5th Fleet (partial)

BATTLELINE
OTHER
5th Fleet: Actions

  • All vessels advance at flank speed to catch up with the Collateral Star
  • Lambda Scouts are withdrawn to safety
  • All starfighter + bomber lances are deployed
    • 17th and 18th Fighter Lances chase and attack K-wings, firing 192 concussion missiles at range
    • 19th Fighter Lance splits in two
      • Two wings chase and attack Y-wings, firing 48 concussion missiles at range
      • Two wings chase and attack B-wings, firing 48 concussion missiles at range
    • 20th Fighter Lance & 5th Bomber Lance engage Heavy Metal
      • 5th Bomber Lance fires 1,728 ion torpedoes at range
    • Makhun and Aolhun engage Heavy Metal
      • Each cruiser fires 200 ion torpedoes at range - total of 2,128 ion torpedoes fired at Heavy Metal
      • Both cruisers bombard Heavy Metalwith their heavy turbolasers
        • Makhun ceases fire after twenty-five seconds due to advancing up Collateral Star’s left flank

“Good to have you Commodore Yorwell.” he replied. “Captain Charles of First Scouting Squadron, though it is just the flagship at the moment. I have been tasked with engaging the CFW frigates. Currently I am drawing them to the extreme left. Your heavy cruisers would be most effective supporting the Collateral Star against whatever decloaks. Keep your interdictor active. We need nothing leaving this system.”

"Commodore Felix Yorwell Felix Yorwell , your orders are to intercept the incoming wave of rebel fighters and to simultaneously launch a counterattack on the second rebel flagship. Begin sortieing your fighters toward the incoming enemy units and move your capital ships into a defensive formation. Once the initial enemy line is broken, you are free to begin moving your forces forward to engage the enemy capital ships."

“Ladies and gentlemen, to your battle stations!"

The bridge of Julius scrambled to action, combat alarms blaring all the while.

“All vessels, advance at flank speed!” ordered Felix. “Form a perimeter around the Collateral Star!"

“Scramble all starfighters and bombers!” continued the commodore. “Fighters are to intercept inbound, bombers are to stick back until capital ships are exposed. Withdraw the Scouts!"

By the time the first rebel starfighters appeared on
Julius’ radar, all eight of its Hassion wings had been deployed en route to the Collateral Star. Based on his prior experience against the Wild Space rebels over Dac and the battle report from Vulgwinur, Felix understood where among their number the greatest threat lay.

Surely enough, there were plenty of K-wings in the rebel fleet, and they wasted no time bombarding the Collateral Star with enough missiles to reduce a small city to dust and cinders.

“Order lances 17 and 18 to target the missile bombers. We must stop them from launching more Thunderbolts!"

The eight Hassion wings deployed from Julius banked right, pursuing the K-wings as they finished expending their ordinances. As they had above Vulgwinur, the Hassions split into hunter-killer pairs, one securing a target lock on a K-wing while the other used the lock to fire a quartet of concussion missiles. They all sped forward in an attempt to close the distance, where they could use their cannons and superior agility to score easy kills.

“Lance 19 is to intercept the other bombers. They can split their targets as they see fit."

Another four wings of Hassion starfighters had deployed from the two heavy cruisers shortly after Julius’ two lances. The second wave of Hassions also banked right, but after their initial maneuver the 19th Fighter Lance split in two. One wing dove to pursue the rebel Y-wings, using hunter-killer tactics to strike them from range with a quartet of concussion missiles. The other wing advanced upon the B-wings, using the same strategy to chip away at their defenses from afar.

“Instruct the 20th Lance to stay with the bombers until a target presents itself."

Finally, the word came. Heavy Metal's ion cannons and Hammer turbolaser batteries aimed at the engines of the Star opened up, as well as their composite beam cannons firing one massive beam, opening up on the superstructure with a beam dragging across the rear of the ship.

The other ship, the Heavy Metal, abandoned any pretense of stealth and starting firing at the Collateral Star, though the angle at which they were firing instead ended up targeting the ships belonging to Felix Yorwell Felix Yorwell .

“Enemy capital ship uncloaked, two o-clock!"

Well, that was convenient.

No sooner had the thought crossed Felix’s mind did the rebel Venator open fire, lashing out against the back of the
Collateral Star. However, due to the speed at which both the Collateral Star and Julius were advancing, the rebel Venator’s weapons instead struck the latter.

Fortunately for
Julius, no Thunderbolt missiles were involved. Instead, the carrier faced exactly the type of conventional bombardment that its shields were built to resist. The Heavy Metal’s ion cannons were absorbed with little effect by Julius’ ion shield, its ray shield withstood the turbolaser bombardment, and its particle shield held fast against the composite beam attempting to slice through its flank. Though the Caragachi carrier’s shields had taken a beating, they still had plenty of life yet. Furthermore, despite the Heavy Metal’s efforts, there not a single scratch on Julius’ hull.

“We have our target. Deploy the bombers."

Three wings of Harrier heavy bombers turned to face the Heavy Metal, escorted by three wings of Hassions. The rebel Venator had overcommitted its own starfighter wings, leaving the path for the Harriers practically unobstructed. Once the bombers entered missile range, the 5th Bomber Lance opened up with a total of 1,728 ion torpedoes launched from 24 Harriers, all targeting the Heavy Metal. Still, the Harriers kept on advancing, for they had another, even deadlier payload they had yet to deploy. Each Harrier had a bomb bay separate from their missile payload, and each of these bomb bays contained twenty 1,000kg armor-piercing bombs. As soon as the Harriers were able to fly directly over the Heavy Metal, the bombs would drop.

While the Harriers drew closer, readying their bomb bays, the two Orikan cruisers joined the fray from afar. Each cruiser contributed another two hundred ion torpedoes to the barrage started by the Harriers, bringing the total to
2,128 ion torpedoes. Simultaneously, the cruisers opened fire with their heavy turbolasers. Though Makhun soon advanced up to the Collateral Star’s left flank and was unable to keep firing, Aolhun was on the Collateral Star’s right flank and therefore able to continue unloading a full broadside of heavy turbolaser fire on the Heavy Metal.

All that was left for the Caragachi fleet to do was to adapt to whatever counterstrike the rebels attempted.

Lek, Grin, Pribna, and Ogos move as a group to defend the Rebel large ship. If they get a shot or an opening is presented they will use their dual heavy prow turbo lasers. If a rebel fighter is close enough (2km) they will use some of their shields to shield them.

The remaining eight vessels turn prow towards Captain Charles Captain Charles ship and start hunting. When a quarter closer they open as a unified folly their total sixteen heavy prow turbo lasers with all available weapon power at the ships engines.

Binn watched the holo table showing positions of enemy and allied vessels while waiting for a reply. It came quickly.

"This is Rebel Flagship Heavy Metal, to Condederacy Flagship Tsolgusk, focus on enemy screens. We'll push forward an-"

She replied "Will do!"

Did she intend to do just that, well no. Turing to the comm to Lek, Grin, Pribna, and Ogos. "Move yourselves into a position to fend off the fighters from the rebel's big ship. If you get a chance fire your prow guns at will. Reveal your weapons at the last minute."

Sure the Rebels didn't want the help. But her ships would show their worth, especially with their missile tubes & Heavy prow turbo lasers.

The imperials were soon to see what kind of ship she had finished designing. She built it to counter their tactics, and that of the Sith. She applied hiding most of the weapons within the hull and even built a cargo version to further confuse potential enemies.

Broadcasting to the rest of her fleet "The left flank has screens, Turn prow on to the Star destroyer ( Captain Charles Captain Charles Stryker II | Imperial V Class Star Destroyer ) Increase speed so we get a quarter closer. Transfer all weapon power to the dual prow heavy turbo lasers and open fire. We will surprise them with weapons far larger than we 'should have' on our ships. We will see if their rear engine shields hold against a sudden coordinated Sixteen full powered heavy turbo lasers."

That was going to be a surprise for the imperials, the Wolf pack was on the hunt. Hunting what thought itself the hunter.

The transmission came through the command center with the clipped, emotionless cadence of Imperial superiority.

