Energy flowed out of the Ultranauts' weapons, invisible to human eyes but glowing brightly in The Manifold's enhanced vision, and into the drone's systems. But the Eternal Empire soldiers weren't stopped by the failure of their blasters; apparently their weapons were
also slugthrowers, adapting depending on their target and remaining ammunition for each mode. They moved forward without fear, attempting to get deeper into the castle. Of course, that could not be allowed; only the servants of the divine could be permitted to tread the halls of the Droid God, not these heretics and blasphemers. The Manifold moved in front of them, blades raised, ready to strike.
"Final Warning: Halt."
Naturally, the troopers didn't listen. Mortals were so predictable... and so frustrating. Why resist the will of God?
The troopers opened fire, the
boom of their slugthrowers ringing out deafeningly loud in the tight corridor. The Manifold raised their hand once again, calling up all the energy it had stolen from their blasters and transforming it into a shield. The shimmering barrier was made of the same high-energy particles that made up blaster bolts, and as the bullets struck it, they melted. Rather than being ripped apart in a hail of lead, the drone was occasionally spattered with liquid metal, which dripped down its corpse-like flesh. It would have been a painful, horrific fate for a mortal... but The Manifold had no nerves in their dead organic body, which was merely a vessel for the drone's implants and bound souls.
Behind them, the drone sensed the arrival of an ally: The Votary. Now
this was an efficient drone, a worthy representation of Omni's perfection. The Manifold was not truly capable of gladness or gratitude, but they updated their calculated percentage of victory in a positive direction and viewed this as beneficial to the Droid God's design. As their ally advanced, they lashed out at the troopers firing at them, their long tentacles striking around the edges of the shield to swipe at the Ultranauts. The tendrils, made of flexible metal reinforced with cortosis, were each stronger than a Mantellian Savrip, capable of ripping a full-grown man in half with ease... and the blades at the ends were razor sharp.
These blades swung with that full, man-ripping force, trying to scythe through the Ultranauts from both sides.
As the battle began, the minion of Omni against the minions of the Empress, The Manifold did not even watch their attack; their many sensors, and powerful Force abilities, meant they did not need eyes to see. Instead those burning eyes turned back to Ingrid, and the drone spoke, replying to her demand.
"Request: Denied," The Manifold boomed, their voice level and emotionless despite being in the middle of a fight.
"You: Unworthy. Omni: Beyond Mortal Comprehension." It was the duty of both Omni-drones to protect this castle, and the heart that lay deep within. No one, no matter how ambitious, no matter how powerful, could be permitted to interfere in the Great Architect's design.
