Sergeant Omen

Arc Trooper Sergeant of the 41st Elite Corps
The Clone smiled as he nodded towards the Mandalorian Warrior and his introduction. "Nyles, I'll file that away for later. Good to know we have some experienced people here." They could give tips on how not to blow out of the void to the rest.

Omen considered the teams for a moment as he put his fleet list into the machine. The groups would be lopsided, but he did have an idea based on experience level. "Let's say... Zoro, Laphisto, and Nyles in one group and then the rest in another." It would be best to give those who were less experienced more ships to waste. And he knew Laphisto and Nyles running their own militaries would give them the experience to overcome being outnumbered. He had some experience in battles, but had no experience controlling multiple ships in combat. Zoro probably had a lot more since he had called this event in the first place. And thus the teams. All that was left was for everyone else to agree.

Fleet Comp:

Zoro looked to Omen with a slight smirk. "Putting me and Nyles on the same team is asking for disaster for anyone else. No, it'll be me, Beltor "Bell" Cyrus Beltor "Bell" Cyrus and Laphisto Laphisto vs everyone else. Nyles can lead their team, while I'll lead this one. For now though, I do believe we're all set. Let the games begin..."

He pressed a button on the holotable, and all of a sudden a map appeared.

2P2sYzu.png

All the while, everyone was given a prompt. A query for their entry point. No one could see where you entered, and fleet coordination would begin once everyone had.

z5cR1Ol.png

Zoro had chosen the direct south. H-16. His fleet entered, and he immediately entered an input to allow them to enter the asteroid belt. Frigates pushed forward first, to allow him to navigate and manuever any rocks that might get in the way. Even if he didn't need to worry about the smaller ones, the larger rocks would act as heavy obstacles and hiding locations.

Next, he entered his first real order. Both frigates would launch their B-wings, and push on either direction around the planet.

The game of cat and mouse had begun. Now he'd see how things go.

Laphisto

High Commander of the Lilaste Order
Laphisto remained beside the holotable, speaking quietly with his Force-dead commander as the room gradually filled with conversation. The discussion between the two was brief, centered entirely on fleet formations and deployment doctrine, until another presence entered the edge of his awareness. His words trailed off, and he turned his head toward the approaching voice.

Despite the damage to his eyesight, his gaze settled surprisingly close to Shem's position. The Force still painted enough of the world for him to orient himself, though anyone attuned to it would notice something unusual. It wasn't simply that Laphisto's presence was strong, but it bled from him. Light and Dark flowed together in equal measure, wrapped around one another like braids. spilling off him like a slow-moving fog that refused to settle, and those who grew closer could feel the excess force energy, if they so chose. could even feed off of it.

A brow lifted beneath the dark lenses covering his eyes, followed by a small nod of acknowledgment. "Aye, I believe the last time we crossed paths, I was under contract with the Empire of the Lost." The corner of his mouth twitched into the faintest hint of a smile. "Lothal. Tingle Arm Coalition, right?." He gave a small shrug, the armor shifting with a muted scrape. "Different flags. Different employers. Same galaxy"

His eyes drifted briefly toward the holographic fleet before returning to the avian Jedi. "Though by the teams set in place, we seem still at odds with one another, suppose we are destined to always be on opposite sides of the line, eh? even when we are allies," he half-chuckled while looking at the holographic display. When he was told that they would have 10km to play with, he decided to add another Edaar Class Star destroyer, and then five Air'mar Class Assault Carriers onboard. before dropping his fleet in E16

"Perhaps it might be best to decide our locations together as 'one'?"

"Yeah, that's the idea. Give me your comm freqs so we can speak freely. Only way to simulate comm security," elaborated Nyles. He glanced at Emri to see if she agreed. Emri nodded and made a seesaw motion with her hand to indicate that she believed this was more or less the case.

"Ah, I'm sure that's just flattery," said Nyles, waving it off. "Thank you in any case," he added. He then took a quick look at the map. Two positions jumped out at him, one as a primary position and the other as a fall back an case they needed it. What they needed was a defensible location. Somewhere they could negate the enemy's apparent advantage in starfighter numbers, speed and maneuverability.