{“Captain Renn, this is SpecInt Asset KV-027. SITREP. OPFOR has numerous Raven UAVs flying overhead, spotting for artillery and air units. Advise all friendly units to turn on sensor warning receivers and commit any available point-defense weapons to anti-drone fire missions.”}

Octavia Renn listened without expression, her eyes fixed upon the tactical display as red hostile indicators multiplied across the battlefield. The implication was obvious; the Rebels were trying to blind the Imperial advance, feeding targeting data to their artillery while preparing their own air assets for another strike.

Then a sharp explosion erupted outside somewhere to her left. Dust and smoke rolled past the command center's opened entrance as the unmistakable chatter of blaster fire followed.

She turned toward the disturbance for only a heartbeat before snapping her attention back to the command staff.
“Mobilize the two Stormtrooper battalions in reserve!” she shouted. “I want them deployed immediately to counter the Rebel incursion. Seal the eastern approach and drive them back before they can establish a firing line!”

She drew her blaster from its holster with practiced efficiency, the weapon settling firmly into her hand as she stepped toward the command center's opening. Her eyes drifted toward the fighting to the left, where flashes of red and blue illuminated the smoke-shrouded terrain and Imperial troops were already moving to contain the breach.

Her comlink chimed again a few minutes later.

Captain Renn raised it to her ear.
“Captain, the small Rebel advance has been stalled. Their forward elements are pinned down and falling back.”

A thin smile touched her expression, devoid of warmth. She watched another burst of blaster fire vanish into the haze before answering.
“Good. I want prisoners,” she said, her voice cold and precise. “Ranking ones if possible.”

She lowered the comlink and looked once more toward the eastern flank. The Rebels had been thwarted.

Now she intended to find out exactly why they had come, who had been foolish enough to send them, but more importantly; who was willing to trade their freedom for Intel about the mine's internal workings.

Dayna had barely finished giving the order when KV-027 answered. "Yes, Agent Rhyss." Then the Otherplasma rifle fired. Dayna saw almost nothing. A fleeting distortion. A hazy streak that her eyes struggled to follow. Then, three kilometers away, the concealed Rebel position erupted under the impact. Dayna's lips pulled into a thin grin.

"Yeah. Definitely borrowing that thing." The joke lasted approximately two seconds. The rain intensified so abruptly that it almost felt artificial, hammering against Dayna's armor and turning the ridge beneath her into slick stone. She lowered her optics, instinctively reassessing visibility and—Engines. Loud. Close.

"Bombers incoming!"

Dayna's head snapped upward. Ten starfighters tore through the storm directly toward them. "Oh, you've got to be—" The Tornado IIs opened fire. Dayna moved. There wasn't time to crawl away. There wasn't time to find another firing position. There was barely enough time to register that someone on the other side had apparently decided that eliminating two reconnaissance agents justified an entire flight of starfighters. Fortunately, SpecInt did not send its field agents into hostile territory without giving them options.

Dayna's hand slapped the activation control for the [FAE/U-02 "Eleleth" Ultralight Propulsion System integrated into her field equipment. Repulsor boosters screamed to life. The Eleleth was designed precisely for moments when conventional movement was not fast enough, capable of producing sudden directional thrust and airspeeder-like mobility while its inertial compensation protected the operator from the brutal acceleration involved.

Dayna launched herself backward off the ridge. Not jumped. Launched. The world disappeared beneath her boots as the propulsion system hurled her through the rain. Dayna twisted in midair, directing another burst laterally as the first chainlaser volley hammered into the position she'd occupied a heartbeat earlier.

Stone exploded. Heat washed across her back. Fragments of superheated rock chased her through the air. "Feth!" Another burst carried her down the reverse slope, Dayna cutting thrust just before reaching the ground and transitioning the movement into an ugly, rain-assisted slide through gravel and mud.

Behind her, the ridge vanished beneath another strafing pass. So much for subtlety. Dayna rolled behind a jagged outcropping and remained there for several seconds, breathing hard while rain hammered against her helmet. Her Eleleth flashed a thermal warning. Of course it did. Repeated intensive use could force the compact propulsion system into a temporary heat-discharge cycle, and Dayna had just demanded practically everything it had in the space of several seconds. She wasn't planning on flying anywhere else immediately.

Then KV-027's transmission cut through the noise. "Agent Rhyss, status report?"

Dayna let her head fall back against the rock. "Alive." A breath. "Original nest is burned. Do not go back."

She pulled up her tactical display. KV-027's marker had moved. Good. Dayna's had moved considerably farther. Also good. Raven drones now populated the tactical overlay. Dayna watched several of the contacts circle through the storm, undoubtedly trying to reacquire the two SpecInt agents.

"So," Dayna continued over their encrypted channel, "apparently we made an impression." She shifted onto one knee and carefully peered around the edge of the rock.

The missile battery was still visible in the distance through intermittent breaks in the rain. And there were people moving around it. Engineers. A lot of them. Dayna magnified the image. "They're repairing the launchers."

Her first instinct was obvious. KV-027 had the rifle. The engineers were exposed. Three kilometers wasn't enough distance to save them. Dayna almost smiled. Then the wider tactical picture populated across her display. Imperial walkers were already pouring fire onto the missile positions. The western perimeter had been breached. Rebel defenses were contracting toward the mine. The battlefield was becoming increasingly chaotic, and Captain Renn's intelligence requests continued filtering through the network.

The mines. Nobody knew what was inside them. Dayna stared at the distant engineers for another moment before lowering her optics. "No." She wasn't sure whether she'd said it to herself or KV-027.

Dayna keyed the channel again. "Forget the launchers." A pause. "Braeyek's walkers already have them ranged. We've done our job there." That was the difficult part of reconnaissance. Sometimes the most obvious target wasn't the important one.

Dayna pulled up the terrain map and began tracing the mine complex. Entrances. Service tunnels. Ventilation shafts. Cargo access routes. Anything that might let workers move without passing through the primary gate.

Captain Renn wanted eyes and ears inside those mines. Dayna intended to provide them. "Our shot told them somebody was watching. Their fighters just told us they're willing to spend ten aircraft hunting two people." Her eyes moved toward the circling Raven contacts. "And those drones mean every time we stay still too long, somebody starts drawing a targeting solution."

Dayna marked two positions on KV-027's tactical display. The first was hers. The second lay farther along the broken terrain leading around the mine's northern flank. "We split up." She anticipated the objection before KV-027 could make it. "Not permanently. Twenty minutes. They just committed aircraft against one sniper nest. I'm not giving them a chance to kill both of us with the next pass."

Dayna enlarged the northern section. There. Something. A narrow industrial cut disappearing into the rock beyond the primary defensive works. Maybe drainage. Maybe ventilation. Maybe nothing. It was enough to investigate. "Rendezvous at Point Aurek. Northern approach." She transmitted the coordinates. "Stay low. Stay unpredictable. Kill a Raven if you can do it without advertising yourself, but don't turn this into an anti-drone hunt."

Dayna glanced upward. One of the distant UAVs slipped across the storm clouds. "We're done fighting their battlefield." Her attention returned to the mine complex. "We're going underneath it."

She transmitted another packet, this one directly into Captain Renn's intelligence network.
SPECINT RHYSS/KV-027 — PRIMARY OVERWATCH POSITION COMPROMISED. HOSTILE UAV NETWORK CONFIRMED. MISSILE BATTERY REPAIR ACTIVITY OBSERVED; IMPERIAL HEAVY ASSETS CURRENTLY ENGAGING. TEAM REDIRECTING TO NORTHERN MINE APPROACH FOR CLOSE RECONNAISSANCE AND POSSIBLE INFILTRATION.
Dayna closed the transmission.

Then reopened the private channel to KV-0127. "And KV-0127?" A brief pause. "Keep that ridiculous rifle intact." Dayna pushed herself away from the rock and started moving toward the northern approach. "I haven't gotten my turn yet."

Charles’s Ship:

Charles | The Bridge | Stryker II:
The frigates were giving chase, attempting to close the distance so they could open fire with their forward guns. He wasn’t fooled by their lack of visible weaponry. He had seen similar designs during the Ruisto expedition. He expected these frigates to be armed to the teeth which was exactly why he wasn’t going to let them close as they wanted.

