DESCRIPTION
The Shield-class escort cruiser is a light cruiser designed to protect unarmed vessels, and larger warships with limited defensive weaponry. Durable and with engines that allow it to keep up with most fleet elements, the Shield-class is armed with a set of six turbolaser turrets, but more importantly is packed with ten twin laser turrets, and ten flak coilguns. These weapons are used to take out fighters and missiles, keeping the them off larger vessels. Along with its weapons, the escort cruiser had an underslung hanger capable of variable loadouts. Will the hanger is variable, it's most common to see them house interceptors or defensive gunships to add with its protector roll. Along with this, the vessel itself is durable, with durasteel armor, heavy deflectors, and jamming systems.

While it's good at its job, the Shield isn't without its faults. The vessel is cramped, and lacks in the heavy weapons department. Along with that, the engines are fairly exposed, making them more vulnerable.
