PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • More efficient converters allow for a higher exhaust release, making the fuel consumption of starships more cost-effective.
  • Insulation materials prevent heat and radiation from being emitted from the ion drives, both making the ion drives safer for organic mechanical crews and making the heat-exhaust propulsion system of the RX-D13 more efficient.
  • Heat-resistant alloys prevent warping of the RX-D13 from high temperatures, enabling the RX-D13 able to perform at higher exhaust rates and thus increasing the maximum speed that can be achieved via the ion drives.
  • Liquid-Aenite coating, Duranium and Alusteel all protect the RX-D13 from external damage.
STRENGTHS
  • Fast and Efficient: If one thing can be said about the RX-D13, it's that it gets the job done. Insulation prevents heat escaping via metal tubing, heat-resistant alloys in turn raise the max temperature that the RX-D13 can take without internal damage, and efficient power converters make fuel-consumption more cost effective.
  • Reinforced: The RX-D13 is protected by three layers of different materials; alusteel, military-grade duranium and finally a coating of liquid aenite. No chances are taken with ion drives, as they are designed to be the primary propulsion system for a starship.
WEAKNESSES
  • Rumble, Stumble: The RX-D13 is designed to give out massive amounts of power and thrust, but as a result it does not function very well when it comes to precise maneuvers, thus requiring ship manufacturers to install separate precision drives to achieve better maneuverability.
DESCRIPTION
The RX-D13 Sublight Ion Drive was created by Roble Manufacturing to, essentially, be the workhorse of a ship's propulsion systems. With an overall efficient design that decreases excess heat radiated from the drive, a higher temperature tolerance and a more streamlined process of redirecting that heat through the exhaust, the RX-D13 is able to accelerate ships at great speeds (and quickly, as well). However, the massive size and power output of the RX-D13 means that it is very clumsy when it comes to precise maneuvers, and large starships must install precision drives to increase that sector. However, the RX-D13 is a vital part to any starship, military or civilian, and will get the job done.
