OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create 'The First Legion', for the Emperor's use.
  • Image Credit: Ash ThorpKuperjanov Infantry Battalion
  • Role:
    • Built as the special forces of the Emperor of the Lords of the Sith, the First Legion is the premiere Legion all others strive to be. As a frontline unit, as a means to round up a city, or for special purpose infiltration missions under cover of night; The First Legion does any job thrown its way, and it does it well. Tasked by the Dark Council to finish a job that no other unit can - or to squash insurrection where needed, they are both a figure of fear in all the Imperiums and a righteous tool for the Dark Lords to use.

COMBAT INFORMATION:
Strengths:
  • The Emperor's Fist -
    • On the battlefield, The First Legion is feared when they come over the trenches walls - as they are the creator and ender of any No Man's Land. Trained in various forms of conventional combat, the Legion can push and drive like no other; outmatched only by the heavily armored divisions of the 15th Column. This helps make them the legendary sight that they are on the battlefield, deplored to the worst hellscapes war has to offer on a variety of planets.
  • Dark Scalpel -
    • Doubling as one of the largest special forces brigades in the Empire, The First Legion doubles as both a front line brigade when deployed in full, and a highly specialized weapon that works on various high stake operations around the Galaxy. Built as an extension of the Emperor's power, they can sneak onto planets to deal with the most dangerous of assignments; from assassination to subterfuge, working directly with Frumentarii agents when required.
Weaknesses:
  • A Life In Service -
    • While many are trained from birth, many more are chosen from the elite and standouts of various other Legions. This makes them exceptionally skilled, but doubly hard to replace when they are cut down. Large amounts of training, screening, and genetic augmentations make them extremely difficult to repopulate in the situation a large amount of them are killed in a single instance.
  • The Human Mind -
    • Due to their propensity to be deployed in the most dangerous of environments, The First Legion is also notorious for its washout rate; large swaths of them dealing with heavy emotional stress and CPTSD. This makes them physically dangerous on the battlefield, but equally as so on their own vessels - leading to a higher than usual rate of psychoactive therapy and medication for the majority of their forces.
  • Armour Column -
    • Without a direct armor division backing their approach, The First Legion's tactical options are extremely restricted to what heavy infantry and shock troopers themselves can commit to. This makes them viable in urban combat, but far less viable in open plains or areas where heavy vehicle presence is required.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Created during the Clone Wars, the 501st was created as the precursor to The First Legion. Handpicked by the Sith Lord Dooku to be a template for an elite army, the 501st was designed from the ground up to be the ultimate soldiers - fighting in an untold number of battles to establish a reputation that seemed nigh mythical for their standing. Yet, even their veteran status, stellar war record, and specially designed clone template - they would be further trained into the most feared legion in the Galaxy.
In the Year 22BBY, Palpatine had moved the clones to Coruscant for a specialized training regime that would accelerate them far beyond the comparative clone legions they fought alongside with. Various soldiers were transferred to other legions for special operation status answering only to the Chancellor, but more were assigned directly under Anakin Skywalker - known as Torrent Company.
Under Anakin, the 501st and Torrent Company grew even more respected to a legendary boogeyman that persists even hundreds of years later. From the Battle of Christophsis to Umbara; the 501st settled battles that other legions couldn't be trusted to ensure a victory. Feared for their effectiveness, they were moved from planet to planet to clean up the remnant Confederate Forces until the Jedi Coup that would happen years later.
During the Jedi Coup, the 501st was secretly transported back to Coruscant in preparation for Order 66. Rendezvousing with the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader, they proceeded to raid the Jedi Temple and commit the greatest Jedi Genocide seen in years; unable to ignore the order due to the internal programming and conditioning they had received. From the Jedi Temple Security Force to the Master, Knights, Padawans, and Younglings; the 501st killed everyone within the Temple for the sake of the Republic.
Later, under Imperial Rule, the 501st would become known as 'Vader's Fist' - they would continue their onslaught on rebellious elements, hunting down rogue Jedi, and serving as counter-insurgency across the galaxy. From Kessel to Atoa, they would spread the name of Vader's Fist until the costly battle of Atoa would claim massive amounts of the aging 501st. Followed by the coup on Darth Vader's Star Destroyer, most of the officers and many of the remaining stormtroopers would be executed.
Following the various war efforts of the 501st in keeping the Empire cohesive, the breakout of the Galactic Civil War encouraged Darth Vader to create a new Legion to better support his endeavors. Pulled from only the Elite of the 501st, the First Legion was created to better enforce his will - even more renowned than the 501st for their effectiveness. Respected by even Grand Adrimal Thrawn, they held onto their reputation through their brutal nature and ability to accomplish far more than even the elite they compare themselves to.
After the Fall of the Death Stars, however, the First Legion fell into relative obscurity. Without direct guidance, many fell off into various occupations outside of the regimented lifestyle of the military - often bounty hunters or mercenaries, but a few were kept together and brought into the secret effort of the Final Order, or the Sith Empire as it would later be known. Under Palpatine, again, the troop was brutally effective in enacting their secret will abroad until nothing else would matter.
It was only after the fall of Darth Sidious that the First Legion would fall into greater obscurity. Following various Warlords during the dark ages, it was only after years of jumping between warlord empires that they found a new stable regime to support in the One Sith. Through the One Sith, they expanded the reputation, rebuilding their number, and becoming a legendary elite group that only their historic progenitors could appreciate.
Eventually, they would find themselves under the will of the Zambrano's in the presiding Sith Empire; effectively expanding the Emperor's influence across the galaxy on several battlefields. Only after the schism of the New Imperial Order, and the 501st abandoning the Empire in favor of the Imperials, the First Legion was left nigh rogue following the various warlord factions rising.
With this in mind, General Orlov Dimir chose to save his Legion the shame of defeat and join the schism forming in the Lords of the Sith. With Qual'Al-Selim actively promoting their departure from the Sith Empire, the First Legion would once again rise as the single fist of the Emperor - powerful and strong, with an endless reach. Their reputation would grow at the battle of Felucia and Korriban until they had squashed all contenders and opponents to the new Worm Emperor's Throne.

Before you get too far into this submission I wanted to let you know up front that you'll need to choose an image other than the listed "3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf" as a symbol. I'm not sure if you were just using it as a placeholder, but, I've replaced it with something plain so that you can edit a new one in easily. The reason is as follows:

"Imagery depicting real-world controversial events, or people, such as "Nazi" or "Fascist" groups should not be utilized. If you are uncertain whether or not an image is appropriate please feel free to reach out to Codex Staff and ask." (
From the General Codex Guidelines)

It's a hard line in the Codex against this. I know it wasn't "people" or a "political figure" but it's still a symbol that was used for an SS-Waffen division.

Please, don't use this imagery in the future.
