PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Plasma Caster
  • Size: Average.
  • Weight: Heavy.
  • Ammunition Type: Plasma gas medium canister.
  • Ammunition Capacity: Small.
    • Wide-spray: 30 bursts or three minutes, whichever comes first.
    • Focused: 15 bursts.
  • Effective Range: Wide-spray - Average (10 meters), Focused - Long Range (30 meters)
  • Rate of Fire: Focused - Low, Wide-spray - Average.
  • Stopping Power: Very High.
  • Recoil: Average.
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • HUD Targeting and Datalink: The weapon syncs with the user's HUD and links to it to provide current ammunition, a crosshair and range indicator as well as diagnostic information about the weapon.
STRENGTHS
  • High Heat: The high heat of the plasma discharged by this weapon is capable of melting through all but the most thermally resistant materials.
  • Versatile: The weapon can either be fired in wide-spray mode, where while shorter range it can be used against multiple targets at once or to blanket an area in fire, or in focused mode where it has a longer range, though a single shot is usually capable of only affecting a single target.
  • It Burns: The plasma 'sticks' to what it impacts, and remains at an extremely high temperature even in the absence of oxygen to burn. This means that theoretically it does continual damage to shields, armor or even more horrifyingly, exposed flesh that it impacts.
WEAKNESSES
  • Limited Ammunition: Given that the weapon has only enough for 30 bursts or three minutes of firing on wide-spray mode, and half that on focused mode, meaning that its ammunition must be used sparingly given the dangers of carrying spare plasma gas medium canisters.
  • Short Range: The weapon's short range releagates it to use in close quarters firefights, such as one the user might find themselves in during urban combat. This relegates the weapon to more of a backup, rather than a primary weapon.
  • Too Hot: Too small to fit a cryoban cooling system, the weapon will shut down if the user attempts to fire two canisters worth of ammunition in quick succession without letting the weapon cool. In such a case, it will open emergency cooling vents and to let the weapon cool, and will lock down the weapon's firing mechanism.
  • Volatile Ammunition: Should the canister rupture, then it is likely that it will also explode. Such a situation is far from ideal.
DESCRIPTION
When they sought to replace the valiant vambrace mounted flamethrower, the team were sort of stumped on how they might do that, after all, vambrace mounted flamethrowers were a time honored tradition. As it typically happens in the company, a few drinks were the stimulus that led to one of them bringing up the incendiary plasma used in the Incinerator Plasma Railgun. What finally resulted from that research was the PC-05V Plasma Caster.

The high heat of the plasma discharged by this weapon is capable of melting through all but the most thermally resistant materials, making it especially useful given the profileration of heavy armor throughout the galaxy. The weapon can either be fired in wide-spray mode, where while shorter range it can be used against multiple targets at once or to blanket an area in fire, or in focused mode where it has a longer range, though a single shot is usually capable of only affecting a single target. The reason however that the plasma gas medium used in the incinerator was of interest was because of its ability to 'stick' to what it impacts, while remaining at an extremely high temperature even in the absence of oxygen to burn. This means that theoretically it does continual damage to shields, armor or even more horrifyingly, exposed flesh that it impacts.

However, the weapon has only enough for 30 bursts or three minutes of firing on wide-spray mode, and half that on focused mode, meaning that its ammunition must be used sparingly given the dangers of carrying spare plasma gas medium canisters. It's short range releagates it to use in close quarters firefights, such as one the user might find themselves in during urban combat. This relegates the weapon to more of a backup, rather than a primary weapon. Too small to fit a cryoban cooling system, the weapon will shut down if the user attempts to fire two canisters worth of ammunition in quick succession without letting the weapon cool. In such a case, it will open emergency cooling vents and to let the weapon cool, and will lock down the weapon's firing mechanism. On the subject of the weapon's ammunition, should the canister rupture, then it is likely that it will also explode. Such a situation is far from ideal.
