ADVANCED SYSTEMS

Strengths:

  • Stealth: The Serran has the capability to go stealth enabling it to carry out missions at Darth Avacyn’s with some manner of secrecy.
  • Presence: The sight of the Serran is certainly a boost of morale for the Sith Armada, encouraging them to continue the fight in the Emperor’s name.
Weaknesses:
  • Exhaust: While the ship may boast a number of stealth systems it is not completely stealthy, and can still be tracked through advanced sensor systems.
  • Siaber: A lot of the Serran’s weapons and even some of her components have been built with Siaber/Sianium technology. Leaving the ship at the mercy of these crystals that when unstable can have catastrophic results.
  • Target: A ship of this size is definitely a huge target without a doubt it’ll attract a lot of unwanted attention on the battlefield.
  • Time: Precious seconds tick away as the Serran emerges out of stealth. This is a perfect chance for opponents to attack while shields and weapons are still powering up, this is when the ship is most vulnerable.
Description:

From her sleek exterior to the elegant interior there was no expense spared in the construction of the Serran. The Serran speaks to an older style of shipbuilding while still possessing the modern capabilities of any warship in the Sith Armada. Built and designed by Primo Victorian Shipwright, the Serran was based on Darth Arcanix’s flagship the Elidibus. She would be built at an orbital shipyard surrounding Bastion and would serve as Darth Avacyn’s mobile base of operations.

Speaking to an older style of shipbuilding, the Serran’s interior is a reminder of where Primo Victorian and in part of where Darth Avacyn got her start. Reminiscent of early First Order starships the super star destroyer features expanded corridors, with red carpet floors and light gray paneling. The Serran’s bridge is absent of the typical ‘trench’ that is common among Imperial designs. Instead, are rows of consoles and computers laid out before a massive viewport or viewscreen as it may be referred to.

Near the rear of the bridge in the centermost platform is the command center where the command team, in addition to Darth Avacyn herself can be found. From the bridge are the commander’s ready room, bridge armory, emergency lift to an auxiliary command center, and an auxiliary hangar, a battle meditation chamber.

The meditation chamber is meant not necessarily for Avacyn but certainly one of Avacyn’s apprentices or perhaps a colleague or two. It is where the Sith may go to better aid the personnel aboard the ship with
the use of the Force. There are additional meditation chambers throughout the Serran to create a more effective meditation sphere around the vessel.

Getting to and from various sections of the ship can be done through either lifts or tram. These include freight and emergency lifts and trams, the former designed to help get cargo and equipment around much faster. While the latter is meant strictly for emergency purposes such as ferrying the wounded or hazard control teams. Emergency lifts and trams generally connect sections such as the hangar and the infirmary for example, directly to one another creating an ‘express’ route.

This creates a more efficient method of getting people and equipment to where they need to go. Something especially helpful on a ship that boasts six hundred and forty-four decks split between fourteen sections. Each section holds forty-six decks, the numbering system is an alphanumeric system such as E19 would refer to section E, deck 19.

The Serran is equipped with an enhanced hyperdrive and fast sublight engines, along with several dedicated generators for various systems. There are two back-up hyperdrive systems within the vessel as well, this is to ensure the ship’s mobility in case of emergencies. Neither of the back-up hyperdrive systems are nearly as strong as their counterpart but will suffice. Additional generators and sublight engines are also available on the Serran and work to aid the ship during emergency operations.

Serving as a mobile operations center for the Sith Valkyries the vessel features its own Stave, Feasting Hall and ‘Longhouse.’ The Valkyries are outfitted with living, crafting and training areas in their section of the ship. The Sisters have access to their own hangar allowing them to come and go from the vessel as necessary without disrupting Imperial operations.

A total of fifty-two squadrons are assigned to the ship with forty-two of them being
combat-oriented. The other ten squadrons are support craft, which can range from transport and medical to diplomatic and scout ships. Amenities for the Starfighter Corps personnel have been accommodated aboard the Serran. Dormitories, craft maintenance, mess hall, training have been accounted for. Much of this is the same for the Legionnaires who are aboard the vessel as well.

Internal defenses include the retractable bulkheads that keep each of the fourteen sections separated and emergency bulkheads that come down between each section. These can be used to isolate intruders or other unwanted personnel. Retractable blast barriers, automated war droids, and advanced biometric security systems, along with extensive security systems. These and the myriad of other internal defense systems are to slow intruders down allowing time for ship-board Legionnaires to terminate these threats.