“Lucan, up and away.” he ordered calmly. “Full throttle, ensure Edric and the Weapons Crews have the angles they need.” By extending away at an upward angle he could bring his full main battery to bear and the much of his secondaries and point defenses.

The Main Battery Crews were already bringing their guns to bear having fired off a salvo against the distant Star Liberator. DPT-1 and Point Defenses were already tracking the frigates ready to open fire as soon as they got in range.

“Edric, your men are cleared to fire. Fire at will and activate the Shield Leech once they get in range.”

“Aye sir.” Edric replied, relaying the orders to the weapons crews.

He returned his attention to the tactical displays. It was an eight vs two, also as he suspected. Unfortunately he was not able to draw the rest of the frigates away meaning there would be some more carnage amongst the Imperial Fighter wings. However, it also meant he had less ships to deal with.

Two hits from his main battery on a frigate is all he needed to improve the odds. Two bolts. That was it. The first to shatter it’s shield and the second to destroy it. However, frigates were on the smaller end of capital ships. If their captains were smart and actually tried erratic maneuvers his gunners, despite their skill, would have trouble hitting them.

His first salvo would have to be a surprise. Edric was a good Gunnery Officer, he was probably thinking the same thing.

“My crews have firing solutions sir.” Edric reported. “We are waiting for them to get a little closer to increase our chances of hitting them. We want to surprise them with this first salvo.”

“Very well,” he replied. The tactical displays showed the Stryker II maintaining its distance. He needed to slow down a bit.

“Lucan ease up on the throttle a bit. Edric wants them to get closer for better shots.”

“Easing up on throttle. Aye sir.” replied Lucan.

The ship slowed. The red frigates drew closer…closer…closer. They were getting close to heavy turbolaser range. They were already firing ranging shots.

“Edric, now or never.” he said flatly.

There was a long pause.

The first enemy turbolasers hit the rear shields.

“FIRE!” yelled Edric, at his shipboard comms. The main battery came to life as salvo of twenty super heavy turbolasers screamed towards their targets. The frigates were well within its effective range.

The damage could be immense.

He had opposed the idealism of the Pellaeonists in the New Imperial Order but could tolerate it. He understood the notion of it, the moderation in its approach even if it was impractical in most aspects, but they were Imperials nonetheless. Shades of order were common for some, embraced by some and yet were the very rot that would eventually undermine the foundations of the Order they tried to uphold.

Yet the idealism and narrow-minded hypocrisy of the Alliance and its inbred lickspittels was insufferable. The self-righteousness with which some Jedi and Senators held themselves up high was ridiculous by any standards - now more than ever. They had lost their central government, so they decided to take their proud values and become terrorists and warmongers against any cause they deemed lesser. A petty excuse to call themselves rebels, resistance or freedom fighters or whatever this day's denomination of morale high ground demanded.

Augustus had come to Kessel to aid the fledgling Mahporeem in their retribution for the terrorist attacks on their home system. With his genesire withdrawn to the Unknown Regions, he now held the command of the coreworlds forces and would use them as necessity demanded it.

The Septim exited hyperspace while the battle was already going on. The shortage in Tibanna Gas meant that Tassar was not deploying a large naval force and counted on his Imperial allies to bring sufficient tonnage to deal with the enemy while his warship pushed full thrusters ahead towards Kessel and its surface.

With its massive landing gears the warship set on the already soaking ground of the otherwise dry world. If running spice mines was not enough for the rebels, they also challenged the balance of climate and weather itself. Pathetic lunatics.

Augustus Tassar was the first to set foot on the world, his plated sabatons sinking in deep before he continued. The torrential water ran down his vizor as he looked around and assessed the rather grim spectacle in front of him, while troops in gold and black disembarked the craft next to and around him. Mines typically were cauldrons - the rain probably would do the work for them if they let it just flood the mines, washing away the dirt that called it home.

"Zariel to the right, Astoran to the left. Zaephor set up the center with Jahaeron in reserve. Prepare the artillery. Dark Troopers, rapid advance to the trenches."

The Lord Imperatant moved towards the right himself, a quick thought impulse activating the energy supply on his large staff weapon, the halberd's blade suddenly glowing with deadly energies while its integrated concussion weapon was ready to shoot. A squad of the Eternal Legion followed him, the group making rapid ground, even among the Indomitus Legion, as they advanced into the fires of battle.

The bridge of the Collateral Star no longer had a rhythm. Now it had noise. Damage reports. Fighter telemetry. Point-defense calls. Sensor updates. Requests for vectors. Conflicting tracks multiplying across Jyote Veyr's tactical display faster than she could dismiss them.

The first Rebel missile strike had changed the character of the battle completely. The Collateral Star had absorbed it, but not cleanly. Jyote felt the impacts through the deck beneath her boots even after the worst of the barrage had passed, each distant shudder reminding her that the enormous vessel beneath her was not invulnerable. Shield-strength indicators had dropped sharply across several sectors. Damage-control teams were already moving. None of that was her problem. Not directly.

Her problem was the swarm. The carefully dispersed search pattern she had helped build was gone. Those neat symbols had collapsed inward around Rogue Thunder, transforming reconnaissance into attack as hundreds of Mahporeem starfighters descended on the exposed Rebel warship.

For a heartbeat, Jyote simply stared. She could see the attack in her head without the display. The way a pilot would roll beneath flak. The way the point-defense envelope would open for half a second when too many batteries tracked the same target. The moment when a smart bomber pilot would stop thinking about the ship and start thinking about the geometry around it. Her fingers flexed against the console.

Come across the ventral quarter. Stay below the main batteries. Climb only when— A flash of memory followed. A cockpit. Her body answering half a heartbeat too late. Pain. Then nothing but spinning stars. Jyote's jaw tightened. "Annihilator Two, you're too deep."

"Control, we've got a clear run on the dorsal batteries."

"You've also got three defensive emplacements rotating toward you. Break port. Now." A pause.

Then the icon moved. "Breaking."

Three bursts of hostile fire crossed through the space the fighter had occupied moments earlier. Jyote exhaled quietly. "That's why I'm sitting here," she muttered. No one around her seemed to hear. Good.

She leaned closer to the tactical display as another layer of information appeared. Caragachi squadrons were pouring into the battlespace now, their Hassions dividing among the Rebel bomber formations while heavy bombers maneuvered toward Heavy Metal. Too many fighters. Too many vectors. Too many opportunities for someone to fly through someone else's firing corridor.

"All Mahporeem flight leaders, update tactical packages. Caragachi attack lanes are now marked friendly-priority." She transmitted the revised geometry across the fighter net. "Do not cross their bomber approach unless you're being actively pursued. If you are, drag the contact away from the lane before you turn to engage." Acknowledgments came back in rapid succession.

Jyote shifted the display again. Rogue Thunder remained the immediate priority. "Vulture groups Aurek-Seven through Ten, suppress point defense. Do not bunch up. Stagger your runs." She traced another vector. "Annihilator squadrons, continue bombing passes, but rotate by flight. First element attacks, second covers withdrawal, third stays outside the defensive envelope until called."

A pilot cut in. "Control, Rogue Thunder is throwing flak across the entire starboard approach."

"Then stop using the starboard approach." Jyote's response came sharper than she intended. She checked herself. "Shift twenty degrees below plane and come in against the ventral quarter. Let the droids draw the tracking batteries first."

"Copy, Control."

That one she would have done herself. Once. The thought lingered longer than she wanted. There had been a time when nobody needed to tell Jyote where to find the seam in an enemy defense. She would have seen it before the tactical computer finished calculating it. Maybe she still could.

That was the dangerous thought. She could still fly. She knew that. Give her a fighter, give her open space, and she could still be better than most of the pilots currently answering her orders. Most. Not all. Not anymore.

Her eyes caught one of the friendly icons beginning another attack run. The pilot was young. She didn't know the name. For some reason that made it worse. Jyote forced herself back to the battle.

A warning indicator blinked along the edge of her display. New contacts. Confederate frigates. Four of them had broken toward the central engagement. Jyote's expression hardened. There. That was a problem she could solve. "Control to all droid fighter groups not presently committed against Rogue Thunder. New priority contact package incoming." She highlighted the approaching frigates. "Do not engage their hulls unless ordered. Harass their sensors. Force their point defense to track you. Make them spend attention on targets that aren't bombers." A series of machine acknowledgments populated the display.

