing in his thoughts, a pile of golden armor on a mangled throne.

As the conversation went on Ko would bring his hands together in front of him. The long sleeves of his robe meeting together and concealing his clawed digits near the center of his body.

“You could say that it means a great deal to me, more than it should really. It’s from my homeworld, Dorin. I’ve looked after it for many years. It soothes the ach of homesickness.” Ko confessed gently and honestly. As a Jedi he knew that such attachments were, sub-optimal, concerning his duties and how he should conduct himself.

Given the recent changes in political borders on the galactic scale Ko wondered if during such a hectic transitional period that he could swipe his lost bonsai from this place with ease. But it seemed that things moved faster here than anticipated.

When the tall, young man shifted his attention to Braze, one of his wrinkled brows raised. Was it possible those two have met before? For the Kel Dor it was entirely believable. Braze had a habit of making a lot of acquaintances across the galaxy, especially of the Sith persuasion.

Varin’s brow arched slightly after Braze finished speaking.

“Perhaps so.”

His attention drew back to Ko as he spoke of his plant and its significance to him. Vari gave him a slow nod of recognition. Oh what he would give to have something similar to remind him of his home.

He watched the as Ko drew his hands into the sleeves of his robes.

I don’t think I trust that they were former groundskeepers, boy.

Varin sighed slowly.

I do not either.

He studied them both closer, reading body language and eye movements. To him they seemed genuine.

“Fortunately for you both, I have a lot of work ahead of me. So I will take you to our “emperor”

He put a bit of a sly emphasis on the word. He did not know much of this new emperor, he had rarely even seen or heard from him. To him those were makings of a soon to fail leader.

“The unfortunate part is that you will have to meet him for it. I will escort you.”

He slowly walked past them, the smoking and smoldering cloak that clung from his back continuously spewed its dark cloud behind him, dragging along the ground. He guided them through the grounds where more POWs slaved over rebuilding the new temple piece by piece, in the distant some were strung up to massive stakes, crucified for crimes unknown and used as examples for the others to stay in line.

Varin’s gaze fell on one slave who had fallen over, the slaves eyes lifted as Varin’s boot stepped in front of him, his erratic breathing now turning shaky, before he quickly climbed back up to resume his duties.

“A work in progress.”

Varin turned to one of his Nagai warriors.

“Keep an eye on that one.”

The nagai gave him a simple nod as he watched the trio continue into the throne room doors, he pushed them open as some of Meliant’s personal guard stood up ready for some form of defence.

“We have guests.”

CORUSCANT SITH TEMPLE
TROPHY ROOM OF THE UNIFORMED PEACOCK

The doors to the throne room rumbled open and the visitors were treated to a brief glimpse of the Emperor of Coruscant slowly righting himself on his throne. Even seated properly, his posture remained slouched and sunken.
Hasuras Na-Bonsai was on a plinth some meters away at the fringes of the room - nearly shadowed by one of the great banners hanging above.
"Oh...?" Empty eyes passed between the three as they came into the throne room. "Jedi?"
Meliant perked up, shifting into a (only slightly) more attentive position. Varin had never occasioned to ask Meliant's opinion on who to crucify before, so there must have been some other purpose to this bewilderingly amicable visit.
"Are you doing tours now, Varin? Did you run out of helpless slaves to crucify?"
Despite his apparent informality, the man seated on the throne held a fearsome presence in the Force. The golden armor served as only a thin constraint against hunger of an impossible gravity. Even now, it fed on the living Force, pulling in ambient energy as a black hole pulled in light.
Fortunately, there was a vergence not terribly far beneath their feet. A much greater meal, and so he gorged himself on that rather than the random pissants wandering around the temple.
Meliant rested his chin in his hand. "Well. Whatever this is, make it quick. I'm very busy."
A casual inspection of the room would reveal nothing to suggest that he was currently busy or intended to become busy at any point in the immediate future.