Tactical defenses include the Semira Defensive Shield System, which is backed by a redundant deflector shield system with shield boost. The Semira Defensive Shield System at its core is a deflector shield, with the ability to become a molecular shield in that its molecular add-on grants it a ‘temporary’ immunity against plasmatic and ion weapons. The molecular add-on is one of three options in which the shield is able to do. The other two options are siphon which works much in the same way as a shield leech. The last option is the polarization option which allows the system to convert absorbed weapons energy back into its own shield power (strength). Second to this a standard deflector shield with a simple shield boost. At last resort, the emergency shield is the ship’s particle shield generator.

From there the Serran relies heavily on her hull composition which includes the Archer-type reactive hull plating system. The Archer-type reactive hull plating system allows an enemy’s weapons energy to be converted for the ship’s own use. Beneath this hull plating system is a crystalamnium reinforced durasteel hull with a crystaplast and reinforced duraplast latticed hull liner. The Serran’s frame is impervium reinforced durasteel while the viewports are made of solarium glasteel over traditional glasteel for the ship’s viewports. Turadium blast shields and shutters, along with agrinium and dallorian alloys and a damage reduction plating system over key components and critical areas round out the ship’s hull composition.

The Serran’s defenses are not limited to her shield and hull, but also include a number of countermeasures and tactical security systems. Anti-ordnance EM probes chaffs and flares along with a missile deactivation transmitter aid in her capability to defend against missiles. While an anti-ion mesh, cap drains, socket guards and de-ionizer provide the Serran with her anti-ion systems. Sensor jammers include a sensor scrambler, comtech jammer, and long/range sensor jammers and an IFF Confuser to be used when necessary. Lastly, the ship has a reactionary repulsor field generator works on a reactionary basis keeping things such as spatial bodies away from the vessel. It can also work to keep projectiles away from the ship, but this is a secondary role of the generator.

The ship’s advanced systems are split into two categories sensor and stealth. The exception being the Keynes Decoder Terminal System which operates to decode already intercepted encrypted transmissions. The Serran’s advanced sensor package includes the new Blackout Communications Sensor systems which work to disrupt communications on either a planetary or
system-wide scale. The system does this temporarily and is meant to aid the Empire during wartime. Rounding out sensors systems are the standard Sith Imperial suite of the Vestige Communications, Hunter Targeting/Tracking, and the Suzerain Sensor Suite.

Note, the Serran also has the Maelstrom Advanced Tracking and Targeting System. The two systems can be used together to help provide more accurate targeting solutions, Or they can be used independently of each other. In addition to this system, the ship’s sensors include a
cronau radiation amplifier, gravimetric sensor net, tachyon emitter, and tachyon pulse emitter. These are more or less anti-stealth measures and work to help locate stealth vessels.

The stealth management suite for the Serran includes an
anti-radar defense unit, scanner-blocking field, sensor mask, optical shield, photonic emitter, spectral diffuser, signature modulator, electromagnetic shield, gravitic amplitude modulator and finally an anti-ion emissions tracer. Anti radar defense units helps the Serran to undermine radar by cloaking it. This in addition to the scanner-blocking field device helps prevent detection by scanners or radar.

A sensor mask, coupled with the optical and electromagnetic shield helped to distort visual observation of the vessel. The sensor mask specifically making it more difficult for the ship to be found by sensors. While the electromagnetic shield was used to deflect sensors. The photonic emitter in conjunction with the spectral diffuser helped to reduce the Serran’s physical presence. Signature modulator aided the Serran by masking her signature lastly the gravitic amplitude modulator allowed the ship to modulate the gravity around her.

The Serran certainly boasted quite a number of both stealth and defensive features. However, a note on her stealth systems, she could not fire her weapons while
stealth. Additionally, she was usually unshielded during this time having only her stealth systems to guard her. Which meant when she came out of stealth there was precious time ticking away as her crews worked to bring shields and weapons online.

Now, there was one last defensive measure that the ship had. Which some may wonder as to who it is an ablative armor can be listed as, ‘emergency-only.’ The Serran had featured the Intrepid-type emergency ablative armor. This armor could be deployed in the event of severe damage, giving the ship a chance to hyperspace jump away from danger. The Intrepid had two key parts, the first of which were the liquid to solid state dispensers, the second were the plates. These plates are beneath the secondary hull and liner, or in the Serran’s case beneath the
crystalamnium reinforced durasteel hull.

These were made of reinforced duraplast with myogel on an imprevium-fused doonium plates with a trilamnium alloy underlay. The liquid to solid state dispensers when activated would then fill in the gaps of the ship’s hull as the plates moved to seal themselves over the ship. Together they would form a solid shell around the ship enabling it to withstand a good amount of damage until they were able hyperspace jump away. Now, unfortunately, the duration was quite short, thirty seconds maximum - but the hope was that this would be enough time for whatever ship it was over to get out of danger. Once it has been used, the emergency armor does shatter and break apart from the vessel itself.