"Strider Four and Five, reposition between those frigates and our attack groups."

"Control, that's going to put us inside their heavy weapons envelope."

"Briefly." Jyote enlarged the vectors. "You're not fighting them. You're making them turn."

A second voice answered. "And if they don't?"

Jyote's eyes narrowed. "Then you'll have very good motivation to fly faster." There was a brief burst of laughter across the channel. She almost smiled. Almost.

Then another icon flashed yellow. Damaged. An Annihilator pulling away from Rogue Thunder. "Annihilator Six-Two, status."

Static answered first. Then: "Control, lost starboard maneuvering. Thrusters responding intermittently."

Jyote's stomach tightened. She zoomed onto the fighter's trajectory. Too close to the Rebel ship. Too slow. Her old instincts screamed at her to roll, cut power, kick the nose through and—No. Different pilot. Different controls. Different body.

She forced herself to think like a coordinator. "Six-Two, disengage ventral. Thirty degrees down-plane. Do not attempt a full turn."

"I'll expose my stern."

"You already have." Silence. Jyote continued. "Vulture Nine, cover Six-Two's withdrawal."

"On it."

"Six-Two, throttle sixty percent. Keep your damaged side away from the ship and drift out of the envelope. Recovery craft will meet you once you're clear."

Another pause. "Copy, Control."

Jyote watched until the icon began moving toward safety. Only then did she look away. Her reflection stared back faintly from the edge of the display. Black uniform. Officer's cap. No helmet. No flight suit. She hated it less than she had a few minutes earlier. Not much less. But less. Because Six-Two was still alive.

Across the tactical display, Rogue Thunder remained buried beneath attack markers. The Imperial assault had become a rotating storm of bombers, droid fighters and support craft rather than the single converging rush the Rebels might have hoped to break.

Jyote keyed the fleet channel again. "All Mahporeem squadrons, maintain pressure on Rogue Thunder. We are not racing for kills." Her eyes moved toward the contacts representing Binn's approaching frigates, then toward the Caragachi lanes around Heavy Metal.

"We isolate. We suppress. We keep their ships from helping each other." She paused. "Anyone who empties their magazines chasing glory gets to explain it to me personally."

Several acknowledgments came back. One pilot offered: "Understood, Ghostfield."

Jyote froze for half a second. The callsign hit harder than she expected. Once it had belonged over open comms and flashing targeting scopes. Once it meant she was out there with them. Her hand hovered over the transmitter. Then she keyed it. "Good."

Her gaze returned to the tactical display. "Now make them wish we were only trying to kill them."

R'ayne Asara R'ayne Asara 's saber wasn't like anything Aperion had ever seen. It radiated corruption, much like its user. While her provocations were futile, they held some truth: he would be in a bad position if forced to merely defend. If he truly wanted to stall her, it would be by brute force. Vaapad it was.

Her saber was clearly unstable. It wouldn't be long until Aperion had a basic plan devised: other than that, he would have to trust his feelings, and use her corruption against herself. As he raised his purple lightsaber to the sky, so that Garrion Der Rædwulf Garrion Der Rædwulf could prepare the bombardment, Aperion thought to Eater:

Eater, consume her lightsaber's energy, Aperion thought.

Wh- what?

Trust me. As the Polydroxon would adopt the classic Vaapad position - a one-handed high guard with the blade held horizontally above the head and pointed to the side, half-twisted body - he would immediately dash around the Sith. Vaapad was much more circular than the other forms. By attacking while leaping around her, Aperion wasn't prioritising hitting her. Rather, he was hoping she would dodge or defend herself. In other words, he was testing her expertise in lightsaber combat, and which form she used.

Aperion used the force to make all his movements as fast as possible. That, plus Chef's ongoing battle meditation would be more than enough to make him seem as fast as lightning. The first attack was instantly after the dash: a circular, vertical downwards motion against her left arm and left leg. If blocked, Aperion would continue the lightsaber's circular movement against her saber. From what would be his mouth, a silver liquid is 'spat' -more propelled than spat, really- on her eyes. The moment it got over her face, it would suddenly start its path to her eyes, solidifying on them to blind the Sith.

Dashing by her, Aperion would utilize the same motion diagonaly against 3 of her soldiers' necks -if the bombing didn't occur, he would have to kill as much of the enemy as possible, even if it meant the Sith Lady would now mobilise those warriors. Survival was always optional for him, if the main objective was achieved.

Not a great idea to leave me alone, Ape..., Eater would think to Aperion, doing as she could to suck the lightsaber's energy dry with her species' ability. She came starving to the battle: she only hoped she could get full before getting killed... Oh, well, sometimes you have to dare to win.

-

The Resistance's position got penetrated by the enemy. This means the Bacta Brigade had to act as soon as possible - well, what remained of the Bacta Brigade: Doc, Dace and Shield. There were still very few injured, which meant Chef would not be disturbed. Her battle meditation was fortifying all of the Bacta Brigade and the men surrounding them. Shield specially felt the morale and resistance boost as he relentlesly transported the injured to improvised acommodations inside the mine while Dace and Doc worked on stabilising them.

Dace had no experience whatsoever in medicine and healing. Not on his own, at least. But Doc and Dace had something special - one's knowledge was the other's, too, such strong symbiotic connection they had. With that, as Doc sterilised their wounds by eating any bacteria, disease and viruses around, Dace would apply an herbal paste, made by Chef beforehand, on their injuries. Soon enough, all wounded were stabilised.

"Chef'z meditation'z working wonderz on me, I gotta say", said Shield, leaving the last wounded soldier on the provisional medical camp, totally sterilised by Doc's actions.

"Let's hope Ape and Eater are feeling it as well...", Dace sighed. The two of them were alone against plenty of people, from what he could see in Garrion's barrack.

More than hope, I have faith in them. Don't you, Dace, dear?, Doc's comforting mental voice could only be heard by those in the Bacta Brigade. And yet, it was enough to calm their tenseness. As he treated the last wounded, he said: From Wild Space to the Core...

"The Bacta Brigade is the best of all"
"The Bacta Brigade iz the bezt of all!", they both said in unison, a mantra they cultivated among themselves that only now, in the heat of battle, could be externalised.

Yes, we are.

I felt the rare shapeshifter before I saw him; the Force twisting around his approach as though some unseen rotting fingers had plucked him from reality and hurled him toward his nightmares.

He came like lightning given polished denantium, his chosen form carrying him in those violent, circular arcs as he dashed around me, his movements accelerated by the Force and sharpened further by an unknown source; yet I refused to answer his examination with the predictable language of lightsaber combat.

I did not ignite my lightsaber.

Instead, I stepped aside from his first descending cut, the blade passing where my left arm and leg had been a heartbeat before, and then slipped beneath the continuation of his circular assault, watching rather than reacting as three of my Draconis Order where targeted; one caught by his saber and was struck down where the armor didn't protect him, or her.

The warrior fell without a cry, but the remaining two Drakonis, along with the entire assembly did not hesitate; their conditioning devoured fear, and every black and white demon immediately pivoted toward the entity, weapons rising as disciplined blaster fire erupted toward the Jedi, pitting him against a concentrated rate of blaster fire intended on ending his existence in seconds.

Then something brushed against my senses.

Something hungry.

Something hollow.

Turning my head, I saw something born from a forbidden rabbit farm eyeing my lightsaber and attempting to drain its energy for its own desperate appetite; a creature that had arrived at the battlefield starving and intended to leave sated off my weapon.

I extended one hand toward
{Eater}, and the Force answered with a shriek of invisible violence; blue-white lightning erupted from my fingertips and poured toward the {Eater} in a murderous wave, illuminating the battlefield in the ghastly brilliance of a dying star, while simultaneously my Draconis Order immediately split their attention, directing their fire toward this new threat {Eater}, pitting it against blaster fire and near point blank Sith lightning.

Finally, I turned my full attention toward this Silver Acrobat while my soldiers kept up their firing on both fronts.