Nyles in the meanwhile set up the digital incarnation of part of his fleet just as the real version; main battery and jump capacitors set to pre-charge to at least fifty percent capacity. Not high enough to potentially cause damage from overload but enough to make finishing the charge cycle as they started a much easier prospect.

"Though by the teams set in place, we seem still at odds with one another, suppose we are destined to always be on opposite sides of the line, eh? even when we are allies,"

"Don't sound too sad," Shem laughed. "That's just how things go sometimes, eh?"

The Avian knight offered a dip of his hat before he drew back to where his group had positioned themselves. He listened in on the words of the Kathar before Nyles responded.

"Ah, I'm sure that's just flattery," said Nyles, waving it off. "Thank you in any case,"

"Don't be so humble, Admiral," the Rishi offered. "I've seen the quality of your decision making first hand. I surely would have deferred to your orders myself. Speaking of, my lone ship is at your disposal, wherever you see fit to put me."

Aether eyed the map curiously.

"I am fine with this arrangement. Shem... would you like to make use of anything within my cataloged ships? I would think, for our needs, perhaps some Jackals would be good for you to run with if we intend to work with one another. It might be wise to learn how to make use of different vessels."

He had stayed rather quiet, actually having spent the time programming his fleet formations in to the tactical sim and taking a moment to gleam what ever useable information he could gleam from the others.

He told no one what he was bringing, and he guessed likely only the Mandos had any idea of what he could be bringing given they had seen the Warspite.

He took a moment and finished. The Warspite blinked in to existence around Hex K-16. Flanked by two CD710s, an Acclimator II forming along side her while the escorts, 4 CR90s, 4 DP20s, two Astrocats and a final pair of Nebulon-B frigates spawned in in a standard escort screen around the heavies.

He kept quiet, taking a moment to take a puff of his smoke before leaning back in his chair and palming one of the fried confections being provided.

Omen was confident that they would be fine. At least they would have numbers on their side; while the other team could probably do something crazy to equalize, it was hard to fight against people with more lasers aimed at you. And so his fleet wrapped in with the rest of the ships of his team at the left upper corner of the map. His big ships (Cruisers and Starcarriers) slid alongside Nyle's two jumbo battlecarriers with the Firebrands ready to dial in on anything that broke through the field. At the same time, the fighters and bombers started to stream out of the hangers, loaded to bear.

The Flak Cruisers spread themselves evenly throughout the whole formation, ready to put themselves in front of any incoming fighters.

The Frightes and Freighters set themselves up in a skirmish line just outside their field of asteroids while the fighters and gunships moved into the field as soon as they finished launching, acting as sentries and pickets for what was surely to come.

Omen thought the deployment was as sound as it could be. Now it would be up to the other side to cross the firing line, or it would just be a stalemate till someone lost their patience and made a move.

Fleet Comp:

As the B-wings pushed forward, Zoro watched as his fellow commanders imputed their ships and commands. Beltor had chosen to set up right next to his own fleet, while the Listate commander had chosen a decent berth between their positions. For now, it wouldn't matter much.

First they needed to find the enemy.

Every few seconds, the B-wings' rear fighter sent out a ping on their modular sensor package. Slowly, he mapped the terrain. The computer had been ordered to randomize the set up of the asteroids, and fog of war meant they had no idea what the configuration was. Every ping meant a new set of data. A new part of the map unveiled. A new bit of information that could be used.

But until they uncovered the enemy fleet, they needed to keep themselves on their toes. Zoro ordered his ships into standard formation. the Tenacities in a forward arch, ready to intercept any incoming threats, while the Solo classes made up the two diagonal keystones of the arch, intent on keeping themselves prepped for any engagement that might come.

In the meantime, the three capital ships activated their stealth systems as to keep their main firepower hidden. The Rebellions would send out their fighters, setting up a perimeter combat air patrol around both Zoro's fleet, and Beltors. Best not to waste resources of Beltor when he could be focusing on his own objectives.

