GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Unit Name: Indomitus Knight Banner
  • Affiliation:
  • Classification:
  • Description: The Knight Banner is the fundamental tactical and operational formation of the Indomitus Legion. Commanded by a Banner Master and accompanied by its own officers, veterans, specialists, support personnel, and attachments, a Banner functions as a self-contained brotherhood capable of waging campaigns independently for extended periods. While individual Knights may traverse between Chambers throughout their careers, a Knight's Banner remains their true home, identity, and family within the Legion.

Each Banner is composed of multiple Companies which in turn are composed of Lances and each can be drawn from the different Orders of the Heptazir according to its mission requirements. This allows every Banner to field a balanced force capable of conducting conventional warfare, assaults, reconnaissance, armored operations, assassinations, and void combat without relying excessively on outside support. No two Banners are entirely alike, each developing its own traditions, operational preferences, and reputation over decades of service.

Philosophically, the Banner represents the purest expression of the Legion's ideals. It is where recruits become Knights, where comrades become brothers and sisters, and where the principles of the Lex Valoris are lived rather than merely taught. Members of a Banner often know one another for years or even decades, creating bonds of trust and loyalty that frequently surpass those of blood relations. Rivalries exist, but always in service to mutual improvement and collective excellence.

Every Banner carries its own heraldry, battle honors, and ceremonial standard from which it derives its name. These banners are treated with immense reverence, embodying the legacy, sacrifices, victories, and identity of the formation. Their armor often bears subtle markings denoting Banner affiliation alongside Chamber insignia, allowing Knights to display both their specialist role and their primary allegiance. To an Indomitus Knight, the Banner is more than a military unit: it is a lineage, a family, and a legacy that must be preserved and honored.

On the battlefield, Banners are known for their discipline, cohesion, and adaptability. They advance with the certainty of veteran soldiers and the determination of sworn crusaders, maintaining formation and purpose even under the harshest conditions. Whether deployed to conquer rebellious worlds, hunt dangerous Force cults, defend Imperial holdings, or spearhead major offensives, a Banner fights as a single organism, each Knight understanding their role within the greater whole. To break an Indomitus Banner is considered nearly impossible; so long as its standard remains raised, its warriors will continue the fight.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Banner is the standard battalion-sized formation of the Indomitus Legion and the foundation upon which its campaigns are built. First established during the Legion's early consolidation, Banners transformed scattered companies of veterans and recruits into permanent martial households, each entrusted with its own lineage, traditions, and record of service. Even as the Legion's internal structure evolved from the Hexaton into the Heptazir, the Banner endured as the most stable bond in a Knight's military life.

Commanded by a Banner Master, each Banner contains several Companies and Lances drawn from different Orders of the Heptazir. This allows it to field a balanced force of line infantry, assault specialists, heavy weapons, reconnaissance elements, Force-sensitive Hetaeron Knights, and other mission-specific assets without losing its internal cohesion. Knights may pass through different Orders as their abilities, duties, and experience develop, but their Banner remains their home, preserving familiarity and trust across changing battlefield roles.

Every Banner possesses its own standard, emblem, battle honours, and inherited customs. These distinctions appear upon armour, heraldry, and ceremonial equipment, growing more elaborate as victories and sacrifices accumulate. Its members live, train, and deploy together for prolonged periods, creating a brotherhood in which loyalty is reinforced through shared hardship, mutual responsibility, and adherence to the Lex Valoris.

Operationally, the Banner is expected to function as a self-contained instrument of war. It can secure territory, break fortified positions, conduct prolonged occupations, hunt Force cults, or serve as the core of a larger Legion Host. Though its Companies may be divided and its Lances assigned separate objectives, the Banner fights with a single identity and purpose: each Knight a specialised weapon, each formation part of the same enduring whole.