Had his entire actions been meant to study me, to discover whether I favored defense, aggression, or some hidden variation of the forms because Jedi, after all, are predictable in that capacity; but my refusal to engage would be his mistake in uncertainty.

I had not been studying his technique; I had been quickly studying him, measuring the rhythm beneath his speed, the intent beneath every circular strike, and the willingness within him to sacrifice anything, apparently even a furry friend, to accomplish his objective.

A smiled crept across my black lips beneath my veil as the Draconis Order continued their concentrated fire on both the
{Eater} and this lightsaber wielding pest; their genetically conditioned obedience attempting to transform the situation into my favour.

I ignited my lightsaber at last, and the dark mahogany blade erupted from its hilt with the sound of a dying star being torn open, bathing my hands in its eerie glow of the Dark Side and swirling mist; then I walked toward the silver man, crossing the distance between us with long, calculated steps, slipping through the ranks of the Drakonis Order as their blaster rifles continued to thunder past me toward him, my warriors parting instinctively around their Master without breaking formation.

The moment I passed them, the Drakonis turned as one, their conditioned minds accepting the new priority without hesitation, and they unleashed their entire combined fury upon the
{Eater}, leaving the silver man now isolated amid the dark mahogany smoke swirling off my blade and myself.

I stopped directly before him, my blade humming between us like the enraged heartbeat of some ancient cosmic horror, and stared into whatever passed for his eyes as the battlefield seemed to fall away into silence; there would be no soldiers between us now, no distractions, no convenient targets, no surprises; only this silver man and myself, face to face beneath the shadow of watchful gods.

GENERAL GARRION
OBJECTIVE II

PRIOR MISSIONS
- Stall the enemy advance
[Success]
- Retaliate [T.B.D.]

CURRENT MISSION: Hold the line.

After the grenade volley and synchronized fire, Garrion would notice over the trenches that more hostiles were approaching, specifically the presence of darktroopers took him by surprise. He wasn't fully familiar with the droids, though he'd heard the stories. If these were allowed to breach the trench, critical time would be wasted by Garrion and his men attempting to neutralize them, meaning more Imperials would be able to flood into the position and force them back regardless.

"Refocus turbolaser fire onto the advancing enemy! SHRED THEIR DROIDS TO SCRAPMETAL!" He ordered between blasts of his own rifle.
Fortunately, the four turbolaser cannons hadn't yet been eliminated, allowing them to fire down from their elevated positions onto the tide of new arrivals to the battlefield, creating large craters in the process as they hammered down, creating poor traversal territory for the advancing walkers.
With allied armor focusing on the enemy walkers, the cannons were better used as a deterrent against the infantry advance, a means of buying time.

"I want a team sent back into the mine, make sure every entrance is sealed and guarded, capable of notifying us if the enemy has uncovered or breached them. The last thing we need is to find out they've had scouts waiting for us on the inside." He relayed the order to one of his Lieutenants, who then put together a squad for just that purpose. As they made their way into the mine, Garrion and the defense would continue to provide covering fire.

Then, out of the corner of his eye, he'd caught it: Aperion's lightsaber, or so he presumed, given it was the direction he'd migrated to. Going back under cover he'd inquire to his Lieutenant:
"Have Kalit and our engineers repaired any of our missile launchers?"

"Yes sir, we've got three back online. We're unsure if the others can be fully repaired."

"Then we'll have to make do. Send a missile towards Aperion, and give it a timer. Have it detonate the exact second it makes it to his position rather than physical impact, I don't wish to invite any force trickery."

Garrion thought for a moment, looking outward and onto the battlefield.
"Prepare the rest of the missiles for our next salvo, yet do not fire until I give you the order."

With that, Garrion felt a sense of control return, though his position remained untenable. The Western fortifications had been breached, and they were still currently engaging enemy infantry. If it wasn't yet time to fall back, they needed to fortify what they could.

"Deploy our Infantry turrets!" He ordered, and with it several small turrets found themselves placed behind the sandbags and durasteel walls, providing consistent fire on the enemy which'd dared to probe their trenches.
Fighting like cornered animals, the rebels were determined, even still, to hold their positions. Though it wouldn't keep up forever, the least they could do was continue to drain the enemy of their manpower.

ACTION SUMMARY:
  • The four turbolaser cannons placed on elevated positions near the missile launchers begin commencing fire on Augustus Tassar Augustus Tassar 's darktroopers & advancing infantry, creating craters in the process which serve to make for poor walking territory and make continued use of advancing vehicles ineffective.
  • Garrion sends a small team into the mine to ensure all entrances remain locked down and secured, able to inform the defense if the enemy has breached their rear in preparation for what is to be a fallback relatively soon.
  • 3 of the 6 missile launchers have been brought back online, with the other 3 likely too damaged to repair. Garrion orders one of the launchers to send a missile towards Aperion Aperion following his signal, set with a timer to detonate once it reaches his position rather than making physical impact. The rest of the missiles are readied for another volley, yet are not fired.
  • The defense employs the use of Infantry turrets as a means of sustaining continued fire on the enemy within the trenches outside the mine.

Lek, Grin, Pribna, and Ogos move as a group to defend the Rebel large ship. If they get a shot or an opening is presented they will use their dual heavy prow turbo lasers. If a rebel fighter is close enough (2km) they will use some of their shields to shield them. (they continue this operation)

The remaining eight vessels prow towards Captain Charles Captain Charles ship and start hunting. After Delta shielding (using back line vessels shields to take the hit) The group concentrates on a single engine with all the ships not needing shields at the moment channeling that energy as well into the quick volleys.

Eight Discord misses are fired towards the Star Destroyers Shield domes. Leaving most likely some of the buzz droids to make their target.

rYtFon7.png

Binns group kept a loose formation to be able to concentrate fire on a single spot of the Star destroyers engines. She had fought with Imperials, she broke bread with Imperials... she had called some friends. But those days were gone. She had built these ships to go hunting.

Binn stepped onto the holo projector plate "Ease up when we close to the edge of the proper fire distance. Prepare shield formation Delta. Crank the Heavy Turbolasers to full."

The thing about Imperials is they are all rigid in their doctrine. The Star Destroyer slowed as she expected, then fired.

Normally These shots would make Imperials happy. Instead it will make them dismayed. Using the shield projections the rear Frigates use their shields to block the shots and recharge.

All Sixteen of the Heavy Turbo Lasers concentrate fire at the Star Destroyers larger closer rear engine. Frigates not needing their shields channeling that energy into their shots as well for the moment. Just eight fast flying Discord missiles are launched at the shield domes direction.

Binn was intent on making the Imperials know she was hunting them, not the other way around.

Fleet Comp:
Objective One:
Beartrap
Zoro watched as his initial barrage fell mostly on deaf ears, instead hitting Felix Yorwell Felix Yorwell 's ships.

It would be a new target, but one that would ensure a more guaranteed victory.

Soon after, bombers became a problem. Luckily for Zoro, the Rebellion III had more than enough to deal with them. Before they even reached missile range, Flak Cannons with proximity fuse rounds opened up on the bombers, tracking them the whole way with a river of plasma and shrapnel. The missiles were, for the most part, eaten up by focused fire point defense guns, rapidly switching targets to whittle it down from 1700 to just over 400, hitting the ion shields in a rolling barrage.

But the Rebellion III's were built to be battleships. Their shields were composites, rather than layers. Still, the bombs were too close for comfort.

"Sir, the Heavy Metal is taking a beating."

"What are our shields at?"

"86-no, 87 percent."

"Hit them with our full broadside. The Heavy Metal will hold."

"...aye sir."

"Radar, put out a call over hyperwave to Kessari Vorn Kessari Vorn . We need reinforcement. Gunner, prep Missile Pods for Thunderbolt Barrage."

"Aye sir!"

Zoro looked at the bombers as they flew past his bridge. For a moment, he wondered if victory had slipped from his grasp.

No.

They'd pull victory from the jaws of defeat.

The bombers were beset by the port missile pods as they flew over the ship, the starboard ones focused elsewhere.

Sure enough, the missile batteries and mass drivers of the Rogue Thunder turned, aiming for the fleet carrier they'd already engaged. 160 Thunderbolt rockets streaked through the air, while 45 heavier Thunderbolt armed shells blasted out from the triple barreled mass drivers.