Nyles appreciated the discussion was on the topic at hand and so he simply hoped to the Manda that their comm units had laser comm functionality. "L1, L2 M1 and M2. We cluster around that large asteroid. He deploy proves and mines into that large asteroid field and dare them to approach. There's enough navigation hazards that it should frustrate starfighter operations as well as drawing a line of sight with longer ranged weapon systems."

Nyles placed his ships precisely there, where he told his team to do so. "N15, N16, L15 and L16 are our fall back locations. If we're getting overrun, use that as our fallback locations. Use micro jumps, main drives if you can't, but only if absolutely necessary," he added. Nyles ship did precisely as he had discussed, the asteroid field at L4, J4, J3, K2 and K1 were filled with Sleeper Mines by way of minelaying shells.

Probe droids and drone sentries were sent into hex K3 to both provide additional reconnaissance as well as to stymie any starfighters that try to make use of the asteroid field as cover. "Gett, send a-" he started before he realized that he wasn't on the bridge of his ship, this was taking him back to his academy dats.

"I know, I almost asked Gett for you, only he isn't here," reminded Emri from beside him. "I'm not too sure how this works here..." he started before finally figuring out how to send a data handshake request for the battlenet relay so that they could share information more seamlessly. He knew at least one of Aether of the Iron Order Aether of the Iron Order 's ships had a full on battlenet module, so in the very least they would be able to share data that way.

Nyles took a breath, war had been prosecuted so very differently to this for a long time, it remained to be seen if he had forgotten his academy training.

Phoenix Wing emerged at M2 and began forming the right-side anchor of the allied defensive crescent.

Aether placed the Surly Siege-Urchin at the protected center of his line, angled toward the southern and southeastern approach lanes. The Shield-class Escort Cruisers tightened around it as the first defensive shell, guarding the siege engine with overlapping point-defense and screening fire.

Behind that armored center, the Blizzard-class Heavy Starcarrier tucked itself into the safer rear of the formation. The Sorgan Ordnance Cruisers spread to either side, forming the left and right arms of the crescent, their weapons trained across the lower approach lanes.

Fighters and interceptors launched first, forming a shallow screen beneath M2. Ebonrays, Phantomrays, and Arans spread across the lower lanes, watching for bombers, scouts, missiles, and stealth contacts. Barracudas, Pikes, Hutthounds, and Jair Kyr'ams remained closer to the fleet as an inner reserve.

The Sur'haai Scout Frigate and Rain-class Corvette moved to the near edge of the formation as pickets, feeding sensor data back through Phoenix Wing and into Nyles' battlenet.

Aether then deployed the Dienekes Drones.

The small missile drones moved toward nearby asteroids along Phoenix Wing's own right-side approach lanes, staying clear of Nyles' marked minefields and probe routes. They latched into place with their tractor beams, becoming quiet missile nests below and beside the M2 position. Their engines cooled. Their launchers stayed cold. Targeting control remained tied back through the battlenet.

"Phoenix Wing is established at M2," Aether reported. "Right anchor formed. Fighter screen active. Dienekes nests seeded along our approach lanes. We are clear of Nyles' mine and probe sectors, and we will hold for confirmed targets."

He kept the formation tight. Not tight enough to restrict movement, but still tight enough to keep supporting arcs of fire. Given some of the more...esoteric designs he was likely pitted against, he opted to take the slow approach.

Tasking his ships to launch embarked fighters, he opted to keep the bombers and strike craft with in the protective circle of fire. He tasked two flights of bombers specifically at the mid point between his and his allies forces, as well as a flight of the longer ranged X-wings

Inputting Commands in to his datapad, he tasked Bloodhound, his Nightfury recon compliment to break under speed in three box formation runs. One to establish sensor images of the wider hexes in front of his fleet, and importantly one at the top and bottom of the Z axis. He hoped, between data link and up to date sensors, he'd be able to see anything coming before it got with in firing range.