Weapon systems aboard the Serran were numerous and included railguns, long-range turbolasers and a lot of cannons. Each weapon had its own strengths and weaknesses but combined they helped to make the Serran a long-range juggernaut in her own right. Boasting some of Primo Victorian’s then newest weapons systems Mars, Bellona and Atalanta mass driver cannons the Serran certainly looked to punish ships in its wake. Each of the aforementioned cannon came with its own ionization field as a workaround for standard deflector shields. Without the ionization field, they certainly posed a threat to vessels who relied heavily on molecular shields alone. These cannons weren’t the only big guns the Serran had, the ship also carried the latest in weaponry from Aurora Industries including the Arietis turbolasers and Hydrus ion cannons.

She also had thirty-six of the mark two, Longbow Plasma Railguns - heavy hitting long-range plasma railguns that focused on dealing damage over time. Hypervelocity cannons were also added to the ship in an effort to help curb enemy starfighter strafing runs. These cannons were able to put out thousands upon thousands of rounds of flak. Combined with the ion cannons, it made attacking the Serran as a fighter pilot a lot harder than it would have been otherwise. The ship also had rotary point defense cannons both traditional laser and ion. Anti-missile octets in combination with the Ovmar Missile Defense System would be another countermeasure against incoming missiles.

Overall, the Serran would be the blend of Primo Victorian, Aurora Industries and Sith Imperial technology of the time. While its aesthetics spoke to what had been considered a bygone era of First Imperial ship design. As it included more ‘comfortable’ amenities that were not normally featured on Imperial ships, such as recreational holosuites fitness facilities, arboretums and even an onboard commissary in which crew could purchase leisure items. A happy and comfortable crew meant a more productive and effective crew during combat operations. Given that officers and crew could be expected to be stationed on the Serran for years at a time, it was important to the Sith Empire that the Imperials were treated well.

Change Log:

  • January 20th 2020; General maintenance and clean up due to server migration, adjustments made for new factory standards - swapped ion cannons, added deflector shield generator.

Hey, [member="Fiolette Raaf"], I'll be reviewing your sub.

Excellent submission, as always, very clear and concise. Most of the systems are either standard for this type of vessel, or uniquely made by yourself, so looking into the components and systems was enjoyable. That said, I have found two possible sources for issue, which are:

1. Hangar Bays: The average hangar capacity for a ship this size is 51, not 52. If you prefer an even number, it should be rounded down for fairness to 50. This will also need to reflect number changes to squadrons in the description.

2. Reactionary repulsor field generator: This one is a bit more complicated. Due to the original canon version its based on, and the very specific method it used to function, your variation offers all the benefits with no drawbacks.

In canon, the repulsorfield shells function due to interacting with one or more other fields; ie: two basketballs hitting and bouncing away from one another.

...their shells interacted and pushed the asteroids away from each other.
The specific in this instance is the inclusion of another field shell, which allows for the repulsor effect and the rebounding.

Your generator doesn't have the secondary field shell, so it's lacking the action (two field shells touching) to gain the repulsing reaction (pushing one another away). Since this safety measure for floating asteroid colonies has been adapted for combat purposes, my suggestion is to consider making a sub that can be used for this system from this SSD onward, which is balanced by strengths and drawbacks. I would also suggest editing past vessels that include this system with the (future) sub, if you go that route.

So, why consider a separate system sub for your Reactionary repulsor field generator?

1. What does, or doesn't, it effect? Missile projectiles, surely, but what about vessels? Railgun rounds? what about your own missiles fired from inside?
2. What happens if friendly vessels wish to approach? Does the whole shield come down, or a portion?
3. What makes it reactionary? Does this mean a permanent activated state, or is it monitored by a team that activates it as needed?
3b. If it is permanently activated, how do you determine polarity for repulsing between friendly and enemy objects? Transponder identifiers? Manual deactivation, etc?
4. Does having this system active interact with your other shielding systems? Is it closer to the vessel, or beyond the shield tier radius?
5. How much damage or repulsing can it withstand before it's too much? Does it even have an activated state degradation limitation?

Just some considerations if you decide to make a sub for the system. If you want to take the time for this generator to be subbed, we can put a pin in this until it's completed (and I will work with you on the generator, to get it done asap, to reduce SSD hold up time). Alternatively, you can opt to remove it from this (and other) subs which use it.

Please let me know your decision, and we'll go from there!

If we could look into those adjustments, we can progress toward a secondary Admin approval to get TSE another SSD.

A bevy of broken links for you to fix before I can fix, I'm afraid.

Also, not sure if it is an intentional or not, but you're actually two ratings below balance. I think you're still calculating using the 'moderate' rating which has been removed.

There's also a few formatting errors in here, but that's just my OCD kicking in. They're not a mandatory fix.
