DESCRIPTION
No longer firing pure energy the upgraded cannon fires a combination of projectile and energy. A shaped-charge round, packed with tibanna gas the cannon is designed to do more than just cause electrical interference. The shaped-charge round now allows the cannon to have a more effective penetration rate. Shells are created from depleted-baradium at eighty-eight millimeters. Taking advantage of Aurora Industries’ sianium (siaber) power crystals the Nagata as an increased firing rate, over its predecessor. This has also increased the stopping power of rounds fired from the Nagata-type.

Can be set up for stutter-fire, and is capable of being fast track mounting, fire-linked. The Nagata-type is also capable of being set up as a quad cannon, however; if it is set up for anything beyond single mount. Such as, twin-mounted or aforementioned quad, the Nagata is then unable to utilize the stutter-fire feature. Sutter-fire feature also results in lower firing rates, higher recoil, and slower reload while also lowering the cannon’s effective range. In exchange, the Nagata’s stopping power is increased. Outside of stutter-fire mode, the newly designed plasma cannon delivers its payload on impact. Utilizing simple railgun mechanics the cannon fires eighty-eight-millimeter projectiles carrying the unstable Tibanna Gas.

The Nagata was initially going to be a replacement for the Tasha-type, however; the project changed over its development. While a second generation of the Tasha is still in the works, the Nagata’s project was finalized with early shipments going to contracted buyers first.

Strengths:

  • Penetration: Effective penetration from a tibanna gas packed shaped-charge round.

  • Sianium: Utilizes Sianium for an increased rate of fire.

  • Stutter-Fire: Capable of stutter-fire mode at lowered ratings, for higher stopping power.

  • Amplifier: The amplifier has been added as part of a barrel extension, this allows the weapon to either ionize the shells or give the shells a plasma-disruptor charge. Both are setting dependent, and the amplifier can be enabled or disabled by choice of the gun crews.
Weaknesses:

  • Sianium: May cause overheating/broken crystal issues which may lead to catastrophic results for both ship and gun crews.

  • Stutter-Fire: While capable of stutter-fire mode it does at the sacrifice of range, recoil, reload and rate of fire for higher stopping power.

  • Rail Degradation: Rails may degrade due to heating issues during rapid-firing sessions as well as overheating from the sianium power generator.

  • Shield: The weapon performs well when up against those who lack particle shielding, as the kinetic damage would be mitigated. This results in minimal damage being done to the shields, let alone the hull.
Update: The Nagata has been given additional ammunition types, and has been reforged with improved compounds to eliminate it's weakness to ion/emp. An amplifier has been added onto the weapon to give it an added 'punch' or improved 'damage' output.
