STRENGTHS
  • Homing Fire - When equipped on a starship, vehicle, or other host platform, the FAE/C-02 allows the operator(s) to fire energy weapons off-axis from the barrels, effectively lending energy weapons’ fire a powerful homing capability, enhanced by Brilliant protocols. It effectively allows starfighters, vehicles, and capital vessels to engage targets from any angle regardless of gun position, permitting the host platform to fire on a target in situations which otherwise would have been nonviable.
  • Unexpected Trajectory - Often striking a target from unexpected trajectories, the FAE/C-02 can confuse reactive shielding systems, most notably Xythan Force shields and similar technologies, causing them to reflect energy attacks in a direction different from that of the attacking craft.
  • Long Range - While guiding bolt(s) across long ranges requires more power than at short ranges, the FAE/C-02 is nevertheless quite capable of doing so, so long as the weapon in question has the necessary range to sustain the integrity of the bolt(s) over such distances.
  • Electronic Warfare - The FAE/C-02 can counter electronic warfare or jamming to a fairly strong degree, especially if the host platform has a comprehensive sensor suite. Furthermore, the guidance protocols have a secondary radiation homing module, which can guide fire directly towards the closest sources of radiation and/or jamming.
WEAKNESSES
  • Overload - The Sleg Ultracapacitors can be dangerous when overloaded with energy, with a potential to explode or catch on fire.
  • Rogue Tractor Beams - As the FAE/C-02 utilizes tractor beam pulses to guide energy weapons’ fire to a given target, these guidance systems can be impeded to varying degrees by hostile tractor beams locked onto the host platform and/or the projected tractor beam pulses themselves, In essence, rogue tractor beams fired by enemy units equivalently-scaled to the FAC/C-02's host platform or higher can confuse the guidance systems, often making them lose control of the guided energy bolt(s).
  • Missiles and Slugs - While theoretically capable of doing so in limited contexts, the tractor beam pulses are unable to guide or control missiles or slugs to any effective degree, as more often they only act to slow them down.
  • Range and Power - The effective range of the tractor pulses homing capability is limited to that of the energy weapon itself. However, the longer that a bolt has to fly in being guided to a given target, the more power it will demand as the guiding tractor pulses must be continuously maintained until it hits its target. As such, while the tractor pulses are capable of guiding a bolt through sharp turns over long distances, it is more efficient to aim directly at the target via traditional means, while only utilizing the guidance systems to execute minor corrections.
DESCRIPTION
Taking after an ancient technology incorporated in the Nantex-class Territorial Defense Starfighter, the FAE/C-02 Tractor Guidance Network was created by First United Astral Engineering as an in-house successor design to the Geonosian predecessor. Utilizing an array of miniaturized tractor beam generators, supported by a network of magnite crystals, the FAE/C-02 is capable of guiding traditionally unguided weaponry, including energy bombs, energy torpedos, laser cannons, turbolasers, and virtually all other kinds of energy weaponry to a given target via precise tractor pulses linked to the host platform’s sensor and targeting suite.

While the system is powerful, it is not without limitations. Rogue tractor beams can disrupt a targeting lock in many contexts, disrupting the guidance systems on the host platform. Range and bolt flight time can also be an issue. In general, bolts which fly longer, further away from the host platform, and/or must take sharp turns in order to keep up with a target, will demand more power as tractor pulses must be actively fired throughout the process, up until the bolt either strikes a target and/or the operator chooses to cease guiding it.

Nevertheless, the FAE/C-02 Tractor Guidance Network is expected to be a successful system, to hopefully be incorporated into First United Astral Engineering’s future designs and refits.
