OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a modular turret system to be used with a variety of different weapons for ships and emplacements.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Fast-track: The turret is capable of maintaining vey extremely fast tracking abilities such that it can track even quick 100 meter long corvettes even with particularly weighty weapons (very high weight rating).
  • Networked: Each of the turrets are networked into each other and are 'aware' of the others current orientation, position, armament and status. The same is conveyed into any targeting system they are connected to. This allows turrets to raise, lower or tilt to allow all maximum number of guns to be able to fire over, under or around each other to allow a vessel or installation to bring maximum guns to bear on a target.
  • 'Manda' Tactical Battlenet Compatibility: Each turret and the larger network are both compatible with the Manda tactical battlenet module (both variants), and as such allow for largely unprecedented levels of coordination with regards to combined firing solutions against hostile targets, particularly during pitched naval engagements and chaotic defense scenarios.
  • Resilient: The Morut is well protected against all manner of damage, from energy and kinetic to ion.
  • Advanced Stabilization: Powerful weapons of various configurations often exhibit dramatic barrel rise. The Morut's stabilization systems will eliminate all but the most extreme of the same, keeping the weapon on target for a follow up shot.
  • Powerful and Comprehensive Sensor Suite: The Araniik's sensor suite affords it extremely comprehensive detection, tracking and targeting capabilities. It's sensors and scanners create a composite profile of all targets which when paired with the analytic capabilities of the Manda battlenet module makes for a reliable, resilient and very capable platform.
  • Modular: The Morut can mount a staggering variety of weapons and allows for a considerable degree of flexibility when switching between weapon systems of similar types and configurations.
  • Repair Droids: The Morut's repair droids mean that it doesn't need to wait for repair crews from an outpost or other parts of the ship to arrive to fix any faults, and the Gar'gotabor droids that ship with it are well versed in it's maintenance and will do so with little need for supervision.
WEAKNESSES
  • Only as Deadly as the Guns: The turret itself cannot do anything, but is only as capable as the weapon mounted in it.
  • Data Parsing: The additional sensor data means that there's more data for targeting suites to parse. In the case of platforms equipped with the 'Manda' tactical battlenet, this is usually not a problem, but can lead to buffer overloads.
  • Design: Ships and installations have to be specifically designed to take best advantage of the the networking feature of the Morut.
  • Networked: If a slicer were to get aboard the installation or starship equipped with Morut based turrets, and was able to bypass the security measures, the targeting for all Morut turrets could be tampered with, though not overwritten or overridden.
  • EMP/Ion: The considerable amount of electronics and dependence on various electronic systems make the effect of any EMP/Ion weapons that manage to overwhelm the Morut's defences devastating.
  • Only as Accurate: The Morut is only as accurate as the larger targeting systems that are installed on a larger starships, or the wider detection grid found in most large outposts or facilities.
  • More Eyes: While each Morut has a dedicated sensor suite, the sensors installed as part of the Morut are not not nearly sufficient on their own for the purposes of engaging hostile targets at very long and extreme ranges.
  • Yes...Modular: The turrets are modular such that they can be fitted with almost any weapon on the market, but this must be done at a repair facility or shipyard, and the weapons must be of similar configuration, size and count. For example, a quad heavy disruptor configured Morut cannot have the disruptors replaced by an octet of medium repeating mass-drivers. Though it can be replaced by a quartet of heavy turbolasers or particle beam weapons.
  • Too Much Gun: Weapon systems with 'extreme' recoil and barrel rise aren't suitable for mounting on the Morut. In most test cases, such weapon systems have caused damage to the stabilization systems.
DESCRIPTION
"Sometimes, just sometimes, those things scare me..."
- Strill Securities Fleet Admiral Nyles Kote

The Morut was developed as a means to streamline the company's manufacturing process, given that prior to it's development, emplacement grade weapons manufacturing was a complicated and at times convoluted affair. However, with a dramatic reduction in access to production lines as a result of the war time condition that the Breshig system imposed on itself in the wake of the Mandalorian civil war, the company found itself forced to come with a solution, and fast. Inspiration for the project actually came from modular conveyor vessels, though unlike the source of it's inspiration, the real advantage of modularity only really came in when the vessel was at a repair yard or shipyard. This did, however, give starship commanders that slight additional degree of flexibility when it comes to weapon loadouts.
While the Morut is only as deadly as the weapon(s) that it mounts, it offers a great deal of features that make it a far more attractive platform. For one, it is capable of maintaining vey extremely fast tracking abilities such that it can track even quick 100 meter long corvettes even with particularly weighty weapons. Powerful weapons of various configurations often exhibit dramatic barrel rise. The Morut's stabilization systems will eliminate all but the most extreme of the same, keeping the weapon on target for a follow up shot. Each Morut turret is placed within an open topped armored bunker, protecting it but also mitigating the damage of any catastrophic failures. The actual turret itself is well protected against all manner of damage, from energy and kinetic to ion. Finally, as an added feature, the Morut ships with a contingent of Gar'gotabor repair droids who can handle everything from maintenance to battlefield repairs.
Where the Morut diverges from most offerings on the market is it's integrated sensors, scanners and targeting suite as well as it's advanced networking capabilities. Each of the turrets are networked into each other and are 'aware' of the others current orientation, position, armament and status. The same is conveyed into any targeting system they are connected to. This allows turrets to raise, lower or tilt to allow all maximum number of guns to be able to fire over, under or around each other to allow a vessel or installation to bring maximum guns to bear on a target. Not only does the Morut thereby add to the number of sensors and scanners available to a ship, but it also features full compatibility with the company's Manda tactical battlenet. It's sensors and scanners create a composite profile of all targets which when paired with the analytic capabilities of the Manda battlenet module allow for extremely accurate targeting solutions and target tracking. This additional sensor data, however, means that there's more data for targeting suites to parse. In the case of platforms equipped with the 'Manda' tactical battlenet, this is usually not a problem, but can lead to buffer overloads.
The Morut's targeting and sensor systems however, do not preclude the inclusion of a dedicated sensor and targeting suite. The sensors installed as part of the Morut are not not nearly sufficient on their own for the purposes of engaging hostile targets at very long and extreme ranges and it is only as accurate as the larger targeting systems that are installed on a larger starships, or the wider detection grid found in most large outposts or facilities.
The Morut's advanced systems however, do present two notable challenges. The considerable amount of electronics and dependence on various electronic systems make the effect of any EMP/Ion weapons that manage to overwhelm the Morut's defences devastating. Were a slicer to get aboard the installation or starship and should they prove able to bypass the security measures, the targeting for all Morut turrets could be tampered with, though not overwritten or overridden.
The turrets are modular such that they can be fitted with almost any weapon on the market, but this must be done at a repair facility or shipyard, and the weapons must be of similar configuration, size and count. For example, a quad heavy disruptor configured Morut cannot have the disruptors replaced by an octet of medium repeating mass-drivers. Though it can be replaced by a quartet of heavy turbolasers or particle beam weapons. Finally, weapon systems with 'extreme' recoil and barrel rise aren't suitable for mounting on the Morut. In most test cases, such weapon systems have caused damage to the stabilization systems.