The Beam cannons switched targets as well, aiming at the Caeser, aiming right at the neck to whittle down it's remaining shields. The ion cannons of the Rebellion III aimed right at the main body of the ship, aiming for the heavy ship's back.

If they could break the fleet carrier, cohesion of the enemy fleet would falter.
z5cR1Ol.png

The K-wings of Dragon Squadron were watching with baited breath as their thunderbolts impacted the massive ship. With hope, it would leave their shields crippled.

"Impact confirmed!"

The crew cheered, before another voice popped up.

"Target lock! Incoming fighters!"

"Turn to port, get us back to the Rogue Thunder! Gunners, flak wall!"

The two rotating turrets of the K-wings swung around, throwing a wall of flak from it's six guns to catch any incoming missiles. If the enemy fighters wanted to secure the kill, they'd have to close distance.

Sure enough, they did, but the K-wings weren't gonna go down without a fight. Those same flak batteries now switched to direct fire rounds, aiming with targeted precision to hit the hassion's. Soon enough, wing after wing started making it back to the Rogue Thunder. They'd need time to rearm, but that was enough for now.

The Y-wings on the other hand, didn't have the same flak cannons. Instead, it was a wall of targeted particle fire. Fourteen barrels guns on each, with droid-assisted firing solutions, hitting missiles dead out of the sky.

The Rebels had planned for this. The culimination of Si Tech's building strategy since the days of the Alliance. What had been originally planned to fight Sith, now used against Imperial Tech.

As for the B-wings?

The same moment the Hassions got a target lock on them, they found themselves target locked as well. The B-wings swung around, at first firing quad chainlaser fire at long range towards the Hunter, then flipping around just in time to open up with it's extreme range ion cannons at the killer. The quartets of missiles disabled by the B-wings MDTs, as they opened up in turn with turbolaser fire.

z5cR1Ol.png

As the bombers passed over, explosions rocked the superstructure. But it wasn't enough. Not enough to break the shields. Even with everything hitting it, the captain of the Heavy Metal didn't panic.

"Shields are holding for the moment, sir."

"I know."

"Returning fire sir."

The bombers were opened up by anti-starship missiles, and heavy point defense guns. Unlike the automated systems of the imperials, even when jammed, the point defense guns were manned by skilled gunners who focused on tracking through eyesight. And with the shields still up, the imperial's attempts to focus on destroying their defensive guns and missile pods were ineffective.

Thus, the turnabout began. The Heavy Metal began launching it's fighter compliment, X-wings focusing fire on the fighter-bombers that could impede any immediate complications, while the B-wings that launched in turn opened up on the retreating, now empty bombers.

The rebels still had a few tricks up their sleeve, and it was only a matter of time before their reinforcements arrived.
Fleet Actions:
Both Rebellion III's take heavy fire.
Rogue Thunder returns fire on the Caeser, opening up with thunderbolt missiles and mass driver rounds.
RT's bomber compliments wards off incoming attack, some managing to land back on the RT.
Heavy Metal holds firm against the bomber strike, using manual fire to hit the incoming bombers.
HM launches fighters to hit back.

Objective II:
Dust In the Wind
Unit Comp:
Hydra Command Company:
Firestorm" Walker Company
"Helldiver" Marines Company:
Gress watched the battlefield with a fire in his eyes.

"Incoming U-wings!"

Two APCs had gotten a lock on the U-wings long before they got anywhere near the three superwalkers. Wire-guided anti-starship missiles streaked out, before they were immediately followed by heavy chainlaser and proximity fuse flak fire. The third, instead, focused on the Ties that were focusing on their Tornado IIs.

That, on top of the two walkers' own defenses, should be more than enough to knock the U-wings out of the sky.

"Have the Tigers go into siege mode." Gress said casually as the incoming threat was dealt with. "With the trenches breaking, we need to fortify our position."

"Copy sir."

"And Phones? Tell Garrion to pull back a portion of his forces into the mines. We'll hold the line as long as our armor will allow, but we won't be intimidated into a retreat. Get Ysennia Lee Ysennia Lee to swing that air assault company around and flank them. I want Midnight Train prepping for evac."

"Aye sir. Sending to Garrion and Ysennia."

"Gunners. Full barrage."

"Aye sir!"

The eight guns of the Sphinx opened up, alongside the guns of the Stone Lion and the Nexus.

The objective was no longer targetted fire. It was carpet bombing.

Turbolaser fire rained down on the imperial positions. From guns ripped off a frigate designed to kill individual targets, to superheavy guns designed to flatten city blocks, the imperial formation would find plasma bolts raining alongside the torrential storm.

z5cR1Ol.png

"Report from the Cerberus! We're entering siege mode!"

"Copy!"

The Tiger walkers shifted position. Lowering their chassis' into the trench, the only thing left poking above their trench line, was their main guns. That, and what came next. Bubble deflector shields deployed, filling in the gaps in the wall that had been created by Orinn Darge Orinn Darge 's team.

Of which, were turned on by the Bobcat walkers that turned, and opened fire with heavy blaster cannons.

The Thundercats and Tigers kept the barrage coming, focusing direct fire weapons on the AT-ATs, Thunderbolt mortar and mass driver rounds hitting the shield walker's again and again.

The heavy grenade launchers and flak cannons opened up on the stormtroopers of Aurelian Sigismund Aurelian Sigismund 's troops, while the Cougars and Pumas opened up with mass drivers on Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane 's lighter walkers.

z5cR1Ol.png

High above, the Tornados pushed into the storm itself to break away from the strange Tie variants that seemed to be chasing them. The electrical discharges wouldn't hurt the walkers below, but it would hurt a highly tuned fighter.

Then they dove, bringing the fighters behind them with them as they attempted to chase. A loop that would bring the fighters right into the cross-fire of the Birdcatchers and Lynxes below, targeted flak and laser cannon fire, opening up on the strange Tie-X-wings.

While the design would fool inexperienced gunners, the Hellstompers didn't have those. Not anymore. Rather, the gunners relied on drilled target identification, and AR tech that tracked every friendly unit on the battlefield.

These weren't on their list.

As the Tornados dove, they opened up with their chainlasers again on the Shadow AT-ATs of Lothar Braeyek Lothar Braeyek , while also dropping their bomb payloads on the enemy formation. Four two thousand pound bombs dropped from each of the ten fighter bombers, forty massive explosions rocking the front line of the imps.

She felt it.

The tug of several new forces, trying to pull the tornado away from her.

But they were knights. More importantly, they were imperial knights. They saw the Force as a tool. They pushed with a force blunted by that philosophy. Jonyna saw the Force as a friend. She wasn't pushing it to do anything. She was asking nicely.

The tornado lifted, only for a second, and a third to form in it's place. Twin funnels, raking across the front line. Both intensifying beyond anything they had before.

The Force was not a tool. You couldn't push it to do anything. It did what it wanted.

Meanwhile, the lightning arced across the sky, targetting both the U-wings on approach, and the Ties above.

The walkers would absorb it, but it wouldn't help the air assets.

Kessari Vorn and the Sovereign Dawn fleet had been rattling around the area traditionally defined as Hutt Space, space more recently owned by the criminal syndicate the Black Sun. They'd been preparing their secret weapon, a Mi Je'ka Super Freighter named Vagrant Star, that outwardly had nothing but the broken chain and fist of the Sovereign Dawn to outwardly mark it as any different from the others of the class shifting cargo around the Galaxy, inwardly, it was no different either, save the cargo holds filled with Baradium explosives, Fuel, Torpedo Warheads, and just straight up massive durasteel gurters normally used in the mega buildings on city planets like Courscant. The plan had been to use it in a strike on a massive orbital refinery complex that refined 18% of the sector's durasteel, 63% of which was sourced via slave labour, the entire ship-sized bomb rigged to be triggered by the impact of the ship's intended collision.

Kessari had been just about to order the jump when the Rusthawk's comms officer shouted to get her attention, "Kess! Incoming message! It's from the Jedi!"

