STRENGTHS
  • Firepower - The Mirage has a great deal of firepower, affording it a very comfortable place on the battlefield, especially if fielded in an attack role.
  • Field Disruption - The Mirage possesses a field disruption system which allows it to traverse through energy shields.
  • Electronic Warfare - The Mirage is equipped with a ECM suite that gives it an extra option against guided ordnance, in addition to sensor jamming capabilities.
  • Stealth and Distortion - The Mirage is equipped with a full suite of stealth systems, allowing the drone to maintain a virtually invisible sensor profile under most operating conditions, with more limited stealth capabilities during weapon discharges. In addition, the Mirage benefits from the addition of a Phase Masque, which works to effectively distort the craft's visual profile.
  • Void Dancer - The Mirage has a very minute amount of synthetic Void Stone integrated into its chassis. This is just enough to dampen the Force within a very small radius (~1.5 meters) around the craft, thereby giving it a measure of protection from Force powers.
  • Ballerina - The Mirage is extremely agile. A skilled pilot can weave the craft in and out of tight spaces, dive into narrow crooks, evade incoming missiles, and perform yet more feats of dazzling aerobatics. In addition, the drone can sustain an unpredictable, insect-like flight pattern that makes it very difficult to hit.
WEAKNESSES
  • Sensitive Passive Sensors - The passive sensor array on the shell of the Mirage is an extreme boon to the pilot’s battlespace awareness, especially in conditions where the use of active sensors may reveal the craft’s location. However, they are also very vulnerable, as even glancing blows can destroy or disable the sensors on or around the affected areas. In essence, as the shell takes more hits, the passive reception array will become increasingly ineffective.
  • Power Outage - Any activation of the field disruption system will disable the Mirage’s energy shields. In addition, the cloaking device and distortion matrix can not be used while the field disruptor is active.
  • Disconnect - In order to save on heat, power, and weight, the Mirage’s artificial intelligence is programmed and pared-down to exclusively play a support role to the remote pilot and can only perform basic functions on its own. As such, should the communication link between the remote pilot and the Mirage be severed, the drone’s capabilities will be severely compromised.
  • Overload - The Mirage is very reliant on the integrity of its electronics. While the drone is not outright defenseless against Io and EMP-based assaults, particularly heavy discharges can disable the machine or compromise its functionality.
DESCRIPTION
The FAE/D-01 “Mirage” Semi-Autonomous Stealth Attack Drone represents First United Astral Engineering’s first foray into UCAV technology. In this regard, the Mirage is a prototype design and test bed which is not only intended to iron out the quirks of the technology, but also to set the stage for greater investment in the near future. As such, the Mirage naturally pushes the limits of the UCAV platform, though not to the point of unreliability or impracticality.

The Mirage itself is a hyper-optimized, purpose-built killing machine intended to fuse the creativity of a sentient operator with the precision of synthetic intelligence. To this end, the drone is operated by both, with the onboard artificial intelligence playing a supporting role to the pilot, who remotely controls the drone from a command center. The mission profiles for the drone range all the way from ISTAR operations, assassination, and attack. Owing to its advanced, high-resolution sensor suite, onboard stealth systems, and extreme firepower, the Mirage lends itself very well to all three. However, the drone is also very capable as a terror weapon, a fact which is left unadvertised. Its stealth systems, high endurance, and (relatively) small size allows it to conduct target killings, exploit vulnerabilities, and damage infrastructure. In this regard, the Mirage does nothing to alleviate the bloodthirsty reputations that drone pilots often have and in fact, its design seems to actively encourage said activities.

While normally silent in operation (owing to its auditory dampeners), should these be turned off, the Mirage emits a shrill, high-pitched whining sound that in and of itself could be considered to be a form of psychological warfare.

All in all, the Mirage is a terrifying attack drone that represents the continued evolution and depersonalization of warfare in the Chaos era, making it such that killing can be done at the press of a button, from hundreds of kilometers away.
