VESSEL SPECIFICATIONS
STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Tractor Beam Arrays - The Aeternus is equipped with FOUR magnite crystal tractor beam arrays, which is a reduction from the eight of the previous model. These produce a tractor beam ten times more effective than those equipped on a battlecruiser. They are arranged in a diamond shape mounted in the bow of the ship.
  • Kyber-Imbued Batteries - The Aeternus has more than a few Kyber-focused turbolasers. These specific batteries have increased damage and accuracy.
  • Limited Anti-Interdiction - The Aeternus comes equipped with a Null-Series, allowing it to escape battlecruiser-level interdiction and below. Anything larger than a battlecruiser will require multiple of these ships.
  • Almost Completely Automated - This vessel is equipped with an advanced AI that manages most routine functions while also assisting with navigation, weapons preparation, shield coordination, and more. Its capabilities greatly reduce the need for manual oversight. As a result, the ship can be operated efficiently with a significantly smaller crew. The only places where there is a large amount of organic (or robotic) crew are on the bridge and in the engineering sections (reactor/engines and hangar module).
  • Multiple Systems - Two components of the Aeternus's construction have more than one system or subsystem; these are the hyperdrive and the bridges.
    • It has one bridge mounted on the top of the craft acting as the primary bridge, the secondary bridge is located nearer to the bottom of the aft section, and the tertiary bridge (which is the THEMIS AAII Chamber) is within the hull of the ship.
    • The hyperdrive systems have two that came mounted in the Tiber I class, with an additional "only use if the other two are broken" redundant hyperdrive added on. This tertiary system is normally not powered, but if needed will take a minimum of ten minutes to transfer power, in the best of circumstances.
  • Up-Tiered - Since its repair and subsequent refit after the battle of Maldra IV, the Basilisk has been remade into the Aeternus. The refit has altered some things heavily: the keel (length) has been extended by an additional 500 meters, its weaponry has been upgraded, and its armor and shields have been updated and upgraded.
WEAKNESSES
  • Hunter Becomes the Hunted - When the tractor beam arrays are activated and have caught something, the ship locks into place, meaning maneuverability and speed are reduced to nothing. This leaves the ship unable to 'dodge' incoming attacks.
  • Cataclysmic Results - If the tractor beam arrays were to be destroyed from the inside rather than just being disabled by outside fire, they would cause a large enough explosion to disable most of, if not all, of the armaments mounted on the bow of the ship.
  • EMP/Ion - While this ship has metallic alloys and compounds with extreme EMP/Ion resistance, it is only that, a resistance. Many systems on this ship are technological boons to the crew and AI, but with enough EMP/Ion damage, it could begin to take them out and hinder the overall function of the vessel.
  • Almost Completely Automated - While the ship's high degree of automation is generally a tremendous advantage, it comes with significant and potentially critical drawbacks. Chief among them is the vulnerability of relying so heavily on the AI. If its systems are damaged, either by an internal failure, a direct EMP strike to its core, or a forced reboot, the crew would suddenly be responsible for managing a large number of functions normally handled automatically. In such a scenario, the "optimal" crew complement might prove insufficient, leaving personnel overextended or, in the worst case, rendering the ship functionally inoperable.

DESCRIPTION
The Aeternus originally had another moniker, the Basilisk. If this name seems familiar, it was the namesake of the class of battleships developed for the Empire of the Lost, specifically to combat the Tingel Arm Coalition's Shark class of battlecruisers. The more astute of you would also recognize this was the flagship of, at the time, Moff Karl Von Strauss during the battle of Garn and Maldra IV. This battle was significant in the history of the Empire of the Lost, as it was their last victory before their untimely economic collapse later that year; it was also the battle in which the Tingel Arm Coalition employed an unknown artifact of extreme power to cause what historians compare to "an indiscriminate large-area ionic pulse."

This artifact caused the fleets of the EOTL and TAC to falter, causing mass confusion, death, and loss; during which the bridge and much of the advanced equipment within the Basilisk short-circuited and exploded. These small explosions cause much damage to the internals of the Basilisk and her crew, in particular, Moff Karl Von Strauss. He lost his leg on the primary bridge of the Basilisk and had to be carried through much of the ship in an attempt to find a working medical bay; unfortunately, none were operational, so Karl had to take matters into his own hands, cauterizing his own flesh using a piece of extremely hot Ersteel 12231.

The vessel had been declared damaged beyond the point of feasible repair, its days of service seemingly at an end. Officially, it was slated for decommissioning and disassembly, destined to be broken down into parts and recycled into the fleets of tomorrow. Yet history intervened. With the sudden economic collapse of the Empire of the Lost, countless warships earmarked for deconstruction were instead towed into orbital graveyards.

There the ship lingered, forgotten among the wreckage of an empire, until fate placed its dossier before the newly risen Exarch Karl Von Strauss. While reviewing the long-neglected records, he found the notice of decommissioning and disassembly for the once-proud Basilisk, and something in its story stayed his hand. Rather than consigning it to oblivion, Karl chose to personally acquire the vessel. What others saw as a derelict relic, he recognized as a foundation worth preserving. Under his direct authority, the Basilisk was pulled from the graveyard and entrusted to teams of engineers from N&Z Starworks, with orders for an extensive repair and refit program. A resurrection as much as a restoration.

In the end, the vessel was not merely restored but reborn. Karl renamed her Aeternus, a name chosen not only to signify endurance but to mirror his own survival. During the battle that had shattered the Basilisk, he had lost his leg, yet he endured, rebuilt, hardened, and unbroken. So too was the ship reforged: her frame strengthened with modern alloys, her engines rebuilt to rival contemporary flagships, and her systems reborn with cutting-edge technology. The Aeternus became a living reflection of its master, scarred, remade, and stronger for the trial of fire, a testament to the will that refuses to be extinguished; a living testament to Imperial resilience.
