  • Classification: Anti-Starfighter Laser Cannon
  • Size: Large
  • Weight: Heavy
  • Ammunition Type: Tibanna Cannisters, Sybarium Crystal power generator
  • Ammunition Capacity: Effectively Unlimited

  • Reload Speed: Slow
  • Effective Range: Average
  • Rate of Fire: Very High
  • Stopping Power: Very High

SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The barrels of the RMAF-M2 are encased in SACG-23S Shock-Absorbant Gel, reducing the backwards recoil of the emplacement significantly as well as acting as a coolant for the weapon's core.
  • The RMAF-M2 is controlled remotely, which means there can be a level of flexibility to where the emplacement is put.
  • The RMAF-M2 can be toggled between automated and manual fire modes, as well as computer-assisted targeting.
  • The RMAF-M2 can interface with ship sensor systems to discern whether a starfighter is a friend or foe, assisting with automated fire mode.
  • The RMAF-M2 can be installed as a ground defense as well as being a capital ship emplacement.
STRENGTHS
  • Fast and Furious: The RMAF-M2 fires very quickly and has a high damage rate thanks to it's Sybarium Crystal power generator, making it the bane of starfighters and bombers alike.
  • Versatile: The RMAF-M2 can be controlled remotely, both protecting the safety of the gunner and making it's placement on a ship more flexible. It can also be toggled between automated and manual fire modes, and is compatible with computer-assisted targeting.
  • In Space or On Ground: The RMAF-M2 can both be used as a capital ship emplacement and as a ground-side anti-fighter AA cannon.
WEAKNESSES
  • Automated Fire Mode: The capabilities of the RMAF-M2's automated firing mode is only as good as the ship's sensor systems and how quickly it can discern between friendly and enemy starfighters. Automated Fire Mode also has slightly higher possibility of hitting friendly fighters in the crossfire if the space around it is particularly chaotic.
  • Better in Bulk/Range Limitations: The more point-defense cannons there are, the better. The RMAF-M2's effectiveness is significantly decreased when the number of emplacements is lessened, as much of the RMAF-M2's power comes from being able to completely restrict surrounding airspace. This also means that it isn't as effective at longer ranges where enemy aircraft can more easily evade the ship.
  • Overheating: The RMAF-M2 is not able to forever fire at a target, and has to pause in between streams of laser-fire to cool down. While it's core is protected from heat by SACG-23S Shock-Absorbant Gel, the barrels of the RMAF-M2 can be warped if exposed to consistent extreme heat, and thus each cannon has a cool-down period to prevent barrel damage.
DESCRIPTION
The RMAF-M2, the debut point-defense system of Roble Manufacturing, is designed to be the optimal anti-fighter emplacement for capital ships. Officially designated as the Roble Manufacturing Anti Fighter-Mark 2, the RMAF-M2 is designed to be an all-around space controlling laser cannon. The point-defense cannon on a smaller scale is able to fire at an extremely fast rate, and when combined with it's quad-barreled design means that it can let out a deadly stream of laser fire against enemy fighters. Combined with others of it's number, the RMAF-M2 employs a strategy of creating essentially a bubble of airspace filled with laser fire that denies access to any enemy fighters. The RMAF-M2 is also quite versatile, as it's able to be employed on both the ground and capital ships, can switch between automated and manual fire modes, and is controlled remotely which also increases the safety of it's operating crew.

However, the RMAF-M2 does include some limitations. It's more effective when combined in numbers and is shooting at starfighters from a relatively closer range. Operators of the RMAF-M2 point-defense cannon must also be aware not to overheat the cannon and of the potential dangers of it's automated firing mode so that friendly fire does not occur.
