As the shuttle landed in the Starport, we stepped off and looked around. Of course we got a few looks our way which was not surprising, after all it’s not every day that an Admiral and a Captain from the Silver Jedi Defense Force Navy step off a shuttle in the middle of Galactic Alliance Defense Force grounds. It also didn’t ease matters that we were both in SJDF duds, whether in BDUs or duty uniform and while I knew where to go(having been formerly of the Galactic Alliance), we were both still being intercepted. . Walking down the flightline, I made a point of showing Aien Mueller the slight differences between what we were used to and what was going on here at the center of the proverbial universe.

Down this way.

People are just staring at us. He said, in a bit of a surprising tone.

Intimidated?

No, they just look a little surprised. The smirk on him just made me laugh realizing that I should have known he would have something up his sleeve.

I really didn’t know what to expect as we made our way into one of the administration offices. I mean would they welcome us? Did we have to enlist all over again? Did we have to sign in? What was the protocol now? I was getting anxious though I would not show it. I could survive just fine as could Aien and his team, but I wanted to see what was going on here and make sure that we were doing the right thing.

It’s times like this that I wish I were a Jedi, it’s so blasted easy for them nowadays, just walk into a Temple, pledge loyalty and bam, they’re good.

So, do we just walk in and say, “Hello”? Alien asked me in a manner as to his normal gruff approach, but he wasn’t wrong. I had just been standing here for a minute.

That we do.

So here we go. Good thing I had made an appointment.

There was no reason this couldn't have been a holo-meeting.

Or even just a short, sweet, simple hyper-message. They didn't have to drag him to Courscant to give him a rundown on information he already knew. He was technically retired, but still active-duty reserve therefore privy to intelligence reports by virtue. That particular piece of information was always a party favorite. For some reason rich snobs seemed to love the idea of being in the company of a war hero - even if that particular "hero" was knocked out of commission long before victory had been achieved. But then again, he did enjoy telling the story of how he was presumed dead in the aftermath of the Battle of Fondor and found days later floating amongst the debris of a broken Final Dawn star destroyer. He shrugged off the thought and turned his attention back to High Admiral Gascon.

The Zilkin fleet commander, a ferocious fleet commander who's grit was legendary, was elaborating on recent internal political tensions with the government of Skako. That explained somewhat why he was summoned to Courscant. He was Superintendent of the Anaxes War College and even though armed conflict with Skako was unlikely, if it were to occur Anaxes would be caught in the crossfire. "This situation is fluid but the possibility for armed conflict is too great. There have been a number of concerning reports"

The meter tall flag officer paced the top of the conference table with both of his hands behind his back. "We can't afford to sit idly and let whatever happen, happen. No, we need to be ready. We weren't ready last time"

"You don't need to remind me" Myneto finally chimed in, fully remembering the last time a situation of this magnitude had boiled into conflict. The Corellian-Duros blockade of Byss was...unforeseen to say the least. No one harbored any love for Marlon Sularen but the actions taken on behalf of his native Corellia exposed deep rooted and structural problems within the GADF.

Gascon nodded approvingly. "The Anaxes Defense Fleet" He paused, as if forgetting something. "Effective immediately, you are to take command of the Anaxes Sector Defense Fleet" Not expected but not a surprise, Zahara simply nodded.

"Full autonomy?" Officers made a fleet a fighting force, not ships and if Myneto was to come back into active service he'd do so with those who fought by his side all those years ago. Assuming they were still around. Gascon simply nodded and with that their meeting was complete. The Zilkin was notoriously unsocial.

"One more thing" Gascon called out as Zahara was exiting. "There's an Admiral here. From the Silver Jedi. Someone by the name of GAL Ltd. GAL Ltd. . Might want to meet him"

Oh great, here we go again. Another day, another waiting room. And who do I get to spend my precious time with? A bunch of wide-eyed cadets who probably think they're so cool for being here early. Ugh.

But wait, it gets better. Apparently, Aien and I can't just make our appointment to meet with the top brass. No, we have to sit here and chat with these cadets about their hopes and dreams for the future. Because that's definitely a good use of our time.

I mean, sure, it's important to inspire the next generation and all that jazz. But seriously, shouldn't we be in a meeting with someone who actually has some power around here? I don't want to be rude or anything, but I have better things to do than listen to some kid ramble on about their summer camp experience.

What's the point of having rank if we're still stuck doing pointless stuff like this? It's not like we're getting some kind of extra credit for being here. We're just wasting our time. This is a test of our resolve, I get it, but it’s still ridiculous. Poor Aien looks like he is about to punch someone.

But hey, at least we're on the path I was hoping to bring us to at this point. That’s something, I guess.

“Admiral? They will see you know.”

Thank you.

Aien can’t get out fast enough. I hope this is the last time we have to do this, but at least there is the option of continuing the status quo.

The halls haven’t changed, still as bland as ever. This “perp parade” isn’t something that I am really enjoying, it tells me that there is really nothing more than the attempt to stall as they find intel on why we’re here.

They’ll never know until I tell them.

Admiral Myneto. Your reputation precedes you, sir. I could respect this guy, his tactics were required reading in Command classes. He earned our salutes.