There was only one Jedi that the comms officer could have been talking about, Jonyna Si, the same Jedi who had provided Kessari and the Sovereign Dawn with access to many of their weapons and technology. It was the kind of call she couldn't well afford to ignore, even at the cost of an operation they'd been planning for months.

Reading through the message revealed that it was actually from one of the Jedi's underlings, some Vice Admiral named Zoro Igala, though it might as well have been from the Jedi's mouth. A superior fleet led by a massive battlecruiser had them and several allies, including the Jedi pinned on Kessel. The Vagrant Star might not get its intended target, but it would not be wasted either.

"Nav! Plot us a course for Kessel, send it out to the fleet, have everyone ready, same plan, new target, not a lounging Hutt but a charging Rancor!"

Within a few minutes, the fleet had completed its short hop to Kessel. The fleet taking up thier pre planned positions from the old plan to escort the fireship that the Vagrant Star had become, just aiming for the biggest ship not on their side rather than a refinery station. Star fighters launched from the Ironbacks, the Flayswatters ranging ahead to intercept squadrons targeting the fleet, the Hornets in close to provide a proper fighter screen closer in, and the Typhoons ready to make runs at any capital ships that looked ready to block the Vagrant Star's path.

Kessari dispatched a message on the same frequency that had been used to contact her "Igala, this is Kessari Vorn of the Sovereign Dawn. My fleet is preparing to make a run towards that big, ugly Bantha Frakker my IFF is calling the MIN Collateral Star. Stay out of my way or better yet, clear me a path, and don't sneeze too hard at the Vagrant; she's a might bit sensitive."

Sovereign Dawn fleet jumps into the Kessel system outside of engagement zone
Sovereign Dawn fleet launches Starfightes and moves into escort formation around Superfrighter turned fireship Vagrant Star

"Bombs incoming!"

Keeve's warning came as the Tornados plunged from the storm, their ordnance falling toward the Imperial line. Rain hammered against the viewport as explosions marched across the battlefield, throwing mud and shattered rock into the air.

"Ugh, Stars Above! Keep it moving Keeve, Keep it moving! And get me a channel to all ground personnel."

The AT-AT lurched into a hard evasive turn, its hydraulics screeching as Lothar staggered the walker's immense legs across the uneven ground. Chain-laser fire swept past the cockpit, striking the armour in showers of sparks as the neighbouring AT-AAWs swung their weapons skyward.

Keeve opened the broad command frequency.

"All ground personnel, this is Sergeant Lothar Braeyek Lothar Braeyek . The Rebels are in retreat. They have yielded ground, but not cheaply."

"Come in Captain Octavia Renn Octavia Renn , Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane , Orinn Darge Orinn Darge , What are your further orders?"

Lothar watched the Imperial formations advance through the rain and smoke, blaster fire and artillery still pounding in the surrounds.

"In the meantime, have our armoured section fire on that rebel armour."

"At once sir"

Another burst of chain-laser fire flashed across the viewport as Keeve relayed the order. The AT-AT's heavy cannons thundered first, followed by the AT-AAWs, their laser cannons and missiles unleashing a wave of red that glowed through the rain-soaked battlefield toward the Sphinx & Enemy Walkers

The tactical display was becoming crowded enough that Jyote Veyr had begun stripping information away. Damaged fighters withdrawing from the engagement. Friendly capital ships outside her control. Spent attack craft. Contacts whose trajectories carried them away from the Collateral Star. One by one she muted them, reducing an increasingly complicated battle to the pieces that mattered to her.

Rogue Thunder remained wrapped in Imperial attack markers. Heavy Metal was still there despite everything the Caragachi had thrown at it. Confederate frigates remained engaged with Charles and Kragg.

Rebel fighters were withdrawing, advancing, rearming, and launching again. And then another collection of contacts appeared. Jyote stared at them. "That's new."

The Sovereign Dawn fleet had entered the system in formation, fighters already deploying around its capital ships. That alone would have been enough to make Jyote's afternoon worse. Then she noticed the freighter. It wasn't doing what freighters did. No maneuver toward Kessel. No effort to avoid the engagement. No hesitation after emerging into a battlespace filled with enough firepower to turn a conventional cargo ship into expanding vapor. It had chosen a heading.

Jyote traced the projected vector. Straight toward them. "Get me everything we have on that freighter." The request went toward the sensor stations while she enlarged the contact.

The Collateral Star shuddered beneath her again. Somewhere beyond the bridge, damage control teams were still dealing with the aftermath of the Rebel missile strike. Their shields had already been punished once. A freighter charging a battlecruiser wasn't brave. It wasn't stupid either. Not with escorts.

Jyote's expression changed. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me." She didn't know what was aboard it. She didn't need to. Whatever Kessari Vorn had put inside the Vagrant Star, Jyote was reasonably certain nobody intended to deliver it politely.

"Control to all squadrons. New priority contact." The freighter and its escorts flashed across the Mahporeem fighter network. "Large hostile transport inbound on direct intercept with the Collateral Star. Treat as probable fireship."

That got attention. Several voices answered simultaneously. Jyote raised hers over them. "Quiet." The channel obeyed. Her eyes swept across the available fighters. The obvious response was overwhelming force. Throw everything at it. Missiles. Bombers. Capital guns. Tear the thing apart. Except if the freighter was carrying what Jyote suspected it was carrying, blowing it apart five kilometers from the Collateral Star instead of letting it impact might constitute a technical victory followed immediately by a very practical disaster.

"We kill it out there," she said quietly. Her finger moved across the display until she found the distance she wanted. A boundary appeared. Then another. "Transmitting interception line now. That freighter does not cross it."

She opened the fighter channel again. "Vulture groups Aurek-Seven through Twelve, disengage from Rogue Thunder. Reform on the inbound contact's approach vector."

A response came almost immediately. "Control, we're still engaged."

"I know."

"We've got attack opportunities on the Liberator."

"And now you have a more important one. Break contact."

There was a brief hesitation. "Copy. Breaking."

Jyote was already assigning the next group. "Striders Four and Five, abandon Confederate harassment. Join the interception force. Droid groups presently outside Rogue Thunder's immediate defensive envelope, redirect toward the fireship escorts."

The board shifted. Not enough. The Sovereign Dawn formation was built around protecting that freighter. Fighters were ranged ahead and clustered close, with heavier strike craft positioned where they could punish anything attempting to block the approach. Jyote understood the arrangement almost immediately. Worse, she understood how she'd attack it.

Her attention fixed on the projected interception corridor. Don't come from the front. Too obvious. Let the first screen commit. Go underneath them, low relative to their approach plane. Two flights draw the close escort upward. Third flight cuts across the stern. She could see the whole run. A fighter beneath her. Throttle open. The Vagrant Star swelling against the canopy. Roll through the escorts. Ignore the firing solution on the first pass. Get behind it. Engines. Drive. Steering. Anything that made the freighter capable of reaching the Collateral Star.

Jyote's breathing slowed. She knew exactly how she would do it. And for one reckless moment, the thought wasn't hypothetical. There were fighters aboard the Collateral Star. There was still time. She could leave the bridge. She could be in a cockpit before—

Her hand curled into a fist. No. Jyote looked down at it. She remembered another control stick beneath those fingers. Remembered knowing exactly what maneuver she needed. Remembered her body failing to complete it quickly enough. The fighter hadn't failed. She had. Jyote slowly opened her hand.

"Ghostfield?" Someone on the channel.

She blinked.

"Control, you still with us?"

Jyote keyed the transmitter. "Unfortunately for you."

A few nervous laughs filtered through the net. Good. "Listen carefully. We're not making a frontal charge." She began drawing vectors. "First element, engage their forward screen and make yourselves irritating. Don't chase kills. Get their fighters looking at you."

Another vector appeared. "Second element, come below their approach plane. Hold until their close escort commits." Then the third. "Annihilator flight, you're going around them."

"Target?"

Jyote stared at the freighter. Every instinct she possessed wanted to say reactor. Maximum damage. One perfect shot. Instead—"Propulsion."

There was a pause. "Control?"

"Engines, maneuvering thrusters, drive systems. I don't care if that freighter survives. I care whether it can steer."

Understanding spread through the channel. "Disable instead of destroy."

