SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Zero G in G - Allowing the host craft to execute some maneuvers in atmosphere which otherwise might only be possible in space, the FAE/C-01 opens up an array of new options in atmospheric engagements, affording pilots and operators a significant advantage.
  • Fast Prey - The FAE/C-01 allows a craft to quite convincingly resist arresting interdiction fields and tractor beams, allowing the host craft to maintain its speed for dogfighting, evasive maneuvers, and avoiding point-defense fire.
WEAKNESSES
  • Traditional Interdiction - The tensor field generated by the FAE/C-01 is capable of resisting only specific types of interdiction fields, namely those which function to slow down surrounding craft. Unfortunately, the tensor fields do not resist more conventional interdiction fields which are capable of disabling FTL maneuvers. Any craft with the FAE/C-01 will be trapped in system and unable to jump to hyperspace like any other vessel in the event that hyperspace-disabling interdiction fields are activated.
  • Heat Index - Exhaustive and/or intensive usage of the FAE/C-01 over very long periods, will likely overheat the unit, forcing it to enter a heat discharge protocol, during which it can not be used for some time. In order to avoid this, the unit is typically programmed to activate only upon detection of arresting interdiction fields or under other circumstances.
  • To the Limit - The FAE/C-01 does nothing to make a craft move faster than its base speed, instead only allowing it to regain and/or maintain speed that was lost or could have been lost via arresting interdiction fields and tractor beams.
DESCRIPTION
An individual, one-craft variant of the ancient STAR-AE Engine System, the FAE/C-01 Multiphase Tensor Field Element is a utility engine enhancement designed chiefly to resist wide-area interdiction fields generated by interdiction drives, in addition to tractor beams. Known for its fleet of fast fighter and vehicle designs, with the relative proliferation of interdiction technologies intended to slow down hostile craft, First United Astral Engineering sought to devise a system in order to lend their craft the capability of resisting such effects.

In the conceptual stages, multiple approaches were considered for the design. Multiphase null field units, which countered the relatively primitive interdictors of the day were initially considered. However, tensor fields were ultimately settled on, as older systems such as the STAR-AE were shown to be capable of affecting multiple craft with sustainable power draw, an individual, one-craft variant of the technology was considered to be quite viable. As such, the FAE/C-01 was quickly conceptualized, undergoing trial phases before being approved for full production.

While projected to sell reasonably well, First United Astral Engineering nevertheless remains cautiously optimistic for the FAE/C-01’s success and effectiveness in the field…