"Apologies, Admiral Angellus for the wait" He greeted the man offering a firm handshake. "I'm sure you know how meetings with top brass can go over their intended time" He offered with a slight chuckle. In total, the meeting with High Admiral Gascon was roughly two hours, most of which he couldn't get back. After the discussion with the commander of the ANV Alliance Ascendant had ended, he'd been given a temporary office to both greet the Silver Jedi Admiral and plan for his upcoming mission to Skako. So far so good.

It seemed before entering, the Silver Jedi Admiral was chatting with a group of cadets. Interesting. It reminded him somewhat of the many reforms he had instituted at the Pols Anaxes War College, ostentatiously in order to ensure the next generation of Alliance officers wouldn't be caught with their pants down or be otherwise ill prepared for the future. With the Second Great Hyperspace War finally over, many of those young cadets would soon be called upon to serve as the backbone of military of the most powerful military in the galaxy - provided they could weather the challenges posed by the reemerging Sith Order.

Angellus' mention of his reputation took the Corellian aback. Surely someone like Cassius Callaesar Cassius Callaesar or Dracken Pryce Dracken Pryce would be far more prestigious than he? He brushed aside the thought. Perhaps he was referring to his adventures against the Frozen Hand a long, long time ago.

"Please, sit" He said, gesturing both the Admiral and his guest - who seemed to be a fighter pilot of some kind - to a set of chairs across from a quaint and mostly barren desk in the corner of the office. The Admiral shut off the hologram detailing the structure of the Anaxes Defense Fleet before continuing.

"My name is Admiral Zahara Myneto" He said with a smile. "Welcome to the Galactic Alliance Defense Force"

No surprise, the typical “meetings” response, but yeah, I get it, and by his look so does Aien. It doesn’t really matter at this point as they had work to do and this meeting was going to get off on the right foot from both sides. So, while it was annoying to sit and play “20 questions” with a bunch of cadets, it was also a good test in humility. That was something everyone needed every now and again.

The visceral response that Myneto gave was an interesting one. He obviously didn’t know I was in the the GADF, I was even a Wing Commander at one point. Oh well, old history and if there was a big issue about it, neither Aien or I would be here anyway, right?

No worries about the wait, sir. It happens to all of us at some point or another, right? It was a good thing anyway.

I meant it.

Whoah, wait he’s welcoming me already? Is this a generic thing or something else? Might as well probe it.

Thank you, sir. It brings back some memories. Congratulations on the defeat of the Maw, and your personal position on Anaxes.

The Admiral eyed the Silver Jedi veteran cautiously. While he wasn't entirely aware of the man's service history, he did know that he had notched a number of impressive victories, and was a decorated officer in every sense of the word. Which was perfect, especially considering the resurgence of the Sith and the presence of a massive military industrial complex inside their territory. If they could build a dreadnought that was near the size of the Death Star, what else could they build in a similar time frame? He shuddered at the thought.

"Well, I will say one of the perks of being retired-" He paused. He was no longer retired, no he was a fully commissioned officer now. Another adjustment to be made. "When you are retired, you deal with the bureaucracy from the outside instead of the inside" He finished.

He fumbled underneath the desk for a moment before finding a bottle of Corellian Ale. Whoever held the office before him had an excellent taste in alcohol. He scanned the room briefly for glasses and upon finding them placed three glasses on the desk and returned to his seat. "You boys drink?" He offered.

Before responding to the offer for a drink, Angellus mentioned Zahara's service on Anaxes. A prestigious assignment, being Superintendent of the Anaxes War College was a great honor but it was intended for those who were on their way out. Therefore, when he switched to the active reserve in order to spend more time with his grandchildren, he had been offered the position in recognition of his long service. He accepted and the rest was history. "Thank you, Admiral" He offered with a toothy grin. Total victory over the Maw was indeed something to be proud of. "Tell me about yourself" He said changing the conversation.

"What brings you boys to the Core, to our great federation" He said raising his arms and gesturing to the room for emphasis. "Afterall, the GADF is a family and you two are the newest adoptees"

Wait, what?

Either we’re being predictable or there was more to my appointment than I thought? As I settled into the chair with the Admiral before me, I felt a sense of pride and responsibility wash over my psyche. It was time for me to tell my personal history, to give them a glimpse into my family bloodline of military service that dated back to well before the first hyperspace war. My father, grandfather, and great-grandfather had all been true warriors, fighting for the Silver Jedi, The Galactic Alliance, The Galactic Republic, The New Republic and so on countless fronts, sacrificing everything for duty and honor.

But it was a different era now. The rising tide of peace in Silver territory had suddenly returned many of the Admiralty to it, and with it came a need for a new kind of service. So many had decided to retire, to enjoy the fruits of their long years of sacrifice and service. But for me, it was not yet time to let go.

No, I still had a great deal to give, a depth of knowledge and experience that could only come from time on the frontlines. I spoke with conviction about my love for service, about how it was a calling that could not be ignored. And so I continued on, sharing stories from my many campaigns, drawing on the experiences of those who had come before me. As I looked out at the young faces before me, I was filled with hope and pride, knowing that with the right inspiration, anything was possible.

I'm just a Special Forces guy. I go where I'm needed.
