DESCRIPTION
VMAT-MDSII or simply the Ovmar named for Commodore Evangeline Ovmar who developed the Pursuit Missile Defense System. The Ovmar capable of firing a variety of missiles at long range range is not a full replacement for anti-missile octets but instead works in conjunction with them. While the Ovmar is designed to face off against a variety of opponents, from missiles and starfighters to larger capital ships.

The primary role of this missile system, however; is to tackle starfighters and missiles and by default comes equipped with nano missiles. Internal sensors and tracking make identifying and tracking enemy starfighters and missiles a breeze. In addition, the missile system is able to track and target multiple targets making it easier to go against small and fast moving opponents.

The Ovmar also includes an auto-lock firing mechanism making it easier to target-lock fire on aforementioned opponents. Auto-Lock Firing may be turned off in favor of manual firing which may work for larger capital vessels. The Ovmar is also capable of automated reload within the same type of ammunition. For changes to a different type of ammunition such as going from nano missiles to disruptor torpedoes, a member of the ordnance crew will have to manually change the ammunition track.

The Ovmar is also equipped with an internal temperature check so that crews may maintain internal temperatures and be on the lookout for overheating as well as internal degradation. A turreted base ensures a full firing radius, with a 90° firing arc. Heuristic data processing enables the Ovmar to formulate new firing patterns. New firing patterns can be enabled at the start of a new engagement, and cannot be engaged in the current engagement.

Strengths:

 • Targeting: Multi-targeting, tracking and sensors help give the Ovmar an edge when fighting against starfighters or defending against incoming missiles.

 • Data Processing: Heuristic data processing enables the Ovmar to develop new ‘strategies’ and firing patterns based on the engagements it participates in.

Weaknesses:

 • Overheating: The Ovmar is prone to overheating due to the internal components proximity to one another. Overheating may cause sympathetic detonation within the missile system causing catastrophic blowback.

 • Degradation: Due to the heating, the missile system is prone to degradation which can cause malfunctions within the system. The fear is that a malfunction occurs while in the middle of an engagement.

 • Misfire: This may also result in a missile jam in which the missiles do not launch and instead remain within the launcher. Misfires may also occur when the auto-lock/targeting system result in a dumbfire or premature detonation.

Note: Changing ammunition types, i.e., going from nano missiles to disruptor torpedoes results in a cooldown of at least two minutes (two posts). May not call hits, or force a writer to take damage.