Next, he tasked a pair of LionX's on CAP duty, rotating at mid range between the Nightfuries and the fleet. He gave a nod to Zoro and pulled up a private chat function between the two of them.
<<:How do you want to play this?>>

Laphisto

High Commander of the Lilaste Order
Laphisto deployed three of his interceptor squadrons, but rather than keeping them in formation, he ordered every individual fighter to break away and accelerate independently. The thirty-six interceptors fanned outward from his position in a broad search pattern, spreading across the battlespace like a shotgun blast toward the far edge of the grid. Their mission was reconnaissance, not combat. Relying on their superior speed to keep them alive, each pilot had standing orders that, upon making contact with enemy forces, they were to immediately transmit their findings and withdraw toward the fleet rather than engage.

As the interceptors surged ahead, Laphisto began repositioning the main body of his fleet. The three Air'mar Heavy Cruisers, accompanied by the eight Dhi'vo Corvettes, advanced together toward Grid E14 to establish a forward screening force. Their role was to make first contact with any hostile vessels while remaining within the effective engagement envelope of the Edaar-class Star Destroyers positioned farther behind with the carrier group. Should the screening force encounter resistance, the Star Destroyers would be able to immediately support them with their long-range batteries without exposing the fleet's most valuable assets.

Behind the advancing screen, Laphisto ordered his five Air'mar Assault Carriers to maintain a close escort formation alongside the two Edaar-class Star Destroyers. The capital ships formed the core of the fleet, their combined anti-starfighter and point-defense batteries overlapping into a dense, layered defensive network. Any incoming missiles or strike craft would be forced to penetrate multiple overlapping fields of defensive fire before they could threaten the carriers, while the Star Destroyers remained ideally positioned to deliver long-range fire support over the screening force as the battle developed.

So it was a waiting game then. Their oppenents were slowly making their way through the field towards them, hoping in the field. And so they sat waiting according to Nyles strategy, his gunships tracking individual starfights from pockets in the asteroid behind the minefield. They would be the first speedbump before they hit the starfighter line. Hopefully they would restrict the enemies fighters and actually score a few hits.

Zoro watched as the B-wings pushed forward to massive asteroid at M10, and pinged once more.

That's when they finally got something. He wasn't sure yet, but it didn't take long to find out. Some sort of mine. He couldn't tell what, but he could tell they were active.

Then he got a message from Beltor.
<<:How do you want to play this?>>
<We play safe. Carrier doctrine first and foremost. So long as they don't know where we are, we can poke at them. I've got eyes on some sort of mines, so they can't be too far from it.>

"I gotta say Nyles, you're reputation proceeds you. Heard about what you did on Coruscant with that battlecruiser."

Zoro didn't want to admit, but the mandos did intimidate him more than anyone else here. Aether's ships more confused Zoro than anything, but he certainly wasn't turning them down as an ally. But Strill? They had a reputation beyond just mercenaries.

Zoro's B-wings knew what to do next. Rather than push forward, they locked onto those mines and opened fire with ion cannons. It would clear a path for any bombers, but it would also mean the B-wings would be spotted.

But that was the plan. They wanted to draw out enemy fighters. Any mines wouldn't be too far from what deployed it.

They would have the initiative.

Locke and Key and Clan Gred designs. Made sense, they had a monopoly when it came to completed space frames on the open market, and for good shabla reason too. They were solid designs. That was not say he was sure that his opponents had brough solid designs to the fight as well. Now there were B-wing analogues attacking his mines, too far out to respond with fighters, too far out to try and intercept incoming fire with countermeasure gas rockets. The mines were probably not long for this world.

Mines that were hit by the Ion weapons shut off after a few hits, still very deadly if touched off, but no longer able to activate on their own. The simulated 'Manda' modules on his ship, while taxing the simulation, marked the mines as a hazard and an object of tactical interest on the battlenet.

Those mines were employing stealth tech, they must have had stealth detection functions on their ships. Regardless. Those B-wings were now in range of his sentries. The sentries were in a position to block the incoming Ion fire with their own chassis, they might have survived too, but they were far more valuable than the mines. That indicated one thing, however, those B-wings were in range of his sentries' guns.