"Until it's far enough away from us." Jyote marked the outer boundary. "If you get a clean kill outside this line, take it. Inside the line, cripple it and push it off course."

That was the part she hated. Pilots liked simple missions. Kill the target. Come home. This required judgment. Distance. Timing. Restraint while someone was attempting to ram a ship into their home. Exactly the sort of mission she'd once trusted herself to fly. Now she had to trust them.

Jyote leaned toward the console. "Do not get greedy. The freighter is the mission, not its escorts. If they chase you away from it, you've done their job for them."

The Vagrant Star's projected course continued inexorably toward the Collateral Star. Jyote watched her interceptors move. For a moment she wasn't seeing symbols. She imagined cockpits. Pilots checking instruments. Hands tightening around controls. Some frightened. Some excited. Probably at least one idiot convinced they were about to become a hero. She remembered being that idiot. She missed being that idiot.

"All interception elements, Control." Jyote paused. Her eyes remained fixed on the approaching freighter. "If that thing reaches the Collateral Star, we're all going to have a very bad day."

A voice answered. "No pressure, then."

Jyote smiled despite herself. "Plenty of pressure." The intercept vectors tightened. "Just don't make me wish I'd flown it myself." She released the transmitter.

For the first time since the new contacts appeared, Jyote leaned back from the display. Then she caught herself. "No." She keyed the channel again. "Scratch that." The fighters continued accelerating toward the Sovereign Dawn formation. "Make me jealous." Jyote watched them go. "Ghostfield Control, out."

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
KESSEL
OBJECTIVE II: YOUR SPICE IS MY SPICE

The Imperial advance had ceased to be so, and have devolved into something of a slugging match with the rebel forces down below. Laser, turbolaser, plasma and missile fire continued bombarding the rebel's positions, much of it focused on the reinforcements sent by Ysennia Lee Ysennia Lee to stop them from continuing their attack. Fire was traded from both sides, the capital ship grade weaponry of the All Terrain Advanced Armored Transports proving to be especially damaging against anything that they hit. Yet, turbolasers and missiles weren't proving to be the most dangerous thing that the Imperial Remnant had faced yet. A low rumble off to the side of the mountain quickly turned into a large series of crashes as numerous boulders began crashing down onto the various walkers that the Imperials had assembled. Rock after rock slammed into a nearby Shadow AT-AT, causing the vehicle to violently rock from side to side, and after a few more seconds, it fell down to its right, slamming into another walking and knocking it down, causing a chain reaction that resulted in a total of five incapacitated walkers.

Were they destroyed? No. Could they be recovered? Quite likely. But would they be contributing any more to this battle? No, they would not. Had it not been for the fact that the next walker in line, an All Terrain Advanced Armored Transport, had been angled off to the side, the chain reaction could have been much, much worse for the Imperials. Still, casualties were mounting, and a fifth of the Imperial Remnant's armor was thought to be dead, wounded or missing. Much like with Brosi, the Imperials would not be able to continue sustaining such losses indefinitely.

It was time for a counterattack.

The All Terrain Modular Artillery Platforms, which had been bombarding the rebel minefield, suddenly switched targets. Enough of the mines had been destroyed to allow the Imperials to continue, and the rockslide that Garrion Der Rædwulf Garrion Der Rædwulf had caused had taken care of all the rest. Free of mine clearance, the walkers were now able to begin raining down destruction onto the rebel vehicles. Baradium shells began slamming into the rebel APCs and light walkers, having yet to be targeted by any enemy assets except for the tornados that Jonyna Si Jonyna Si had summoned, though the Junkyard Knights were still managing to hold them in position, if just for the time being. Shell after shell began blanketing the battlefield as both light and heavy walkers continued pouring in shot after shot at the rebel encampment. Still, the counter artillery firing was taking its own toll, and by the now the shield walkers had absorbed so much damage that their shields had essentially been depleted, no longer covering the now halted Imperial forces.

High above, the rebel fighters continued engaging the QIE/FNs, in an attempt to lead them into the rebel anti-air fire. Yet the Imperials were not without their own defenses, as the All Terrain Advanced Armored Transports continued intercepting munitions launched from the rebel starcraft and the TIE Walkers and All Terrain Armored Assault Walkers continued responding with their own anti-aircraft weaponry, sending a barrage of autoblaster, rotary blaster and missile fire at the Tornados as they swopped about. If the rebels were under the mistaken impression that they were the only ones who had brought anti-air capabilities, they were sorely mistaken. Sadly, even with Imperial support, two QIE/FNs were still destroyed.

Still, the most pressing threat remained the super heavy walkers, and a combination of their defenses and anti-aircraft fire had already destroyed eight of the 20 Imperial U-Wings, though the gunships themselves were certainly not defenseless. They had launched their Chaff and Flares as soon as they had detected missile lock, and their Missile Deactivation Transmitters helped take care of many of the other missiles launched at them. The laser fire was, a different story, and was accounting for most of the losses that the gunships had taken. Still, the fact that so many were still operational was a testament to their pilot's skill and the increasingly bad weather, which was making it more difficult for the enemy to land their shots.

The remaining Imperial U-Wings continued pounding away at Ysennia Lee Ysennia Lee 's super heavy walkers, slamming them with laser and missile fire. Of course, their goal was still not to destroy the walkers but rather capture them for themselves, and some of the U-Wings, including the Night Reaver, began an attempt to land troops on TOP of the walkers themselves, so that they could begin boarding the vehicles and taking out the crew members insides. Ysennia Lee Ysennia Lee 's anti-air units, gunships and the overall bad weather wasn't making this attempt easy, and when Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane jumped out onto the walker, he was caught by a gust of wind that nearly knocked him off and down onto the floor below, completely causing him to miss Lothar Braeyek Lothar Braeyek 's request for instructions.

But those instructions would come soon enough: a general order to halt and hold position, which is what most of the Imperial armor had already been doing. The volume of fire coming in at them had made their advance slow down to a crawl, but that wasn't the reason that they had been ordered to stop.

It all had to do with Jonyna Si Jonyna Si and the Junkyard Knights of Mahporeem.

Every since she had summoned the tornados to hit the Imperial backline, thhe Junkyard Knights had been doing what they could to slow the tornados progress and contest Jonyna Si Jonyna Si 's actions. The attempts had caused many of them injuries as blood vessels burst within their bodies and their eyesight went fuzzy, pushing several of them to the brink of unconsciousness. Yet perhaps what Jonyna Si Jonyna Si failed to realize was that the knights were no ordinary force users, no Padawans or apprentices in training. They were hardened, seasoned warriors from the Diarchy, who had seen their homes destroyed by the Mandalorians, their systems conquered in quick order and their most hated foes openly ally with the Sith. To believe the force was something to be respected, something to work with, was folly. To use the force as you might use a lightsaber or blaster was the true way of looking at things. And to believe for a second that a single Jedi Master zealot with erroneous beliefs would somehow beat them no matter how tough or skilled she was was unthinkable. A wave of anger and rage pushed out from the Knights, keeping the tornados in place as the rain around them intensified even further, coming down even more heavily than it had been before.

The rebels had entrenched themselves into the ground, and they had though that such fortifications would keep them safe from the Imperials. That was, of course, a true statement, and was causing much hardship for the Imperial Remnant. Yet what was also true was that the rebels were quite physically lower into the ground than the Imperials were, and with the occupation of the high ground meant that the Imperial Remnant hadn't been too bothered by the flooding that was going on due to the rain. Yes, it was annoying and was slowing things down, but it hand't pool enough to really affect the Imperial's operation.

At least, that had been until now.

With the Knight's effort, the torrent of rain came down even harder, and water began slowly but surely collecting within the rebel's base of operations. That was why a halt had been called for. The Imperials were waiting for the rain to fill the rebel's position with water and drown anyone or anything who was stuck down below. It didn't matter how the rebels died, just that they did, and death by drowning would be just as effective as death by blaster fire or missile fire. If the rebels wanted to stay in their pit as the waters flooded in around them, that was fine by the Imperials. If they wanted to leave their fortifications and get blasted to pieces, that was fine to.

Either way, the rebels were going to be defeated one way or another, and the Imperial's sacrifices and losses would not be in vain!
