ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Destroyer: Orikan-class heavy cruisers are very well armed, with a deadly balance of turbolasers, missile launchers, and smaller laser cannons that pose a serious threat to warships of all sizes.
  • Pursuer: Powerful, fuel-efficient engines allow Orikan cruisers to chase down blockade runners and other fast craft.
  • Flagship: Each Orikan cruiser is equipped with a full command and control suite, allowing them to serve as flagships for smaller fleets and naval formations.
  • Tanky: All Orikans are equipped with multilayered self-regenerating shielding and thick armor, enabling them to withstand serious punishment.
WEAKNESSES
  • Cumbersome: Though more agile than their Parlemian predecessors, Orikans struggle to make quick maneuvers.
  • Decapitation: The relatively narrow “neck” of the Orikan-class heavy cruiser is a weak spot that can be exploited to split the cruiser in two.
DESCRIPTION

From 900 to 905 ABY, the Parlemian-class heavy cruiser was one of Alge Imperial’s most successful designs.
Well-armed and armored, speedy, and highly versatile, the Parlemians proved to be effective warships in their early deployments. As time progressed however, advancements in naval technology and tactics threatened to undermine even the most modern Parlemian-IIs in comparison with their counterparts. At the same time, Alge Imperial had just undergone an enormous relocation effort from Borosk to Caragach, forcing it to redraw its supply lines and hire new teams of specialists from the Caragach area.

Ultimately, all the above factors would combine to make the Orikan-class possible.

The team of largely Caragachi engineers responsible for creating the Orikan initiated a radical change to its design, foregoing the Imperial-inspired wedge in favor of a more organic appearance resembling one of Caragach’s fearsome aquatic predators. Working with knowledge built up by the teams responsible for the Parlemian and Parlemian-II, the designers of the Orikan-class were able to produce an extremely formidable and efficient warship.

Though slightly smaller than the Parlemians, the Orikan-class heavy cruiser has the signature heavy mixed firepower of its predecessor, further consolidating the more numerous dual turbolasers of the Parlemians into fewer but more powerful quad batteries. It also retains the point-defense upgrades of the Parlemian-II without sacrificing in production, largely thanks to the Orikan’s smaller size and more efficient weapon manufacturing from Alge Imperial. Maneuverability, while still hardly more than adequate, has been considerably improved, enabling Orikans to play a more active role in close-quarters space battles as well as atmospheric operations.

Entering production in early 905 ABY, the Orikan-class heavy cruiser’s versatility, toughness, and cost-effectiveness makes it a solid workhorse for fleets of any size.