First thing, the B-wings were targeted by the drones' HJB-03P Heavy Jamming Beam Projector to frustrate further targeting attempts and any lock-threat warning systems that they might posses. Alternatively loaded HEIAP and EMP rounds were spat out by the drone sentries' mass-driver autocannons. The incoming fire didn't stop there. Tra'beviiin-class Brilliant Missiles were locked and fired at the enemy fighters as well.

The real boon came from the fact that now the drone sentries had a lock, so did the rest of Nyles' formation and every ally that had accepted his earlier data packet handshake request. The launchers on the Morut and the Gra'tua had targeting solutions as a result as well. Almost thirty assault grade T'barsr-BT missiles streaked out toward the B-wings, each of the missiles unleashed about sixteen concussion missile sized submunitions targeting the B-wings. He very much doubted those B-wings could live through that.

Those asteroids were blocking his view partially, but his ships' composite detection, targeting and tracking system was having no trouble picking apart those ships that weren't behind one of the really big asteroids. Those clearly seemed to be made of something that was blocking detection. Another idea hit Nyles at this point. "Getting anything on the Gar Strill?" he asked Emri.

"Shab yes, at least a couple of contacts on long-range anti-stealth," she answered. "Should show on the 'Manda' in a moment."

Nyles began dumping power into his ships' main batteries. There were no crew to issue the order to. The main batteries began completing their charge cycle at his behest. "Let's give them something to worry about," smiled Nyles. "All callsigns, hold position, engage with long-range batteries, let them come to us. If they don't, that's their mistake, pick them apart," he instructed over comms to his allies.

The Morut and Gra'tua engaged with ten Quad HETL-05S Heavy Energy Torpedo Launcher turrets firing in 'standard' mode each at Zoro Igala Zoro Igala and Beltor "Bell" Cyrus Beltor "Bell" Cyrus 's flagships, identified by the former's Cather life signature coming from the bridge and the latter's force presence coming from his. Those asteroids would provide some cover, but not for long, not against the sort of barrage he was unleashing.

The barrage continued with twelve triple SCDC-02S Super-Heavy Class-D Disruptor Cannon turrets and triple SAC-02S Super-heavy Accelerator Cannon turrets. The latter were firing 'standard' energy torpedo sheathed alternatively fired APFSDS and Ion Encumbrance rounds. The same solution continued with twelve hextuple SCDC-02S Super-Heavy Class-D Disruptor Cannon and Hextuple SAC-02S Super-heavy Accelerator Cannon turrets. This continued with twelve quad and octuple HCDC-02S Heavy Class-D Disruptor Cannon and HAC-03H Heavy Accelerator Cannon turrets as well.

Main battery charge was now seventy five percent. One last charge cycle, that's all that remained. Then the full fury of his ships would be ready to be unleashed.

"I gotta say Nyles, you're reputation proceeds you. Heard about what you did on Coruscant with that battlecruiser."

"I'm sure there's a reason the gave me this commission, I'm glad it is well founded in your sight," Nyles answered with a slightly exaggerated incline of his helmet masquerading as a nod of acknowledgement. "Load cluster shells, I've got a bad feeling about what's next," he whispered to Emri over comms, almost as if the other team would hear if he spoke too loudly. Emri's acknowledgement signal flashed in response as her hand flew over the controls.

Naval Action Summary

  • Some of the mines are neutralized by the B-wings.
  • The drone sentries engage the B-wings with missiles and mass-driver autocannons. (see post for details)
  • The Darasuum Morut and the Gra'tua both engage the B-wings with assault-grade cluster missiles (see post for details).
  • Both ships use their long-range anti-stealth systems and detection, targeting and tracking systems to pick up the enemy ships.
  • They engage with triple and hex super-heavy class-d disruptors and accelerator cannons (energy torpedo sheathed mass-driver rounds), quad and octuple heavy class-d disruptor and accelerator cannons and quad energy torpedo launchers (see post for details).
  • Cluster shells are loaded into the guns.
