- Energy Neutralizer - The battle suit maintains a fairly robust network of defenses against energy weapons, featuring gammaplast plating, armorweave, energy sinks, Integrum, and other protective systems, the armor is a strong platform for aerial and space infantry in defending against the most common weapons on the modern battlefield.
- Void Fighter - Essentially a miniaturized starfighter battle suit, the FAE/A-08’s defining characteristic is its ability to effectively dogfight in space, air, and underwater. While the power output of its weapons might prove insufficient to penetrate the shields and hull of a modern starfighter, owing to the battlesuit’s propulsion system, it can keep pace with fast interceptors. In addition, given the smaller size and greater flexibility of a physical body over that of a vehicle, it is far more agile to the point that vehicle and fighter-grade weapons may have a hard time tracking it.
- Liquid Armor - The battle suit's sleek appearance belies its robust capacity for defending the wearer against kinetic weaponry. The combination of light gammaplast plating and a shear thickening fluid layer makes the suit very effective in mitigating kinetic force and penetration, affording the wearer a good degree of protection against slugthrowers and other kinetic weaponry.
- Scream of Defiance - The battle suit's integrated sound dampening overlay affords the suit a good ability to dampen incoming fire from most types of sonic weaponry, thereby protecting the wearer and her internal organs from the deleterious effects of these assaults.
- Storm Dancer - A highly robust design, the battle suit is hardened against Ion and EMP-based assaults to a very high degree, allowing it to be quite reliable under conditions of interference which would otherwise disable much of the armor’s electronics.
- Strength Augmentation - The battle suit provides its wearer with a fourfold strength enhancement due to the energized and reactive polymers utilized in the entirety of its construction, similar to the polymers in Crushgaunts. This allows the user to carry heavier weapons, ammunition, and other equipment with significantly more ease, while also granting her the ability to challenge and overcome physically stronger opponents in hand-to-hand combat. It also lends her a boost to mobility, athleticism, stamina, and running speed. Like virtually all systems in the armor, the reactive and energized polymers are linked directly to the neural interface to ensure maximum fluidity.
- Surface Damage - While the battle suit’s equipped Dream Sight possesses an extremely advanced surface-integrated passive reception array, any direct damage to the surface of the armor may diminish the efficacy of the system due to the destruction of a number of passive micro-sensors.
- Mechanical Mutation - Given the degree of advanced technology and automation implemented into the battle suit, it is quite vulnerable to malicious influence from a skilled practitioner of Mechu-deru, provided that they have a clear line of sight to the suit.
- Bone Chill - The battle suit’s performance in defending its wearer from weaponized cold leaves much to be desired. While its protection is better than nothing, the wearer is better off depending on an external system to defend against this class of weapon.
- Acerbic Affliction - In addition to being capable of destroying the battle suit’s network of passive, surface-integrated sensors, corrosive and acid weapons present a much larger problem in that they are also very effective at eating through the protective material to harm the wearer directly, potentially inflicting a host of deleterious effects, depending on the weapon.
- Small Fish in a Big Ocean - In the context of the space and atmospheric combat (albeit to a lesser extent) which the battle suit is designed for, it is a tiny fish in a big ocean. While hitting it with vehicle or fighter-grade weapons is akin to trying to kill a fly with a rifle, any shot that hits will be a nigh-guaranteed one-shot disable or kill, simply due to the size of the battlesuit as compared to a starfighter. In essence, the battle suit is hard to hit, but a vehicle or starfighter needs only to hit it once.
- Stormtrooper Plastic - Unfortunately, the battle suit’s gammaplast isn’t of high enough grade to offer a good defense against lightsabers. These vaunted, mystical weapons will cut through the protective material like butter, with the potential to hack off limbs in the process. Given the proliferation of Force-users in the modern era, this is something that the wearer must always keep in mind.
Arguably the most important technology in the Butterfly Corps project, the FAE/A-08 Butterfly Battle Suit is the mainline battle suit of the unit. It is optimized for space and aerial combat, essentially functioning as a miniaturized starfighter in both respects. The central system that enables this capability is the FAE/U-03 “Aeshma” Hybrid Propulsion System, which offers nigh-unparalleled flight performance in virtually every conceivable environment, from deep space to underwater.
The FAE/A-08 comes with the standard sensor suite, medical support module, and utility systems featured in nearly all armors produced by First United Astral Engineering. However, of particular note is the integrated armament housed within the gauntlets. Very often, these will be the only weapons used by a soldier, as the high speeds of space and aerial combat can make longarm weapons more demanding to wield. As such, the gauntlets received their own dedicated development before being fitted to the FAE/A-08, allowing them to accommodate an integrated targeting system in addition to various utility capabilities.
In terms of the defense capabilities, the designers prioritized a high resistance to Ion and EMP-based weapons, as the battle suit’s capabilities depend on the functioning of its electronic systems. The battle suit is also quite reliable against energy, kinetic, and sonic-based weapons. Unfortunately, the materials used in the armor are not of a high enough grade to defend against lightsabers. Nevertheless, the battle suit is capable of providing robust protection against most common threats, enabling survivability for the wearer.
All in all, the FAE/A-08 Butterfly Battle Suit is hoped to perform well as a primary personal armor system for the Butterfly Corps, giving its wearers a potentially lethal edge over their opponents!
